*Brown* tint on new Vibrants? - Vibrant General

Okay so I am on my third Vibrant. My first Vibrant was perfect in every way except battery (which seems to be a general issue) and the settings touchkey become unresponsive (which is the reason I changed it). I got my second replacement in the mail and noticed a huge different in screen colors:
hxxp://i36.tinypic.com/15gt5qs.jpg <--- I did not properly link cause this is a new account and I can't post a link of these forums.
The one on the left is the second Vibrant while the one on the right is the first Vibrant. Seeing other Vibrants - in videos, at the store, etc. - I figured my second Vibrant's screen was defective so I called in and had T-Mobile replace it again. However, the third Vibrant I just got seems to have the same problem as the second Vibrant.
(The first Vibrant was a 7/11, the second was a 7/19, and the third is a 7/18.)
I know here is already existing discussion about screen tints, but I am not sure if my problem is the same as that being already discussed, or if the new Vibrant's have different hardware than before (the software seems to be the same, with build date of 6/22).
Any input is greatly appreciated! I would really like the screen that my first Vibrant had, so if I have to I will go for a fourth replacement.
Thanks!

Seems like you created your own monster. I really don't know what you all are doing with your phones to create all of these problems but I haven't had any of these issues and Ive had the phone since day 1.

not sure if that's the best background to judge "color tint"
if it helps, looking at your pix and my phone, mine looks more like the one on the right, but a lot of that could be the color settings on my screen and the color balance you used in taking the picture
you might try, on android market is an app called "Color FLash" - it's a freebie, but it basically turn your screen all white (to use as a flashlight)
but in it you can adjust brightness or even select colors to display - you might download it, and set to full bright in white to see if or what tint the screen's showing
if it's only that settings page showing a brown tint, it could be in the software and to be frank, if that were the case i wouldn't worry about that page being brown tint
fwiw

No question in my mind there are significant variances amongst screens.
I got two Vibrants on the same day from a T-Mo store. My GF's screen was noticeably dimmer. When we dialed in the settings to give the same brightness, hers was a good deal warmer (aka: red). Mine is considerably cooler (aka: blue).
So... we went back the store a few days later to exchange hers. We had 4 Vibrants out at one time and none had the same screen characteristics. Mine was the brightest but bluest, the others mixes. She took the next brightest one that had a more neutral color cast.
This is either QC trouble at Samsung or the nature of the beast with AMOLED displays. Remember, OLED is new and immature. Blue OLEDs especially are proving to be a problem. We're on the bleeding edge.
With that said, and with what I've seen and read, I would not sweat the differences in screens unless the color cast is really screwy.

I think you should post your pics and discussion here:

that way we can keep tint problems all in one thread.
these phones all have different tints, makes no freaking sense to me why there are such fluctuations in QC and manufacturing. It is really starting to piss me off.
You walk into an Apple store, you see like 10 iPhones on display, the screen tints look identical on each one.
You put vibrants next to eachother, and each tint is different, from blue to blue/green, to yellow, to dingy dark yellow to brown.
I contacted samsung directly and let them know about the tint issue, the rep replies "we have never heard about this tint problem before, you are the first to report it."
YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME SAMSUNG. MY GOD

just buy an iPhone.
And that is not a fair comparison.
When was the last time you saw Apple using a SAMOLED screen.
They just use LCD.
Samsungs LCDs don't have tint problems.
this is a problem with the technology.
You should really do some more research instead of pulling the whole Apple is perfect BS.

What color tint does your screen have? Blue, Yellow or Neutral?

In conjunction to the post, "blue tint problem," which isn't really a problem but anyway....
I thought it'd be interesting to create a poll to see where everyone's at with their Vibrants.
Please participate in the poll, it'll be very interesting to see...
So if you're on the blue side or yellow side, obviously submit yours accordingly, however, for neutral that's for those who have calibrated monitors that can get true comparisons to determine if it's neutral.
There's no need to lie here LOL..it's just for fun so the more accurate it is the better. Don't just click neutral if you don't really know for sure. Try comparing your phone first with other Vibrants to be sure.
Here we go!
It's slight blue, but related to viewing angle and screen brightness. Viewing straight on, it's pretty neutral.

I know what you mean. Could the SAMOLED screen perhaps slightly change in its color tone as it warms up?
When I fired up the two Vibrants I have that was turned on for the first time and compared it to my other two which has been in use, the two never been used phones screen looked identical in its tone/shade.
So perhaps over time it does change as it, "breaks in?"
Does anyone know if this blue tint will get better with time? Mine seems to be the same, wondering if I should exchange my phone.
Well, mine is more cyan, though I can understand people calling it blue and it's driving me crazy. Even with brightness all the way up, there is no real white. This issue will likely cause me to return my Vibrant - along with the cheap build quality - as my Nexus screen looks much better and neutral in comparison. Even my wife noticed it immediately though she also has a Nexus.
Neutral, I've compared with monitors and other Vibrants from my T-Mobile store.
The blue should fade over time..sometimes they put in a bit of extra blue to compensate the blue's lower life span..if you want to even it out use a blue background as your home screen for a while and it should even out >.>

Are you sure it will fade? Where did you get that info from, I know wikipedia talks about this and says the same thing, but wikipedia is not really that accurate. Where did you get your info?
I downladed an LCD test app from market, i'm running a constanst blue screen hoping it will help fade out the blue tint a bit. thanks

When compared to mine my wife's had a very strong blue tint to it. Since I ordered ours over the phone I called Tmobile. They overnighted me a replacement without any hassle, I'd give them a call and see what they will do for you.
posted this in the other "blue tint" thread too
"...since the OLED material used to produce blue light degrades significantly more rapidly than the materials that produce other colors, blue light output will decrease relative to the other colors of light...In order to delay the problem, manufacturers bias the colour balance towards blue so that the display initially has an artificially blue tint, leading to complaints of artificial-looking, over-saturated colors..."

I guess if your imagining a blue tint, or don't know how to change screen settings them maybe you need a less advanced device.

I guess if you did not receive a defective Vibrant with an extremely blue screen, even with brightness all the way up and power saving mode off, your not qualified to speak for those who did. Of course it would not make sense to you.
i dont know about you guys but every time Ive ever seen a white LED its always had a blueish tint (like automotive LED's) its really not that big of an issue
My display was noticeably blue the moment I turned it on... going to the T-Mobile store today to see if I can get a better unit with a more neutral color temperature.

It matters to some people more than others. If it doesn't bother you then great. It's not really fair to criticize people who are bothered by it--one should have a reasonable expectation for color accuracy of their display, especially for a device so touted as being a multimedia powerhouse.

I have that issue with the blue screen and for some reason I'm the only one who sees it, I work for T-Mobile and I was showing my co-workers that there is a blue tint to the screen and they didn't see it it until I compared it to another phone. I'm also a graphic artist and I guess we see colors that others don't notice cuss we have too that's what we do. I also had a issue with the screen, there was some pixelation on my screen so I exchanged it.

You know, some people here say every Super Amoled has a blue tint. I have to disagree. I've been comparing my vibrant side by side to other vibrants, and the screens vary from phone to phone. Samsung deffinately has some manufacturing inconsistences. Side by side to other Vibrants, my screen has a very visible dark grayish blue tint. Other vibrants have a slight blue/green tint. While other vibrants i've compared to have gorgeus warm whites. 1 vibrant had a very dingy yellow look to all the whites. So this is not in our imagination, the screens vary a lot on these phones.
My cousin just got the vibrant this morning, she had not seen mine. She saw mine this morning and says "why is your screen blue?" Put mine side by side next to hers, and hers has nice warm bright whites. All of our brightness settings were identical.
I'll be exchanging shortly when I have time.

So, does your replacement still show the blue screen tint?

Different looking colors on 2 Incredibles?

I've got two incredibles side by side. Both are apparently listed as 'samsung_oled_display' with dmesg.
Right one has a purple tint that is more obvious on low brightness. But colors pop more, more contrast, saturation. On high brightness, whites and blacks look more right.
Left is slightly brighter on equal settings. Has a slight yellowy tint that's more noticeable on high brightness. But nowhere near as obvious as the purple tint.
Any thoughts? What looks more like the typical Incredible display people get?
it looks like maybe some of your LED backlights aren't as bright, or out completely. notice the shadow on the edges of the two sides? i don't notice a difference other than in one of the pictures, though. maybe do a better job taking pictures that aren't as shaky/blurry?
Best I could do, the incredible is my best camera and couldn't use it.
And which picture and which phone are you referring to?
I'm more just wondering why there's such a difference, and which one looks most accurate to what everyone else has?
3rd picture is the one i noticed it on. however, i wouldn't say....with the pictures i have in front of me....that either are too far off from what "everyone else has".
if you're that concerned about it, call VZW.
I had the same problem with a replacement, had to get a new refurb that didn't have a pink screen. Customer service is not aware of the issue, you might have to take it to a store and even the techs might not see it.
Sent from my ADR6300
I did, this is my replacement ha... I'm not going to ask for a third, I'm just deciding which one is more like the rest.
And you don't think either are too far from what others have? Between the two there's a decent variation, Samsung amoled manufacturing just vary that much?
Only the first picture can I see a noticeable difference
I'm aware of people reporting a pinkish tint, but I didn't think its the same, since this comes off as purple to me.
And yea the first picture is the most obvious, but if you just look at the color difference in white, gray, black for the other 3 pictures, you can tell they're different tones/shades.
Honestly the left one is 'warmer' in tone and the right one is 'cooler'. Though right has better contrast and is overly saturated.
I think I'll probably keep the left one even though the right one is hands down amazing looking in full brightness, but looks all purplish in low, which is basically the setting I'll be using the phone most in.
Amoleds don't have background leds, the pixels emt the light themselves, as fat as I know

OLED doesnt use backlighting
Just pick the one that is easiest on your eyes. Yes colours will vary differently by batch (not usually by this much but really I can't tell a lot by these pictures). Personally to me overall one doesn't appear as bright as the other, so if they are using the same profiles, I'd take the bright one (but that's just me).
I think you are making a mountain out of mole hill. They both look ok, yes different but acceptable. It's a phone, you are not going to be doing Photoshop or high end video processing. If it bugs you, by all means take it back and ask for an exchange.
Oh I did, that's why I have two
And no I'm not, I can easily ask for a third. But like I said I won't.
I just thought I can get some expert opinions from others, -and- start a discussion.
There was a thread regarding evo's @ i6.photobucket. com/albums/y204/blu3g/002and003.jpg
that got some discussion.

They get dimmer over time, so yes the brighter one if in newer condition.
I'd prefer S-LCD to AMOLED anyday just for the fact that I dont have to worry about the screen dimming over time or burning in.
My girlfriends is like that. We both got our phones at the same time last June, same screens. She lost hers, and while her new one is AMOLED it's pinkish. It's only REALLY noticeable when the screen dims.
.... Seriously? You're complaining about a tint... A TINT!!!! the phone still works the same right? my replacement has the purplish tint too but who cares nobodies going to look at and say oh man your phone has a purplish tint what a fag lol
He was just asking a question because like most people on this forum, we are intrigued by how tech works, and we like to ask why do gadgets so the things they do, he wasn't complaining. Everybody who is saying that he needs to stop complaining needs to calm down, this isn't 4 chan. If you don't know why the screens are different colors, then there's no point in you commenting on this thread, especially if its to talk down to somebody under false accusations like some of you are.

i jsut got a replacement in the mail a week ago and i saw the same differences between my old one and new one. And i've heard of this happening to other people. Here is a thread all about this. I havent taken the time to read it but im sure it has the answer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656128
P.S. Garrett, you sound like a real douche
I've seen similar in my phone. I had to turn it in for a replacement and the first thing I noticed when I booted the new phone up was "hey, that white looks more pink than the original phone." Just to make sure I wasn't insane, I showed my wife the new phone and she immediately pops out "hey, that looks pink."
It's not bad enough that it's really a problem, just a little different, and the difference only really pops out at low brightness. I'm not going to re-return over it. At least this one doesn't have the spazzed out and possessed optical joystick that my first Inc did.

[Q] Yellow tint when backlight is dim, normal?

Is it normal for the screen to be a bit yellow when the back-light is dim? While the back light is ~50% to 100% it's a nice clear white. When it's turned down though it has a yellow/green tint. I had an Epic before the fascinate, and it was always a clear white. Side-by-side the epic was also a bit brighter.
Picked up a Droid X yesterday, since it was the last day for the buy one get one free, and it's screen is even brighter than the fascinate. Which seems to contradict most of the reviews and comparisons I've read.
I'm wondering if this is normal, or if i should get it exchanged since it's only my 3rd day with the phone.
It's funny that you say something like that because I used to have the epic and the screen on my fascinate has colors off as well. whites look yellower and greys and blacks have a red hue so they look almost maroon. My brother's fascinate does not have these issues and looks exactly as my epic did.
edit: also, this is with any screen brightness not just minimum

it is yellowish at 0%, yes, but darker greys are almost maroon as I said
it makes the lighter greys look green and the darker greys look maroon, so it's definitely something i'll be exchanging in the near future. I just need to have the time
My whites also have a yellow tint. Is this anything to worry about or will Voodoo ColorFix fix it?
I think my wife's phone has the same issue. After reading this thread I compared them and there is definitely a difference.
There doesn't seem to be a difference at the higher brightness settings though. (remove the space in the url to see my comparison)
This is at 0% brightness (my wife's is on the left)

I would. The store should do an even exchange. After all, the screen is best part of the galaxy S phones.
My wife and I just got back from exchanging her phone, and out of two new phones they checked, they both had the same yellow hue... their display unit didn't, and neither did the associate's Fascinate who helped us. I wasn't going to make them open more phones up as this store has been really good to us.
The associate said he thinks that may just be the way they are manufacturing them. If that is the case, perhaps it is the software, and there is a setting buried somewhere that can be changed. I'm not sure, but I am curious to hear about everyones results on their exchanges.

Samsung did an awful job calibrating the display. Colors are extremely saturated(I'm a home theater buff and it looks like that awful dynamic/vivid setting.) I don't mind it though. I just wish this could display whites like my Droid. Maybe I should try returning it and see if I can get one with a working GPS and good screen?

I don't believe that it is just the way they are manufacturing them or else both mine, my epic's, and my brother's display would all be the same regarding colors. The colors should not be so significantly different between two units of the same model if they are manufacturing them properly. I will be returning mine and making sure they open them until the displays are properly colored... I am only returning one unit and I, like most consumers on xda, am not part of the majority they serve so I actually... well, notice the color difference.
Please don't put me in the "unwarranted exchange" club! My display really is off, and I haven't seen this in any of the other Galaxy S forums, just the Fascinate. I feel ripped off after having switched from Verizon to Sprint for the Epic, then being unsatisfied with my sprint bill/Epic switching back to Verizon and getting a junk display.

What's funny, and is actually kind of bugging me now is that my phone (without the yellowish tint) has noticeably dimmer capacitive buttons than my wifes new one. This might be due to it almost being a month old vs. one that is only a few hours. But if the LEDs are diminishing that quickly, what will they look like in another month, or even six months from now? I just don't think Samsung's quality control is what it should be.
As far as the screen, it isn't that big of a deal to me since the phone only has the yellow hue on the dimmest settings. If it were noticeable on brighter, or even mid settings then I'd be having a fit until we got one that looked good to us.
Your particular case sounds like it is way worse than what my wife and I have experienced. It sounds like a genuine defect, and you SHOULD get a replacement.
I just got back with my new one, no yellow tint at all.
The Vibrant has had similar issues with their displays. Ranges from a brown to a blue tint even. I've read a few about Epics having a yellow tint as well. So it's not unique to the fascinate.
I don't mind "vibrant" colors as long as the black is as black as possible. Even if it makes my ViewSonic look dull.
Now that I really look at it, whites are very blue tinted, while other colors are yellow tinted or over-saturated(which is on every one of these. The D1, D2, DX, and iPhone 4 are the only phones I've ever seen calibrated correctly out of the box.) Is this a defect? I am just happy these whites aren't like my friend Incredible's. His whites get black streaks down one line of pixels(it's hard to explain, but looks awful.) To return or not to return? If I return they better apply a new Invisible Shield for free.
Wow, you guys are really picky. I'm not about to say that my Fascinate's screen is perfect, but then again, no screen is. They ALL have flaws, one way or another. I for one have noticed that whites have a bluish tint, which strangely changes to a yellowish tint when I press on the screen. Does this make me want to complain and return the phone? Of course not. It really is not worth the hassle of going through that. Honestly though, I've never seen a screen that looks more awesome than this super AMOLED screen, despite the minor flaws. Guess there's just no pleasing some people. ;-)

The screen on my new one seems pretty perfect to me. No tints, and certainly doesn't change color when i touch it. Guess some people prefer to accept defects and substandard quality control.
Squeaky wheel gets the oil.
Went into the Verizon store today - the associate who I spoke with immediately recognized the problem, but I did pull out my brother's fascinate without color issues so we wouldn't have to go and check a floor model.
At first she said "Here, it's probably fixed" when she turned the backlight up, but when I showed her the difference between the two phones with the backlight dimmed to lowest. I mentioned the battery drain with it higher would not really be acceptable to me, she was more than glad to accept it as an exchange for a new Fascinate.
I also had my contract switched over to 1 year because I forgot to do that when I was in there and getting my old fascinate... sort of happens when you're sitting around for two hours. Picked up the extended battery too - not nearly as bad as people say unless you're shirt-pocketing it.
Took all of 45 minutes, I guess I was lucky - the longest part was the line.
Tints vary from handset to handset.
Hey just wanted to chime in.
I've compared Epic, Fascinate, Vibrant, and Captivate side by side. Here is what I found, almost no two screens have the same hue/tint/.
These are the following tints I've noticed.
Pink
Yellow (the best in my opinion)
Brown
blue/green
blue
blue/gray
When testing the phones, I set them side by side, and set the same brightness levels to test.
Why these tints vary so much, from individual to individual handset is a good question. I saw two Epic's in a sprint store side by side, one was blue tinted one was brown. Same exact settings. So strange.

Not all Nexus S SAMOLED Displays are the same

Hi everyone,
I'm starting this thread to show you guys that not all Nexus S AMOLEDS are the same. I purchased a Nexus S on launch day from one store, and my brother bought a nexus S from another best buy store. We were comparing each others phones, and mine turned out to be darker than his, specifically the whites. We compared our screens at full brightness, and we set the same backgrounds, and his was noticeably better looking. So I went and exchanged mine, the new one I got still suffered from having darker whites, but it was not as bad as the first one, so when we compared them again, his was still better. I took a few pictures of the new one i got compared with his (on right). It may not look like much, but if you look at it in person, it's very noticeable when they are next to each other. I think you guys should compare your nexus s with a display model at a store, or with someone else to see what I'm talking about. I think it's easiest to see what i'm talking about if you look at the search widget. Like I said the first one I had was worse, but I'm comparing the newly exchanged one (left) with my brothers (right).

It's like my mom says not everything can be 100% perfect
Yeah I know what you're speaking of. I started a thread here about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877497
I went through this when I bought dual monitors for my computer. It is nearly impossible to find two monitors exactly the same. You will not know the difference unless you keep comparing it to others.

lol thats true. it made me laugh lol
download a solid white wallpaper. set the brightness to the highest. if one of them is cool blue white then this is good screen. if its warm yellowish white, then its a bad screen.
also there is the issue with pinkish disaplay. download a solid gray wallpaper. set the brightness to the lowest, if the gray turns to pink a little. you have a defective screen no matter what others tell you. if it stays gray " like my old Samsung Galaxy S " then you have a perfect screen.
AND there is also the grid pattern matrix you can see on the lowest brightness on the same gray wallpaper. ALL of them are more visible on the Super Amoled screens, just try to get one that is not very noticable.
if you got all those 3 perfectly " with no dead pixels or stuck pixels. then your phone worth alot.
i sold my galaxy S USED more than i bought it NEW because of these effects when i mentioned them to the buyer and he saw with his own eyes the difference. plus it didnt have single scratch on the whole phone so it was like a brand new.

No one's nitpicking. It's a matter of what you're willing to settle for. I paid my 580.00 for a phone to display the colors correctly. I didn't pay that much for the display to change colors just because I lower the brightness.

it's hard to show what i'm talking about in the picture, but in person (picture was taken with iphone 4, so it wont show that much), it is very noticeable if the two are side by side.

ya, after i took pics, i realized they were not on the same page on the home screen.
This is a very common issue on the Galaxy S phones too. Different suppliers are used in the manufacturing process resulting in some screens with warmer color temps, and others with cooler ones. The Engadget review of the Nexus S specifically called out a warmer temp by the way.

Dumb question, but did you verify that the brightness levels in settings are set to the same values? Or at least compared the two phones when at the lowest and highest settings?

ya, i actually made sure they were both brightest, and when they are both on the lowest, you can tell one of them displays brighter whites. But the first one I had was worse than the one I have in the pictures on the left, it's hard to notice that you have a screen that does not produce nice whites, unless you see another nexus s that does a better job.
I actually like the ones on the left, the ones on the right crush the blacks, resulting in basically everything washed out, even if it "looks" better to you, it isn't from a calibrator prospective.
The Evo 4G had the same thing going on with its display. HTC used 2 different Manufacturers for the screen, One Novatec, One Was Epson. I believe the Novatec panel had darker colors (warmer?) resulting in more of a purplish color on blacks (what ll_l_x_l_ll calls pink for whatever reason) While the epson didnt have any purplish tone, but most say had a washed out look.
I would say though that on the nexus S, probably 99% of them are going to have a little purplish effect on the lowest brightness setting. If the OPs brothers phone has no purplish color, that would be the first i have seen. Ive seen many many demo units, several video reviews, and even the 2.3 rom ported to other galaxy S phones, and they all have the "purplish" display.
All my whites on my phone are really white, and blacks are really black.
Only be concerned if your screen looks like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882862
That would definatley warrant an exchange, because they are NOT supposed to look like that.
My Screen looks better than his I9000 though too, but that could be his camera too washing out the colors a bit

Yeah my camera isn't great, it was poor light but it was enough to show the difference.
My i9000 screen is pretty incredible, I'd be impressed if I saw one better.
Oddly though, you say that if it turns blue when the brightness is turned right up, it's a good screen - my Nexus S does that. But it's yellow when the brightness is low.
Personally I think I'm going to take your advice in another thread. I'm going to return this phone for a refund, enjoy using my i9000 for a while as it's now apparent that the screen is excellent (I never really had GPS issues either, so I'm pretty lucky), and go around stores when they have stock to find a screen that compares favourably against my i9000. I'm in a nice position that I can do a side-by-side comparison each time.

bazinga.

Why not load up Google site in the browser to do your comparison? That way its identical.
lol
So, I guess not many of you have ever messed around with the LCD monitor in front of you (if you have one).
Mine I can set to be a cool white or a warm white.
Here is the real problem... Your brother is smarter than you. You see, there is a difference maybe in the screens. But instead of him *****ing about it, he likely just said his was better. Thus leaving you with the **** screen.
The tables could have been turned if you would have said "HAHA your screen is broken, and mine is better" the second you found the screens were different. Then it would be him here all upset about the screen.
The things people ***** about on this form are just crazy. And no, I don't care about how much you spent on your phone. When you buy any product you should only have a expectation that it is usable, not perfect. And thats mostly because perfect is mostly opinion when it comes to things like this.
Also, this is a phone, not a pro display marked for having the most accurate color production.
What kills me most is the people who take phones back over and over for problems that only exist in their heads. All you are doing is raising the cost of phones and keeping them high for everybody else.

Sh***y Display & 5 exchanges...

Hi to all,
I would like to share my brief experience with Galaxy S2. After changing 4 phones when I saw defects on the screen of the 5th one I fed up and returned it for good.
The manufacturing quality of these displays are absolutely garbage on these phones. I own SGS and the screen is perfect. I expected the same thing with SGS2 especially if I pay 700 for a phone. when I came home and compared 2 phones I was disappointed.
Here is my experience with 5 phones. I live in Toronto so these phones purchased locally. First three of them from Best Buy, last 2 from Bell.
1.) Colors were fine but there was a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. A black dot. I exchanged the phone.
2.) In store I checked the phone for defects and couldn't find one (because of bright environment). I went to movie right after the purchase and realized in 2 min something was wrong with colors. When you dim the light, there was no grey. It was purple. keyboard was purple, gmail was purple. I exchanged it.
3.) Colors were so so. Still had a visible pink tint on it. and when you tilt the phone and view from different angles colors were changing, having a blue tint. If you view with 90 degrees it was pinkish again. (there is no such problem on my SGS)
addition to this, when in a dark room if you open a pure black picture the screen was showing some defects (dark black lines and spots on screen).
When you pull down the status bar, in low brightness there were some bands.
I returned the phone, got my refund and wanted to buy form somewhere else to see maybe its a batch problem.
4.) I went to another place. Got my phone. Screen had no defects but it was like someone pissed on it. It had a yellow tint. whole screen. colors were so pale. I actually kinda missed the pink tint. which was better and giving more vivid colors. I exchanged it the same day.
5.) It had a pink tint( which is ok since I got used to it). It had no banding when you pull down status bar and displays pure black very good.
BUTTTTT!!!! when you pull down status bar there was a half centimeter diameter white spot. And once you see it u never not see it. It was there in every pic (mostly grey colors)
I had enough and returned it. I wish I could find a good one like my SGS(which I didn't have such problems)
I tried 5!!!!! phones and none of them had a perfect display. Such a shame for a 700 dollar phone. I decided to wait and see if its gonna change in several months or not.
Maybe they shipped all the dodgy ones to Canada. I have a UK model (bought just over 2 months ago) and my screen is fine - no dead pixels, no purple or yellow tint...

Maybe they rushed the manufacturing for Canada. who knows. But one thing is obvious there are literally 2 different screens. I had been many stores. Many. And Checked maybe 30 display phones and from different stores and there are either Yellow tint screen or Pink tint screen.
Even if half of all the SGS2's have defective screens, the probability of you getting five in a row is 3%.
Yeah, maybe Toronto is receiving all the defective, returned ones. Or maybe you're just really unlucky. Or cursed.
Wow, that's a string of badluck. I've had mine for a couple of months now and have had no screen problems.

Yeah its probably because of my girlfriend. She never wanted me to get this phone since I am already in 3 year contract with bell owning SGS and had to purchase the phone with full price.
Also many first time buyers might not see those things. I have SGS at home and can compare. My sgs has a blue tint too but at least when you view from different angles colors don't change at all and not a single imperfection. And blue tint makes the whites brighter and less irritating than having a yellow white.

You should have kept number 4. Yellow tint was a software issue and KG2/KG3 fixes it.
I only had to exchange once due to 2 dead/stuck pixels on the bottom left. Haven't seen any of the other issues you mentioned.
Sorry about that my friend, Hope you get a good one soon.
My screen is fine, but i noticed something as you said. When seeing a full black color while using any screen test app. I see many lines like drawing if looked closely :

Exactly. However when I open the same test pattern in SGS and put side by side, my sgs is smooth ad butter. Nothing on it. Just pure color, no imperfections whatsoever.
I have a question to you. When you dim the light do your status bar and other button colors band whites (such as keyboard, swype keyboard) has a purplish tint? Is it normal or a defect?
When I opened keyboards those buttons appear purplish. In my sgs they are grey.
I'm in Vancouver and got mine a few days ago shipped from Bell. No problems here with screen colors or dead pixles. My son also dropped it on tile already and not a single scratch, thank god. Still waiting for my case from ebay.

Nothing else except that, and bro my phone is always having 0% brightness hehe.
and to be more precise those drawings on full black color looks like burns on old CRT tv when suddenly power cuts isn't it ? haha
Anyways, Colors are vivid and really better than my LED TV.
and no viewing angle problems.
Do i really need to worry about those drawing while on full black? though you see them only if you look closer or focus ur eyes for long
mine has a blue tint when viewing off angle
so is this not normal because my buddy's is the same

I dont know what is normal or not no one knows. But I am assuming if there is no color shifting when tiliting on my SGS this one shouldn't have it either.
I really wonder if people don't realize whether their screen is yellowish/purplish or their phones are just perfect.
As far as I see there is no natural color phone toronto by now. And belive me I am not exaggerating it. If you put those two phones side by side their color tint is completely different. What kinda manufacturing is this?
I can even say which stores in toronto have what colors.
If u wanna see purplish tint display phones:
-Future shop in dundas
-Bestbuy in dufferin mall
-Source in dufferin mall
-Bell in Eaton center (lower floor store)
Yellow tint display phones:
-Bell Eaton center second floor they had like 5-6 displays which were all yellow)
-virgin mobile in dufferin mall.
I don't even remember some stores. this doesn't mean if u buy from there u are gonna get the same color phone. Its totally random. These are the colors of display phones.
i dont understand man, i have mine for 2 months now in UK, screen is fine it is the best screen i have ever seen.
it could be a trick from Apple hahahahha not wanting SGS2 to succeed in the USA and Canada.....

Apple has patented the concept of a display that completely works. If Samsung didn't have some sort of defect, Apple would file another lawsuit.

Yeah, gotta love the deadpan humor. Some members here are quite good at it.
I had a dead pixel when I ordered mine when it was released in UK about 2-3months ago. The dead pixel went away within 2 days of owning. Maybe your 1st device was your best 1 with a little more patience.
Theres no excuse to you having 5 devices with problems. I really think there might be quality control problems with the screen manufactors. But I do know this is probably a very small percentage since it doesnt seem widespread.
Wow man messed up. I bought mine from China and it's the best. Absolutely perfect no defects at all! Perfect just Perfect!
well I just got off the phone with Samsung and they told me that what I'm seeing is a defect
I don't know if I should exchange it for another one or just return it and stick with the Atrix
