[APP][10-12-08]MyWeatherForecast V0.4.1 - using Google weather

Hello,
i'm currently working on a small weather app for windows mobile.
I'm not yet ready to release a version as an important feature is still missing (configuring the city where you live ).
It makes use of the Google.com weather API and also downloads the images from there.
Goal is to make it as finger friendly as possible, and support multiple resolutions (currently running in VGA) while keeping it simple feature-wise.
Developing under #develop 3.0 with .net CF 2.0 and it's my first Windows Mobile app
Todo:
- add customizeable font colors (currently only background colors changeable)
- transparent icons
- add multiple cities selection
Installation:
- Just unzip anywhere on your PPC

V0.4.1 beta:
Just a very small update:
- Fixed bug where weather "age" showed wrong time if update was longer than 24h ago (added "d" now for showing whole days if > 24h)
- changed startup time, now shows last weatherdata much quicker
- added finger scrollable settings menu (test only)
- changed customizer to finger controllable (removed trackbars, again test only)
V0.4 beta:
- changed update behavior (no update on startup, only manual)
- cached last weather settings: Program will start with last downloaded weather data and display "age" of this weather data in hours or minutes
- Update now also possible by clicking the upper panel (in addition to the large weather icon)
V0.3 beta:
- .cab installer available
- Fixed download issue: No longer partly downloaded images
- fixed settings menu layout for VGA (now scales correctly)
- added "Customize" menu: Configurable colors for the 3 main layers (Upper, middle and lower)
V0.2 beta:
- reworked GUI, now should fit VGA and QVGA devices
- added "Settings": Hold & Tap to get into settings menu - allows changing of all weather related settings
- new icons (by www.defcom.com)
V0.1.1 beta:
- fixed QVGA display
- fixed °F / °C conversion

- very early first release, use at your own risk!
- downloads weather data on start
- refresh by pressing the big weather icon
- customizeable only via xml settings file
- language can be changed by changing path (e.g. from .com to .de) of google URL in settings XML
- 2 settings with DE and EN languages available, just copy to the same location as the exe and rename to Settings.xml

Looks very promising. Will have an eye on it. If possible, please add the posibility to change the background so that it sticks to your favourite theme.

Layout looks clean, simple and nice. You say fingerfriendly - how about buttons ? Just did one quickly in Photoshop, maybe you use something like this, a bit lighter maybe to fit the big amount of white..
Maybe you could include an option to choose different icon sets as in WeatherPanel.

Idea is good, but this would bloat this app. And the author wrote, that the images are directly from Google, so I guess different icon sets are not planned.

Looks like it takes up a lot of screen space. Will you have a simple today plug-in? The best that I've ever found is Pocketweather. It even has a GPS feature where it automatically updates your location and gives you that weather forecast. TONS of different today plug-in styles too.

Well, I like the idea of a GPS feature, too.
Next idea: Automatic download of weather conditions with autoclose connection when it's done.

Well since I'm downloading those images only once (not if they already exist) one could easily replace them with other images.
However, the filenames would have to be identical and one would need a complete list of google's weather icons (which i don't have).

I could be wrong, but I think that google gets its weather info from weather.com, same as yahoo does. So you should be able to use any icons with that numbering.

hallo, i tried it on my qvga device.
simple and clean,
-but the text and icons at bottom could be a little bigger
-and i have no temperature.
- i just changed the location in the xml to my hometown and it seems to work ?

Weather
Ok Im a weather nut. If its weather software I've tried it all.
I changed to my city here in the USA. I changed the degre reading to true for Fahrenheit. But it stays Celcius.

I've uploaded V0.1.1 which fixes QVGA display issues and Fahrenheit / Celsius conversions.
(however it also introduces also some font display issues with VGA, so better stay with V0.1 when using VGA devices!)

Hi,
thank you for your feedback. This tends to happen now and then and only for the lower 4 images and i still don't know why exactly (because it's the same code for all images and either the download gets interrupted or it doesn't save the images correctly to the PPC...).
The same code works fine on windows Vista however (using .NET HttpWebRequest)
Solution for now: Delete the "cache" folder and try again to update your weather.

Background All Pages - With Weather Animations!

Hey Guys .. Just found this .. and worked Great ..
I am Using: T-Mobile TP2 With Mobile 6.5 and HTC Sense
Tried 10-15 omg .. sooo many different vers and was never able to get one that worked for me.
The flip clock would be blank or would lose the weather under the clock.
and never found one that would let you change the wallpaper and still have
the weather animations on the main screen!
This is what I did ..
#1 - I turned off HTC Sence
( Settings / All Settings / today / Items - uncheck HTC Sense )
#2 - Install - apristel BG4ALL_W_Fullscreen_Animations.cab
( apristel BG4ALL_W_Fullscreen_Animations.cab )
#3 - Soft reset
#4 - Turn on HTC Sence
( Settings / All Settings / today / Items - check HTC Sense )
Worked Like A Charm ! Now Have Clock and Weather And My Fav Background / Wallpaper And Weather Animations!

What flavour of Manila/Sense is the TMOB TP2 using? I've got an AT&T Tilt 2, which uses Manila 2.1.19183217 but I thought the weather-on-home-page thing was only Manila 2.5.x.

will it work with 6.1

Yea .. mine has the weather ( under the clock ) ..
So .. I am not sure if it will work on yours .. you can try .. and if it dont just uninstall it .

doesnt this make it to where when u switch to landscape the imsage is stretched out

will this hack work with the stock version of ATT Rom

[Q] moving items en start menu ?

Hi, on Wm6.5 roms for the touch HD you can press and hold on the start menu items an move them arround but in the HD2 you can only send them to top. Thats is a really ugly to reorder lots of icons.
I think there must be a key in the registry to set this behaviour but cant find it.
Someone knows it?

I use JWMD Icon Changer V1.9 beta for Windows Mobile 6.5 to change the order of the start menu items... Works well.
Hope this helps...

This is not in the registry. Its in a SYS file named gwes ithink. Only way to fix it is by flashing to cooked ROM or update from HTC.

but how old cant it be? HD2 got one of the newest wm6.5 roms... From where the chefs got the newer version for the HD then???

Does JWMD work for anyone else on their HD2?
On my old phone both JWMD Icon Changer and Showaco reSTART worked great in arranging the icons. On the HD2 however, neither seems to work.
JWMD arranges most of the icons on my HD2, but it doesn't rearrange them all (like the settings icon, it appears randomly in the list) and the ones that it does rearrange don't stay where they are supposed to and move after a little while.
What has HTC done to the Start menu to make it different? Because rearranging icons worked great on my old phone with these same exact programs.

I think that behaviour can be cause htc icons are created every time the phone reboots. There is a cab somewhere here (i think is in the tips thread) that disable the recreation of icons so after that you will have no problem. I hope that works

Thanks for the input, but I already solved the issue (by doing a hard reset, heh).
JWMD works great now though, and with some spiffy icons makes my HD2 almost perfect - the disorganized icons were really bugging me.

My friend, no need to open a new thread for this kind of problems. Just report it to Dutty (he already knows about the problem). And wait for an update from Dutty himself. Opening threads like this makes this forum full of threads that don't get answered. They only make a lot of traffic and disorder. I don't know what the moderators are doing here. They only close things that could be useful but oh no not this kind of thread.

We are talking about Dutty's ROM not some other ROMs. "20 shortcuts" or "16 shortcuts" won't work on the version of Manila Dutty is using. Just for now.
(They work but with bugs. Alarm button not working and weather animation freezes)

I think the thread title should be changed.
This is not just with Dutty's ROM. This problem is there in every ROM that is using the Sense Manila version 2.5.19222911.0
So, Please change the title of this thread to reflect this information.

Friend - I am using this Dutty Rom Manila 2.5 on my HD2 and MaxManila 2.7 works 100 % without any problems. All the features of maxManila 2.7 works without any problems - I selected 20 quicklinks . Infact I just test it again with 16 quicklink and there is ABSOLUTELY nio issue at all. The Alarm also NO issue and weather animation is perfect so much so I never like it and I always turn it off with MaxManila 2.7. Perhaps is other installed software affecting you are unable to have it done.
After installed the rom, I restored my email/SMS/PIM. Then I install BSB tweaks - configure it , reset and then I install MaxManila 2.7. After MaxManila 2.7 successfully installed , I proceed further to customize it further with clock chnages and visual customizations from DJcedric cabs . I have again I say ABSOLUTELY no problems and the whole rom is still pretty stable - already having it on my unit last 10 hours

ok mate. I have done a hard-reset and installed nothing but max-manila 2.7 and the bugs are still there. so I think there is something else that you do. I will play some more with max manil and will report back.
I think you didn't get what the bugs are. The "alarm" on the home screen won't launch the "alarm prgram" and when the weather animation (like when clouds flying all over the home screen, you slide the slider to another tab (messeges or whatever) and back to home screen, the clouds are frozen in the middle of the home screen. They don't move)

Alarm on homescreen will launch alarm program immediate ; and weather animations no such issue of freezing. Infact I very simple user - I just choose what I want from the MaxManila 2.7 options. The only fancy items are changing the analogue clock and the clock backgrounds ; others are status quo as per MaxManila 2.7. After I have fully setup homescreen to my desire, only then I proceed installed all the 3rd party programs
Anyway I cannot comment further as I am very happy and it works perfectly for me.
The only irritating issue is when I choose to change the homescreen wallpaper it is not immediate; I have to slide the bottom tabs few times to have the change effected and the wallpaper is same across all tabs

I mean that's very very weird. Could you send a picture of your home screen? If it's difficult for you, just forget it.
PS. it would be great if others could confirm that Manila Max works without any bugs.

I am uisng on dutty´s rom the version from Jaguaralani.
it is working BUT I have noticed one problem:
If you add a shortcut you cannot see the icon. After a soft reset the icon is visible (probably a restart of HTC-Sense would be the same).

If you don't then, there is something very weird going on here. How can the same .cab file behave differently on two devices? Anyone able to answer that?

Jaguaralani's mod causes the displaced background issue and alarm bug, the same as both of Vovichek & Jamrecords cabs. I will give Max's 2.7 cab a go now and report back with my findings.

[MOD] HTC Smaller Menus

hi all,i wanted some smaller menus to easily navigate on diamond's small vga display.
i started from Co0kieMonster's Smaller HTC Menus for Blackstone and edited the graphics
to match the grey/green manila bars from my own rom (based on gen.y d2x/sense 2.5).
people have tested them on other roms and they seem to be ok on sense 2.1 too..

Iam even more enthouiastic now. I wasn't aware of how much the big menu annoyed me. It's so much normal en natural with this mod. Clap my hands.

Great mod, but it doesn't work quite well on Sense 2.5.2012. The mod adds a " v " to every item on the menu list.
How 'bout creating a WM theme as well that will change highlights on WM selections, such as in menus, applications etc?
And would it be possible to have a mod that also changes the highlights, such as the "1 new sms" highlight etc?
EDIT: This update works on VGA as well!

as mkucuksari stated,you can downgrade from Menu_Enhancement_1_1_20113129_00 to Menu_Enhancement_1_0_19193526_00 then they should work fine. i'm not able to adapt them to the new manila 2012 by byself,as i told the work was done mostly by co0kiemonster but now it seems he's too much busy with his hometab mod and did not read my post in his small menu thread. btw i already use a black/grey theme on my own rom. i skinned the dialer and changed some highlights from notification enhancement too,if you want i can share them..
