Froyo probably isn't in the near future because the sense ui is customized for this phone only which probably has it on the back burner
Damn it,i always get screwded with phones first Behold 2 now Slide, thinking bout getting Vibrant since it probably will have good support but than again its Samsung so you never know.

Yes it does because whenever it's released we're going to have to incorporate it into new ROMS. I meant it as a heads up. Also as notice to keep your ears to the ground for when we can get a leak.

No, it doesn't. This is not a post about android development. This is a post about an update to the stock software.
This isn't the "Things kinda sorta related to android development forum".
As a separate note, even if this was the correct forum, it's already been posted:

The real question here is... Will this update get rid of our root?
well if your running a custom rom you wont get the update so you wont lose root. other than that i dunno
hah! to be able to OTA you'd have to have a non rooted phone anyway... once you root, you lose the ability to accept OTAs but if you found a dl and flashed it, you would definitely lose your root... i'd suggest waiting for the devs to release an equivalent rom with the changes (which they will once its received) and flash that instead
My phone is rooted and I recived the update but I haven't installed it

Yup no update just instructions on the update and what it will do I was just scared to press on the link

if its the same update we already tried pulling, then its not going to be possible... but anyway, you wouldnt wanan try it
my phone show update 1 already,. so this will be update 2?
If I we're you I would try it. I didn't receive yet but If I do I'll update and pull what I can

This basically confirms there won't be a T-Mobile Froyo update for the slide. It would make no sense for T-Mobile to release this update, roll it out over a two week period till August 19th, then come out a week later releasing another update. The bug fixes in this release are just minor, nothing that couldn't have waited. And from the leaked T-Mobile road maps, this is the only planned Slide update for the rest of the year. It makes a lot more sense for T-Mobile to be upgrading the newer phones like the Vibrant, and get some of us Slide owners to upgrade as well.
This makes the work of all the devs here on Froyo roms even more important. Don't give up guys! I'm waiting patiently for a stable CM6 release...
You do realize this phone is only, what, two months old? It'll get a 2.2 update, it just won't happen for a while.

from the looks of the t-mobile calender it seems that slide owners should hopefully be getting the 2.2 update in late july.
it could however be a hundred other things but considering this is the only marked timeline for an update on the slide, my best guess is that its froyo and then shortly after the OG mytouch will get an update as well.
it could also be an update in preperation for the 2.2 update.
i figured it was post worthy and i thought id share the news
Thanks for posting. Saw the roadmap somewhere, but didnt notice it had planned updates on it as well. Really hope they stick to this plan.
Cant wait for froyo. However Im sick of Sense and just wish I could root and get rid of it already.
I called t-mobile today to deal with something and the person I talked to said we were getting an update this week of somesort. Don't know if its 2.2 or not. I doubt it is.

Never again samsung, not even with a quad core 2Ghz cpu! At least Motorola is communicating about the update with its customers! My wife has the Cliq too and she actually doesn't mind 1.5. I tried to convince her to let me root and rom it for her but she wants to wait for OTA.

mine was the same way with her BH2 when we both had them and Eugene started putting out the ROMs that made the phone bearable... until I showed her that I had Nav and how the a2sd worked. after that she was hooked as soon as we got our Espressos she was on the boards 3-4 times a day looking for someone to crack root, hell she's tried out more ROMs than me now

World Release! Android 2.2 FROYO on the Samsung Galaxy S. Tomorrow 12 o'clock'. AMSTERDAM
twitter.com/SamsungFirmware
At the look of this I suspect that getting 2.2 sent OTA for the Vibrant shouldn't be too far behind.
This is awesome, I heard the vibrant is supposed to get froyo early august. I am impressed with samsung, they are ready stepping up.

I'm pretty sure read somewhere on the forums that confirmed that even if you root it, you should still receive OTA's. However, might want to find someone that could confirm that. I'm about to go pick up my Vibrant, im so excited!

I don't see why rooting should stop you from getting the update.
If you have done more than just rooting, then I'm assuming you might have trouble getting the OTA update. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.
EDIT: By "more than just rooting", I mean if you have installed a custom bootloader or a custom rom.
Cool beans!

Yeah, but if you install it, you will lose root. There will be a modified rom that's rooted VERY shortly after it is released though (Probably before many get the OTA update).
Wow, that was quick! Glad to see Samsung is following through with their promise and fast.
Hopefully the Vibrant will get a release in early August.
if this also includes a GPS fix, i'll be picking up a vibrant within the next week or two... after i pay AT&T my last payment on that contract. whoo!!

Hope so! though t mobile will want to get their hands on it before we see an OTA, of course once a vibrant/captive compatible version hits the internet, we will see a flash ready in no time.

This is so awesome thanks for the info.

there should be no reason for those who rooted to not recieve an ota update. however, if you flashed a custom kernal/radio then those ota's might've been disabled.
Anyone noticed this?

Is there any way to port the new 2.2 update from the original mytouch??
Yeah but with the 2.2 update push for the slide starting in 5 days (25th) so the rumor and t-mobile are saying, it would be pointless to port it. By the time anyone did, froyo would be out.

I hope so. I love cyanogen's roms and everyone else that cooks but without the rom actually built for this phone it's missing out on some functions and isn't at it's full potential. They're doing their best but given what they have to work with it will fall short until then. So come on t-mobile!!!!

I saw somewhere that the update for the slide is going to start on oct 31 so... let's wait an see, if there is no news of froyo by that time maybe we will have to make a port of the 32b update or wait for the htc gratia (the aria version for europe) to come out next month which is running froyo sense whit hgva res and same processor as our slide n_n

I had read it in a few different threads and some various sites - like I said though, it's a rumor and sadly like all froyo rumors (so far) for the slide this one turned out to be false too
I'm rooted with the .7 update (used superoneclick).
If anyone updates to this new version can you please post here to let me know if it breaks root.....or anything else.

yea its BS. My Friend has the T-moble mytouch 3g and he just got the 2.2 update. That phone is older and has less ram with the same processor as our CDMA Hero.
How come t-moble cares about old phones but sprint does not?
@firehawk if you get the update just download it and use adb to pull it off your phone and 7zip (or extraction tool of your choice) to open it up and have a looksy. You don't have to install it right away or at all.
By the way sprint doesn't care about us anymore

You can't compare the MyTouch 3G (MT3G)and the Hero. Have you thought of the fact that the MT3G is based off the simple AOSP? It's as basic as it gets for the Android update process. Google effectively did most of the work, and HTC/T-Mobile just takes it and makes it compatible with the MT3G.
The Hero is built on the Sense framework. So that whole thing needs to be redone for 2.2... so HTC/Sprint has to do a lot more work than it did for the MT3G. As a company with something like a dozen newer Android devices, it's just not economical to spend resources on maintaining it. It sucks, but that's how the tech industry works (and that's also why we have awesome developers working on CM6 for us).
It seems to me with another update they could've given us froyo. I bet that this new update will mess up root again so I'm not going to update it til it can be used with root.

One reason is Samsung is lazy. They have been known to leave their customers hanging, like that awful Behold II incident where customers were promised 2.1 and instead Samsung abandoned everyone with 1.6. Even their high end Galaxy S is taking them until Jan or Feb next year to come out. Even if the Moment is built on AOSP it doesn't mean Samsung can just cut and paste the Google code and be done with it. They have to actually do some work to get it fully compatible, but I suspect Samsung does not want to invest in the amount of effort required to do so. I expect Samsung would have many different components and required drivers from HTC devices, so getting them compatible with 2.2 might be giving the sdx devs some trouble.

Highly doubtful.
Epic just upgraded to 2.2, and Vibrant was scheduled last week but got postponed a week. If we were going to see 2.3 instead, then we'd have to wait months...first Samsung would release to International Galaxy S, then give it to all the carriers who then make modifications.
At this point all the carriers have been working on 2.2 so I doubt they would drop doing their work on this to skip over froyo.
i wouldnt be surpised if we skip all updates straight into 3.0 after all not the first time samsung ****ed us(all galaxy s will get 2.2 SHORTY after release).
At this point, I don't have too much hope for 2.2. I've seen in the past with other devices and OS that VZW skip a release or two because it failed their internal testing or something. I wouldn't be surprise if 2.2 was like that

Seems this is becoming a common sentiment. Go figure, right?
It seems as if Verizon is putting all of its eggs in the Motorola basket. They get updates/fixes galore.
I will be furious if the Fascinate goes the way of the Droid Eris (what I JUST upgraded from). Fortunatley, instead of burning an upgrae, I bought off of Craigslist.
maybe we will at least see a 2.3 leak one day!
We're going to get 2.3 eventually.
You guys can't blame Verizon for us not having froyo. If t mobile is so great why don't the vibrant have it? And sprints testing is poopoo, if you read about their new froyo, I don't think anyone is impressed
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yeah I absolutely love the irony of everyone jumping ship from Verizon when the other devices haven't got Froyo either. When T-Mobile gets Froyo onto the Vibrant we shall see. The Epic is different hardware (different enough that Samsung probably shipped different drivers/RIL). This entire attitude of "verizon sucks" is just laughable at this point.

T-Mo sucks and has the spottiest data coverage of any carrier I have ever used. I can remember driving down the highway, using my Nexus One in the car cradle, and having to wait for Google Maps to load up my current location because the buffered map areas couldn't keep up since the data connection kept going up and down. I could get across the city so quick on the highway that the network could not seemlessly handle me moving across the network so fast. Verizon has been a breath of fresh air compared to T-Mo, and the only thing I miss is the control I had with my Nexus One. That said, the screen on this phone is nice and is really the top of the class. We will get 2.2 soon enough, and with the proper foundation, I would think creating 2.3 ROMs will be an easy prospect.
