anybody try this PocketCM keyboard for htc touch??

I have to say that this is a killer app for the Touch.
If you have a Touch you really must install this software. It's awesome.

It's a lovely, good-looking piece of software, but ultimately just doesn't work for me.
I've tried keyboards on touch-screen devices but ultimately none really work for me - I think my fingers and thumbs are just too big! Also, if you are typing fast you don't really have time to check each letter before releasing your fingers from the keyboard, so the visual feedback is rendered pointless. Typing capital letters is a faff too.
The best I've found has been phonepad. Perhaps a combination of the two might be worthwhile, e.g. a phonepad with visual feedback?

Best SIP outside of phonepad!
Contact Manager is also a must for a touch user!

any1 tried to disable the dictionary? seems like its very troublesome for me as i cant type shortform.
EDIT - To disable the dictionary its in the setting -> input -> option

Only became very usable for me with "Enable Suggention" NOT selected.

The whole point of this keyboard is that you don't have to make sure you touched the right key...you just type the word, and if you typed "rgw", it'll change it to "the" because it looks at blocks of letters, almost like t9...you type and in the end the right word should be there...
it's head and shoulders above the kb that comes with any wm phones...

Whilst I agree that this is a good idea, it just doesn't work for me, I'm afraid. I think that I, and perhaps others, tend to type at least one or two non-dictionary words per text/message. I also use capital letters and punctuation a lot and, as I mentioned, I have very big hands!
I'm not saying it's no good, in fact as I mentioned I think that it's a brilliant program, I recommend everybody tries it out and reaches their own conclusions too.
It would be good if there were a way to auto-select the input (SIP) method on a per-program basis, e.g. so that PocketCMKeyboard came up automatically for text messages, but then it was the standard keyboard for other text entry. Perhaps this can already be done, I don't know.

Have you tried Tengo Thumb?

totally off subject but it's "Touch Settings", the program to customise all the programs on the cube/mediahub and weather settings etc. I should change my sig though as it keeps popping up OT. !

I really like this keyboard, almost better than HTK. It would be nice if the period (.) were on the alpha keyboard an not the number keyboard.

It kind of is, just tap & hold the symbol key (lower LHS) and you get the . slide a little to the right & get the other most common punctuation marks.

You may want to try this skin...
I added the period and comma on the main text screen. This works very well for my Touch.

hey I recently bought an HTC touch and came across this excellent software*kudos to the one who programed it* I would like to ask for help in using this. I downloaded it through my touch directly then nstalled it on the phone memory and went to settings and input then selected PCM Keyboard and then ok but nothing happens I'm still stuck with the same old little keyboard help please thanks

Thanks a lot for this! This is exactly what I wanted in the PCM Keyboard! I was getting sick of opening the full screen PDAMedia Keyboard. I like to see what I type

Keyboards

I have had a good look around and search and tried and tried, but I can't find the keyboard I used to use. It's just like the standard HTC keyboard, except with numbers along the top row. If anyone could point it one out, I think it was in Hellonasty Mary rom?, I loved it, didn't keep having to hit the pesky "123" button when I needed numbers.
(like the one in the attachment, but the one I had and want was not coloured blue, it was just clear)

does anybody have the keyboard plug-in that lets you type like a regular number pad? the keyboard is really hard to type if you have fat fingers

with the keyboard you have now try this .. press the arrow to select SIP go to option and choose smal keys insted of large keys

Best Keyboard for the HD?

Hi I'm currently using PocketCM Keyboard which is better than the default but a bit frustrating when having to use !&- etc as you have to switch to numbers then to exclamations...
I was wondering if anyone have found a better keyboard (perhaps like the iphone with everything on the one screen) but still takes advantage of the screen size?

JetMouse, you know you can easily customise the layout of PocketCM Keyboard to suit your needs? It's as easy as editing a text file to control which symbols appear on which buttons. Since I did that it's easily become my favourite software on my Touch.

I use SPB Keyboard (the new one, version 4.0) with fullscreen mode. The non-fullscreen mode is pretty much iphone-like. Don't know if it's "better" - to my taste the stock one is just perfect in all respects except for lack of support for Russian, which I need. Unlike most other keyboards, it has arrows which compensate the absense of the dpad on the device.

Sure thing:
Connect your PocketPC to your computer so you can browse the contents of the device.
Browse to \Program Files\PCMKeyboard
Copy English.layout (or whichever one you're using) to your computer's desktop
Make a backup of the file, just in case
Open the live file with Notepad
You can see four lines labelled keyboard_layout_#=
Edit the characters in those lines to change the symbols on the keys in PocketCM Keyboard
Each of the four lines contains a complete template for the keyboard. Rows are separated by the \n (newline) combination
There are some shortcuts to create special-purpose keys:
\2 seems to be uppercase
\1 seems to be lowercase
\b is backspace
\M is the symbol/text toggle button
\N is the enter key
There is a way of including smilies or combinations of characters on single keys, but I can't remember how. I also can't remember how to edit the row of quick symbols you see if you hold down the '123#?' button
Once you've made your changes, save the file on your computer and copy it back over to the PocketPC.
You'll need to choose a different softinput thing and then go back to PCM Keyboard to see the changes.
Don't forget to save the file somewhere in case you upgrade to a newer version of PCM Keyboard.

My favourite keyboard is Tengo. Allows very fast and forgiving typing. You might like to try it. I hope it works on Touch HD cos I have not got one to try on yet.
They have a free version, a commercial regular version, and a commercial thumb version.

I just tested it, yes it is 100% compatible.
I love this keyboard, but I am trying to get it to run using the Dutch language. It is so blazing fast and accurate in English using the suretype layout, it's not even funny. I SWEAR I cannot type faster using a hardware keyboard, simply because of the fact that it is just as accurate, has big enough keys to type blind, and you don't actually have to depress a button so... works for me
Still stuck with the trial version though...
Only thing that I still gotta get used to is switching keyboards using a finger slide, I just keep pressing buttons instead of triggering the slide really cool function though as it saves button space and basically is just cool to show people

Got my own language it in it now, easy... Also really easy to switch languages... Just pull down the ABC key and pick one. This does reveal some non-skinned ugly winmo buttons though, even while the rest of the keyboard is Diamond skinned.

Completely Agree, it is very usefull, Fast and easy to use Keyboard

I would at least try the demo of this. I personally prefer TouchPal to a Blackberry hardware keyboard. I am serious. The seplling correction and word prediction is simply amazing. Completely altered my view of software keyboards.
BTW- I am 6' 2" and weigh 220 with BIG hands, and Have been happy with TouchPal since the first Touch.

Alternative Keyboards?

Are there GOOD alternative keyboards for the HD2 without the arrows to the right of the keyboard, I really hate them?

use SWYPE. I love that . . .

I have tried Various Keyboards and i keep going back to Swype. Once you use it for a bit i think you will agree it's probably the best Keyboard out right now.

I don't really like Swype, I much prefer to actually press and not drag. Thanks though but anymore suggestions?

Take a look at FingerKeyboard2, it's really a good one.

i've used fingerbeyboard2 for a while, the options and customisation of it is great, plus if you change fonts on your HD2 this keyboard font changes too..

i cannot get fingerkeyboard to install on my stock 1.66 hd2. receive error message after cab install to main memory "unzuccessful". any ideas?

fingerKeyboard isnt so good on HD2. It has some known bugs, also it is VERY slow on HD2.
If You are used to fast writing then You will have a lot of problems with it .
Thats why im actually on stock keyboard, it is not so bad in fact

True, but the original keyboard does not support enough languages. So, if you need some specific layout, you don't have many choices and FingerKeyboard does the job.

yep, right, but as i said, fingerKeybord is buggy on HD2, sad but true.
im using it only when i have to use CTRL + C, V, X, and so on
normally im using stock keyboard.

Thanks you answered my main question : why the hell did they remove ctrl, alt and other useful keys like Esc ?

Just installed fingerkeyboard 2.1 and works like a charm much less typos than original keyboard I must say, but it seems there's no option for full screen keyboard like Spb Keyboard or does it? Anyhow each one (HTC/Finger/Spb) has it's own benefit for different applications.

I like Swype and SlideIT (most dont like it at first but with practice, its by far faster as its becoming stock software for many phones like Omnia now etc).
Anyway if your a pressing vs sliding person, i prefer Touchpal. Works like a charm, many nice skins for it, very easy to type with, accurate blah blah. Ive tried many pressing keyboards and found this the best, v4.0 is for the HD2, not 3.5

Tweaking HTC Keyboard. Possible?

Anyone know if it's possible to tweak the qwerty keyboard? I'm coming over from a TP2 and I like the builtin KB that HTC provides, and it should be even nicer on the larger screen, but it's not as handy as it could be. There are extra, blank keys on the 2/2 Numeric pad and I'm wondering if it's possible to add some keys. For instance it would be very handy to have a space key in the numeric pads.

I just upgraded from a TYTN II and i do miss the physical keyboard and i'm not too crazy over the software keyboard mainly because i don't get the tactile feel of pressing the keys.
But have you tried the Swype ? Needs a little getting used to but i'm getting pretty good with Swype and i feel it's a lot faster than typing. Plus it looks pretty cool

Ther are other keyboards. Sorry, I don't recall their name. One was very customizable though. I tired two different ones, but they didn't play nice with predictive text.

I have Resco and I like it well enough, though the version I have doesn't seem to have been built for 800x480 so it doesn't use all of the screen real estate. Therefore the keys are too small.
I like the HTC QWERTY keyboard a lot. It just doesn't seem to be customizable and therefore one has to switch between the screens more than it might otherwise be necessary in order to get the keys you're after. All I really want to do is to be able to enter a space while on the numeric screen. Not move the cursor, but to add an actual space. And to swap a couple of the characters on the 1/2 screen with others on the ABC and 2/2 screens.
Other than that I think it's a great keyboard. The haptic for me provides enough feedback and the keys are plenty big enough. My Leo should be here today or tomorrow and then I can start trying different things. If it turns out Resco's current KB can be made larger then that would probably be just the ticket assuming the HTC KB cannot be customized. I'm not really interested in tryiing Swype, but thanks for the tip.

I would imagine there's an XML keymap somewhere that we could conceivably edit but I'm not sure, i'd like to know the answer as well.
