Yesterday a friend of mine showed to me how he uses iPhone 4 and video call features with BOTH front and REAR cameras!
Yes REAR camera...I was surpised. iPhone 4 has an internal application which allows for video call using both cameras.
Now I wonder: is it possible to customize skype mobile (or other similar chat applications) and force it to use our HD2 REAR camera (due to lack of front camera)?
Thanks and waiting
Saulo866
If anybody knows about a chat application (for windows mobile) which uses rear camera, please can he submit?
Thanks a lot!
S.
any idea?
I will appreciate
Saulo
In my many years of using Windows Mobile I have never heard of an application like this. Sorry.
I'm interested in this question too.
What about the "Video Share Mode" (Tip 14)?
Using the rear camera it would be possible to have video calls (using a mirror).
Skype for WinMo is not supported anymore. The last Skype-version for WinMo 6.5 has NO videocall-feature !!!!
And there will never be, since Skype will not be updated for WinMo any more .........
BTW: use search function and You will find all answers
Hallo Troed
Thanks for your suggestion...but I really tried the search function on many key words...
Can you please be more specific? Which search keyword did you input?
Or which apps/products did you find that might provide chat and video call features?
Thanks a lot!
Saulo
Hallo pdahunter
In my opinion if such a chat application does exist, it does not need a mirror: in fact the mic is omnidirectional and the speakerphone capability of HD2 are awesome, so I would simply turn my HD2 180 degree (on vertical axis) and use as it is, pointing the rear camera to my face.
Thanks for your ideas!

So how do you see the other person who is taking to you
simply I do not see the remote party (mostly my mother and my brother).
What I want is to have my mother (which is far away) capable to see my kids.
I would be satisfied for that.
Thanks
Saulo
Videoconferencing friends this could not be done with fring or nimbuz. This already happens with the iPhone 3Gs??

Back when i had my cingular 8525 (hermes) i was
also obssessed with trying to find something similar.
Eventually i did find something that Microsoft was working on
it was fairly old, WM2003 i believe and i remember on the website
it had a PPC with a camera attachment on top (very old looking website).
i never downloaded the app because right around that time i killed my data plan and nor longer saw a need for it. I think it was compatible with windows Messenger.
Microsoft Portrait - http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/portrait/
for videocalling, I just use skype on a laptop. Not really interested in using it on my phone.
Since skype is NO more supported, which are the best chat applications (with video call) that can compete with skype for windows mobile?
Thanks
Saulo
deal all
Any more updates? Any WM compatible video calling application, besides skype?
Thanks
Saulo

I would also like to know....
Please some one help us out
I got some hints about nimbuzz and fring, but do they have video call capabilities?
Can they run on WM 6.5?
Thank you
Saulo
Maybe this thread will show no more additional contributions...but I wish to try again: any feedback about Nimuzz and fring, as skype replacement?
Any idea if they can use the rear camera of HT2?
Thank you
Saulo

Hi,
Just wandering, I have recently bought a mda Vario II on T-mobile. I haven't got any mates with video phones so was wandering if I can use front video cam for anything else ?
Maybe with Pocket Messenger maybe as a webcam ?
Or even just a piece of software that I can use to "test" it's working at least ?
This maybe a silly question, but i am sure some of the smarties here can help
Cheers

Get a hold of the coolcamera software from ateksoft and you can use the camera inc. such things as web cam etc. (Not a free application though)
Mike

Since Ateksoft split up the coolcamera software from one\application to 3 or 4 it may be that you need the webcamera app.
There are loads of threads on this if you use the Google search sticky and put in- TyTn front camera coolcamera, you'll find them.
By the way you have to enter the menus to tell it to use the front cam.
Mike
orait..thanks mike it works =)
guys, not sure if this was posted before so apologies in advance.
i'm using skype on my unit and everything's working fine. my question: is there a way to use the front camera as a "webcam" while doing skype on the athena? as you know when you use skype on your pc you have an external cam. in this case, is there a way to use the one on the athena?
cheers
Good idea... it would be nice to see that feature with skype. If you want to use your front camera for taking pictures/video try coolcamera

I also have the Dutch version of the TP2, I've tried the HTC Voice Recorder:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=346298
but sadly it doesn't work for me. It installs perfectly but when you start it, nothing happens. Well, at least I don't know something is happening, maybe it's already recording everything.
Have a look here:

Works great on Rhodium.
Here you are - took me ages to find it too!

i am not sure, if i broke some rules, or ....
voice recorder
Have been looking for something similar myself adn was directed to noteM elsewhere on this forum.
But then I realised afterwards that there is already a notes app included with the TP2.
As default this is set for written notes but in the menu you can enable a voice recorder function as well.
You don't haave the extra functionality of choosing the recording format etc but the basic app is there for you to use.

Is there any software other than Mobiola that works well with the HD2 ?
Mobiola doesnt work well on Oovoo .. I get all kind of green scanlines in the picture.
Does anyone know a software that actually works and connects using BLUETOOTH ?
There is WebCamera Plus, but doesn't work well either.
Is there any other software that works?
Yeah I tried WebCamera Plus, not the best software =\
I guess we are still waiting for proper tool that works with HD2.
I use qik before it works great on my Xperia..
Did you try it on the HD2 ?
WAtch this for a how-to

not for everyone, and not a single app, but it works.

no but I think it should work fine.
Ahh thanks for the replies guys, but it seems there is no direct software that can connect through bluetooth other than mobiola ?
you have any news?
Bump! This would be useful, does anyone have a solution?
Bump!
Nothing new that has come up?
would love this. please find.
=( i Want to know too
mmh, i never used webcamera plus on my hd2, but on my omnia it worked very well Oo
Nothing happens, its a shame. Softwarecoders sleeping on trees. Since many years there are Phones with intrgrated cameras and wlan and bluetooth, but developers don't think ahead and are not able to calculate 1+1.
rebump. ild love 2 have this.
Hi,
what's wrong with Webcam plus?
i tried it and it worked for me. Ok, there seems to bee a bug if you set to very high resolutions. Than sometimes there is shown only a black windows and i had to restart. Did you get any more failures?
tinyCAM worked on my stock rom but not on my current Energy rom anymore...
Nice app, thanks! However tinyCam is not exactly what's of interest here. The idea is to have a regular USB web camera functionality in HD2, so you can connect it with Skype for example. tinyCam is video server. Ideally it would be great to have a simulation of some generic video camera, so you don't have to install any third party drivers/software.
