Pathetic....but we should have all known this was going to happen in the first place. I can't complain too much...I have the leak on my phone and love it. Once I deleted the maps 4.4 update my battery life went back to normal too. Might "officially" come out one day lol.

If the build ends in .3 then that's not the official anything per HTC, I hate to say. Not the final build at least.

All of the "reliable" sources and posts are coming from people with low post counts as well as info from Sprint Reps. When have Sprint Reps through the online chat, phone, or store ever really been accurate on phone updates?

Seems client-initiated is being allowed by some already per this post:

How did you you find out maps 4.4 was killing your battery?

No delay here.
I didn't get a notification, but when I initiated the system software update its comes up. I am thinking that i am going to wait to see if it gets rooted then go for it.

guess that little rumor was wrong haha

Next time you may want to actually reaf the article instead of just the headline. The update for ATT is not a GPS fix.

I call BS. The story I just read on Android Community said nothing about the Fascinate GPS being fixed in this update. It said "this update is only minor bugs that have been with the device since launch." No mention of GPS.
And here is Verizon's announcement. No GPS fix.
[sarcasm]look at that. CDMA variants are getting updates whereas GSM phones are bullet proof from the get go, thank you sammy![/sarcasm]

FroYo going official

So I just got a text from a buddy of mine saying his boss's epic updated OTA to 2.2 this morning. His hasn't updated, yet, and I'm still on DK17, so mine won't. We're all in middle TN. If anyone else gets the update, chime in and let us know.
I know everyone here is tired of all the rumors. The wait may finally be over.
I live in DC, but have a Memphis number. Do you think its worth it for me to flash back to DI18 this evening? Right now I am really enjoying DK28 after getting the screen rotation fixed...
Personally, I'm going to wait until I see more people get the update. If you're happy with the rom you have, then you might as well wait, too. I want to minimize my time waiting with a stock phone.

Get your buddy to ask his boss to check his hardware version. Don't want a repeat of the .4 vs .5 issue =P
The both got their phones at the end of October, a few weeks after I got mine. I know my friend's is a .5. I'd be shocked if his boss somehow got a .4 phone.
Samsung hasn't released anything on their twitter feeds or support feeds about a ota update. They are still saying by the end of the month.

How about they sell more Nexus S devices because geeks can't wait to get their hands on Gingerbread so they rush out to buy the phone anyways? Surely we all know it's coming to the Nexus S but look at the thread title, people are going nuts for Gingerbread as it is! LOL
Surely they could just do what Apple does and release the update the day before for the older phones but i guess we'll see

There is a good reason to wait.
Now when the SDK is out all the developers can test their apps against the Gingerbread and fix all the bugs and incompatibilities.
What do you think would happen, if goog realeases their 2.3 update and some popular apps don't work anymore? This forum would literally explode with screams like "fix this immediately or else", "I hate google", "gingerbread killed my cat" and so on. Why google would do that to themselves?

I'm sure he's doing both just in case one yields different results. Supposedly I've heard that the Settings Updater doesn't always check, but caches the answer for an allotted time. Doing a "checkin" actually goes out and pings google (or wherever) and comes back with a result after a few seconds. The Settings app just flat out tells you no.

No there isn't. That section doesn't 'check' for updates, it tells you the result of the last system check for updates, which is done automatically, or forced through the dialer.
Going to that part of the settings does not force a check.

Yeah they will probably either delay it to just after Dec 16th or release it some time next week. I'm betting on just after though.

True, but its not like they would lose any buyers anyway.
The N1 is only sold as a dev phone. And how many ppl have a N1? compared to SGS or others...
Also, like when they released froyo...many apps didnt work with 2.2 and had to be updated.
There are alot of devs out there with a N1 as a devphone. Giving out 2.3 before the NS release thus giving time for the devs to update their apps before launch would give android better publicity. And happier customers
I dont know if this is an issue with 2.3 though...
(I know the SDK is out)
I was referring to 1 day vs 1 week or more. More seems more appropriate, as you all say.
The only place I'll be "checkin" with is the Development section chef's.

While for many, this update won't mean much, for others is actually a very important update. Our current gmail app is seriously crippled for some email users, no android management tools, no push notifications plus a more restricted market. I briefly switched and was stunned at the improvements made to the gmail app...eventually had to switch back though because my Battery life took a *HUGE* hit. Samsung/Sprint is really starting to drop the ball IMO.
2.2.1 is still being worked on,,,but the talk around the water cooler is 5-6 months for gingerbread,,,but it will be ported long before then.

Who cares, use DK28. It works great and has the best battery life I have ever seen on a smart phone. Most recently, from a full charge with calls, texts, internet browsing, emailing, facebook, and over an hour of angry birds I got 31 hours of use before I put it on the charger at 6%. I used it the whole day, left it off the charger for the night and used it the next day just to see how long it would last. If they are making these kind of improvements I an very happy with the progress and they can have as much time as needed.

Are you trying to say that is the release date? If so, you just destroyed your own credibility because they would never release a huge update on a holiday. No one wants to be stuck with a broken phone on Christmas sitting on hold for tech support. They most likely have less staff working too, which would just compound the problems.
funy thing is I dont care if you think its credible,Im putting it out there,if Im flammed Im flammed...And to clarify what my info is,12/20 is when they want to have RC2 ready for .4 version test phones, the window is mostly 5 days for bugs to be reported, now we are looking at 12/25-26,then if it is given the ok,it will roll out before the end of the year as expected, not everyone will get the OTA the first day.So I cant say when you will get it,only when they expect it to be done....And if you follow my trail, posted exactly when DK28 would hit 3 weeks before,I said 26-29. And Ive said this before,DK28 was supposed to be final with an update 2 weeks after the roll out to fix any unseen bugs.I mentioned this here and on SDX,does that seem credible enough for you?

Just for the record,I never said Tuesday, and 12/26 was deffinitly the planned release date at one point. So I wouldnt doubt sources, things dont always work out... And just because the update is not in the playbook does not mean we wont see one next week OTA... But I will say this for sure, source "Talks around the water cooler say everyone should be updated by 1/31/2011",so that tells me that roll out should start on or before 1/26/2011,so Tuesday or Wednesday... Again Im not gonna call that the date this time, because I already see the flame throwers coming out of the wood work.
Oh,and I can promise you Gingerbread is being worked on also...
