Call T-Mobile. They're overhauling a lot if their antannae to 3G within the next 3 months and may be hitting the ones near you. Outside of that there's nothing you can do short of cancelling your contract and switching carriers.

unlocked htc mytouch

i was just wondering if anyone had one...im thinking about getting one (i have ATT) and i know that it won't have 3g network....is it a huge difference or if it would be super slow
depends how much you use the internet... I have a blackberry 8900 and I hate using it for anything internet related because of the lack of 3g. which thats something to remember its not just websites, gps because its gotta load maps and apps that report back stuff like that
id suggest you just kill the 3g on your phone and use only the regular connection for a bit, if it doesn't bother you than your good
as pack said, my phone is not unlocked but I rarely use the 3G ... I bought it when I was on leave to NYC ... I didn't even thought about turning the 3G on, EDGE works fine for me, and I only check websites when I got Wi-Fi nearby ... and I am okay with the slow responses from FB n MySpace apps (once again, personal preference).
Look into getting a Rogers branded HTC Magic from Canada. They use the same 3G as AT&T, UMTS 850/1900. It should get 3G in the US. It also has 288MB of ram, the Mytouch only has 192MB of ram.

3g Speed Issue

Well 3g has always been slow about my area but T-Mobile just opened up HSPA+ in my town but I still get crappy speeds. I just ran a test right now with the speedtest.net app and the results are 0.23mbps d/l - 0.34mbps u/l with full bars of 3g. I think the best I have every seen was 0.96mbps d/l - 1.03 u/l.
I'm running CM6.1 nightly and was running froyo radio but changed to the new Korea radio to see if it helped but nothing. A while back while driving through Philly I hit 5.08mbps d/l - 2.88mbps u/l on the HSPA+ network.
I have played around with the build.prop and just can't find a setting for the speeds I "think" I should be getting. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about going back to OTA Froyo from Google to see if that helps.
It seems to me it depends on where I am at, at home I get decent speeds, at my dads which is like 5 miles away I barely get edge, St work speeds are ok, and my friends house I have crazy awesome speed...T-Mobile signal strength is some what lacking depending on your location...inside of a building I could get edge, but if I go outside I get full 3g...

Well I contacted T-Mobile an apparently I am on the "Smart Phone Data Plan" and should be on the "Android Data Plan". I didn't know there was a difference but they said there was and to give it 3 hours and it should help with the speeds. I personally doubt it since people are getting great speeds from Web2Go and t-zone plans.
They also suggested I upgrade (for free) my sim card to a 3G(UICC) SIM card. So I guess I am heading to T-Mobile after work to upgrade.
Again I doubt any of this will fix my issues as I have hit 5.08mbps in Philly with this sim card and data plan.
It's their network I go through the same thing where I live

Ok well the results after 3 hours of waiting.. I just did a speed test and got... 0.09mbps d/l and 0.47mbps u/l average after 4 tests. I'm pretty sure I get better speeds on EDGE. Needless to say I am heading up to T-Mobile after work to have a talk with them. This is crazy. Why pay for a data plan if it's going to be this slow.
Wow look at these blazing speeds..
Maybe this will help

I was having speed issues also, so I edited my build.prop and now my speed is blazing fast. I'm a happy camper. I'm using evil's NXsense 1.26, before that cyanogenmod 6.1 RC1, I was having serious market issues, I couldn't install or uninstall apps with cyanogen. I edited the build.prop and things improved but not much, I would have to keep canceling download, and then reboot to install. I edited build.prop on evil's NXsense, and did a couple of speed test, I didn't have to because I noticed improvement right away. I just wanted to see some numbers, so I took three, one indoors, outdoors and with wi-fi. It doesn't matter if I can get 4G speed I'm happy with what I got, I have copies if my edited build.prop, I'm not sure if I can post it without the devs consent, a respect thing, you know. It's like a real gray area, but if you want to try and see if it helps, PM me
Well with the new sim card and new rom IM getting 2.48mbps down now. Not sure why cm6.1 was so slow but it was.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
running CM6 nightly 247 I too had those negative download speeds and 32 meg uploads
Heh i'm damn happy my network is always blazing fast even indoors (see my signature)
I modified the build.prop though to have ro.ril.hsxpa=2 and ro.ril.gprsclass=12
Running radio 5.12
Beautiful thing being rooted!!!!

Nexus one and HSPDA on Rogers

First of all, hello everyone.
I am on Rogers with the Rogers/At&T version of the Nexus One.
I'm not getting HSPDA speeds on my phone.
The best speed I've got is about 1Mbps, which is not HSPDA speeds, or at least not as fast as it should be.
I live in Montreal,Quebec and Sherbrooke,Quebec. Which both cities are covered with hspa+ from Rogers.
rogers.com/web/content/wireless_network
when I go in settings, about phone,
Mobile Network Type : UMTS and HSPDA ( depending if it's on on or the other, i see it in my status bar 3G or H, cyanogen mod)
I know network speeds are slow when there is more people connected to the towers, and this is my point, I travel enough to understand when there is or not a lot of people using the tower. ( Sherbrooke is a relatively small city compared to Montreal)
I also get slightly better speeds in Sherbrooke.
What can explain these slow speeds
I am with Rogers in Vancouver, my download speed is 3.2 mbps at daytime and can up to 5 mbps at night. I heard that there are lots of nexus one from T mobile with diff band and can't receive the 3g network. Are you using the latest Korean Radio as well, its helps to boost the download speed as well!
I never got to 5 mbps.
maybe 3 mbps at night never more.
my radio is : 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
I live in the Okanagan in BC, and I can get about 2Mbps down/500Kbps up from Rogers on HSDPA with my N1. My wife, with her N1 can get in and around the same on Telus. As minniecafe mentioned, when I'm down in Vancouver I can clear the 3Mbps mark. It really all comes down to where you live and how crappy the Rogers equipment is there.
I get crappy speeds in the day in Ricmond Hill Ontario, but it picks up at night. my build.prop file is edited which helps. something you can search around for.
I'm on Rogers in Montreal and I also get 3 during the day and 5 during the night.
In Quebec City with Videotron, I get 5+mbps with my N1. Also, Videotron is much cheaper. Glad I switched from Rogers.
The reason you might be getting crappy speeds would be because Rogers' network is now oversaturated with all those iphone users. Doesn't help that Rogers' network is old technology now. They've been having random 3G outages like crazy over the past few months since the iphone 4 launched.

Agreed on the saturated by iphone users.

Montreal Speed test today Friday Nov. 19 5:00PM
Download 3.51Mbps
Upload 1.18 Mbps
CM 6.1.0RC1-N1
Radio 5.12.00.08
FRG83
I average anywhere from 1.5-3.5 Mbps down and 1-2.5 Mbps up.
Interestingly, my friends get about the same on various Android devices && newer BB's. However, friends on iPhone4 are averaging 5-6 Mbps down consistently. Since both Nexus One and iPhone 4 do HSDPA 7.2 Mbps on Rogers, I find it suspicious that iPhone4 is so much faster on their network :\ Unless there's something I don't know about the iPhone.

Vidéotron is great, cheaper and faster ^^
Since I got all of you Canadian+850/1900/2100 users here, let me ask you this:
Who in all of you upgraded his/her radio to something past 4.06.00.12_7? If so, which method did you use (Fastboot, Recov)? And finally, did it improve -anything-?
I'm asking because I'm afraid

I'm on 1700/2100 Mhz but heh, same thing.
My phone came stock with 5.08, I updated to 5.12 and I seem to get faster speeds and a bit better consistency...
You simply have to get a flashable zip file (check in cyanogen forums - download section for stable nexus one) and flash it in the recovery...that it, if you don't have an unlocked bootloader.
No matter the way, both are safe as long as you are using a decent recovery (newest clockwork or amon_ra) and as long as you VERIFY THE MD5 HASHES!
If you do that, the chances of bricking your phone are so small that we can completely ignore them

Thanks for the time you took to give me the blow-by-blow, but the specific info I need still eludes me: are the radio updates safe for 850/1900/2100 (AT&T) models? I'm afraid of -that-. After that, updating the radio itself is, to be honest, trivial.

I see, well I wish I could give you concrete proof that it works...but all I can say is that I have seen a few AT&T frequency Nexus Ones with newer radios...I hardly think they are dependent on the type you have since they come with the OS updates (for example, 4.06 came with Froyo)...these OS updates go on ANY Nexus One...Now these newer radios are korean, but I highly doubt it is any different...
I do understand your worry though as this is one of the only things that can brick a Nexus One...Hopefully someone can post actual facts...
I live around the Toronto downtown core, and I average around 2mbps - 3mbps.
However once at a friends house (who lives close to a tower) I managed to get 4.74mbps while on his SIM card (Bell) I was getting 5.32mbps.

I finally manned up and flashed radio_32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08.zip (yes, checked the MD5s, thoughroughly. even md5sum'd the file after adbpushing it to the phone. overkill).
for reference, these two flashed it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8780816&postcount=46
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8781438&postcount=47
And they're Rogers, so 850/1900. There

Great to hear. Can you report any enhancements? Better signal? Better speeds?

[Q] Anybody know what radio is best for Rogers HSPA network?

hey everybody. i live in southern MB Canada. as of march 31st Rogers hspa network is available in my area. i have a HTC HD2 running android 2.3 and my wife has a htc Mytouch 3g running android 2.2. but our reception hasnt improved while many other people in our town have seen an increase from 1 bar(or no reception) now to full bars reception. im wondering if anybody know a good radio that picks up the rogers network well? and if anybody has any other input that may help that would be great. thanks.
really want to be able to use my phone in my house. thanks.

No 4g...need help

My girlfriend has a mt4g, and since she got it about a year ago, never seen it go into 4g. Our area is completely 4g covered.
I went into phone settings via *#*#4636#*#* checking its connection. Seen 3g(Umts) H(hsdpa)[3.5g...] but never no matter what do I see it go to 4g(hspa).
Any suggestions? I got a new sim for it today since I've heard about that whole thing, and the phone is rooted. I'm out of ideas.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
H = HSDPA = 4G for you. The difference between HSDPA "3.5G" and "4G" is only the speed, the protocol is the same. Marketing...
HSPA is only a "friendly" name for HSDPA+HSUPA. It doesn't actually mean anything separate from both of those.
Weird...
My phone (nexus one) gets hsdpa though.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Nexus can't get more than 7.2Mbps HSDPA.
MT4G can do 14.4Mbps.
That's the "3.5G" and "4G" difference. For marketing.
Oh I get it. Weird, haha.
Really odd though, doing speed tests I pull around 5mb/s dl. MT4G pulls around 2-3.
thats more wierd, cuz i buy my MT4G to a friend. it comes whit the original firmware 2.2.1 mysence ( never rooted modded or anithing ) and it says 4G, now i rooted it and install cm7 ( from cyanogenmod ) and now it only stays in 3g and H(3.5) in stock rom it shows 3g H and 4g, so what is the diferense?
Any ROM for MT4G either shows 3G and H, or 3G and 4G. It will NEVER show 3G, H and 4G together, because it can't differentiate between HSDPA modes. You can return it back to stock and see for yourself.
These things have been explained to the bones about a year ago. Please run a quick search, if you want more info.
Fron my understanding those are just icons to be user friendly and give it the appeal that it is 4g, when in reality its just how much more speed the phone can actually handle over 3g. If I got that correct t. Males sense. Though I still don't get why my browsing is faster than the "4g".
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Like my n1 gets better speeds than mt4g.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes, you got it just right. And the speed will vary, depending on towers, exact position of the phones, the way you're holding them, etc etc. The top speed for MT4G that it can pull near the tower that can actually support that speed (and most of them most probably can't yet), is much higher. The actual speed will be just about the same most of the time.
it comfusing ubt ill have my dubt lol!
