[Q] Hanging up with the side button? - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello, does any one knows a way to set up the side button(on the right side which turns off the screen)? Sometimes i forget to hang up and my battery drains like hell! But i never forget to press that button.. so if there is a way to configure it, it would be great?

Annoying Touch buttons
I think that the most DHD users have the same problem, touching the buttons at the bottom if you really dont want to.
So my question is if it would be possible to change the "Home" or the "Menu" button (pushing long) from "last used apps" to "turn on/off the touch keys???
that would be awsome
thx Dr.Pepper
Never been an issue for me, although i was anticipating problems with no hardware buttons its been fine...

Can't help but say, "you're holding it wrong!"
Seriously though I've never encountered this problem on either this phone or my N1 which has a smaller screen.
How exactly are you managing to press the buttons by mistake?
Regards.
iam the only one who has the problem that he accidently hits a touch key while using the phone or playing a game? every little contact triggers the keys. i.e. if i use the thumb to type a message, holding the phone in the right hand, i sometimes trigger the search key.
my idea is to make it harder to trigger these keys. as they are part of the touchscreen, it sould be possible to do anything that can be done with the touch sreen. my ideas:
1. double-touch; tapping the key 2 times (like a double-klick) triggers it once
2. sweep; i.e. you touch the home-button and sweep out of it, then release. can be even harder with sweeping out and back in.
3. circle-touch; making a little circle over the button triggers it.
other ideas welcome.
---------------------------------
2nd problem: easier unlocking;
i feel it sometimes tricky to unlock the pone, wich is done by pressing the powerbutton at the top of the phone and sweeping on the bottom of the screen. the phone is'nt very small (or i have small hands). if iam holding the phone at the bottom, i can nearly reach the whole touch area with my thumb, but to unlock, i need to use my 2nd hand or to juggle the phone so i can reach the power button with the right hand. with the G1, which had a menu button at the bottom, it was just double-pressing that button and the phone was unlocked. iam looking for a similar easy way to do it.
its just annoying to take the phone out of the pocket and use both handy or juggle around to unlock it...
i dont know it it wastes additional energy to have the touchscreen active, so it can be used to unlock the phone. so my ideas:
1. use the touchscreen to unlock; i.e. draw a pattern, press the bottom key in some order (home, back, menu to unlock)
2.1 use the volume keys. if the screen is disabled, they are used to change the audio volume (or is that only the case, if music is playing?) When holding the phone at the bottom with the right hand, the volume-down hey is easily reachable. so you can do volume-down (which activates the screen) and then slide on the screen like you would do if you have pressed the power button. pressing volume-down with deactivated screen does not change the volume, but pressing it twice does (i.e. 1st press unlocks the screen and 2nd press takes volume down).
2.2 press vol-up and vol-down at the same time to unlock the phone. if i do that the phone vibrates sometimes, no idea why.
3. use acceleromater (or a other sensor?) to unlock, i.e. shaking the phone in a special way (i.e. a circle), activates the screen, so you can unlock it by sliding on it. also full unlock by shaking a phone could be possible (also known as kung-fu-unlock )
other ideas also welcome.
Proximity sensor for unlock when taking it out of the pocket :-D. I have the same problem as you so a 'fix' would be nice
yeah, you take the phone out of the pocket and it unlocks and says "hello raw, how you are doing?".
but that would be nice. question is if constantly checking the prox sensor would drain the battery much. it needs to be checked every 3 seconds or so.

display wake up

Hi all,
i sometimes notice this problem on my omnia 7..
when the screen is turned off and i press the middle button the screen is not turning on.. i have to press it again or press the power button.. anyone experienced this problem?? any idea what can it caused?? I do not have any apps installed..
Thanks..
I have the same, sometimes the middle windows button will not wake the phone up.
When the middle button refuses to wake up the phone the camera button also refuses to wake up the phone and go straight to the camera app. I need to press the power button and then the camera button.
Annoying.
Do you guys know the term "it is a feature" when something in reality is a flaw - well in this case it really is a feature
If the sensors notice that the phone is in a complete dark surrounding it assumes the phone is in a pocket. Therefore it not wakes your screen up and also the camera button will not work. You can test this if you hold your thumb over the sensors next to the speaker strip.
Should your camerabutton not function in a bright setting, it is of course a different situation.
What an easy and clever answer..
Thank you very much.. next time i will think more.. OMNIA 7 rulezzz
Aaaah clever stuff!
Superb thanks

[Q] Broken Power Button

I Know there are more threads with a broken power button but nobody has given an answer to the problem. I have a HTC Touch HD. The power button (on the top left) won't work. Usually , when you press the power button, you can feel it click, and the screen turns on and off. But now, the button just goes down when i press it, and you dont feel it "clicking". So now I can't turn it on.
Does anyone know how I can get it on or fix it?
Thanks...
Update: ive opened my mobile, so now can i see whats beneath the power button. I don't have a clue what mechanism it should have (how the click works)... How it normally looks.. any suggestions?

Broken Power Button - Super Sensitive

Hi guys, I'll go direct to the problem.
My power button is broken. I can still use it to open/close the phone and lockscreen/wake the phone up. The problem is its very sensitive. One time it went bootloop - (not bricked) like the power button was held down (even if Im not touching it). Sometimes if I just brush my finger on top of it, or tap very very gently (without it clicking), my phone would restart. There are even times when it shuts down just by me putting it down on the table.
Is there anyway I can at least disable the power button while the phone is turned on? (I can use the home button to wake, and a widget to lock).
Or is there any quick and easy way to fix the button (without requiring any technical knowledge on electronics)?
Thank you very much to whoever can help.

Either pop the button out & fix it back in again or you will need to get it replaced
Looks like I'll just have to buy another phone.
I hear something moving inside when I shake the phone.

Black screen during phone call with speaker on

Guys I have a question... when I talk on the phone (with speakers on so I leave it on the table), the screen goes black... the problem is that every time I want to turn the screen back on I actually have to use the power button... the home button doesnt work, it's blacked (even if i have set always on display to be active all the time).
Is there a way to turn the screen back on without pressing the power button? Or have the home button active even if the screen goes black during a phone call? thank you!
Anyone?
Home button should be active at all times, you may need to press hard, blindly in the right place but it should work at least it works on mine, no problem.
You sure? Your home button works even when you talk with speakers on and the screen turns black?

Of course it works. Maybe it has some time out function, when it disables home button after certain time, I don't know since I never talk more than few min, but when screen goes blank, couple min later I press home button and it goes straight to talk screen bypassing lock. But I have location/BT set as secure, so it never locks up when I'm home, at work or in a car and have not test it much outside of those places. So if I had to make wild guess it's one of 3: 1. it has some time out 2. something with security lock 3. you're not pressing hard enough or wrong place, you really have to press hard, like you want bend screen a little.
My S6 did this also.
Some help?....
@tharghan
Same problem...
If anyone has a solution for this problem of black screen on speaker calls!?
