So the 2.2 OTA update was supposed to - Droid Incredible General

have been in the first half of August right. But now that a lot of us here are complaining about all the problems we have found (radio, battery, charging, 720p, reboots), maybe i'm just crazy, but does anyone else feel like maybe, just maybe, Verizon is listening to us and trying to fully fix all the problems that we are mentioning with this phone before they release the actual OTA update?

I just think the leaked versions were just leaked versions never intended for distribution or fully tested.
Just look at MOST of the problem post and they are all related to unreleased stuff.
VZW will release when they are ready, just nobody has any patience.
Kind of a joke really.

So I talked to T-Mo Rep

Today, I kept getting random messages from random numbers, so I called in to block, the rep also had a vibrant. So she was like "So... how do you like the vibrant?"
I'm all like "It's sexy"
But it took her so long to solve my problems, so I asked about random stuff like "Do you know when Froyo is coming out?"
She was a pretty "SMART TECH" you don't see those much on help lines now do you?
She replies: Let me check on that for you
and then she came back on and said "it won't be anytime soon, because if it is anytime soon, the tech supports usually knows weeks or months beforehand, but right now, it says 'to be determined'"
SO, do you guys it'll take as long as the rep said?
Unfortunately, this still fell into the same "He Said She Said" category, until we get an official statement, it's all moot. She may be smart but she is still a rep and I doubt she will have access to OTA information. She most likely turned around and asked her best friend/co-worker who is a tech, and he replied that he didn't know anything, and she passes that onto you.
I think she's right. We already know that froyo would come by the end of the year according to the galaxy s twitter. I expect it to come around December 29. Am I so pessimistic?

No, I believe you are pretty optimistic. End of December...well..
same here. I read the same thing in a tech online magazine.. they actually said 2011 but no precise date..
Im running the unofficial TMO froyo posted in this forum though and I like it
Cheers
Personally, I think Samsung should just give up and hand over the kernel source, maybe keep some respect.
The Unoffical Official T-MO Froyo ROM is in the Development section. If that is actually the real thing (and I completely believe it is) I don't see what the delay is for them to just release it.
Even when it does come out, I know for myself that I will keep a custom ROM. Why have stock when you can rock!
I think the point for all of us that are running one of the leaked 2.2 roms is that an official release will have more of the bugs ironed out and it will help with some of the compatibility issues. I for one have tried all flavors and each has a quirk or two. The good thing is that when 2.2 finally drops officially the devs will have almost perfected their roms and it will be easier to implement any changes made by Tmobile.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I agree with the previous post. I think Samsung leaked the ROM so that the devs here could get their hands on it and make fixes that they then can implement into the official ROM.
So it wouldn't be so embarrasing on Samsung's part? x) Something big like a software update isn't too "easily" leaked. So I do sort of have to agree too.

Stuck on DI18

Hey all. I am curious, are you guys all getting Froyo by doing a manual update??? I am trying the UPDATE FIRMWARE option (currently on DI18) and getting a message that I am on the latest version.
If you search the forums a bit you will find your answer.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Milkman, I'm in the same boat - been searching forums, seems like folks who want OTA will have to wait.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
dude above is hinting for the manual update of the OTA released update. I am on 18 also waiting for OTA. If I didn't have hw id go for it. I just dont have time if i brick my phone in the process.
Thanks Big. I wish the other reply was more helpful, like maybe a link or something. I love how people tell you to search when you already did...
I may just do the update using clockwork, but was hoping to do OTA.
I will holdout a little longer to see if it magically appears on OTA.
The comment was referring to the fact that this has been extensively covered already in the forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861213 has the instructions on how to apply the OTA update to a stock Epic.
The official OTA hasn't been released by Sprint/Samsung yet, DK28 is just the most likely final release.
The instructions above will show you how to update, I updated my wife's stock Epic last night with no issues.
thank you elite, as a new android user this isn't really apparent, even from the bulk of that thread - that this isn't an official OTA sprint release.
There are folks that are reporting they got froyo from an OTA update, which counters your information. I wonder how true or untrue that is.
If sprint hasnt released the official froyo then why are users getting it OTA. I call bs on your statement.
yep, I second that call mbkowns.
The OTA was being pushed to specific test phones, with the Hardware version D700.0.4
No one has determined how those got in the wild, almost everyone has version .5
The update was only pushed to the .4 phones, again this is all in the dev section.
if that is the case, then how do folks know that its the 'official' froyo release? I can see that the dl link is from an authoritative source, but its not telling.
i.e. if its not available to all subscribers then its not a release, right?
It is not the official release, just a possible release candidate that was sent to the .4 phones only.
Basically, a guy last night noticed that Di18 updated to DK28 and posted it here. after several hundred posts, we all realized that it was only for .4 phones. Those are supposedly developmental phones that got released with the mainstream .5 phones. How? We do not know.
But since it was an OTA for those phones, a ton of folks have assumed that it was the final official release.
Either way, I ODINed my old DG27, got gps fix in Maps, then ODINed the latest. It's not a bad process, just touchy, and since then I've enjoyed the best Froyo ROM yet.
I hope this helps.

It is not the official release from sprint to the general public, it is a release candidate that they will let devs test for a few days. If devs report no issues they will start the official OTA release.
Sent from my Epic using XDA App.
thats great info, I fear however that due to the reportings of xda and engadget, etc.. that most folks will or have interpreted this event as an official sprint release of froyo. I am in no particular hurry for froyo on my epic but as this news has panned out it has caught my and others attention in an apparent dubious way - surely due the reportings and not in any way of the xda members.
if this is true, this is an important point that folks should be aware of *before* doing their own joyous upgrade - meaning that if sprint didn't bless this code they shouldn't expect it to be the final real thing.

A few random thoughts. Would appreciate your feedback.

I think it is insulting how Samsung released the Froyo update. This was not a mass update... this was a "lets shut the people complaining up update!"
Updating through Kies ALWAYS = people posting about problems/issues.
Why is it they could not do an OTA? I personally assume it's because it was not ready (hence the KA7 leak) and THAT will be an OTA for the masses to froyo (or an update to those who used Kies). This is my assumption.
But shame on Samsung/T-Mobile for this...
I would STRONGLY urge new people to NOT update to froyo via kies. I WOULD encourage rooting your phone and flashing the new custom roms that are based off the newest builds (even newer than KA6 which was the "official update").
(2)
I think a thread dedicated for the new ROMs in the Q&A section would be awesome. Consider it an "ask a dumb question and expect a quick answer" thread. The less crap/clutter from the development section the better.
I imagine hardly any posts in the development section are of benefit to the developer.
I feel the Nero V4 sticky is a good example. Though I feel a sticky is a bit much.
(3)
Anyone want to create a thread (or show me one) with all of the stock system apps attached? It would ne nice for those times when someone is asking for them....
(4)
Does anyone have the skills to make the dropdown "mute" button also mute Media. I hate that currently it will mute everything but media... as it inevitably always leads to me making noise when I think I am muted.
I now use Widgetsoid to mute my phone completely.
Thanks!
I don't care how they released froyo, as long as they also release source code soon since it was an "official" release.

They have 60 days. Should not take that long. I just question why it was not an ota. Consider me skeptical of Samsung.
Want source? Request it: @SamsungMobileUS should work.
I agree that this was to shut people up, however, as a person who hasn't flashed a rom yet, I commend them for it. I really didn't know what I was missing, and if KA6 is laggy, I can't wait to see what isn't laggy. I'd like to root my phone next, but I have no idea if I'm hardware locked, so I'm inspired to do more reading.
Mini Kies is not difficult to use. People just don't read.
ETA: I agree that there will eventually be an OTA for fixes to KA6 and for people who did not even know about this.

Check and make sure that your phone is hardware locked now as I know that one of the ROMs took care of this issue.

Isn't it that updating through kies is faster than ota? People wouldn't have to wait, unless you're a mac user. The JI6 took forever for them to send it. I waited like 2 weeks then i just flashed it through odin because i was really tired of waiting.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Personally, I do believe that KA6 was suddenly delivered via Kies to shut us all up.
However, I don't really mind how updates are released. They don't have to be OTA. As long as Samsung releases timely updates, even if it is via Kies, then I will be a happy customer. (Oh and they still need to fix the hardware gps flaw)
If they release Gingerbread via kies in a timely manner, I will even somewhat forgive them, but I still will not buy another Samsung made product again for a very long time if ever.
im glad atleast samsung decided to give us froyo... i mean now we can get a little bit of work on our roms since we have a official now.
but i think that "official" rom was made in 2 days, because if you notice, its laggy as hell, and the only difference is theres wifi calling and a few other apps, thats IT.

I have the same opinion. I believe this was just a "shut them up" maneuver and the easier softer way for them to do it. Also from what I have read in the threads there seems to be a number of people with problems from the Keis fiasco.

S15274N Great Posting
I agree on your general Ideas. I really like the Idea of posting a fast Q & A
I like the Idea of Making a thread that lists all the stock apps (with apk attached etc.) for those who want that sort of thing.
And, I agree Samsung is just trying to avoid a Gun Fight with the customers. We customers Really are making it hard for Tmo and Samsung to continue their personal "*****-match"
We need to continue to Keep the Pressure on Samsung to keep them adhering to the open source licensing agreement thet agree to when installing Android.
Yeah, I was not trying to say I am upset they released froyo... but more picking on them for HOW they released it. They know 99% of Vibrant users are not even going to know it was released, and if they did, they wont bother with Kies.
Them releasing source will be huge. I hope they release it as fast as they did for the canadian fascinate once froyo was released for it. I'm still a skeptic of Samsung and expect a future release to be the next "official froyo"

they'll probably release it on like the 60th day waiting till its like 11:59PM then they upload. lol.
Based off your #1 statment I can only say that this is exactly why they released the "official update". The thing is after the first rumor was released and the **** hit the fan causing multiple threads and 1,000's of post, among other things, there was a small thread and article that was covered and only happen to receive less then 50 post that stated:
The same credible source that gave the first rumor added the reason why samsung and/or tmobile haven't given the update Is because samsung is charging the carriers for OS updates. This means samsung was expecting each carrier to pay per handset sold(later to be denied by samsung).
You can have your own take on samsung or tmo, but the remainder stays the same. That is if the sites which released the rumors spoke to the same source and one rumor is true, then possibly the second Could be also. This also shows 2 other things that will forever fault the android community and the Internet alike. The mob mentality and the feeling of some type of entitlement will cloud the truth or fuel rumors and/or other things that none of use are entitled to know or understand.
One good thing that has come out of this is the fact that now samsung is responsible to release the 2.2 source.via the GPL. Going forward id say Let's try and not let this happen with the real ota, if that ever really happens... lol.
Moral of the story:
Becareful what you wish for. You might just get it... kinda.

Knowing Acer, August 2013.
Yup, Xoom WIFI was getting the 3.2 update a few hours ago. The most interesting feature is probably the zoom feature: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...new-zoom-mode-for-viewing-non-honeycomb-apps/
Non-Honeycomb apps support? Even with pixelation, Hell yes!

Sounds nice. Unfortunately the biggest problem isn't the resolution. The biggest problem is attempting to get them to run without FC 80000 times.
Anyone know if 3.2 supports the HSP for bluetooth? I want to be able to use my headset with this bloody thing.
from the original article. link
3.2 will offer some bug fixes and improved hardware acceleration, as well as updates to Movie Studio, Movies, Music and widgets.
I wait two more weeks and if they would not release their f***** 3.1, the tab will be sold for a better product with better support.

What you've been reading has not been confirmed by any official Acer source, it's just what people have posted saying they were told by some guy on the phone at Acer. That's rumour, not fact.
In fact, over the last couple of days, several people HAVE been reporting getting the 3.1 update. Try taking a look in the dev section.
I think people often forget.ideally when devices computers get a update its all about fixing or providing enhancements. But often we forget that updates that come to soon.updates that are not carefully debuged and checked will almost always break something else. I would rather have fewer but larger rolled up updates then the tiny uncontrolled untested to be true. Remember your windows machine. Updates are a mess and daily. And always risky even more so on firmware.
patience wins over in the long run.
With that said.

It's not the update that I am concerned about ( XDA always comes through )
It's Acer's damn un-organized way of having so many build #s !!!
One thing that having so many build numbers tells me:
They have no clue as to really ironed out the bugs, that's why their are so many different builds !
with Acer.... even among their same region ( Com_Gen1.... or EMEA for example )... even with those.... there are so many build numbers for the same region !
Look at Asus... they basically have only 2 builds..... 1 for US & 1 for WW ( worldwide )
try weeding through all those build numbers with tech supports and you can see why nobody can get a concrete answer.... due to the lack of being on the same page...etc
If any one who actually have contacts with Acer on the inside.... for Godsake.... relay this problem to their head of department, please !!
how difficult is that ??
Which I imagine is why a second update is being rolled out at the moment?
I suspect that the previous update did have issues and Acer has realised this and is attempting to resolve things. Pure conjecture on my part, but it seems odd to push two updates within a one week period.

Update Signs?

First off let me say I Do Not intend for this to be another whine thread....
Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has had any signs of an update. I recall from one of the previous now closed threads started one user mentioned the 5th as being a possible date. Though seemingly arbitrary date the 5th is here.
People chime in if you get the notification!
Nothing for me yet.
It probably won't come out until the new Google phones do. I know it's difficult for flashaholics, but be patient.
Now I'm waiting for the September security update for Marshmallow, maybe it will be late too. They seem to be in a huge work.
This thread is the best sign.

This is the only sign from Google I have seen.
Absolutely notting here. Not even the sept security update.
There will be a September in 2017,too
If I'm remembering the same post, a user speculated that the update would be tied to the September monthly security update. That seemed like pure speculation. I hope the updates are posted soon but I don't think today will be the day, since it is already the afternoon and a business holiday. Hope I'm wrong!

No speculations.....probably updates.
From what I've heard Qualcomm needs to do some driver upgrades for full Android N Support. If that is the case, it would explain why Google hasn't released the update yet, they simply can't until Qualcomm delivers. I can imagine Qualcomm has their hands full at the moment with all the smartphone companies out their requesting driver updates to support Android N as well.
I don't have any references for this, as I read it in a post somewhere but don't remember where. Don't take my word for it. But of course it would be interesting if someone could confirm or deny this.
I don't expect the update any time soon, but at least the latest beta runs very smoothly on my device. Can't complain at the moment.
Thats what has confused me DP5 runs well so id have thought it was near release quality but I guess not with the update taking so long. As far as qualcomm surely google should be the highest priority for drivers/updates given that they build the entire base that all other android phones base off? So an N driver for a specific SoC should work for all devices using that SoC?
I'm pretty satisfied with the Uber N ROM as is.
What @onemandivision said is correct, driver updates are critical. It's not just the kernel and the android base.
I'm a little confused by the delay though since it is already clear that phones on chips older than snapdragon 800/801 won't get nougat (ie 65-70% of all android phones according to some surveys), so there should be very few drivers to update/fine tune? Am I wrong?
