Didn't someone mention a September HTC rom release a week or so ago?
still got 10 days to go... (hurry up, HTC!!!! )
well, I'd say this was a definite miss.
Froyo ETA prediction? How stable do you think it will be ?
i say 3-4 months until HTC and Sprint release the update.
just my personal assumption.

That long for the official, what about the unofficial & its stability?
It is supposed to be July...
Unfortunately, I haven't posted enough to post outside links. If you Google android 2.2 evo July; you should find all the articles.
For an unstable FroYo, we already have it. Maejrep is running it on his Evo now but until him and Toast release their root method we won't have it. But it's unstable and things don't fully work yet such as the camera. Now this is just an N1 port. That said, in June later in the month, the full FroYo source will be released. This will allow for us to compile our own AOSP build. There may be issues like we had with the Hero but we should be able to get most of it if not all of it working. So for a fully working AOSP FroYo we should be able to get it by mid to late June.
June 4th, thanks to some awesome devs in the community. my best guess/hope.
I have read good things about Froyo (Android 2.2) and would like to upgrade my EVO running 2.1 to this version. But I am a chicken**** when it comes to rooting my phone. So can a straight OS upgrade be done? If I upgrade, can I roll back to 2.1 if necessary?
According to Gizmodo: "If you bought an Android phone recently, Froyo's what it will eventually be running." Eventually my ass...I want it now!!

Only if you root can you get it before the official release.
Well, considering that most "in the know" sources are saying the 2.2 release will be in June, and we only have two weeks left in June, I think I'll wait.
You will most likely be waiting more than two weeks for a nonroot upgrade to froyo on your evo, haha. Read up

I've seen lots of information flying around on Engadget and the like about HTC 2.2 updates forthcoming, but I have yet to see anything at all about the Aria.
Does anyone have any idea if HTC / AT&T intend to update the Aria to 2.2? Of course I know if they don't, we have some guys working hard on unofficial versions. Just would like to know if we'll get anything official...
HTC has stated they're working on it, and they "hope to have it done by christmas" but I wouldn't hold my breath for it to get thru HTC and AT&T for the Aria by then. Last I can remember, the HTC Wildfire was listed as getting the update and the Aria is very similar to said device. I also recall hearing that HTC said all the devices released past a certain point this year (Aria falls within this range) will be getting 2.2. I'm sure the Aria will get it, but again, I wouldn't hold my breath, CM6 will most likely be in full functioning order before official Froyo
Will definitely be trying out CM6 as soon as it gets in a little more working order! Definitely not holding my breath on HTC + AT&T...especially not the AT&T part of that equation.
Nothing official about the Aria, but HTC Evo is getting some official 2.2 Froyo loving tomorrow.
Maybe with that, we can hope for an earlier release for the Aria.
I wont hold my breath, the Motorola Back flip have been out for how long and its still on the launch firmware. ATT will take their sweet time when HTC releases it to them, best chance is that someone here gets their hand on is and bakes a 2.2 with HTC Sense rom for Aria users to flash with.

Considering how the Backflip went, this isn't surprising. Why could a company back a device that isn't doing much on it's own already?
Might be coming sooner than some of you expect. HTC seems to be getting serious about froyo

Granted we'll have to deal with att.
I think we will see one, but it will be a pain to install. The phone, for whatever reason, cannot accepted over-the-air (OTA) updates... there's no option in the settings to see if there is an update like most other android phones. HTC has said you will need to use HTC sync to upgrade. (Though I'm sure many of the people here at xda will have no problem loading the ROM via Sync or other ways, for regular users this could be a pain.)
Thought I'd share. I found this bit of info on the htc support forums in the aria section.

Whne there is an update for the Aria-it will have to be loaded from a PC to your device. The good news is that after the first update for the Aria, Firmware Over The Air will be implemented so that any subsequent updates will arrive to your device over the Air once their are released. Currently, there are no updates for the Aria OS-they are in the works.
So it is quite possible we may be getting froyo because she said it's "in the works." One of the other HTC forum moderators said it may take a while because it will be "tested and approved" by att and that we'll need to update it via sync.
So from what I understand, she said after the first update, there will be more updates released OTA. Froyo is gonna be a sync update so when she says any subsequent updates will arrive, does that mean she's hinting we'll be getting updates past froyo? Maybe we'll be able to get 3.0 ;P I mean what other updates will there be? lol
I'd LOVE to get 3.0, but I'll be happy with 2.2.
There is a post at Unwired review (can't post link until my account is verified.. not sure if there is a way to 'request' to be verified), but it's from Unwired Review. Just google "Android 3 Gingerbread."
But then there was an update to the post:
Update: I posted an update to this post, where I address Dan Morrill’s tweet, and do some corrections/clarifications regarding the upcoming Android update number issues, “minimum” specs – thay are actually only “recommended”, and the the split between high end Android 3 – low end Android 2.2 devices – it’s not an official Google policy, but it is happening nonetheless.

So could we get it? Yes. And I think with the speed htc is pushing out the updates, it's not a question for them of "do we update the aria," it's the same question for many of their phones, since so many htc android phones are similiar inside and out.
Froyo for the Aria is something I have been looking forward to for a while now, and seeing it any later than October would be a huge letdown.

Does anyone know when or if the desire z will be getting Gingerbread and later on Honeycomb?
I have no idea if HTC updates their phones or just releases new ones (they seem to release a lot of phones) I'm sure it would take time for them to shove sense onto Gingerbread but even a rumored time line would be cool to know.
My guestimate on official updates is 4-5 months after the source is released.
The original Desire was released April, 2.2 source released May 20th, HTC 2.2 update released August 1st ?! ... Oh, that is only 2 and a bit months.
I still think 3-4 months so not to be disappointed. But We'l get custom ROMs before that hopefully.
One thing you need to know about HTC. They never ever ever release anything quickly for past phones.
There will be at least 2 news phones that come with Gingerbread (or whatever) before they release the update for us.
However custom roms will have it ages before then.
but the Desire got an update immediately..haha
