Widget locker borked my froyo - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Can anyone confirm that this awesome little app will break your installs.
I installed it then locked the screen and It wouldnt come back on although i could hear sounds
I am using darkstone's froyo v1 with the 03 cotulla zimage.
thanks.

Reopened thread, OP believes this is not build specific let the dev discussion begin

Just looking for experience's with this app It is a paid App and I wouldnt want anyone to get stuck with it if it causes problems specific to our ports!

I'm the dev of WidgetLocker. I use it on Froyo on my Nexus One and on my Droid Incredible. However I don't have an HD2. I'd be surprised if it's causing this problem but I'm happy to support it/fix a bug if there is one. The current release does sometimes leave the system keyguard in a weird state.
hazard99, shoot me an email (or PM but include your email address) if you want to be a beta tester. I'm planning on releasing it in a day or two anyway, but it'd be nice to add an HD2 user to the beta team.

Will do I look forward to beta testing as a avid member of the hd2 Android community. I will email u in the am as it is 10: 00 pm here and I am at work. This is a great honor

hmm, I've got the Market-paid version of Widget Locker (was for my Milestone). Might give it a go on my darkstone-based froyo build on my Euro HD2 and see what happens.
EDIT: Just tested, could not replicate the issue described by hazard99. Only issue I had was that the standard froyo lockscreen would popup instead of the WidgetLocker lockscreen for the first few times I pressed a button to wake the phone, but afterwards that went away. Tested with both Easy Wake option enabled and disabled, version 1.0 of WidgetLocker. Default options (ie. unchecked) for everything else. I'm also using Darkstone v1 with 03/08 cotulla kernel.

I have no trouble using WidgetLocker on my HD2. Works exactly the same as on my Desire.

Hmm ill have to check again cause it went nuts with no image.

I just had the same experience - blank screen but the phone was responding.
Then I remembered that DroidExplorer on the PC has a tool called ScreenCast. Using it I was able to operate the phone and realise that WidgetLocker set the screen brightness to 0.. Strange that. Re-set it to auto and all is well now.

Maybe disable auto brightness if you got it on.
Regards Hieu.

Can one of you check if it's the brightness slider that sets the brightness to zero on the HD2? (I assume when trying to set it to dim). If this is the case I can increase the value for DIM when on the HD2.

[Application] FlashApp : use your LED Camera as a flashlight

Hi HTC Desire users.
I develop a little and basic application that allows you to use your HTC Desire as a flashlight, using your LED Camera. This application is call "FlashApp" and is available on the Android Market (http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-damunix-android-flashapp-CDiD.aspx)
There is 2 mode :
- "flash": for a short time, but full power light.
- "on" : for a longer timer, but less power light.
It only works on the HTC Desire for the moment. I made some tests on the Nexus One, and My application will note work without rooting it.
If you have any questions, suggestions, idea, post it on this thread.
Note : this is the official thread of the app, the old one was : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667474
hey, thanks for the app! great use for it! It made it to the center of homescreens.
Can you make a on/off flash mode? So that it will last while on and will stop on closing/or pressing of?
Thanks
Great work, thanks. can you create a nice icon for it?

@ Damunix
Great app - I was following the other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6374683#post6374683 and did a write up which should be on the front page later today... fyi it links to the original thread.
Thanks , but please add icon .
Great job Damunix!
At least someone gets it. Saves people having to read every thread which asked for such an app unsuccessfully as well as some rather vapid, churlish and irascible troll posts.

Good work fella. Thanks
Great work mate, I'm glad you got it up as an official app. I don't actually have a Desire yet but it should be arriving on Wednesday and this was the only missing feature that I felt a bit let down about. Now it's there and I can't wait to receive my Desire and download it. Thanks for your work.
Very useful app for getting my gas & electric meter readings! TYVM
Awesome! thanks
I cooked your app posted in the previous thread into my rom and changed the icon. Maybe you like it, looks good on a Amoled screen, its attached
Did you change something with your app when you started this thread?
Regards!
Excellent app! It's only a little thing, but makes life so much easier when trying to find the right key!
Just a little update,
new : Application icon, thanks to Pr0sper
this is because a lot of people ask for an icon as soon as possible
wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! works on my Desire ( Orange UK ) fab!!.. Infact I'm still seeing the light every time I close my eyes!!!!!!!!!.... Note: don't look direct at the light .. well done!"
I don't understand why, but in the last version it seems that there is a sign problem of the application.
Sorry about it, you need to uninstall and re-install it
works great! thnx!
I installed on my T Mob Desire - app works almost.
Light stays on - flash only flashes briefly. Can't get full brightness permanently on.
Is this the idea?
Yup, you can only have the full brightness (flash) on for a short time. There are some worries that leaving it on full brightness permanently could damage the LED.
I think the normal, lower brightness setting to be adequate in most situations.

Security->"Lock phone after" setting

Guys, it appears, that in all 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) ROMs I've tried so far the option in the subject (Lock phone after) is missing. As a result, if you set a PIN or lock pattern, it is requested every time you lock your phone. The setting is available in HTC Sense ROMs.
This seems like a pretty basic security feature. Moreover, it is apparently present in Android since 2.2 (Froyo). Any idea why it's not in many ROMs? Is there a 2.3.2 ROM which has it?

bump - I'm interested as well, as this is one of the few things which hold me back from using gingerbread

very odd indeed. I do know its been included in every CM7 rom i've used in the past month. theres probably an app for it too. any reason you havent tried a cm7 rom?
CM7 or MccM HD v4.5.... these two ROM both have the patterns lock you want..
Give it a try.... You will fall in love with it...

To be honest I've just flashed my son's wildfire with a CM7 rom and it has it also, you're right...
It was a built-in feature in Windows (up until 6.5 - I don't know about 7) then HTC trasferred it to Android if Sense installed...

it's not the pattern lock we're after but the ability to delay the lock (3-5-10-15 minutes) after you switched off your phone - so when you switch it back on (within the set time) you do not have to unlock it
you can have a strong password but you don't have to apply it every time just when you leave it alone for a longer period of time
Wierd... The imilka Gingerbread with sense (in my signature) has got the option to set lock time to immediately, 3 min, 5 min or 10 min (Exchange ActiveSync-policy)
And yes, i use it as a daily build, and with Exchange at my work...

no it's not wierd - it's a htc sense rom so it has it (whether it's eclair, froyo or gb)
the only - big - problem with imilka's gb rom that it's quite experimental yet
I found it on CM7(7.0.2.1)!
Under Settingns>CyanogenMod>Lockscreen>Display-Timeout and Lock
I should really make use of my eyes

That's not good enough. The option sets the timeout for lockscreen - the slider (or other obstacle) you need to move before you can access the main screen. It doesn't control the security lock separately from the lockscreen. Sense builds have this option, apparently they were modified from the original Android sources to support this.
In both the shiftpda boyppc rom and hyperdroid CM7 I have seen the option to pick how long it takes before the pin lock is activated. Its in the CM options on the settings screen.
settings>cyanogenmod settings>lockscreen>delay and timeout

Ironically, DramatikBeats is correct. Was wrong at the time but is correct now, provided a CM 7.1 build from 27 July 2011 or later is used. You can trust me about this because I know where I put the controls for the new feature (haha).
Details from another thread.

Why your home key doesn't respond when you long press it.

Just wanted to give some people a heads up on WHY this happens
It isn't your kernel or ROM to blame, it happens because of android coding.
Anyone who's ever used WidgetLocker may recall that they call this the "5 second rule."
Basically when you press home, Android disallows any apps to do anything for about 5 seconds, this includes long pressing home to bring up most recently viewed apps.
WidgetLocker has a way to bypass this, and I believe a few other apps do it (ones that rely on the home key... I think QuickDesk might). I'm unaware of any app that's sole purpose is to do this.
Hope this helps someone
Thanks. I was going crazy trying to figure out why long pressing to access the task manager was not consistent.
And yes, this 5 second rule applies to many services, including hidden APIs for shutting down the screen. Apparently there are no official APIs for this but the hidden APIs requires a small delay (about 5 seconds).
wow, I really thought it was the kernel because this only happen to me when I'm with the OS kernel so I'm ending up flashing the stock kernel. nice.

Thanks for the info. I knew about the 5 second rule through widget locker, but I didn't know it ran that deep in the system.
But i never use widegt locker and b4 bi-winning i was running trigger with tiger kernel and home long press was fine it is the kernel caus when i first swtiched from os to tiger u could tell the difference its so annoying but i love os with bi-winning just wish that didnt happen

Tested and confirmed. Thank you BT.
This only seems to be noticeable to me on 2.2.1... I never had this thought on roms like Trigger (2.2).

The inconsistent long press drives me crazy. So much so that I ended up switching to the task switcher app.

Issues on ICS Andromadus Beta 3

Hi everybody:
I installed this RoM a few days ago, and I noticed the following two issues.
First: when I have the screen on, but the screen is locked, Im able to display the notification area. As the phone is locked, I think this shouldnt happen.
Second: when I access to a photo or a item from internet (a facebook photo or a doc previewed in gmail) if I want to turn the phone and change the orientation, the phone tries to load the item or the document again.
Thankyou for the ROM, great work guys!
Regards, Jorge!
PS: I tried to post these issues on the Development forum, but I have no rights to post there.

1) This is an ICS feature. Unless you have a PIN or some other type of security feature to access the phone, the notification area can be opened from the lockscreen.
2) New to me. No idea.
Always good to get a discussion rolling. I've found the test builds to work well

Indeed the first one is a feature built in, apps like WidgetLocker let you configure that so you can disable it, but on stock lockscreen that's just how it goes..
As for the other part, that just basic stuff, this is taken from developer.android.com, the activities section:
Handling configuration changes
Some device configurations can change during runtime (such as screen orientation, keyboard availability, and language). When such a change occurs, Android recreates the running activity (the system calls onDestroy(), then immediately calls onCreate()). This behavior is designed to help your application adapt to new configurations by automatically reloading your application with alternative resources that you've provided (such as different layouts for different screen orientations and sizes).
If you properly design your activity to handle a restart due to a screen orientation change and restore the activity state as described above, your application will be more resilient to other unexpected events in the activity lifecycle.

It is a bit annoying, but every app on all Android versions does this, or is atleast supposed to. Also, that doesn't really have anything to do with the ROM as such, more with the design of applications.
are there any new bugs with beta 4? or should i wait for the "not beta" ROMS?

0.0's JB CM10 port. Lock screen and mail app Q's

Hello guys, Skelly here, completely new guy on xda-dev. I've only been flashing ROMs since last week so pardon me if my Q's seem a bit noobish or if they have already been answered. First of all, i just want to say that 0.0's JB CM10 port is pretty amazing. I guess credit would also go to nk111. I have had it installed since early this night so i may have just missed these somewhere.
ROM link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784629
But #1: When i lock my phone and the screen is off, pressing my trackpad does not wake it anymore. Only pressing the power button would wake it. I cant really find any kind of option anywhere in the settings to fix this (or like i said, maybe i just missed it), so if anyone can help me out with this that would be great.
#2: Is there any way to get the default mail app from garleest's Glacier One ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852410 and make it work on the JB ROM i mentioned earlier?
#3: I'm sure I missed this in the ROM thread but is there any other kernel I can use to get around the issue where the battery tends to get really hot?
2. No, this is Sense app and it won't work without Sense framework.
1) There is no way to get trackpad to wake the device, this is a sense only feature
3) Nope.
Flash this fix for trackpad wake and let us know. Remember to back up before flashing.
