What just happened ? - HD2 General

My HD2 has worked perfect so far using custom roms and official roms.
Suddenly my touch screen stopped working.
I was a bit blown away with the fact my hd2 had problems. As an IT-specialist I thought I could fix it myself.
Problems became worse after switching roms removing hspl and formatting with task29.
For the second time that week I was blown away nothing worked.
I cracked my head and my conclusion brings me to a hardware problem.
My next step was advise google. I was in shock how many people where experiencing this problem.
They also came to the conclusion: A hardware problem.
The strange thing was sometimes it worked and sometimes it stopped completly for 2 days.
My next step was a call to HTC in Holland.
I thought i would get an explination why my phone wouldn't work anymore and why more people are experiencing this problem.
I really wanted to know if it was a production failure or something.
The guy just ignored my questions told me a 10 minute disclaimer about flashing illegal roms and if repair would be free.
Before I knew the guy closed the conversation and the next morning someone was at my door to pick up my phone for repairs.
Repair will take 2 weeks, i found this out after calling again to the same helpdesk.
I asked the same questions and still they avoid my questions and don't give normal awnser.
I'm really disappointed with this kind of service htc gave me.
I would like to use this topic to find out how many people are experiencing the same problem as me, and how lang their repairs took ?
I think 2 weeks is a very long period to check if everything is stock and replace the phone's defect.

Screen Alignment Problem - Help

Ok, here's the story.
Last year, I had a friend of mine to buy for me an Imate Jasjar, it worked fine for a few weeks till that screen alignment problem kicked in. It was from dubai so I had her return it to the seller, they "repaired" it. Worked fine for 2 days then again, the screen alignment problem kicked in. I asked it to be replaced and they said they wouldn't.
Being desperate, I tried the card solution and even the screw fix, none worked... if it did, the fix would last for a hour or so. At the end of the rope I sold the unit.
Now, i got myself an HTC Tytn. Worked for a weeks and then I got the same problem. Help please, anyone?
I guess try the card thing again... ?
Go to the wiki and theres a table with serial numbers and those devices that have experienced the SA issue. see if yours is one of them, if so try to send it in for a replacement.
alingment
hi just wondering as i am newbie what do you meant by refering to wiki. as i got the same problem with my O2 Trion.
Old problem here
This is old and very polemic subject.
Some people said it´s only a hardware problem, others say software.
My case, I used to upgrade my Tytn to the last ROM available , after 2-3 weeks SA comes again...
I tiered of HTC support at all. Let´s wait for the iPhone...

Joke right?!
Even if HTC employed people to come round my house to perform daily acts of physical abuse and force me into un-natural acts with farm animals, I still wouldn't swop for an iphone. In fact the more I think about it those un-natural acts become rather appealing when I think about the "all mouth and no trousers" iphone.

bricked hd2 experience warranty with HTC

so my HD2 is bricked flashed a wrong rom with no response what so ever, cant even get it to boot loader, sent it back to HTC for repair, the phone has no physical or water damage, does anyone here have any experience with them? how did it end up? did it cost you anything?
thx for the advice in advance
I have no personal experience, but i can tell you from 8 months reading here that loads of people who flashed the wrong radio (its the radio that does the damage) have exchanged them, though most of those reports were people returning it to T Mo, not HTC. The phoen wont power on, so they cant see hspl.
I am not located in the states, thats why I have no warranty with TMO and have to go through HTC
HTC is easy to deal with
I had a similar experience as you but I flashed a ROM with no issues then was trying different Android builds and when I found one that seemed stable. I made the mistake of going to bed and putting the phone on charge while in Android. Long story short I woke up the next morning to a dead phone. Master rest would make it vibrate for a second then nothing else. After a few tries It got to the point that it would do nothing at all. I called HTC told them the problem and they told me to ship them the phone at my expense. 7 calendar days later they sent me a new phone with no charge to me. Hope this helps and good luck.

[REPAIR]HD2 random rebooting

Ok, i've given up.
My HD2 is driving me nuts, i've been taking it for granted for a long time, but i've decided to send my HD2 for repairs.
Maybe some users can identify themselfs in my symptoms and perhaps go for a repair as well. I'll try to keep you guys up to date on this situation.
Status:
18/10 - Received my repair ticket. Scheduled pickup tomorrow between 08:00 and 10:00 GMT +1.
19/10 - Phone got picked up by courier service, 8.30AM in the morning.
20/10 till 25/10 - No change in status and/or picked up!
26/10 - Decided to call after a prolonged status update. Summary of conversation: "Yes, everything is fine. No the status hasn't been changed, but you should receive your phone back in about a total of 2 weeks, so somewhere next week i guess."
27-10 till 2/11 -- No change in status and message.
3-11 - Received a package back with my repaired phone! Results: Boardswap, phone shutdown while diagnosing at the repair center. They even replaced my camera lens!
Total repair time due: 15 days
The following below describes the problems that occur (allot!), perhaps you can identify yourself in this as well.
Issie:
- Phone restarts (randomly) and holds at the HTC boot logo when back(bottom)cover feels warm-to-hot.
- Phone reboots when back(bottom)cover is warm, but not hot enough to hang at HTC boot logo, but soon after booting to Windows mobile, the device may reboot again.
Happens when:
- Browsing Internet (3G/HSDPA)
- Listening to Music (through SD card)
- Playing a game
- Having a (long) phone call the device
(temporarily) fix for issue:
1. Do a ‘Battery-Pull’ (extracting the battery) which shuts down the device.
2. Let it cool down for a couple of minutes until the back(bottom)part doesn’t feel warm enough anymore.
3. Re-insert battery, and restart phone.
4. If cooled down enough, the phone will restart correctly when powering up the device, until issue happens again, where step 1 needs to be done again.
The above mentioned issue don’t happen when the devise isn’t put under ‘load’ (I.e: use applications/browse(the web)/music etc). Putting the phone in sleep/standby or just sending a text message will not reboot the phone.
Tried the following official fixes:
- Hard Resetting the device > Issue remains.
- Updating to a new (official) ROM (RUU_Leo_HTC_NLD_1.48.404.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe )
> Issue remains, even after a Hard reset with above noted ROM.
- Formatting and/or removing the SD card from the Device > Issue remains.
Tried the XDA fixes:
- Different Radios: Any radio in the official HD2 Radio topic
- Many different Roms
- Formatted the SD card, tried a different one, and even None.
Concluding:
Seeing to have tried all options relating to a software issue, I think this might be a hardware issue.
Contact with HTC:
Having sent some messages over with HTC they sent me this last message:
[name]
(Benelux Support
(Tech)) Close Pending Hi Maseo, Thank you for letting me know. It really sounds like a hardware issue. Please let us know if you need anything else. Kind Regards, 2010/10/18 12:42:46
I have the exact same problem and tomorrow it is going to the repair center. Unfortunately I have a crack in the digitizer, I hope they don't use it as pretext to charge me extra!

My screen is still in mint condition, only thing that cracked if my camera-glass due to a bump against my table at home.. But more then that it's nothing.
I've noticed more people having the problem, so i thought maybe more people have my issues as well and could go for a repair after seeing this topic.

They will blame your problem on humidity in the device after the camera glass cracked. Did you change the camera-glass? I suggest you do that before you send it for repair otherwise you have to pay for the repairs as it does not fall under warranty (check on ebay for camera glass lens).
I think we're both in the same pickle:/
I am crossing my fingers they won't charge me.

I haven't. And a device breaking down from the camera end is highly unlikely.
It's impossible for me to replace it now as it's being picked up tomorrow morning. If they have to repair it, so be it. As long as it's not a outrageous high price..
You got experience in this, them blaming me in case of humidity, or you just guessing?

After speaking with their customer rep they pointed out to me that it is possible that the device malfunctions because of cracks leading to humidity and temperature problems. And that is not under warranty.
If your camera lens is cracked, it is easy for them to blame it on humidity due to the crack. This is a possible scenario, I can't predict but if we learned anything from repair under warranty, companies will to blame it on the customer before they fix it under warranty.
My advice to you is to cancel the pick up and reschedule another one later, go to ebay and buy a second hand glass lens and glue it yourself. It cost you less than 5$ to do that. Better than relying on their repair and end up paying hundreds of dollars. This way you eliminate the excuse of them blaming the defect on you.

Sounds plausible, but that wouldn't make sense in the way the device is manufactured. The CPU/GPU/Radio base i at the bottom. Any malfunctioning due to possible humidity in the camera would only lead to a malfunctioning camera, and that's not the case at this time.
Given, if i had more time i might have placed it, but i'm not in the occasion to do that right now.
I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed, im more afraid they'll go at you for a broken digitizer..

Double check this. Pull your battery and make sure that none of the pins are bent and touching each other. This has caused some issues, but not exactly the one you're describing but it can't hurt to check. If they are bent, straighten them out and see if the issue is resolved.

Thanks, but to no avail.
Those 3 pins were straight and sitting nice and snuggly against each other.
i also have a battery problem battery seems to be dying. under 30% phone becomes unstable. also sometimes doenst want to load or boot.
last 2 must be a connector problem (indeed it must be. put battery in without taking care to put contact points in the 3 little squares then the battery doesnt work)
ive mailed custumer service, it must be part of the warranty so i want a new battery

My problem has nothing to do with the battery at all.. don't hijack this topic for something un-related..
Day 2:
Phone is still enroute to HTC Service Center according to the Servicetracker..
how long does it take to deliver a phone i wonder..
My experience with HTC customer services
In the case of my HD2 (same symptoms):
Went back to Standard ROM/Radio/Bootloader Friday 17/09/10
Confirmed problem still existed on standard software 17/09/10
Called HTC customer services 18/09/10
Collection booked for Monday 20/09/10
Confirmation email received that phone had been received 21/09/10
Status changed from "Received your phone" to "Repairing your phone" 03/10/10
Status changed to "Awaiting despatch" (or something similar) 03/10/10
Received email confirmation phone was being shipped back to me 04/10/10
Received phone back with new IMEI (presume new motherboard) 05/10/10
All in all, I was without the phone for 2 weeks but I have no complaints about the service at all. A message telling me what they'd done to fix the problem would've been nice, but it's fixed and working perfectly so I'll forgive them for that.
After a week without my HD2, my spare phone was really annoying me due to it's lack of capability (HTC StrTrk) so I bought an Orange San Francisco, used it until my HD2 came back then sold it to someone I work with for what I paid for it.
Yeah, the fun thing is, is that the service center is almost figuratively around the corner, still they said it could take up to 2 weeks though.
I'm gonna get a Nokia 5800 as a lend-phone from a friend of mine.
I was looking into getting the Desire HD possibly this friday, but that's just too much as next to having the HD2, haha!
maseo im not trying to hijack anything!
maybe your sister if she looks nice.. so pls dont use that tone!
seems to be a battery issue with your phone so it seems with mine... it could also be a connector/motherboard problem so my post was on topic.
i submitted a problem to tech support and got a ticket they want me to call cust service to check my phone, i dont want to lose it for at least 2 weeks.
i want to get a new battery! so ill try to get that.
(also you reply a lot... do you want your posts to go up or something? )

Don't want to keep bumping it without no-reason, im just replying that's all ;-)
If it were a battery problem it would show other symptoms, ditto for the connector. Im more confident it's more hardware related, but to be precise what, i don't know.
A new battery is quite inexpensive, why don't you just get one? Saves you the hassle of getting (or trying to get) a new one through HTC.
Day 3 that my phone is underway, takes ages for a small trip by courier apparently ?

I am very disappointed with Google

To whomsoever it may concern. Yes that's what my state of mind is right now.
I will begin from the beginning then.
So heard on 4th October 2016 that google is launching it's Pixel phones. Couldn't have been more excited with the news as I am a big android fan boy. I had been using the Nexus 6p then, so the news of the Pixel phones was really pleasing to me.
I wait for the Pixels to get launched in India. 26th October 2016 is the date. I pre-order my Pixel XL very silver 128 GB before hand and receive the handset on 26th! Very happy!!
I haven't ever used a better phone than the Pixel XL. The smoothest android experience. Period.
So a month passes by. The phone does overheat from time to time but other than that it worked fine. My "rock solid" Pixel XL gets about 40 GB full. One fine day, while I was trying to open a PDF from my drive, the device freezes and reboots. Nothing to worry, sometime android does that, I think to myself. Same day, Gmail freezes and the phone reboots. Then the Camera freezes and it reboots. Now I started to see a pattern. Tried uninstalling apps one by one, to pin point the root cause. Found nothing. Tried Safe Mode. Still it would freeze and reboot. Finally, made my peace with a factory reset. The phone started behaving. I told myself that I must be some rogue app.
This cycle continues again when the phone reaches that 40 GB mark. It would freeze and reboot. Factory reset once again. It works fine.
So I start suspecting the phone internal memory. I fill up the around 80 GB with random videos and music. The restarts start happening like clockwork.
Come 6th December 2016, and I receive the 7.1.1 update. Everything goes smooth. The phone acts normal, for sometime at least. I call up Google Support on the 8th and the guy tells me to take my phone to the service center.
Moments after, I see my phone restarting. It boots up and it's sitting on my table. In about five minutes, while lying idle on the table, it reboots. And this time, it reboots to boot-loader. I try to start the phone with the power key and the volume keys by choosing the right option. It boots back to boot-loader. Doesn't load up android. So somehow my phone was soft bricked just sitting idle on the table.
I am not new to the fastboot mode and decide to flash the stock rom. However, there is this issue that i suddenly see. The fastboot screen on my phone says Baseband : N/A and my bootloader is locked! The only option I see to get android up and running is using stock recovery and sideloading the Stock ROM, which should have worked as Google Stock ROMS are signed and might have not need unlocked bootloader(I did my research). I select recovery, and surprise surprise! The phone says recovery can't be loaded, press any key to go back!!
So now my phone has no OS, no baseband, no recovery with a locked bootloader! And i don't know how it happened!
I take the phone to the service center today around 11 am. They can't make sense of what happened. They say they would keep the phone for sometime. I get a call from them around 4, which was like half an hour back. The guy tells me there is a power button issue and another hardware issue(which he doesn't specify) and tells me they will keep the phone for 2 days. And repair it!
WHAT!?! WHY THE HELL ARE YOU REPAIRING MY PHONE GOOGLE!?! It's a new phone, not even 2 months old! And it doesn't come cheap! For the price amount I would expect it to work flawlessly!! I ask the service guy for replacement unit, and he says it is more than 14 days old, and gives me all terms and conditions! The problems that I had with this phone couldn't have been foreseen!! Till the time the internal storage gets to about 30 percent full the restarting issue did not show itself.
I expect a replacement unit or a full refund. Because this is just not fair! Not really happy with you Google. Thanks!
P.S.: thanks for reading this.
TL;DR
Cliff notes?
I am not getting it! You mean that the phone you had, had no hardware problems? So if its software only, then why did you submit the phone at service centre at first place? And in case they are offering you a repair service, or a new phone, what is the problem with that? From the sound of it it does sound like a hardware problem anyway, repetitive problems are never software. In fact you should be rather thankful that they accepted the phone and offering you a free service, cause a lot of reviews say that HTC service centre is asking money for a phone which is just one month old and sorts like that.
And you probably are one unlucky fella where the phone might have come with a hardware problem, cause most seem happy with theirs anyway. I am not defending Pixel or its ridiculous price point anyway.
Honestly what's the difference? If they fix it and it's working again then it should be no different than a new unit. unless you've damaged the device and wanted to get a new one with no damage I don't understand.
So if you get a new car from a dealer and it has an issue you would demand a new car instead of letting them repair it? Sounds pretty dumb to me.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Guarantee this is caused by a bad memory chip. The only way to fix it is to replace the chip (which I highly doubt can be done at a service center) or the motherboard. I had a Nexus 4 that had the same issue. Eventually I could not even write a new system image at all.
At least demand a written explanation of what was done to correct the problem so if it continues after being repaired you can demand a new unit. If they are replacing the board you should be good to go.
So you are angry that Google are fixing the device for you at no charge to yourself? Things go wrong sometimes, sounds like Google are looking after you nicely.
You will get your phone back in the same condition you gave it to them - with the issues resolved.
Or
If they can't fix it, they will replace it.
What's the issue?

Pretty sure that the NAND chips are faulty. That is why after that chip gets written with data, phone starts to act up.
It may not be easy to replace just the faulty chip. Either they will replace the whole logic board or give you a new piece.

I wish i would have damaged the device just so that I would have something to blame this on.
And as for the car issue, you would want a new car, won't you? They will indeed repair it, however, a customer asking for a new car which works doesn't sound dumb to me.

The problem is when they eventually return the phone, it would be hard for me to understand if the problem persists until I get a PC in front of me and fill up the device. And the problem is pretty random too. Thanks for the reply though.
No problem. Been in similar shoes. You are not getting anything for free here.. It is one of the most expensive phones out there and you paid for a new device. Not one that has been reopened after being assembled. Check it carefully for scratches after getting it back.
I do not even like my car being worked on. Nothing is as perfect as when it comes from the factory.

At least it will be fixed. I purchased my Nexus 4 from a reseller so Google refused to warranty it even though it was completely sealed and new when purchased. Google hates resellers, which I understand the reason, but it is not a good policy to have.

It surely is not a good policy to have. And with the pixel devices the resellers were a part of the launch process. It was not like we had to wait for a few days after it was available online. It was almost the same time. I hope i get my device as soon as possible in working condition, because as I mentioned earlier, I love the phone. Also I have been using a prehistoric Nokia 1100 which I found in some corner of my house as I don't have any other back up device currently.
I'm just impressed that Google had a service center in Bangalore.
Yeah sucks. Let us know how it goes.

Network cutting out issue - two phones in a row

Hey all! Firstly, thanks in advance for any help or guidance. I have had two 6p's, and i love them. I don't even want any other phone.. But there is this issue where the network will cut from LTE down to no service and you cannot fix it without restarting the phone. It starts off slow, maybe once a day.. then it starts happening more and more, till its unusable. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried returning it to factory and everything. Google store replaced it once, but that was it, now they say they won't replace it again because it's outside the 3 month warranty :/\
small edit:
Just talked to Huawei tech support to try and get it replaced.. Long story short, they wont, but at the end of the call, the guy talked all quietly and told me "If you get another one of these, do not install the updates for it!" he then went on to telling me that it is only suppose to work in Europe right now and the phone is not capable of supporting it for the US. He didn't go into too much more detail other than that, but i found it kind of funny and odd...

the device was given to me as a replacement device. replacement devices are 90 days. Funny part is, huawei pulled up the warranty and the phone google sent me, had an expired manufactures warranty by the time i got it ha.
same exact issues? it would just show no service from LTE and wouldn't come back unless restarting eh? Ill try the guide you posted. thanks!

yes same issue it would show a little x.
but the replacements should not void the rest of your warranty is that a new thing i rmaed my nexus 6 like 6 times over the whole life of the warranty they never reset my 1 year warranty or told me once you get this rma you only have 90 day thats junk i would just tell them your original warranty is still valid if you need rma but reflash will probably fix it
Just wanted to give a small update--I tried going back to factory using the latest factory images found in the link/thread above. That did not work for me, I still had the same issues. So, following the warning from the huawei rep, I tried factory images from the last 6.0.1 version... This worked for me. I ran it for a day with no issues until I thought I would try running an updated 7.1.2 custom ROM (SAOSP) with the latest bootloader but keep the old 6.0.1 radio.... This has been working for a solid day so far. I hope this has been the fix and I hope it helps someone else. I have noticed no decrease in network strength compared to before the issues started .
Last note: it might be in my head, but I have noticed a decrease in phone temperature (physically) , since using the old radio.

Just flashed back to the old radio not not because of losing signal but the cooler running you mentioned. Playing videos in chrome makes it go nuclear hot, been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why hopefully this helps. Thanks
