CM6 Test8 wifi radio weirdness - Droid Incredible General

Hey all, jet wondering if anyone on here is running CyanogenMod 6 test 8 baseband 1.00.03.04.06 has seen their wireless radio error out. If I leave my phone alone, in the house, good wireless coverage I come back and I have no signal meter for wifi but the radio says its on but states "error" under wireless settings. Nothing major I just bounce the radio and she comes right up.
Thinking about upgrading the baseband and running the leaked ota 2.2 since the real ota is rumored to be a ***** to root. Open to suggestions if I should upgrade.
Thanks in advance

Im running the CM6 test 8 rom with the 1.x baseband and i have noticed a few wifi errors. Many times, my wifi will be on but not connected, so i just turn it off and back on. It doesent really bother me but I hope they fix this in the offical or next test update. As for upgrading your radio, I too have thought about it, but ill wait till the htc update to see which is better and if it could be rooted. I also really want the 720p video and the cool custom roms like skyraider that use it, but i think it would be better If i wait because It'll be a ***** to downgrade to the origional RUU. And then what If gingerbread comes out?

You know, that was my dilemma yesterday. I downloaded the lasted skyraider ROM and had a need to use the GPS which didn't work in the baseband. I just bit the bullet and downgraded it to 2.1 stock, installed the new basebad, rooted and applied skyraider's ROM. It took me 45 minutes. Downgrading is not as bad as you hear. Just make sure you are prepared. Make sure that your SD card is formated FAT 32 and the rest is easy. Good luck!

Update:
I unrooted, upgraded the baseband and installed the leaked 2.2 ota. It runs like a champ!

I'm going to get my new eris at 1.5 tomorrow so I will try it out anyway. I'll post back with my results
Wouldn't it be safe to flash any rom, if you have the recovery on an already rooted phone? That way you can just restore from a nandroid or BART backup if it doesn't work?

Is it worth trying? I read it could be faster, any truth to it?
If you have 1.5 dont install it, install my rom or wait til someone better than I comes up with a rom based on 2.1 ota.
I have been using the leak since the first day it came out.
Has anyone tried to downgrade from this leak to 1.5?

Doesn't work, tried with both the MR1 and MR2 RUU's -- Bootloader Version Error.
step 1 done:
upgraded leaked version to official 2.1
how exactly is this new version official?
now that i am on 2.1 official
step 2:
trying rooted 1.5 [FAIL] version is older
next step, try just 2.1 rooted version

Holy Hell this update is fast

Well, I had to jump through some hoops to upgrade, but I finally got the 2.2 OTA and it is FAST.
It's even faster than the leaked version I previously had on there.
The hoops:
I was on a rooted 2.2 leak so I had to flash back to 2.1, only the Windows flash utility failed at 97%.
Then I reset, cleared the cache and re-flashed (but this time in Linux) and it worked fine.
I booted into stock 2.1, re-activated my phone and then looked for the OTA.
It was there so I downloaded and installed.
I just finished reinstalling my apps and everything's good to go.

overall speed-wise? i'm thinking to update mine. I'm on 2.1 stock with root. I'd be bummed to lose root since real HDMI is a godsend. do i have to unroot first?
i wouldnt upgrade if youre rooted. i tried and got stuck at the m logo and bootloader is changed so you wont be able to flash back the 2.1 so id either make sure you dont have any rooted apps and youre unrooted or stay with 2.1
Gotta say, with 2.2+LauncherPro I don't even miss root or custom ROM's.

Same here, this is my setup too and it's awesome.
If you're rooted or on a 2.2 leak, I would definitely go through the processes of reverting to stock 2.1u1 (via SBF - http://rootzwiki.com/index.php/Smartphones/Motorola/Droid-X/Droid-X.html) before attempting the OTA update.
I hoped to see the OTA this morning but it wasn't there. So I checked for updates & there it was. It loaded fast & with no issues. I had factory 2.1 without root. I love it so far.

That's partly due to you clearing off your phone. I sbf'd back to 2.1u1 last night and reapplied the leaked 2.2, root, 2.3.15, tranquility, then serenity, and HOLY SMOKES this is faster than it was before I did this. Like, WICKED fast! And yeah, that's without the bloatware-filled OTA. Got the same system as you do too: 2.3.15, just leaked and deodexed
Except your missing the new radio and kernal Also im running the legit 2.2OTA, and have rooted it via the droid2 method..now just have to manually deodex it and ill be all set

Just a heads up, I was running full stock 2.1, however I was rooted, and I did the OTA update with 0 problems. I lost root, but used the Droid 2.2 method and got it back. No issues whatsoever.

Problems with update
has anyone had any issues after update? A friend of mine has the Droid X, he was running original ROM not rooted, and he did the OTA update and is complaining that his phone is running slow and crashes periodically.

All im saying, is why bother with incomplete leaks? Why not take the little effort and do the real OTA?? I SBF'd back to 2.1.. Then did the OTA 2.2 Update, and then did the automatic 1 click Droid2 Root method.. and had a rooted, legitimate 2.2 update in less then 30 minutes after the initial SBF back down
What your doing is like buying a car with no doors on it.. Why run just the leaked system folder, when you can just get the total package that comes with an updated Radio and Kernal along with it? Why have an incomplete update with some components missing, when its not even that big of a deal to get the actual, 2.2 total package and have it rooted in 5 minutes anyway

I think you over-estimate the value of the kernel (which is actually the same version - just a different build-string) and the radio (which is a very small incremental bump in version).
The downsides to the upgrade (for hackers/themers) is that there is no sbf for 2.2 right now and it's been reported that once you OTA, you can not flash back to 2.1 via sbf or you'll brick.
If you're a 'stock' kinda guy, then OTA is probably the way to go. Those that like tinkering a little deeper, need the safety net of an SBF.
I agree. I personally think it would not be smart to OTA at this time if you have the desire to run anything other than stock on your phone (whether you can get root or not). I hear the new OTA doesn't run wireless tether for root users (not sure about this).
I'm still running the original 2.2 leak rooted. After all the problems I've been hearing about with tranquility, I would like to wait until I hear less complaints. Although from what I've read, most of the problems come from user error and people not following the instructions so I'm definitely not knocking P3Droid or Team Black Hat.
We have a system sbf file now for 2.2, that's all youll ever need unless you try something crazy, I have the OTA, rooted and also manually deodexed it myself and running my old theme I liked before.. Adfree is also working fine on my OTA unlike some others... What im saying is im not missing anything over the leak, If anything I have more. The 2.3.15 deodexed leak gives me nothing I don't already have because I was able to deodex and root the official myself.

Very strange, I haven't had a single problem with anything, and I've used everything you listed...,im even pulling 1490 in quadrants
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
And I was pulling similar quadrant scores from the leaks which have the SAME STUFF as the OTA. All they did was increase the version number for the radios and kernel. Even the sbf TBH released isn't the full complete sbf I'd like to have for a safety net (though I trust them when they do say that it is good for everything except folks trying to get out of brick b/c they sbf'd to 2.1u1).
Besides, getting to OTA may be quick, but getting back to where my phone is NOW but with the OTA kernel would take HOURS. No thanks. Not till it is optimized and deodexed and cleaned up by TBH.
Running the OTA, and wile everything works, I'm not seeking an overall speed increase. Some individual things are definitely faster: the browser, gmail, lock screen. But, others are the same, and some, occasionally laggy (may be that's due to my apps? ADWlauncher?).
It's not that the system is slow, just that I don't see any overall boost (certainly not the JIT impact written about in the Froyo coverage).
Compared to 2.1, those things are much snappier. Also, clearing the cache helps with this too.

[Q] question about returning to stock.

im going to guess that the answer is probably no but, it never hurts to ask. heres the situation: im a noob when it comes to flashing roms and rooting and hacking android and what not.
so, my intention was just to stay stock and get the updates from sprint. well when dk28 came out, everyone was saying that this IS the official 2.2 update and all you have to do is download the update.zip and install. that sounded easy enough so thats what i did. i now have 2.2 dk28 on my phone. now , everything runs perfect and faster than 2.1 did with the exception of gps. gps is dead. but heres the question. can i go back to stock 2.1 di18 without rooting, using odin, or any other complicated way? like is there a di18.zip i could just download and install? im in no hurry to go back to 2.1 but when the real official 2.2 comes out i want to get it and ill need to be on 2.1 to do so.
This thread might help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861259
but I think you might still need to root. I didn't read to far into it since i have no problems with Odin myself
i was brave.. i went ahead and installed and used odin. im back to 2.1 and gps fired right up. i think im gonna sit on 2.1 for the rest of the year. if official 2.2 isnt out by dec 31st ill try everything to get gps running on dk28. if i succeed then ill just leave it at that.

[q] new aria user and confused

I just exchanged a defective captivate for the ariaand looking at some of the threads confused. Do I root now or wait for froyo??? when I have froyo will rooting give me acces to the portable wifi hot spot feature???
If you're planning on rooting at some point, then you might as well get on with it. You can have Froyo now with either CyanogenMod 6.1 or Liberated FR008. Both have the wireless hotspot feature included.
If you wait for the AT&T Froyo update, you will probably be waiting awhile, and at least for now, you are not able to gain root once you've applied the official update.

If and when HTC/AT&T release Froyo for the Aria, chances are the wifi hot spot will be disabled.
My advice would be to root now and then install either CyanogenMod 6.1 with is AOSP Froyo 2.2 or Libertated FR008 ROM (HTC Sense w/ Froyo 2.2) from the European Gratia. Both of these custom ROM have the Froyo Wifi hot spot enabled and working.
Ihave a few questions...how do i find htc sync and install it?? after getting modified froyo on does that stop att upgrade? and all modified upgrades roms manual intal?

You can download HTC Sync from here:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/aria-att/downloads/
Nobody really knows if the Liberated ROM will get a notification about the AT&T upgrade because it has not happened yet.
Yes all of the custom ROMS are manual install.
keep in mind that when ATT releases the FroYo update it will probably be unable to ROOT at first. they love to add new securities to make life interesting for us hackers
if you do get an Aria check out my Aria Superthread Guide for info about how to mod your new phone
I do own an aria
thanks for the files!! doing root now

It should tell you when it is finished.
One word of advice, unrevoked didn't work for me under windows. I think the Ubuntu LiveCD method is pretty trustworthy though.
I've used UnrEVOked to root 3 different Arias with no problems... so if you don't want to go with the Ubuntu method, go ahead and try Unrevoked.
if unrevoked were working, would I see a series of messages?? I just started it , should the mesage pushing recovery stay on for sometime? how long should it take? Im running win 7 pro 64 bit
It took me about five minutes using the ubuntu method. If it pauses at waiting to reboot, it's safe to take it out, and start it over again I believe.

Random reboots on rooted stock 2.2.1. Need to upgrade???

Its the phone that I gave to my wife and its starting to do the random reboots often. I think I wanna go ahead and upgrade to 2.3."?" but I wanna make sure I could root it. Is the GPS is working on those. GB ROMs or should I just flash a custom 2.2.1? My wife won't know the difference but I still would like to put a ROM with the least bugs possible (Froyo or GB) that has the best battery life and GPS possible. Which is it? Sorry I would like to do my homework and read, read, read but she needs a functional phone now so forgive me if I sound like I'm just lazy and I want the ROM handed to me. Thx for your support people.

If you update to 2.3.4, you will lose root and 2.3.4 can't be rooted at this time, people with 2.3.4 have to downgrade back to 2.2, if you want 2.3.4 on it, I would give Virtuous Unity a try

just reflash the rom youre running now or flash a newer rom. VU is very stable or sense 3.5 roms like runnymede and bliss are the new hype.
