Just wondering since my contact pics are fuzzy,(taken with a 14mp cam cropped on phone sent thru email) how is everybody's else fairing
Yeah, they get down-sized. I don't know how small, but it sucks.

I personally would prefer fuzzy pictures as opposed to a longer delay when opening the contacts app. I am sure they do it to make it faster.
This is not a problem with the Vibrant.
It is something that is inherent to Android.
Agreed. This is something I've noticed across all the android phones I've played with. Even if you upload the contact pictures online they are cropped and get a fuzzy effect.

It's not even specific to Android, it's from Google Contacts. I upload most of my pics there, and they get jacked then.

Thanks for the feedback it's good to know I'm not alone
speaking of Contacts, how to
when viewing my contacts (part of the OS), I clicked on the Updates top menu and it gave suggested links for other contacts. I made the mistake of linking that persons contact page with the place they work at and now they can only be found under the company name contact. Researching as to how to undo this link has come up with nothing. WTF? You can not un-link a contact once its linked?
Open the contact and hit menu. There are all the link and default options

I hope this is not a noob question, but if it is I'm sorry and this is my first Android phone. Does anyone else notice that the contact pictures on the Evo are extremely grainy and compressed. I even changed one of the pictures manually, and it was fine initially but became highly compressed again. Is there a way to fix this please. Thanks

I noticed this too. The pictures it pulls from my facebook contacts look great, but the ones from any other contact doesn't.
I have not noticed. My pictures are just like I took them or uploaded them.
I usually don't edit contact pictures like I would with my photographs that I take.

It does the same for all my pictures, even the ones pulled from Facebook. Is there any setting that needs to be changed for it to straighten out cause its really annoying.

They were grainy for me at first, but after I sycned them to facebook, they looked great.
There was an issue with Exchange servers doing something to contact pictures. I don't use Exchange mail, so I haven't seen it.
The photos should be the same.
If you add a photo manually to a contact in Google, it should synch that photo to the phone as well.
I had this problem when I first synced Facebook with my contacts. The pictures were extremely blocky and low res.
Eventually it got better. Not sure how it happened, maybe a reboot or it finished syncing. No idea, glad it got there though.
Well lets hope mine eventually fixes itself..fingers crossed

I had the same problem, I was linked to Gmail for syncing and Google compresses the pics wile syncing them back to evo. I change the pics on evo it’s good for few seconds and then back to grainy sync from Google. Google is been working on a fix, they have been aware of this problem for some time.
I turned off contact sync option, now calendar syncs ok without fuzzy pics
I'm not going to go into great detail about this, (I can if you need me to), because I'm sure most people know what I mean, but is there a way to keep high quality contact pictures with Google contact sync left ON?
I was hoping with a combination of Froyo, and the new contacts system in gmail, the problem would be gone. No such luck.
Thanks guys.

sub'd for a hopeful solution as this bugs the **** out of me as well...especially because I keep a few contact widgets on my home screen
I was wondering the same thing. Thoughts?
same. bump!
It's not much of a fix really, but if you get the full screen contact app, you do have to manually select hi res images for it to work, but that hiquality image does because the contact pic as well (as a side effect I guess) I didn't want to go through my contacts and do all of that so i ended up removing it, but maybe that will get you what you want.
SyncMyPix has an option to pull high quality pics from your friend's facebook account. I think it is better quality than the normal facebook contacts sync.
On top of that, with the new Google search widget if you want it to recognize your contacts when you say them, for example "send text to Amy" you have to have contact sync turned on. So I want the functionality of the search, or the low res contact images that are just not ugly, but embarrassing. Why won't Google fix this?

Is there someway to get a bigger picture or something for the caller id?
Also when I used pro launcher to set up my contacts the pictures were so crappy looking (synced from faacebook pics) so I just ended up using the contact shortcut and placing all of my contacts on the screen.
Any work around to this?

There is currently no easy way to get bigger and better looking caller id photos. The reason is Google. When your contact pictures sync to your gmail account they get shrunk to 96x96 pixels. And so this is the maximum dimensions that Samsung uses for the caller id, as do most other companies besides HTC (their Sense UI shows an enlarged picture that is of better quality, but still not the sharpest looking).
What I have done temporarily is disabled contact syncing under my gmail account on the phone, and using SYNC MY PIX to provide high resolution pictures straight from Facebook.
Until the EPIC gets themeing capability so that a themer can replace the 96x96 image(s) that the phone uses, your caller id will still be the same size, but at least it'll be perfect quality
Thanks DigitalThug. The picture synching from facebook is crappy. I have tried overwriting the pics manually, but I guess this is only successful if you have sync disabled. I wish I could choose which pic I want, either facebook synced pic or the pic on the phone. I am using Sync My Pix and the quality looks like it is a bit better.
This is a qualm I've had with android for quite a while. Thanks for helping me with that. Does the vibrant have a themer?

First of all, sry if this is posted somwhere but doing severall search and nothing come out.
Sync Facebook to contacts, and Galaxy is doing some weird things to the contact pictures picked up from Facebook, shrinking or expanding to fit the total resolution available.
Leaving ppl with a really strange look, either to thin or to large.
Even in Samsung app Friends Now is happening the same. Or if you had a shortcut of a contact to UI.
My question, is it possible to prevent SGS to Stretch/Skew this pictures...?
Thanks in advance.
Strange to see close to 100 views and no one claiming to have same issue.
If someone as same problem pls reply.
Brgds
It fits the images to a certain box. That is how it works.
Dont know anything more helpful. Anoying yes but I havent really thought about it
Same here, images get stretched to fit the box. Annoying indeed. One fix would be creating a local contact and linking it to the facebook contact, then download a picture from the facebook site and add it to the local contact. That way the local picture will show up. I wish the phone did this automatically though.
Also, how come there's no "set as contact picture" option in the browser or in Facebook S? Cmon, it's a must feature!
OK, this is really a general android question but I'm asking it here because other solutions I've seen on the web seem to be for specific phones/versions of Android.
I've just recently bought the G2 after spending almost three years with an iPhone and I absolutely love it. But I was stunned to find out that one of the old issues that drove me crazy about Android still exists. The blurry contact images when someone calls. I've googled the net and read a lot about it and I can't seem to come up with a fix that won't be too time consuming. I've found apps that will sync hi-res photos from facebook but they stop there. I have a lot of work contacts that are pulled from LinkedIN and I don't want to ignore them. I'm also not interested in getting pictures of everyone I know and manually linking them with some third party app that will overwrite the pixelated 96x96 google profile picture. So....what are you more experienced Android users doing for this?
i had all my contacts backed up in google and i am coming from s4, even pictures taken with s4 and set as contacts come blurry, but worked fine on s4, the only think i tired which worked from me is to edit the contact by selecting the same picture if you have it on your phone and they come out fine in g2 contacts, odd
