[HOW-TO] PRL Trick for froyo 2.2 - EVO 4G General

To change your PRL in Froyo, since ##775# doesn't work, Google the program CDMA Workshop and download, Find your COM Port by going in device manager and looking at properties of your phone under modems, On your phone dialer-press ##3424#, plug into USB, in CDMA Workshop under the Main tab select your COM Port and hit connect....Go to the Other tab, under that you will see PRL. Directly below that you will see Read and Write, Hit Write and navigate to your preferred PRL, Reboot......You can also save your current PRL by hitting Read
OR
Easy way....
You can take the espt.apk from fresh's 1.0.1 and replace it with yours.
This doesn't work on CM6

in for techknowfile app!

I think the best app to go off of is "Network"...its a direct dialer code app

For those that don't know about CDMA Workshop and own a CDMA phone....please learn this program, it is very useful and the more people that know how to use it (and QPST), the more can develop with it...........It is kinda dangerous to play with tho

What is this for

Is this for loading in Verizon PRLs? I am needing a simple app to force switch from Sprint to Verizon (roam) network when I need to.

Modifying The "radio" in the phone by accessing options and settings not normally available in the OS
Above Poster: Yes this program is used to "write" the PRL to the radio...like alltel PRL's

I tried to push the new PRL (60669) using CDMA workshop, but it says the prl file is not a valid prl file

yes, i did unzip; maybe it's b/c i'm on CM6 nightly, could that be the reason?

"60669.prl is not a valid PRL file"
I can almost guarantee that this is the result of running CM6.

Try connecting back to CDMA Workshop and see how your prl is being used with CM6...Go to PRL page and hit "read"...if you post your settings then we can compare yours and Sense's (AOSP-CM6) AOSP might use different settings than Sense's, using the PRL in another way?

Someone please develop an app for switching prls in froyo. Need it! Will donate.

Well I dont know about issues there, mainly a few major cities.
I would update your prl and data profile which obviously requires you going back to sense for a few minutes.
I have all of my radios updated. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 I do one at a time and reboot in between each one.
Check out "Data Speeds... wtf" in Evo General. You need to boot to a Sense ROM (I just use stock rooted). Basically, what you do is update profile in settings after updating your radios. Then, go to the Market and download MSL Reader. Launch it, get your MSL code. Then, go to phone and enter ##3282#. Hit Edit, and enter your MSL code. Go to advanced. Look at the bottom four, talking about proxies. For ports, put 0. For addresses, put 0.0.0.0 and hit menu and "commit changes". Reboot your phone. Then launch into Recovery and Nandroid back or whatever to whatever ROM you choose. Data should be better.
You probably have the same prob as me.. We need to update our prl and pri... I will look up the directions for you tommorrow, but your phone whwn you r oot it did not uprade the prl or pri correctly.. Data wipe wont correct it you have to force the phone to do the "hands free activation" on its own multiple times.till the update takes.... My 3g went from 50 to 100 kbs to 1 to 2 mbs and 4 g jumped to 6 mbs most of the time.. You can also google update prl on your own sorry gotta get some sleep....

Hey, it sounds like hes got the same problem I had... Updateing profile wont fix it and flashing the radios doesnt fix it for everyone.. His prl and pri got messed up he need to force his phone into the "hands free activation" you are right it uses the espt so he needs a sense rom, but that is prob his problem for the really bad speeds....

Any sense rom will do, I used myns worm 2.2. Update pri, Also do the proxy hack while your at it, hit ##data# hit edit, enter your msl, go into advanced and Chang all the proxy to 0's you'll notice a significant boost in data speed. Don't wipe just nandroid back to your deck rom your good to go.

a Data restore fixed my speeds, updating the PRL, Data Profile, and all of that crap didn't do anything.

you can find your MSL which unlocks most of that menu. I use logcat live wallpaper and filter for msl result. it shows up every 5 - 10 minutes and I can use the phone while I wait. It appears taht when you access the menu it grabs that code and it ends up in the log file. A trick I picked up from working on my HTC Hero

Yes.. msl unlocks the data menu... but if u select 'view' instead of 'edit' from the hidden data menu.. you will find a new 'wimax' section. When trying to access it.. msl is required.. but even after doing so.. this does nothing.
I believe the wimax setting menus are NOT blocked.. but simply not there at all. Rather than try n lock out settings.. why not just remove the apks that do so. Seems Samsung wanted a quick n EZ fix.
If we could find out what the epics apks did exactly.. we may have a chance at porting them to nexus.
Orrr ... we find where the settings are stored in the phone and manually edit them.. via hex editing or something.

I came from an epic, Im not sure what the exact difference is. The epic has 4 apks in the /system folder regarding the Wimax:
WiMAXLineTest.apk
WiMAXWTM.apk
WiMAX_NETEST.apk
WiMAX_RC.apk
I have attached a zip with those apks.
Same thing for debug menu. Options for wimax, but doesn't open up. It's like the phone realizes this info is in the wrong spot and has radio and signal issue because of this. Might just be my phone though.

I used Super Manager to run through all the activities in the Sprint Menu, and I didn't see anything obvious (but I wasn't looking specifically for wimax at the time). You can add a shortcut that will take you right to the 4g toggle setting.

anyone have anything?
Idk but this aggrivates me, specially cause my girl just got the Droid charge with omg 30mbps compared to my .6mb 3g and my 1-5mb 4g when I find signal.
Whats weird tho is this. My brother and mom use Clear. They have the modem for direct internet and 2 usb dongles. The 4g and the 4g/3g ones.
The first day I used his Clear 4g usb I was in the middle of the house, and in the basement, it was 5-7mbps.
Then it stopped working in the house, it would only get 3g. If I sat near a window I would pick up 4g. I would have to set my laptop hooked up to a TV to stream netflix where speeds were up and down WTF OMG turtles.
Whenever I brought it to work with me, or drive laptop open to download big files. Pretty much everywhere that wasnt my house it would be 3-4 mbps. Sometimes 7mbps, one time 10.
Then 4g decided to never work at my house anymore.
PS I live near atlanta, and I am in the city.
Anyways I left ATT for sprint, and got the NS4g, it uses the same radio as Clear. 3g Spring, and 4gWimax.
day one with NS4g, i got 4g in my backyard by my back door and driveway, it was 5mbps. I remember it worked because i went outside to mass DL all my market purchases.
later that day, and to this very day, my yard, house and driveway...do not get nay 4g. Not on my deck, deeper backyard or near the Airvana. but i get4-7mb at work via tether.
Was in atlanta the other day, and it worked at 17mbps. I shat bricks and wanted to move there.
Been about 2-3 weeks. Ive had my phone replaced once. 2.3.3 3.4 and 3.5 havent made a difference.
So idk what happened, I blame clear. using my gfs to tether right now. hopefully verizon doesnt find out
any updates?

You have to have a current version that allows you to disable rom detection. PM if you need further assistance. I have Roam Control working on Miui
@mulhiny, I have Roam Control set up with rom detection disabled and can't get it to work. You mind helping me out and see if we can get it to work?
I was looking for answers to this exact question; I'm back on MIUI but miss that "roam only" option on the newer Sense roms.
So before I buy it, those of you using the "roam control" app: does it consistently put you onto Verizon's 3G when it's available? (I've been reading around some threads that the app may be limited to giving you only 1X for some reason, but that may be old information).
If you get 3G or 1X depends on what area you're in. You don't always roam on Verizon's network. Only way you can always roam on Verizon is by hacking the PRL.

I may have worded my question poorly, sorry about that. To clarify, right now there are locations where I get 3G on Verizon (noticeably/substantially faster than Sprint's 3G) when I use the "Roam Only" option in the newer Sense ROMs -- so I just wanted to make sure that in those same locations, this app would give me the same results in MIUI.
(I'd like the option to switch back and forth, so I would not have to use the PRL hack, and thus make sure I am on Sprint at least part of the time)
The app will only let you roam on 1x. HOWEVER:
There are a few PRLs out there that let you switch between sprint 3g and Verizon 3g. You can just use the roam control app to switch between the blazing fast and crappy network speeds.
The PRL is posted in a .zip file in the thread about hacking the PRL. Gimme a sec and I'll post a link for it.
Alright here's the link: http://db.tt/pxgkDfbI
Download it to your SD card. Make a nandroid of your aosp rom, flash a sense ROM, enter ##775#, enter msl (msl reader on market). Select the msl, hit menu, commit mods. Reboot. Bam!

I had to zip it since I couldn't upload a *.prl file. Got it off my Prevail.
As for swapping a Verizon prl to a Boost phone. You will get no signal/service at all. Boost phones are not allowed to roam onto any other network. If you have a Sprint phone then you can roam to Verizon... but if you have a Boost then you're out of luck.
Thank you for the PRL

The prl is to update your phone to the latest tower. You either use qpst or dfs to put the latest prl in your phone plenty of guides out there. If you on a sense Rom you can try putting the prl in your SD card and then dial ##775# and update it like that.

[GUIDE] How to manually change the PRL on the Galaxy S III

For anyone interested in changing their PRL, the method is as simple as ever.
This is on a Sprint phone but should work with any CDMA carrier.
*I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE*
1. Be rooted!
2. Find your MSL. I had a hard time getting my phone to give the numbers using the terminal for some reason. It's much easier just to use "Get My MSL," which can be found in the Play Store for free.
EDIT: This app worked for me the first time using it, but no longer does. Download Terminal Emulator from the Play Store, type in "su" and enter it, then try typing "getprop ril.MSL" (capitalization is important)
3. Make sure you have downloaded the phone's drivers onto your computer.
4. Open your phone's dialer and type *#7284#"
5.PhoneUtil should now be open. Click on "Qualcomm USB Settings" and select "DM + Modem + ADB." Remember to change this back after you change your PRL.
6. Plug your phone into your computer; let your phone recognize the phone.
7. Download your preferred PRL from the internet. I usually use 11115, but you can use whichever one you find best.
8. Open "Device Manager" on your computer; click on "Ports" and see which COM port your phone is connected to on your PC.
9. Use the program "CDMA Workshop" to connect to your phone by selecting the correct COM port, clicking "Connect," and then clicking "Read."
10. Go to the "Security" tab and put in your MSL into the box under "SPC." Click the "SPC" button and click "Send." It should say that the phone is unlocked.
11. Under PRL, click "Write" and select the PRL you want to switch to.
12. It should say that it successfully wrote; exit the program and let it reboot the phone when it asks.
13. Enjoy your new PRL!

I haven't tried force roaming, however I have successfully roamed on the Verizon network (at least according to the "Netmonitor" app).
Any way to get MSL without root? It's just good to have it "just in case". Only time I ever actually used it was to completely deactivate and remove info from my Epic 4G once I had my SGS3 activated.
