it's annoying as hell. dial 611, and you have to play with that stupid interface before you can call them.
How do you turn off the launch of "quick assist" when calling 611?

Click to collapse
Use MS Voice command.... probably already installed on your phone.
Go to your settings tab then all settings... under the personal tab you should see "Voice Command"
Make sure it's enabled and check what you want to use it with.... ie contacts. once thats done go to notifications and select whatever option you want... probably announce notifications through bluetooth hands free if available or the 3rd option just below that.
Once that is checked when someone calls it will announce their names.
That said, back in the personal settings tab go to the button options and select one of the buttons you can configure to be voice command. That way when you press and hold say, your call button, you'll hear a ding and you can then tell it to call so and so in your contacts or play media, or speak next appointment etc.
Do any of the 'find my phone' apps respond to voice recognition? ie, shout a keyword and it will start ringing for example.
This question is not specific to the Nexus 6P, but that is the phone I carry.
I add 2 or 3 phone numbers (telemarketers) to my blocked call list every week. When a telemarketer calls, I (1) hang up, (2) go to the call log, (3) tap the call record to expand it, (4) tap "call details", then (5) select "block number." That's all very simple.
The issue is that now that I have dozens or hundreds of blocked numbers , when I miss a call, there's no easy way to see if the missed call was from a number on my blocked list. A missed call from a blocked number looks the same as a missed call from an un-blocked number (unless they're in my contact list).
I can scroll through (but not search or sort) my blocked call list by (1) opening phone app, (2) tapping "Settings" in the primary menu, then (3) tapping "Call Blocking." This presents a list of all of the numbers that I've ever blocked, but I can't search it and I can't sort it.
In a perfect world, the Call Log would somehow show a flag for missed calls from blocked numbers so that I don't have to search the list to see if the number is blocked. In an even more perfect world, a tap on that number would take me to a detail page showing all the times that number has called and been blocked. Finally, the blocked number list would be both searchable and sortable.
I think that most/all of this could be accomplished by a 3d party app - for which I'd gladly pay five bucks. There are lots of call blocking apps on the market, but they all appear to operate separately from the Android native call blocking function.
Q. - Any suggestions on how to make this better?
if you miss a call using stock dialer.app call blocking, and the number is on the block list, there is no record of it in your call log.
The whole point of blocking the call is so there is no trace of it.
>>> The whole point of blocking the call is so there is no trace of it.
I disagree. The whole point of blocking is not to be interrupted by a call from an unwanted caller. The point of a log is to make a record of incoming and outgoing call - and attempted call - activity.
then in that case you should use do not disturb.
call blocking is just that, blocking a call.
Agreed. Don't ring the phone, but I would like to see a log of the blocked calls, so I can tell how persistent a spammer is.
Is there an app would make my blocked / Reject phone number go away and not show up on my "always on" - "locked screen" - "Home screen pull-down" screens as a missed call. What is the point of blocking/rejecting a call if they keep showing up on my phone??? The only thing I want showing up on my "always on" & "locked" screens is text messages. I'm really hoping I don't have to root to do this. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Well, I know macrodroid app won't work. Just got this from them:
I assume you are talking about a notification. You can use the clear notification action if you want to clear it, but MacroDroid cannot stop your system or other apps from creating notifications.
Not sure what you mean, when I actively reject a call, there isn't any notification, for me it's gone for good and if I want to review it I have to take a look at the call list.
What settings did you use to do that then? On my S7 Edge, once I put a number on rejected list, if they call back again, the little icon still shows up on my "always on", "locked" & "Home pulldown" screens.
I figured this xda forum would have a solution? Guess not...
Have you tried True Caller? Free 3rd party app for blocking unwanted calls, you can blacklist number, you can also block all blocked number, and they maintain a list of spam callers you can automatically block. You can choose to have notifications or no notifications.
I will give it a try!
I emailed truecaller with some questions. Not so sure after seeing one of the reviews:
Please revert back to previous version Double notification for missed call it pathetic for me. I don't want truecaller to handle my call the way it is now. Please revert back to previous version. It was definitely a 5 star application. I don't like truecaller to give me missed call notification. All the android phone by default gives it. Duplicate notification is not at all desirable.
I use Blacklist, does what I need it to do. I don't even notice when the NRA calls me 10 times a day for donations anymore.
You don't get any missed calls notifications on your "always on" , "locked" , "home pulldown" screens?
folks - when on a phone call, can google maps offer beeps on an upcoming turn vs staying completely silent or talking over the phone call?
Thx
Anybody got an answer to this? Would highly appreciate it
Check "Google Maps app, go to Settings > Navigation > Play voice during voice calls"
