trying to flash a rom - Vibrant General

hi i just rooted my vibrant with galaxy rooter app. and now i am trying to flash 2.1 i copied the folder to both sd and internal and when i reboot in recovery i dont see the update.zip please help

it says no such file. : (. i renamed it update.zip still does not work help......

first things first, I HIGHLY recommend downloading ROM Manager from the market, then from rom manager app, flash "Clockwork Recovery". Once you have that.....
When you plug in your phone into your computer, two new drives will appear in "My Computer" on your computer, one is i think 12 gb and it will have a bunch of folders/files, this is where you need to put the *.zip DON'T rename it update.zip, I suggest you name it something like vibrant2.1custom.zip or something so you know what it is.
Once you have your zip on the root of your sd, boot into recovery. Clockwork recovery should start, if not click on "reinstall packages". this will start the clockwork recovery. you will now be at a kind of teal colored recovery. From here i STRONGLY recommend you go to nandroid and do a backup. once the back up is done. go to the main screen and you will see "install zip from sdcard" click on that then select "choose zip from sdcard" it will list all the files and folders on your sd card go down to your .zip (vibrant2.1custom.zip) click on that then click on yes
You should be good to go.
Good Luck

ClockworkMod Recovery

This update.zip will flash clockwork recovery, overwriting the need/ability to use the stock recovery folder with command in it.
For advanced users only.
v.8 Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?dvleg4oatkfxm7w
The credit for this all goes to Bekit for the biggest step forward on the Gtablet, and obviously Koush for the custom recovery to begin with. Roebeet packaged this update.zip.
Instructions:
1) Unpack download to root of sdcard. (Internals /sdcard, NOT /sdcard2)
2) Start tablet while holding volume + and power. (Let go when you see text come up saying entering recovery)
3) You will see a short installation and it will reboot.
4) Check the install by powering off, the powering on with volume+ and power
5) You should be greeted by a menu with Clockworkmod at the top
i have been using clockwork on my gtablet for several days now. it backs up and restores just like i would expect it too.
well done as usual.. props for all involved.
Works great no problems at all !!!
wishlist:
1. add SDCARD2 to the mount and storage section.
2. ... wait that is it.!
Should I be able to take this file and rename to update.zip, put it in the root of "sdcard" internal space, put the recovery folder in root directory too and then boot up with power + volume up to install this?

Or just extract the zip file supplied in the first post onto the sd card. Everything will go into its place. Then boot from recovery using power and volume+.
So, if I place the cwm update.zip and recovery folder in the root of sdcard (internal), then when I boot into recovery, CWM will show up instead? Just want to know if it really is that simple. Also, if I want to flash a new ROM (Like the zpad one), do I simply place the update.zip from that rom anywhere other than the root of "sdcard", and flash using CWM?
One last question, if I delete the CWM update.zip, is it like CWM was never placed on my g tab?
Am I the only one having trouble getting cwrecovery on the root of sd card? cant get this to run. i am a visual learner and reading how to do all this is helping me very little. if anyone would be willing to do a video or reference me to a link so i can learn to do all this, i would appreciate greatly. this is very frustrating tab stock!
hey this might help you get it installed..
plug your gtablet into your computer, then on the gtablet, click the "enable usb storage connection" button
then on your pc, open windows explorer, and open removeable drive F, the letter may be different for you.. it should show 13gb free on it, and there should be an android folder and a dcim folder.. that's the root of the storage inside the tablet.. it's the same as sdcard.. unzip the clockworkblahblah.zip to the root/top level directory of that removeable drive. then turn the tablet off. and then hold down the volume + button while powering it back on, it should install the clockworkmod recovery manager.. that's about it
jw52637 don't feel bad... I'm a visual learner as well.
uncola,
I followed your instructions and I saw the update install on boot up. Now I'm lost. I expected to see and application named ClockworkMod Recovery or something like that... but I did not. How do I know it is installed and how do I use it to back up my stock ROM? Also, do I remove the "update.zip" from the root directory or just leave it there?
Sorry for the questions but I want to learn how to do this so I can stop bothering you guys.

ClockWorkMod Recovery is the recovery system...so you have to boot your tab into recovery (hold volume + and power the tab up). If installed, you'll get the ClockWorkMod Recovery instead of the stock recovery system. You can make backups, do restores, install .zips, etc... from there.....then "reboot" the system to boot back to your normal system.
Thanks tcrews. I moved the update.zip from the root directory to a saved directory then rebooted holding the volume + key and it booted into ClockWorkMod Recovery. I chose back up and everything seemed to backup fine.
So if/when I install another ROM and I do a restore to the ROM I just backed up I should be right back to where I was at that time. I have used Titanium Backup to back up all my applications and settings and know I would have to restore them also.
I'm just wanting to understand how I can get back to "stock" so that I can get the automatic updates from Viewsonic.
Well i just tried it all again, and all worked very well. Thank you very much
Ok, I'm totaly new to this so please bare with me, having some troubles with my G tablet NOT booting so I cant access it through Windows to install CW to fix my tablet. How can I get the Files on the tablet? I can get it to attempt recovery but no luck. PLEASE help. I'm pulling my hair out here.

There is a physical reset button inside the device, or you can try ADB.
I cant get the recovery image to find update.zip
I have clockwork recovery gtab-cwm-v08 installed and renamed to update.zip in the root of the internal sd but when i boot into recovery it goes to the android screen then shows a triangle with a exclamation point, then reboots normally!
I rooted with z4root 1.2.1
I have superuser permission so am rooted!
Unrooted then rooted again figuring this might help!
Tried a few different clockwork recoveries
have no idea what the problem is! if anyone has any clue it would be appreciated!

Had that happen to me. What I did was run the CWM again into the gtab. Next reboot I had CWM insgtalled and working.
Hope that helps
CWM 0.8 is the one that I used and is working for me. I have the gTab w/the "original" partition scheme, and installed it by the original gTab update process.
If you're using newer CWMs I've read posts in the CM6b4 thread that newer CWM version seem to be causing problems for some people.
Also if you have a "newer" "batch" gTab w/a different partition map scheme you might want to check what the latest info is on the IRC channel, #tegratab on freenode IIRC. Might be quickest to ask for help there anyways, as it sounds like this probably isn't your problem.

[Q] need help flashing MoDoCa and CM7

I am having a heck of a time tryingto flash a new rom onto my nexus s. I have downloaded MoDoCa and CM7 and put both .zip's on my SD card.
When i go to install via clockwork, its verifies the install and fails saying it cant find any of the packages. I left the files as a zip, i also extracted wthem within the same folder.
Im so lost why this wont work. Also the backup's i made before flashing dont wanna flash either. I can only get barebones 2.3. HELP!
Are you using version 3.0.0.0 or higher of Clockwork? That's one of the requirements on Modaco's ROM.
You should leave the Modaco rom as a zip. Put it in the root of your sdcard.
I think what's happening to you is that you're trying to flash it the wrong way.
In Clockwork, don't select the flash update.zip file, what you need to do is choose the menu option to flash a file from the sdcard. This puts you into a selection mode screen where you will navigate through the files and folders in the sdcard to the one you want to flash, then select it and flash away.
Have you tried it that way?
EDIT: P.S - you don't "flash" nandroid backup files, you restore them from the backup/restore menu option in Clockwork. You probably know that, but just making sure, since there shouldn't be an issue restoring them.

Proper update procedure for Axura

Hi guys,
Well when I flashed my ROM I used the NOOB thread and installed this version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821468
Now I realize I should have updated to this version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=891657
I have the update.zip and the new Axura zip on my root directory but when I reboot in recovery and click "re-install packages" it does something ...maybe re-roots?...and just goes to the normal Axura boot screen and starts up current installed version. I do have ROM manager and Titanium installed.
Obviously I'm missing something silly. Also, is there any real reason to update a month old ROM or am I ok leaving them on there for a long time?
Thank you...you guys rock!
Get into the green recovery screen. If you first load up recovery and it's blue then hit reinstall packages. You may have to do this twice for it to go to the green clockwork recovery.
Next navigate to install .zip from SD. Navigate to the new Axura file and select it. Navigate down to "yes" and wait for it to complete.
One pre-caution:
If you named the Axura ROM as update.zip and try to go into CWR it might throw you back to the normal recovery (blue text), if you hit re-install packages it will try to do it via update.zip (your Axura), and you will end-up with the square one.
Go to your phone, rename the Axura download from update.zip to something different, i.e. axura_rom_latest.zip, copy recovery-update.zip from /sdcard/clockworkmod directory to /sdcard as update.zip, and go back into recovery and re-install packages, it will bring you to CWR with green text.

Nice catch and clarification.
Lordjish - Let us know how it goes.
I'm confused I have the new Axura ROM zip file on my phone but it's not named update.zip - the rooting zip is named that. The Axura ROM is named whatever the developer named it still.
1. Do I Need to change the name of the ROM then?
2, Should I remove the rooting "update.zip" I downloaded from the NOOB thread?
If so, should I just have the new ROM in there by itself?
Also my Root seems to be corrupted as Titanium cannot gain root rights anymore and Superuser Permissions won't run. This is surely my fault from my failed attempt and installing the new update.
I've re-named the clorkworkmod recovery zip to update.zip as you said, as well as renamed the new Axura ROM zip to "axura-update.zip" . I also moved the clockworkmod zip to the root directory on SD.
I haven't tried anything yet as I want to make sure this is what I'm suppose to do with a possibly broken "root" (superuser permissions aren't working for Titanium or ROM manager)
Also, strangely enough my computer wouldn't let me move filesthrough USB Mass storage mode that are already on the phone, but I could do it by using the phone itself to move the files.
Oh, and I deleted the NOOB thread rooting zip before moving the clockworkmod one and re-naming it the same.
Thanks again guys!
Reboot into stock recovery, reinstall packages, cwr should be available then (green txt). Install zip from sd, choose axura zip and you should be fine.
Sent from my Nero powered Vibrant
On the 16g internal memory you should now have two files - Update.zip and Axura.zip right?
If so boot into recovery and hit reinstall packages until you get to the green recovery. This sometimes takes two times.
Then navigate to install zip from SD and find Axura and let it do it's thing.
Thank you all for your help!
Updated new the newest Axura ROM and everything went without any problems.
This is addicting...
Have you heard of Gardner? I graduated high school there. Good to see a nice Kansas man in the forum. I pm you

Help! Might have messed my phone up

LOL i was about to say i have a fascinate, but it would be redundant because I am posting in a Fascinate forum.
Hi guys, first post, thought I would post first about something not help related, but my phone is messed up.
I rooted my phone with 1 click root from android central, then i flashed it using odin and backed up my rom ( i guess stock touchwiz) with CWM from rom manager. Then i installed this theme: AOSP REVOLUTION a port on androidforums the adress is /fascinate-all-things-root/251094-theme-port-aosp-revolution.html ( after androidforums obviously, i cant post links!) ) -_-
I installed it by downloading the zip, renaming it to update, and launched CWM recovery and ran apply sd update.zip. Then i rebooted my phone the verizon logo flashed for a long time then the screen went black, and when i pressed the power buton all that happened is that the 4 buttons would light up.
Can anybody help me, sorry if i pissed you off because of my uber-noobness, but i just got the phone a month ago and rooted it yesterday. I made sure i followed the direction so my phone does mess up, but something went wrong after installing that theme. Thanks a FREAKING GAGILLION if you can help!
PS Another noob move but how do I run the backup that i made? sorry for my noobness if it offends u.
If you have ClockworkMod recovery installed, you just need to boot into it and restore your backup. Shut down the phone. Hold both volume up and down and then press power. When you see the Samsung logo, release power but keep holding the volume buttons. It'll boot into standard recovery. Select apply update.zip and it'll boot you into Clockwork. Should be easy to figure out how to restore from there.
If this doesn't work, then you don't have clockwork installed, or installed correctly. There should be a recent post on installing a new red clockwork. Follow that and then follow the instructions above except for applying update.zip. The new red clockwork boots directly, without going through the stock blue recovery first.
Alternately, there are various all-in-one Odin packages floating around here that will return you pretty much back to stock.
The problem you have here is that you flashed a theme that is made specifically for a the asop Rom. So the thing to do is download another Rom, place on root of sd card, boot into recovery (hold both volume keys and power until samsung logo flashes twice), wipe your data and cache, flash rom and reboot. I'm assuming you have updated to dl09 so you want a dl09 rom. here is a suggestion http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894126, just download system rom part, ignore the odin stuff. hope this helps

This was also a mistake. On this device CWM depends on there being a cwm update.zip on the root of you sd card. To flash a rom/kernel/theme on this device you leave it alone and placed anywhere on the card. When booted in to cwm you use the "install zip from sdcard" option.
good day.
Yes LordShark,
As mentioned above, you do not rename the file at all. You can call it "umpty-Squat-Rom-Of-The_gods.zip or whatever you want, you boot into the CWM and as pointed out above, you will choose install zip from card and you will navigate to that umpty-squat that you downloaded to the phone.
So pull your SD card out and download a ROM and place it in the SD Card in a folder you like, I personally just use the default location od SD CARD / CLOCKWORKMOD / DOWNLOAD and store all my ROMs and stuff in that folder.
Hope this helps. Do not get too excited, your not ubber borked.... even if you are in a total panic you can follow the Adrynalyne ODIN back to bone stock DI01 post and in not to long you will up and running.

Rom Manager

Since im not allowed to post this anywhere else here it is. I cant get rom manager to boot directly to the red recovery. Therefore I can no longer download roms and stuff thru rom manager . I see posts about deleting and renaming the update file in the clockwork folder on the sd card . Can anyone clarify this more ?

You can still download through rom manager, but you have to manually boot into recovery and browse for the zip. They are on the sdcard in clockworkmod/download.
In the cloclworkmod folder, delete "recovery-update.zip", copy your red CWM update.zip into this folder and rename it to "recovery-update.zip"
Is this in the root of the clockwork folder ? because i see a file called recovery in there . I put it in there and it didnt work

1) Get a working clockwork mod .ZIP file.
2) Put that file in two places:
/sdcard/update.zip
/sdcard/clockwork/recovery-update.zip
ROM Manager --> Reboot to Recovery Mode should load /sdcard/clockwork/recovery-update.zip
Phone Desktop --> Hold down power button --> Reboot to Recovery should load /sdcard/update.zip
If for whatever reason, you are not rebooting directly into Clockwork Mod Recovery (and booting into the stock Samsung recovery), just choose menu option: apply sdcard:update.zip. It will bring you into Clockwork Mod.
Note that if you are running a DL30 ROM, and recently flashed / updated Clockwork Mod Recovery through ROM Manager, then something screwed up. For whatever reason, ROM Manager downgraded Clockwork Mod Recovery from v2.5.1.0 --> v2.5.0.4. That version will not play nicely with DL30 ROMs. You will need to find a CWMR that works with DL30, and manually place it in the two locations specified above.
