Here is what HTC have to say RE Hard RESET and SIM Re-Locking .... for HD2

Dear all,
I simple question to HTC, (1) if they could provide me with an unlock code and (2) if a ROM update with an unlocked phone would void the warranty.... Funnily enough I got this reply... out of point I know.... but it led me to realise something else....Read on ...

, Thank you for contacting us. In regards to the Rom and unlocking, I can help you with that. The unlocking code will only let you use another sim card in the device for calls and texts, the software on the device will still remain. As the device is branded the original software cannot be removed. If you do a hard reset on the device has been unlocked the code will not work again and phone will be once again locked to the network provider. Thank you for contacting HTC. I looked up the internet and did not find sufficient proof that indicates if the above is correct or not.... I guess they are not saying the truth ... So question is this... If the phone requires a hard reset ... and it has HSPL/2 right now on it ... Would this mean that the Sim Lock will be back? And the unlock code which I put in will be no longer valid? Personally I find all this a big load of crap .... Because if the IMEI does not change ... and the code is created via the IMEI ... I don't think it makes sense to say that the "unlock code will not work again and the Phone will be locked". But before I jump to any conclusions, I would like to hear the opinion of the clever guys out there ...
This email was interesting .... I wonder what's up in HTC's customer supports' minds ...

I guess HTC is only talking and can only talk about default ROMs, not custom roms, if you have hspl your device you will no longer get support from htc.... anyways, HSPL is not the same as sim unlocking your device, check the wiki pages.

I didn't make myself clear that must be it.....

I guess you didn't understand me .... I know that sim unlocking is not the same. The thing that bothered me was whether HTC is saying the truth aka
"Is it true that HARD RESETTING would make you LOSE the sim unlock code and it would never work again? Yes or no?"

once u unlock ur device to be used on another network and u change the radio or rom the device will still continue to be unlocked... i hav 2 devices 1 is the hd the other is the hd2 and both are unlocked and hav different roms and radios

I have a question regarding this too.
I've heard that TMobile US has a separate IMEI number than the one on the device on the back.
Is this true?
Now for unlocking it has been suggested that you get it from T-Mobile. If you don't, it will most likely fail to unlock.
Is that true?
And finally has anyone that unlocked their phone directly from T-Mobile hard- resetted their HD2?

if you bought the hd2 from Tmob "outright"..they will provide the unlock code
I have the Tmob provide code for my hd2, yes it worked and still worked after a hard reset

I DID not get my unlock code from T mobile directly. They said its a genuine unlock code ... but i did not attempt a hard reset yet. Is this hoax true????? That if you HARD RESET your phone your UNLOCK code is gone YES OR NO? I seem like i cannot get the message through .... Anyone HARD RESET his phone and got it sim locked again? And anyway it does not make sense to say that the unlock code wont work anymore because the IMEI remains the same ... so this is not really sounding like a true statement from htc .....but i want to hear of somebody who hard reset his phone and got his t mobile unlock code not through t mobile to make sure...... I will ask the people who helped me out with the unlock service and will get back to everyone with a confirmation ....
As for the other guy who said that T mobile have got a separate IMEI .... the answer is NO. They all have ONE IMEI.... the only thing I can confirm to you is that T mobile CHANGES the Unlock codes to a system of their own, hence a genuine htc unlock code WON't work on ANY T mobile flashed device...... and there is no need to get the unlock code from t mobile ... it would take you like 3 months if u ain't got a contract + they will force you to do a contract for a minimum period of 90 days.... a Huge f**k up considering that you might not even be on t mobile or worse still not even in the country . ....
There are good services out there ... mine took exactly 9 hours to get unlocked......from time of payment

Yeah, the reply you got made no sense... unlocking the phone out of a preset carrier is relative to the IMEI of that phone and not on the software status installed on there... as if a carrier was able to determine os/version of your phone upon connection and forbid access if they notice (?) you did a hard reset

Does that mean after u did the hard reset; the phone was locked again and u had to re-enter the unlock code??
I'm asking about that coz i bought my TMOUS HD2 already unlocked but the seller did not provide me with the unlock code!!
Does that mean that i have to buy the code to use it if i hard reset the device???

Along time ago i was here with some XDA's and over the years have done alot of phone unlocks,
But i have NO idea how to unlock his phone, Im guessing i need to flash the firmware and so on, and Update a Rom.
But i really need your help. Can somebody tell me how this is possible without paying for an Unlock Code.

have to buy a code or get one from your carrier using IMEI number...no other way...use the search function...many threads on this already...

there is no free unlock. youmust buy one. plenty of websites, or on ebay, selling unlock codes.

Unable to unlock AT&T X10a. Please help

Dear XDA devs,
I recently got X10a (locked to AT&T network and on 2.1 ROM) and this is what I tried to unlock the device so that I can use it on any network.
1. Loaded Generic UK ROM
2. used flasher to root the phone, edited build.prop and changed CDA code to "1235-2964" (Customized IN/Sensuous black).
3. ran SEUS update
But still the phone is locked.Is there any other way to unlock the phone or am I missing something here?

What you attempted to do was rebrand, not unlock. Sim unlock needs an unlock code, which is typically a paid service. However, AT&T is supposed to offer the code for free after 90 days.

Unlocking

I have a Telus Desire HD.
I used to have a Desire on Telus and was able to purchase an unlock code, worked 1st time.
I have had the Desire HD for about 2 months, want to unlock now.
I purchased unlock code from MobileinCanada, I have purchased unlocks codes in the past from them and they work fine.
The Desire HD I have tried on 4 attempts without success.
Question 1:
How many carrier unlock attempts can be done before device is bricked?
Question 2:
Do I have to root the device in order for carrier unlock to work?
I have already paid for the unlock, I would prefer not to root, any suggestions, I hope someone can answer question 1.
On the screen with the keypad, I get the following message "SIM service provider unlock PIN".
Does this mean the 8 digit unlock code will not work, do I have to input a telus code 1st

I think if you call Telus and tell them you're going to europe for a while, they can provide you with a working unlock code... They've been doing this for a few months now!

Thank You for the follow up, this looks like rooting the device, I do not want to root it, just want to unlock the carrier unlock

I think you have to wait 3 months plus pay $75, most of the unlocker sites are $25.
If the unlocker sites will not work, I may have to resort to calling Telus, I did pay for device outright vs 3yr.
Can you confirm if the fee from Telus is $75?

You can unroot it back and keep it unlocked by reflashing the original rom.

That is what i was going to say,
Root it run radio S-OFF then run the rru again job done.

If you are not on tmobile, ask someone on these forums who is to get an unlock code for you. You just have to give them your IMEI and wait for 24-48 hours.
I would do it for you but I only get one unlock every 90 days and I recently did one.

oh! I shud still get the phone.....estimated delivery date is august 24th. I heard there is something like we need to flash a SSPL and then it would be unlocked! I will give the IMEI as soon as i receive my phone! Please help me!!

SPL has NOTHING to do with carrier unlocking. You can do it stock if you want. Flash a different SPL if you want a custom ROM, WP7, or Android (without loading WM first).
carrier unlocking is done only by putting in a foreign SIM, then putting in the unlock code generated by tmobile.

SO now could you explain me clearly wht should i do to unlock it?? Can i just flash another SPL and then flash android and then i twill be unlocked???

Like I said, carrier unlocking has NOTHING to do with your SPL or which OS you have flashed. It is done with the unlock code generated by T-Mobile. They will do it for free for anyone who has an account with them and has not unlocked a device for 90 days or more (which is why I can't help out).
I'm sure someone in these forums would be willing to help you out.
