How long should it take? I have done it a couple times before so that I could use Apps2SD and then back to a single partition to use Froyo, then back to an ext partition set up. Now, I was trying to partition back to a single FAT32 partition, but it seems like it has been doing it for a lot longer than it previously did. Is it stuck in a loop, or should I just battery pull and assume it worked?

If you're checking for the partition in Windows, then you're making the same mistake that I first made. Ext2 and Ext3 partitions are Linux partitions, so windows doesn't see them. If you partitioned using Amon_RA's recovery, make sure you also converted from Ext2 to Ext3. Also, make sure you did NOT convert to Ext4--Zanfur's OC Kernel does not currently support Ext4, so this won't work on any of the Eris ROMs. Hope this helps!
Some ROMS seem to require ext2 and some require ext3 apparently. Is it possible to create a softlink so the phone would see both ext2 and ext3 or is it even possible due to differences in the filesystem structure? I'm thinking along the lines of using something like "ln -s"...

Use recovery 1.7 cyanogen version to make a ext2 partition then upgrade it from ext2 to ext3 to ext4. Mount your sd card and back it up before wiping it.
1 Install recovery 1.7 cyanogen
2 Boot into recovery
3 select patition sd card option
4 select partition sd
5 choose 0 for swap 1 to 2 gigs for ext2 and the rest will be fat32.
5 once that is done go back into patition sd card options and select ext2 to ext3 then after thats done select ext3 to ext4.

Cyanogen did not write this recovery tool; Amon_RA created a CM-based theme for it as it was heavily requested. He also added in support for Soyars' Apps2SD implementation (what you are giving a how-to for).
You actually do not need to change ext types for this to work. For testing purposes, I left it as the stock ext partition type created by 1.7 and apps2sd works beautifully.

So that didn't seem to work.
I tried without the updating of ext3 and ext4 and no dice.
I finally SEEMED to have gotten it to work. I did the partition of:
SWAP 0
EXT2 2048
REMAINDER
Anyways, I did this WITHOUT the ext3 and ext4 updates. When I went into the OS, the App2SD is enabled and the SD card mounts fine.
Hopefully this will continue to work. Any1 know what the problems are without updating to ext4?

Do you have a linux distro handy?
if so, you can use Gparted to create the partitions. You might need a microSD adapter though, as it seems to have trouble finding the mount point if it is in the phone.

The question: can I transition from DT a2sd to S2e without pulling back/reinstalling my apps that are on the ext3 partition? I don't have enough memory to pull them back from the ext3, so will I need to backup and then restore them via Ti, or will S2E find what's already there?

Its recommended that you remove a2sd scripts before using S2E. But the only way to find out if it will interfere is to try it. Your safest bet is to just back up all your apps with Titanium, uninstall all your apps (or atleast enough of them), turn off DT (or just reflash your rom), install S2E, check applications box in S2E, and then reboot your phone. Then restore your Titanium Backup with Data.
OK, that's about what I figured would be the case and it's just a bit of extra time.

yea but the great part is that, unlike DT, s2e will persist through flashing a new rom (with the exception of a factory reset).
What kind of results did you get with this? I have a ext4 partition, and I am looking to migrate to s2e, and I do not have room to move all the apps back to internal storage..

Be forewarned, I could not get s2e to work with an ext4 partition. BUT, if I formatted to ext3 and then used s2e to mount the ext3 as ext4 the partition shows up as ext4. Even when I put the sd into my Ubuntu laptop. It just lacks the journaling feature.
What you could try if the ext4 doesn't work is copying the contents if your ext to your computer, reformat to ext3, put the copy back onto the ext and then use s2e to mount as ext4.

Damnit.. My company required encryption of the data on my Nexus S when I was testing ICS Beta with Email / Exchange.
Went ahead and encrypted the device.
Then, I wanted to install ICS Combo Beta 11, so I formatted /system /data /boot and tried to install from /sdcard/*.zip.
No luck.
Clockworkmod recovery cannot mount /sdcard anymore.
Wanted to try and format it, but the clockworkmod tries to mount it first, before formatting
HELP!
I'm stuck with only recovery now and no way to get the update package installed

You should be able to use fastboot to load the rom on your device. I haven't tried it this way before but it should work:

The SDCard not being able to be mounted has been covered a few times but I can't recall the proper fix by heart - search around and you'll definitely get some results that can help you with that.

This was a real scare.. I couldn't mount or format from clockworkmodrecovery. All I had was the adb shell and the builtin /sbin commands.
LUCKILY I found this article;

It didn't exactly match what I was experiencing, but the key was the parted program.
Using it, I was able to reformat my media (partition 3) and am now able to repush things to it.

So some lessons learned;
DON'T try to partition your SDCARD from clockworkmod or Windows or Mac. The USB storage presented to your computer is a single partiton from you mmcblk0 sd storage. If you partition it, you've got a partition inside a partition which will only make sense to your windows/mac system. Inside of Android, the partition is essentially corrupted and it won't mount.
Formatting from Windows only makes it appear to be working.. in reality you've created a second partition and it's corrupted from the Android point of view.
parted is the only way to fix it. from parted do mkfs type fat32 partiton 3 (media) that will reformat the partition correctly and give you access from Android and external USB hosts.

People have been able to format the SD as ext4 on a desktop using Ubuntu for example. I don't understand how that is different to mkfs.ext4 vs mkfs.vfat. I mean why am I confined to formatting on the phone itself? I'm really confused now.
On a side note. What you experienced is totally expected if you think about it carefully. It's like you have just lost the key to open your SD content by wiping the phone, of course it can no longer be mounted. But I'm not sure why it cannot be simply formatted in CWM.

Yeah, I had a similar situation a few weeks after I got my beloved NS when I tried Whispercore. The hole NS got encrypted and formatting the system partition in CWM didn't work, but what I read it was luckily due to a problem with the CWM version. Flashing a newer Version of CWM solved the problem. First I was dying!
So, when I encrypted with ICS and got this problem I calmed down much faster

My problem was I used the Windows fdisk partitioning utility to repartition my /sdcard partition. That was part of the problem. I did also read how some people were repartitioning the /sdcard partition, which is kind of weird. I can understand why someone might want to reformat it as an ext4 filesystem, but why would you want to partition a partition?
The /sdcard partition is actually the third partition on your mmcblk0 device. If you partition it, most utilities will fail to recognize it as a valid media device anymore, because they expect to be able to read the filesystem data structures when they mount it. These won't exist if a partition table is sitting at the beginning of the blocks.
I couldn't reformat from within CWM because it first tries to mount the partition. if it fails to mount, CWM won't reformat it. Only way to reformat it was with parted, unless you have a working system installation.
Last night I was also able to reformat it from within ICS. Had to do a full factory-wipe from within ICS, then it indicated the sdcard was no longer valid and asked me if I wanted to reformat it. Once I said yes, all was back to normal.

I'm trying to understand the most convenient way to make a copy of an SD card that has an EXT partition on it. This would need to be done anytime you upgrade from a smaller to a larger SD card, so I have to believe a number of people on these forums have dealt with it.
This is what I'm expecting to be done... please confirm if it's correct:
Make a nandroid backup, stored on the old SD card
Copy the nandroid backup to PC
Install new SD card and partition it accordingly
Copy nandroid backup to new SD card
Perform a nandroid restore
At this point, everything should be as it was, with the larger SD card. Correct? I've also noticed an alternative that would probably work, that being a partition management program like EaseUS.
My 32Gb SD card arrived so I downloaded Mini-Partition to set it up. Then when I went to copy the EXT3 partition from my 8Gb SD card, the option wasn't possible. Apparently I can't copy it into a larger EXT3 space, only unallocated space. So, I removed the target EXT3 partition, making it unallocated, and then tried to copy and resize. Apparently the tool won't let you resize an existing EXT3 partition. I installed EaseUS to try this operation and encountered the same thing.
From what I've just experienced, I'm now thinking that if I try to restore a nandroid backup onto my new card, it will override the newly minted EXT3 partition with the smaller EXT3 partition.
Searching around turned up a lot of Ubuntu/Linux information, requiring one to boot up in those operating systems and execute a long series of commands to enlarge the EXT3 partition. I'd rather not go down that path right now. Is there some easier way of doing this? If not... then I'm thinking what I need to do is move as many apps having data I need to my phone, then just opt not to restore the EXT3 partition and go back to manually move apps to the EXT3 partition again.

Presently running CM7.2, which supports EXT3. I'm just not getting how I can manage the EXT3 partition. When I switch to a new ROM and wipe the system, then all apps installed on the EXT3 partition would be deleted, correct?
So, what this ultimately means is that each and every time I switch ROMs, the EXT3 partition must be wiped and applications manually moved back there. It's annoying, but I haven't found any other way around this.

I have long time unused HTC HD2.
With Android (NexusHD2-KitKat-CM11.0_V4.5.zip is the file which I found in backup, so I assume this is what I install - sorry, it was long time ago.
Some time ago I need microSD card so I took it from my HD2, I did backup only windows FAT32 partition.
Now, I need to run my HD2 , I have install microSD 2 GB (800 MB FAT32 + 1GB Ext4) but is not working correctly.
It starting I can install Teamviewer, but when I need to install HTC module for teamviewer it's telling me that is not enough storage.
Quite often is restarting and after restart not keeping any settings (wi-fi) app installed (teamviewer) it's resetting each time to factory settings.
In Settings - Storage shows 'Total space' - Available 0.00 bytes

Can anybody advise me which is the easiest way to make my HD2 working properly? Means have enough memory to do anything.
The purpose of restoring my HD2 is working as a router, tethering machine. I need to share internet from mobile network for smart TV and Tablet over wi-fi. It will be unattended so I need remote control access (team viewer host).
I'm open for a suggestion of changing the ROM if there is something reasonable easy and described (as I'm not big ROM expert). i've seen a ROM list for HD2, is too long.

it sounds like you are missing a data partition, perhaps the sdcard you used before had an ext4 partition which your new one does not have. Use recovery, in nand, to create an ext4 partition, then boot into rom, might work.

And later in recovery, I have setup 1024MB and swap = 0 M.
It didn't help.
Should I mount it or so?

I have a look in log in nand - recovery and it's says that my second partition is Ext3 not Ext4.
And there is no way to change it.
What is your nand recovery? version?

It says on the top bar screen 'CWM-based on Recovery v5.0.2.6' but was install with ROM so should be fine.
try using the recovery to format the ext partition to ext2 or 3 then use it again to ext4

As I said, I have created and formatted partitions under windows FAT32 & Ext4 and then under recovery, there was no choice of the file system file, I can only choose the size. And it was formatted to Ext3 - log saying.
