I've been playing with the camera for a while not and haven't really found a difference between when I have it on auto focus and macro for close up pictures.
Has anyone else seen something different?
Also, is there any way to manually focus? I've noticed when taking pictures of things up very close that when I tap to focus, the item will get in focus for a second then the box will turn red.

Want to provide photo differences?
Mine won't focus on close (5 cm) objects without the macro on. I haven't tried the macro focus on distant objects.

I don't know about you guys but i think its stupid the way you take a picture when you move the camera it autofocusses on to a certain spot but when you press the button to take picture it doesn't try to focus first i think the camera should do that to get the best picture since when pressing this button you move the camera...
Also when taking a picture on screen it looks nice and bright but when taking the picture it is very dark how can this be helped?
Does anyone know what to do about it?
Thnx!
Hi,
Have you tried adjusting the settings, i.e. Brightness, Sharpness & ISO?
I found the camera takes a little adjusting to get the best out of it. As for the auto-focus isn't there an option for that? I no longer use the Stock HTC ROM so I cannot remember if it contained such a setting.
its because your meant to touch the area of the picture you want it to focus on, then take the picture.
i've been having a hard time taking self shots with girlfriend.
srsly.
Idk how you guys use it
please advice.

enable "self portrait" option in the camera menu and it will auto focus and auto shoot without a single button pressed.
Hi there, I've had my DHD for awhile now and have been looking for ways to capture my photos by just touching and holding on the screen but haven't had any luck on it. On my previous HTC devices I had no problem capturing photos by just touching and holding on the screen.
Is this because of a setting being turned of? or is it just the stock camera app that comes with android 2.2 that doesn't include the feature?
Thanks in advance.
Touching the screen sets the point of focus so I'm note sure how this would work?
Yeah that's what I also thought so it's most probably the camera app that doesn't let me do it. I also read I that you're able to change the volume buttons' functions on the dhd, that could also work..
I thought the vol buttons operated the zoom?
Talkiing of zoom, has anyone noticed that the camer seems zoomed in a little by default (not according to the zoom meter) making if very difficult to get the subject in the frame without going some distance away?
Thats because you're on 16/9 mode. Switch to 4/3 and you'll get a lot more in your frame

Hmmm, that answers the problem to an extent - except I seem to have two modes only:
4:3
5:3 (widescreen)
Where the hell did 5:3 come from? Surely this should be 16:9 as above?

Hi to all,
is working the auto-focus on camera ?? or it only me that i have this issue ?
autofocus works fine in camcorder, but i trying to take a photo of my bussines-card and i cant read my name.. number.. etc :/
happen to all ?
thank, and sorry for my english
I can't get the camera to focus either. I'm guessing the HD7 camera button is the kind that focuses when you press it lightly, and takes the picture when you press it completely.
So I'm thinking the only way to get it to focus is to map the function to a different key. But that might not be possible.
Just my thoughts...
I notices This issue too, but found an easy way to focus with camera. 2 Options :
- Having your phone pointing the object you want to take a picture of before launching the camera software -> focus ok 80%
Or
- Just switch to video camera (->Autofocus) then switch back to photo mode (still focused)
I hope it helps a bit

option 2 works fine thank a lot
Was just wondering...........
if anybody could impliment a manual focus on our x10 camera app
Or
can neone provide any alternative........
Manual Focus I mean controlling the focal length, not just triggering the autofocus. For example, on the Kaiser, dzo has mapped the up/down side-wheel to focus-farther/focus-nearer!
like a focus bar....
which can let us manually focus on any object....
may it b small or big....
Hoping anybody could look forward on it......
Just a thought.......
correct me if i wrong but i thing that is not possible at all
i would love to do that but unfortunately that has not been implemented on our phone yet (i don't think it will ever be)
I don't know if you can map the keys for focus but in the stock camera when you use touch capture in the capturing mode menu the phone will focus on the area you touch and take picture. It's some kind of manual focus ... .
I remember, that on K750i after installing some drivers you could enable manual focus when entering macro mode... Eh, if only it could be able on X10..
Hi there !
Maybe I am just retarded or totally blind (or both): But there's just two things missing about the Note 4's camera...
Focus indicator:
Just any smartphone has some means of signalizing "Hey, you may press the shutter button, picture is focused !" - Either by changing the color of the focus reticle or by using an acoustic signal.
Nothing of that with the Note 4. There's just that animated "split-image indicator" - but it's behaving just the same either if autofocus succeeded or not.
Manual mode:
Just everywhere I read statements like "I used Auto mode", or "I didn't use Auto mode".
Huh ? - I don't see anything else than Auto modes, didn't find anything like a Manual mode.
Am I missing something ?

To answer your question, auto mode means just grab your phone click camera apps and shut in auto mode without pressing any key features.
Manual mode means you need to set your camera settings the way your photo looks like or you want it.
sony phones use auto and manual mode.

I know, I know...
But our Note 4 just does not have any manual mode; there's always autofokus, there's always automatic exposure control. Sure, we can do some exposure compensation, use a touch focus or set the ISO value - but that's not a manual mode, it's still auto.
So I am just wondering whether there will be a real manual mode in the future. I'd greatly appreciate that as the camera is my favorite feature.
Any ideas about the missing focus indicator ?
There are third party apps that can lock the focus. The Stock camera app is meant to be fully automatic.

That's not what I meant. - There is just no INDICATION that the focus was set successfully.
Example: With most other devices, the focus reticle turns green or blue if the picture is "sharp", focus achieved.
With the Note 4, there's no indication if focusing was successful or not.

I see what you mean. I didn't even really notice it since photos on this phone are usually perfectly clear.
Now that I notice the focus indicator isn't obvious, it's going to annoy me [emoji3]

Actually, the stock camera app can lock the focus too. You'll just need tap and hold it for a few secs, it'll say the focus is locked.

I find that's very unreliable and often refocuses when the camera is moved.
I made a YouTube video of this problem (rather a conception default), comparing a S5 (no problem) and two Note 4.
Here it is : Samsung Galaxy Note 4 focusing problems (compared…*: http://youtu.be/4Y5Axxp_UMY

In Note 4, this is not a focus (only) lock, this is a focus AND exposure lock (focus/exposure).
That means you lock the exposure in the picture zone you want your exposure done.
The metering is not always based on the object you shoot.
Mine is having trouble locking focus PERIOD. I've tried tapping an object, and no luck. It sometimes takes 30 seconds OR a really good shaking of the phone to lock the focus.
