So I've been struggling to find ways to stop my phone from roaming even though I'm on my carrier towers and I'm within my zone, I'm throwing a suggestion out there and I'm hoping for some expert advice.
Could I use root explorer on my rooted x10a to find the file where the expectation is set for my network? Is there such thing?
I think that I'm way off track but it's an attempt and I'm really desperate.

Not sure, might want to ask the Dev forum instead. But saying this, I'm running on Fido and it doesn't show up as roaming. Maybe updating your phone might help?

What should I upgrade to? I'm already on 24.
How old is your sim card? I hear that older SIM cards are the issue. Mine is 6 years old.
My sim card is 4 years old, I do have an older one but it's not associated with a number anymore so can't test it for you.
Borrow a sim card from a fried to test? Or go down to your local Fido store and ask them if they have a sim you can test. If that works, getting a new sim card is pretty easy, but not free
Though I don't think it could be the sim card. What are your settings for the access point?

UPDATE:
I just put in my friend's Fido SIM and no roaming!! I guess I need to pick up a new SIM card after all
Glad that's solved

**updated: ok, that is fixed... inserted a sim card that was not activated by mistake.....
Now, my new question..... I did root my nexus one, then I rooted my galaxy tab...... is there any reason to root this just yet? Or wait for custom roms/overlcock/kernels! Thx!!
Also, unlike my desire hd... it seems to have the edge speeds automatically... I did not have to put in the apn settings? cool, but why is that?

Long story short, my friend drove down and bought 2... problem is, I fear they are not factory unlocked.... I put in my sim card and it says no sim installed, emergency calls only?
It also came with a tmobile sim card, which I thought was odd.... so if he drove 6 hours, round trip.... just to buy a locked phone? Are we screwed? heh

After using some CDMA crack tools, I get it running on ChinaTelecom network now.
The 3G data link works very well.
I think it can be used on other CDMA network provider also, such as sprint.
I was really hoping that Sprint was going to announce the XOOM at CITA
Hopefully Sprint users won't have to rely on hacks like this
Nevertheless, good work

Why not? And if so, you'll be probably be notified by moderator in a kind way
PS: by the way, your 3g provider doesn't require a sim card or you've somehow managed to use built-in sim card slot?

Provided you're not doing something such as changing the IMEI, please feel free to discuss details of this hack.
If you have any questions as to whether it's allowed, feel free to PM me the instructions before posting and I'll let you know.
great news!!!!
I am very happy to hear this. I had to leave the US and couldn't return my xoom before than. I am now in india, you think there is any chance of getting this hack to work on one the indian cdma networks?
Please keep this thread up and running alive and well!!!

HEY, Post the pack please,i am going to have one set, and i need to make it used in china, so would u help me ?
How can you use this on sprint for instance unless you do an imei hack which is illegal. The device has to be activated on a carrier that does data only like sprint but the device's imei will have to be changed for that to work. I'm not sure how overseas works but getting this working on sprint isn't happening.

not necessarily.. imei is just an identifier or ID for the phone.. if your imei isn't blacklisted, you can use it on any network.. doesn't matter if it's locked to a certain provider.. and you don't need to hack the imei to make your phone work with another network.. you just need an unlock code, unlocked phone or re-program the phone to make it work on another network.. phone (tablet)unlocking and imei hacking are two different things.. you only hack the imei if you wanna clone another phone or if the imei is blacklisted.. now those are illegal..

True but the op is confusing sprint with metro pcs. Metro will unlock an activate any cdma phone on its network so technically it could work that way but sprint doesn't offer those services so the op's methods will not work on sprint unless you clone a sprint imei

I don't know about Sprint but I took another CDMA provider's phone and altered it using the moto hack tools long ago (KRZR) and put it on Verizon. Never had to change the ESN/IMEI. Just modified the settings in the tool so it looked for Verizon's network, logged into My Verizon and put the ESN from behind the battery in the box... whalla, non-Verizon phone on their network.
OK, I wrote a guide about EvDO hacking at

Actually when I looked at the steps for doing this I realised it is so so far beyond my understanding level that I wouldnt even know where to start. So unfortunately I havent even attempted this. I would love to get this working but I have pretty much given up on the idea unless I find someone who knows how to do this in person....
Hey,
So I recently bought an unlocked T-Mobile HTC HD2 from the marketplace forum. However, it does not seem to be recognizing my Telus SIM card. It simply states "No SIM, Please insert SIM" even when my SIM is inserted.
I thought it may be because the phone was not unlocked as it was described to be, but then I tried a family members Rogers SIM, and it worked perfectly.
Any idea as to what's going on?
You might need to get a new sim card. Sometimes if you have a older sim card the HD2 will not recognize it.
Hm, that would be interesting, considering my SIM is less than a year old...

Hmmm that is curious then, maybe it is not the right type of sim card as there is different classes of sim card, or at least I think there is. you might want to take your HD2 to your local Telus store and tell them your problem and see if they think a new sim card will help or maybe have another suggestion for you.
So, I just tried my brothers Telus SIM, and it also did not work...
Is it possible that the phone is only unlocked for use on Rogers here in Canada?
I'll head to the Telus store tomorrow and see what they say..

It is unlikely that it is not unlocked to Telus as when a phone is sim unlocked it is suppose to be unlocked to all cell providers, but when you sim unlock a phone you have to have a sim card from another provider so maybe it just unlocked it to that carrier of the sim card you use to unlock the phone. I am not 100% sure about this as Io have never sim unlocked any of my phones but I have read plenty about doing it and people that have done it.

Yeah, that's sort of what I was thinking. Although it was my understanding that even though you have one SIM in it when it's unlocked, it should be SIM unlocked for other carriers as well. But maybe I'm mistaken.
Should I try unlocking it again using an online service, but this time make sure I've got my Telus SIM in it?

Well like I said I was under the impression once you sim unlock your phone it is unlocked to all carriers. But hey it couldn't hurt to buy a unlock code from one of the many services online that you can buy a code from, they are not expensive. But make sure you buy one from a reputable seller. Plus most of the online services have the code to you in very short order.
Hey guys bought my HD2 off craigslist and he claimed it to be GSM unlocked. This means i can use it overseas on those GSM carriers right? or on ATT here in the states? If so how can i tell it is truly unlocked? Thanks again great xda-developer members!
put a sim in it, any sim except the original networks sim. if it askks for an unlock code its locked.

Yeah there isn't that's why I questioned the fact of the sim card being from a cdma phone. But you were eight apparently you can put the card in too far lol. It found the card and just said mobile network unavailable. No passwords or anything. So I'm guessing it is unlocked?

I bought a Verizon unactivated HTC 10 recently, for my AT&T SIM card (AT&T is not selling HTC 10, and I have a Best Buy gift card, so I had to buy either Verizon or Sprint. Verizon is cheaper.)
The AT&T SIM card works just fine, but there's an annoying notification saying that "SIM card is not from Verizon..." that won't go away.
Other people online (using different phones) suggest disabling "activation manager", but no such app exists.
I already disabled & force stopped any Verizon/Amazon apps.
Does anyone know how to get rid of the notification?
sim unlocking service like this http://www.htcunlockingservice.com/htc-model-unlock-code/htc-10.htm ? there is other companies also. I have no experience with any.
Use any SIM on any GSM Network
With an unlocked HTC 10 you can change carriers without buying a new phone. This means you can take advantage of the best service package for your current needs. Then if your needs change, you can change providers any time.

I know. In the OP, I said that I had to buy a Verizon version because I had a Best Buy gift card. They don't sell unlocked
I understand. but because of that you may have to spend another $10 to get it "unlocked" for your sim card
Or try calling Verizon and see if they'll give you your SIM unlock code for free. They did it for me a few years back when I was preparing for some international travel, but I am also a long-standing customer with a good history on Verizon.

FYI, all of Verizon's postpaid LTE phones have been SIM unlocked since ~2012, including for GSM usage both in the US and internationally. No SIM unlock is needed for the Verizon-branded HTC 10 or any other modern Verizon postpaid LTE device.
It's totally normal for a Verizon ROM to state that an inserted SIM is not a Verizon SIM, it doesn't affect usage of that non-Verizon SIM.
