It won't display all my subscriptions just like my old Nexus One. Also would show them with zero videos.

yeah that is very annoying. I would like iphone's youtube version because you can comment on the videos as well... even though iphone doesnt have the ability to watch high qaulity videos over 3g, i would keep androids features but i do get annoyed with my subscriptions not showing up. I think about 10 show and that's all and yeah no videos show that they uploaded.

The other day I was going at it with a friend of mine who ones an iPhone 4 (I got Evo 2.2). Youtube app let me down.
When you pause a video the downloading bar also pauses. It makes you think it also paused the download of the video to cache. His iPhone 4 showed the video pause but still downloading. He scored a victory .
After further review I noticed that video does continue downloading to cache while paused but the bar stops displaying the download. After you click the play button again one can see where the download is actually gone to in the bar.
I was wondering if this is only on my Evo of is it a bug of the app. Anyone else has this issue???

We all have this, its just the application. I personally think the YouTube application is trash. If you ever try to rewind then the app throws away all the cache of the video and makes you redownload it and the subscriptions feature is confusing and doesn't just show new unwatched videos like it should.
Using YouTube's mobile site is actually better, I hope some work will go into the YouTube app though.
Edit: I'm using CM6 8/24 nightly with the latest 8/17 gApps package.

Yeah the New Youtube app is junk.. I hate not being able to see certain channels by default, the TP2 youtube app was soo much better.
When My friend shows me his IPhone 4 youtube app, I say to him.. is your Optimized for HD? he was like ... umm.. should be..... The picture turned out amazing on my evo.. he was still trying to do HD...
Videos don't look as good thru the browser. Blame it on flash. The app displays the hq videos much better.

Mine never goes through flash when I go to the site. I hit the HQ button and it uses some streaming video player to actually play the video, not sure exactly what app, but its really bare bones. I get decent quality.
Yeah the YouTube player sucks. Wonder why there isnt a better YouTube player or more to choose from.

I wanted to see if anyone has been able to have by default high res youtube playback on 3g connection. I know that the youtube app will play higher resolution over wifi but on my old htc devices I was able to stream high definition over 3g.
I'm also intersted in this.

any other word on this. Will there have to be ann app for it. It sux having to watch the awful quality.
this reminds me of the my old iPhone3g,,,, it sucks having to watch youtube in that kind of resolution,,, and with the phone not supporting flash yet... there is no other option
Bump again for this topic. I'm surprised it's not talked about more.
I just came from a Samsung Captivate and it has an option to run video in HD. It took a little longer to load the film, but was well worth it!

Yes, just people with HTC devices are able to watch HQ videos...
That sucks! I would have just gotten the HTC Surround if it didn't look so cheap and have such bad reviews.
We can only hope that either MS or a developer can come up with some software to fix this... as I wouldn't see this as being a hardware issue.
Buy a "RealTube" app, works fine on any handset.
Hello,
I was just wondering if it was possible for all youtube videos to play true fullscreen on the evo. Well, something like the iphone video resizing for all youtube videos. Is that possible?
Thanks
Turn your evo sideways in the youtube app.

I know that but some videos don't play totally fullscreen on the evo. The iphone has an option to make any video fit 100 percent to scale. Is there a way for the evo to do that
Oh I know what your talking about. Nope can't do that.

Its lame, but you can get the same result by actually going to view the video within the browser itself.
Just clico on hq and its full screen

Thats because the videos are 4x3, and you are watching them on a 16x9 screen. 16x9 videos will be full screen when you click the HQ button. 4x3 videos wont because that would be stretching the video and make it look awful.

It always astounds me how so many people would rather the video be stretched and distorted than have the black borders on the sides. Eh? To each their own…

lol me too. My best friend runs his PC to his tv and doesn't use the proper resolution so everything ends up stretched. He isn't even aware and doesn't seem to notice that everyone is extra fat, drives me nuts....
FWIW, the Evo's screen is actually 5:3 ratio, so almost any video content will need to be stretched or have some kind of black bars. Apparently the YouTube app doesn't support stretch.

Right? Almost no one in my family watches actual HD tv on our 50" plasma. It's such a waste IMO, and when I ask why they aren't watching the show in HD, they ask what the difference is and say they don't notice that the picture is stretched. Half the time, they say they thought they were watching HDTV. Or they say they don't care.
Seriously. There are 5 people living in my house, and I'm the only one who notices that standard definition looks terrible. WTF?
As for the black bars, some people think they're not seeing the entire frame of the video if their entire screen isn't filled. My dad used to insist on buying full screen versions of movies because he was convinced that the black bars in wide screen movies meant that the picture was being cut off, and he was only seeing half of it. As soon as I found out the real difference, I stopped watching full screen movies completely, but may dad still isn't convinced. Oh, well... What 'cha gonna do?
Hey guys I'm not sure if you've noticed but with the latest YouTube app update with the new ui, it seems the video quality is streaming in HD but at 720p. I can definitely tell just by watching a video, it's quite jaggy then reversing to the older app it's back to how it should be.
Does anyone else have this problem? I really like the new ui and it's features especially how you are scrolling around, click a video and when you finish and go back it's exactly where you were scrolling to. Unlike the old version where when you finish and go back it's suddenly way up on the list and you've lost where you're up to!

Well, you're not the only one. I love the new YouTube app in that you're able to search for new videos while the current video is playing, but the video (even fullscreen) looks like ****e!!..particularly on the Nexus 10 with such an awesome display resolution.
I don't know what the deal is, but you're not alone.

Considering we have 4K video on YouTube, this is a disgrace. We should be able to stream EVERY quality, not only standard, 720P or 1080P.

anyone experiencing freeze when play a video on youtube in 2k. for example a video from MKBHD or someone else.
because i can only see videos in 1080.
anyone?
I've watched a few movie trailers in 2k and they played fine. I don't know who could watch an entire movie like that. Looks wierd to me. I always disable that auto motion plus crap on 240hz TV's. I'd rather everything I watch not look like a soap opera. =)
If you're on mobile data and you haven't called T-Mobile to cancel Bing On then they won't let you watch Youtube videos in 2k let alone 1080. They reduce the quality of Youtube videos to use less data. Of course if you're on wifi this doesn't make a difference.
If you have unlimited LTE, you can turn off Binge On.

But I don't think that's OP issue here di you have the youtube link we can try?

I've heard even if you have unlimited data, they will still throttle you if you go over something like 20 gig/month.
Is that still the case?

It was pausing for me on his new video also, so I searched other 2k videos and all the others played fine. I think it is just his video.
Yes. 2k videos freeze on me occasionally. I really am curious what could be causing it. I also had my entire phone freeze once when playing a video in the Break app. It totally froze and the speaker was emitting a crazy high frequency sound. I just held the power button until it rebooted
I can't say for sure, heard that they reserved the right to throttle any crazy suspicious usage, but so far I haven't got one.
I use 25GB just this couple weeks, it's just because I'm taking a break from work, and watch too much K Drama, lol. But usually every month, I used 15-25GB.

No problem....Yea, depending on my signal, I used to have 1080 YouTube videos freeze on me before I canceled Bing on.
The latest update seems to have fixed this
I think it has something to do with the updated modem, prior to update I was getting 7 -12 MB download at home, now back to normal 25-30mb.
And when i tried to play gta san andreas in full resolution break the game. Anyone?
I think the issue here might have something to do with ram management. It happened to me 3 times already. And even after the resent update it did it again! Hopefully there's a fix for this soon.
Edit: OK try this.
1. Open youtube app
2.settings
3 . Backround and offline
4.under save offline tab. Disable the sd card.
Hopefully this helps.
