Not without knowing everything you've got installed.

To view the battery info you've obviously had to have the screen on to view it, so that doesn't really mean anything.

Can't post links, but look in the Extended battery thread in the Accessories subforum, I posted a way of doing this on page 7 I think.

Ok I will take a look, I think iv norrowed it down to 2 thing, juice defender or adw launcher, I unistalled both of them and in 3 half hrs iv dropped 4 % with a little use

Won't have been adw.. But could have been a faulty widget you had on there.. ?
Sent from my x10 using XDA and swype.

One thing you should check out is background syncing for mail etc. On the later (024 and 026) it's less of a drain on the battery but still eats through it pretty fast. On the older versions mine wouldn't even last a day with background syncing on since it never went to sleep.

This could be the problem:
If you use ADW and have a task manager installed to automated kill tasks every time the screen goes off, then the screen don´t turn off at all... (as far as i remember)
Try to eigther disable automated task-killing or set it to 1 or 2 hours instead...

Something is sucking the life out of my battery while its idle!

I dont understand whats goin on. While im using the phone the battery seems fine and drops maybe 2-3% while listening to 30 mins of music. However as soon the screen switches off the battery plumets, overnight it droped by 30%. What could be draining the battery this much?
So far this is what ive tried.
3g is off 24/7
wifi is off most of the time
Using Helix launcher
Using battery defender
use media scape every now and then
Timescape never used.
Brightness is halfway
Any tips ??

it says:
40% cell standby
35% phone idle
11% android system
6% display
4%media server
2% dolphin browser
not sure what it means though
Your big one is the cell. Put the phone into airplane mode unless you need to be on standby for calls.

i thought 3g being off would help, but it hasnt lol.
2-3% in half hour is 4-6% per hour and say 30% overnight at an estimate of 8hrs is 3.75% per hour.
That seems a little on the high side but if you are getting a day or so of battery life with reasonable use then I'd say you are probably getting roughly around the same as everyone else (a few exceptions here and there claiming much higher figures but i have no idea about this).
I dont think you are going to be able to do much to improve it short of turning off your radio completely or disabling data for certain periods usin juice defender or similar. Can't see the point in doing this though - kinda defeats the object of having a smart phone

Go onto my thread of how to maintain battery life and memory, while your phone is idle it has background apps running like gmail or google talk, i dont use timescape because of all the fancy screen motion it consumes way too much battery juice.
Got any more questions then just PM me

I actually have the TimeScape widget on my homescreen, BUT I have removed Facebook and Twitter and all the other internet-updated stuff, as I already have separate applications for them and hundreds of contacts I don't care so much about to see their statuses on my homescreen, and it doesn't suck my battery at all.
And it's nice to see the last missed call/message/picture taken at a glance!
Just go to Timescape, press Menu, Settings, and remove those from display settings for tiles and splines!

What if i use gmail?
Disabling google talk only will help?
GPS is what did it for me. After trying everything else I decided to try turning off the GPS antenna and yesterday was the first day I made it through with power to spare. Now my usage was a little less than usual yesterday so I'm still gonna be testing with GPS off for a few more days but so far so good, I think that did it for me!

Do you use google talk ? If you keep yourself logged in, this could be an issue.
Also, I do a restart after each recharge. I found this to help somehow..
The phone is alway trying to sync. So you should probably uncheck
setting -> mobile networks -> MMS & Data -> turn off
Turn sync app off
Also you mentioned you display brightness is at 50% turn it even lower you will notice a huge difference
ive tried most things people have mention with no real change, im goin to reduce the brightness this time.
If your indoors brightness @ 10-15% is more than enough..
Id suggest trying adw launcher and maybe cut out the animation effects in adw settings and also in phone settings under sound and display! Lookz more slicker than original and for me lasts more than a day.
If u use mediascape mainly for music id suggest tryin 'meridian'.. quicker to use, nice music control widget and drains less battery!
Hope it helpz!!

This will probably be the craziest suggestion you will read. Remove the Timescape and Mediascape shortcuts from all three home screens.
I actually get just under two days of moderate use; where before I only got 9hours.
Just try it!

I have fixed it I think. i had a look at my battery history in spare parts and found my phone spent 86% of its time running, 15 hours which means the phone never went to sleep. The only culprit I could think of was juice defender because it is on all the time. Now my battery went down only 3% over night.

Owners: How long does your battery last?

How long does your Galaxy S battery lasts when APN is enabled?
Bought mine at Singtel and my Galaxy S came with a G7 battery...
my battery lasts barely a day.. I need to turn off APN so it can last longer.
I also installed Task Panel X to kill the running apps which I think is using my Data (if I didn't turn of APN).
I'm curious about these 3 apps, they always runs again even if I killed them using Task Panel
1) SNS -> Phonebook & Facebook integration, even if I disabled the auto sync and turn off Sync in the Power Control Widget.
2) My Uploads -> I'm not uploading anything..
3) com.sec.android.app.samsungapps.una -> what is this?
4) Feeds and Updates -> even if I'm not using this widget.

Im guesing that is touch wizz
once I got all apps installed (coming over from G1) it get very bad, barely get through a full day, I can see it ticking down at times.....cant seem to track down the culprit apps though
I woke up at 6am this morning, got low batter warning at 10am this morning wtf! (first day of having the phone).
Hope it gets better....
Mine is still showing about 1/4 charged after 24 hours of light use.
Been useing it for a few days now and most off time got BT and wifi is on from time to time at home and work to speed things upp, and also every morning/night on my way to work play music. And use mail, sms and call for quite a bit every day, and on the night when i go to bed i got around 20-30% left. I take it off like 7 at the morning and i put it in charger at around 22-23 so should say battery is quite nice so far.
mine has great battery too.. but I don't have 3g yet
either way even if my internet is closed, many of the apps you mentioned still run out of nowhere.
Once we get root we'll be able to disable them via the application "Autostarts"

i listen to music.. search the web.. read pdf's.. calls.. gaming (tangram pro).. play with the interface..

i travel for 1.5 - 2 hours to work and i can manage to get the battery nearly half once i reach work after using the phone (no calls).
hopefully we will see high capacity battery for the phone like 3500mAh - 3800mAh..
oh yeah, someone said that you need to drain and charge it 5 times to get the battery working at 100% capacity.. not sure though.. and haven't tried.. but will try eventually.. hehehe

I have to say my battery life has been pretty good. I didnt charge the phone when I got it like some have said you should do, it arrived with 40% battery and lasted about 6 hours of constant use. The next day it lasted just shy of 24 hours and then with medium use im getting about 32 hours out of it. Today im on 71% after 12 hours of use. I expect I can get 2 full days out of it if I could leave the phone be for more than 5 minutes but that screen is too hard to resist. This is with push email always on, twitter updating every 15mins, stocks updating every 30mins and a live wallpaper. The screen does have the brightness turned all the way down though, I only bump it up when in direct sunlight.
About 50% longer then my Desire lasted with the same Apps.

Have a look at what your wifi is set for connecting and downloading emails.
Mine was set to connect every 5mins and I didn't get round to checking this feature for the first couple of days.
During that time my phone needed charging twice a day.
Ithen changed the timing from every 5mins to every 1hr (and nothing else), now instead of charging 2 x daily I get a whole days use with some to spare.....
When the machine lays idle wifi is the biggest battery eater.

My initial thoughts would be something to do with the fact, you are charging through USB, and not the mains power supply.
I have found USB, never fully charges my phones, and even when it says 100%, it very quickly drops below, after some use.
thanks for your thoughts guys.
My initial charge was on USB, and I was using it while charging (and unplugged it once or twice), maybe it's just got bad calibration or something as a result and thinks its running low when it isn't? dont know if this is likely or not.
My second charge was via the mains power, with a UK->Australia power adapter.
THen next one was USB
Then last night I charged it using my girlfriends iPhone power adapter (which is a USB -> mains, so I plugged my cable into it).
My exchange email is every 5 minutes, but I kind of want that to stay like that, I might try moving it if I can't think of anything else. Gmail I think can't do anything but push?
my wifi is connected most of hte day, at home and at work, though I just turned off the setting for alerting for new networks, maybe that will help?

Happened to me before.. even if I turned off "Sync" in the "Power Control Widget" or setting the phone on 2G Mode.
but I found a possible solution.
Try to un-check the "Background Data" under "Settings - Accounts and Sync". I noticed that the phone still uses data even if I killed all the tasks. Also make sure that you don't have any auto sync settings like "Feeds and Updates", Facebook, Tweeter, etc.. (if you don't need it)
*Android Market needs this "Background Data", it will ask you to turn it on. Just turn it off after..
Startup auditor doesn't require root and seems better then autostarts . I Just bought it. works great ....just an fyi

I too have the Sanny Galaxy S from Singtel but i flashed the euro fw to get rid of all the bloatware.
Could go into the location menu under settings and turn off the 'get position via wireless networks' option as i find that with that on, the wifi keeps turning itself on although the icon does not pop up in the task bar.
Battery lasts about a full day for me so far with moderate usage (about 1hour of music, 30mins web browsing, push Gmail and Hotmail + Exchange syncing every hour)

X10 battery lasts about 4 hours from 92% charge .. Wtf!!

Hey guys, , i apolagise in advanced if this topic is coverd, ive tryied to search but didnt find any related topics.....
Anyway...
I went to a 2 day festival took my x10 - WASTE OF TIME!!!!! couldnt even use it!!!!
Battery had died within first day, with hardly any use and 2nd day i had it charged for me up to 92%...
Checking the times every now and then on the 2nd day from 4pm onwards, i noticed by about 6pm my phone was on 50%, so i was curious about this as no wireless connectivity were turned on,
so at this time, i then "downloaded" from (GSM) not 3g. as coverage wasnt that good, advanced task killer.. i killed ALL my apps.. and carried on as normal, (only checking my phone for the time).. by 8pm i was getting messages saying 15% battery... and then 9pm my phone was dead :/ .......
No wifi, no internet surfing (apart from downloading advanced task killer) no bluetooth no gps..
Used my phone for a couple of text's and a couple of phone calls. NO WAY!!! should that have used all my battery up... Is their somthing i dont know about ??????
thanks
You gotta drain your battery s few times when you first get it. Also task killers don't really help with battery life. Imo they worsen it. Thirdly upgrade to the latest firmware

X10 battery issues has been covered big time
So has in call volume ...
I had the same first few days as you and was pretty dissapointed in the X10 but now things are much better. You do have to cycle the battery a couple of times and you'll see some improvement.
Most of the extra battery life really comes from using newer firmware. Since you didn't mention yours it's difficult to say if you are above or below 023. The 023 firmware seems to be the spot where most of the increased battery life came about.
Since I still wanted more I switched over to a 2600mAh battery from Cameron Sino. Now I have trouble killing the battery
There is something else that might be contributing to the problem... There are a number of apps and home screen widgets out there which are badly written and prevent the phone from sleeping, and therefore drain the battery like a *****... you should try a Factory Data Reset and then add your apps and widgets back in 1 or 2 per day until you have sussed what was causing it.. I had terrible trouble with Weather and Data widget killing my battery for a while..

Good point about the Widgets.
It would be nice, as a matter of fact, if there were a topic on Widgets that cause battery drain. I've read a few posts about specific widgets but have never seen an ongoing thread. I'm off to look for volunteers.
I seriously dont get these battery threads. I know this dosent help much, but I honestly get over 20 hours on a charge consistently, with WIFI and 3g on.
4h only?
Pretty much is a faulty battery/device.
I saw a movie with brightness at maximum using BT with wifi on at the same time and i still had 60%+ left.
Wow that sucks... I think your battery needs to be replaced.
Mine lasts about 4 DAYS
*#*#4636#*#*
Battery history and make sure the phone is sleeping when not in use.
If its showing 100% or close to 100% then an app or something is preventing your phone from properly sleeping.
!!
my personal experience on two batteries one 2 year old (from x1) and brand new one gave me 7 hours of intense usage wifi ( i don't use 3g ), texting gaming and in the mean time playing music after first update, before was maximum 5 hour , also need to mention i need to remove every task except what i'm working with task killer cause in my case every 2-3 hour for some odd reason i have at least 20 apps restarting again in the system which drain battery like hell , time scape and media scape use lots of battery life in auto connect mode so update it whenever u want them , gps is a drainer too i just use it when i'm desperate be careful some programs may automatically use gps without asking! also should say compare to x1 the speed of the lock is at least 10 times faster and not i can get it indoor near the window as well (its cool) !!!! hope energy roms come here as well cause they will blow your mind!
Just update to the latest firmware version and your battery life will be just fine.
If not you coul'd update your phone, root it, install setcpu, and get rid of Timescape & Mediascape.

No need to calibrate imo. Can last 2+ days for me when I don't abuse the wifi and games.
First feedback.....no noticable difference seen.....What do seem to help is to charge you phone longer even after green light indicates that battery is full.....For me than takes longer to go from 100 to 99.

How do you do this? I'm doing everything, I underclock my phone down to 160-245 Mhz, I turn on my wifi only when I have to, I keep my phone in airplane mode permanently, I constantly run on display turned down to max. And yet I've yet got to witness my phone going over 18h uptime. Do you run a custom ROM or something?

I find the same thing, and have even been thinking of returning it because it can't last longer than 24hrs. I have even restored to stock and hard reset, so no apps added or anything, BT/WIFI off and the battery life still sucks.

Yes I've tried openfire rom and wildpuzzle rom. Battery lasts as I have stated. I also use setcpu to set up profiles when phone screen is off to help it a little
Would also like to add that on the stock rom, the battery lasts long as well but custom rom is better
My phone is a stock. But as you can see, the battery life leaves a lot of room for improvement. How can I increase ir?
Not sure, but after rooting my battery life improved signigficantly, and it also charges fast than before... htc wildifire.
ok so i charged my phone to 100% and left it on my table untouched last night when i got to sleep, left it in my pocket today at uni without using wifi/games, just to check the time, is currently still at 99% with up time of 14hrs so far.
and if you want to maximise your battery life with stock rom, lower brightness, disable auto sync of accounts, disable 3g if you're not using it, try juice defender, i think that might help you guys.

Hmm strange, I have installed it and icon shows normally in application list.
I went through the calibration process and my battery life has increased significantly. Currently I have 5 hours and 12 minutes of uptime with occasional phone calls and some wifi usage - battery is at 99%.
I find that battery life is all about how strong ur signal is.
At home i get a full 3g signal, battery lasts about 30 hours with my syncs on all day, couple of hours of wifi and maybe 30 mins of gaming and about 30mins of phone calls.
When i'm at work and the signal fluctuates i get about 20 hours average.
When i was in a restaurant for a party recently from 7pm to midnight, there was hardly any signal and i used about 60% of the battery in 5 hours!
At the end of the day if the battery lasts for 18hours with all my stuff turned on then i won't complain as the phone does everything you need except make the tea!
I mean what's the point of turning all the smartphone stuff off? Might as well just go and buy a Nokia.

I faced the same problem, since rooting my wildfire. Can someone answer. Tks

i have to say, the juice defender rocks, totally solve my battery problem.

actually, i still dont understand how it works. days before, i keep.complaining the bad battery, it drops 15% after one night. i turned my wifi and 3g off, it didnt work. i opened a thread to complain about this, some friend advise me to use the juice defender which really help a lot. now it use only 3 to 4% for 8 hours standby, which is much much better than before. if u are also troubled by ur battery, give it a shot. it's free from the market.
my set: all enable except for the location.

What does it shut off? Seems like it has to be something important to work. I want my email in real-time; does it mess with that?
I installed this only a few hours ago. yet to see any significant change. By the looks of it, having it on the default setting will turn data off when your screen is off, but I still get e-mail notifications in my 1hr check intervals even when my phone is sleeping.

The main feature is that it disables data most of the time (2g, 3G or wifi) and only enables it at preset intervals, like 2 minutes every 30 minutes to get your e-mails and stuff.
So basically what you lose is push / real time notifications.
It can also manage the screen brightness and CPU clock more precisely, put the phone in plane mode while you're sleeping (for example you can tell Juice defender to go in plane mode from 23:30 to 6:30 every day, except if you're still using your phone after 23:30 or start using it before 6:30), or activate wifi only when you're in a specific location.
Does anybody have issues receiving MMS picture messages with JD or any other power saving app running?
I had 'Green Power' running yesterday. A few people sent me pics which came through as blank. Stopped the app and asked them to resend and it worked.
Thanks
NC
I tried this app too, but the battery draining when WiFi was enabled was higher than without JuiceDefender. Still trying to get through all the JD settings...
I dont think Juice Defender would work well for me as I use Whats App a lot...
I use it on my ego. One of the best apps i bought
from my phone duh
Is anyone else able to toggle the 2G/3G setting? I've paid for the Ultimate Pack (wish i hadn't now as the Plus pack is supposed to do this) but apparently JD doesn't like my ROM, the Log says: 'ROM is not compatible with AOSP helper (3G control is unavailable) - get CyanogenMod
Out of interest i was on a UK O2 branded phone so i flashed XEU KW7, then rooted, then put back the original KE7 kernel. I wonder if that's the problem?
I was messing with Juice defender, but I found the app called Battery Booster to be much, much more effective. I went from a 12 hour battery, to having between 24 and 28 hours the last 3 charges. Simply amazing, more than doubled my battery life. Using perhaps 1-2% per hour when sleeping.
1-2% per hour when sleeping is not that good, i get 3% in 8 hours when sleeping.
But juice defender does what should be built into the gingerbread and that is, it puts your wifi and 3g to sleep when your screen is off or when you are not using it.
I personaly dont use push notifications so loosing that doesnt bother me, what bothers me is when the phone is in sleep it drains because i have wifi on.
I dont want to be turning wifi on and off all the time, i want it to be automatic, when i go on the web or open an app that uses data it should turn on my wifi.
SO YES JUICE DEFENDER DOES ROCK.
Well, before battery booster it used 5 - 8% per hour sleeping, so I'm pretty darn happy with the results I'm getting now. It used to last me about 12 hours. Now it lasts usually over 24 hours, which is great. That is included with 3-4 hours of screen-on time. Android OS also dropped by 20% after getting battery booster.

You do know there's a setting for turning of WiFi when screen is off, right?
Settings - WiFi - Advanced - Wifi Sleep Policy

Unlikely but a factory reset often cures a problem .

no problem at all with push services.
the way juice def works is simple: it geolocalizes ur wifi router, and moving out the area of wifi, jd switches off wifi hardware until u come back home\office. it does the same with other hardware modules not in use.
wot doesnt work: ebuddy or other istant massaging apps while screen is off (I think it's unuseful to use jd with IM-draining batt-apps)

Hmm, am I doing something wrong leaving my phone charging overnight? Will that kill my battery?
When do you guys charge the phone if not overnight?

I just installed Battery Booster. Juice Defender didn't do much for me but annoy me.
Now see how this app will hold itself.
Very similar to my finding with ATK (link below). Something happened in Gingerbread with how the OS handles cached apps... to the point where some cached apps stay active and keep your device awake!
