Just saw a tweet from DLife about an improved Froyo 2.2. Anyone try it yet? I'm not sure I want to do a wipe if its not really that much improved.
EDIT: link http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/02/download-new-android-2-2-droid-incredible-build/
EDIT EDIT: My recommendation is that you don't use this build. It lacks the stock wallpapers except for the red swirl. It lacks the stock ringtones, AND I'm not sure it even has Flash 10.1. Some sites don't seem to work now that I installed it and I'm reinstalling the previous 2.2 leak instead of this one.

Im steering clear from it. I have made a stable ROM based off the first leak, used skyraider2, amd used the leak itself, amd there is nothong wrong with the firsf.

So far I agree.... Not worth wiping out everything I've done with the first leak! Unless someone can convince me otherwise.
I do have one question though.... Shouldn't there be some way to update the first leak with a new version in the future without wiping the phone? They should have mostly all the same base right?

I'd be more than happy to keep doing "upgrades" if that was the way it worked but these really aren't upgrades; they're new installs. Wiping each time is painful.

+100. I've worked out all the bugs that affect my daily usage: 3g hotspot working, no 0's on my Gmail, still pulling 1250-1300+ on Quadrant, market/browser work beautifully. I'll need to see some solid improvements/benchmarks to make it "worth" switching.
Though for posterity's sake, for those concerned about wiping, since it's a 2.2 -> 2.2, I would think a proper titanium restore would work without much issue, app-wise.
Opposite
I am the opposite ... I see no reason to apply a beta radio and a beta pre-release (even one from yesterday) at this point, especially if its going to be a pain in the butt due to radio reflash and app reinstall. Would just as soon wait in hopes that unrEVOked can root the real OTA. Would MUCH rather go thru the pain and effort (and danger) using VZW's release.
Have you gotten Ti backup to work with 2.2? I had issues. It worked to restore my apps from 2.1, but since switching to 2.2 I could do a backup. I remember there being some issue but not what it was. I haven't tried again since.
As for the upgrade, I'm only using the stock Froyo rom and I've found some bugs in it when using Seesmic and Astro amongst others. I think they need to upgrade for 2.2 compatibility before I upgrade the rom.

Just installed the latest ota. All if well. No problems like the last rom. No lame patches and bugfixes neccessary. Works good. Titanium backuped everything fine. Took me 5 minutes after full wipe to have all my stuff back to normal.
None?
Check your paid market apps and make sure they all show up

Did you do a "Backup all user apps + system data" and then "Restore missing apps + all system data" or did you just do apps? I'm new to best practices of Titanium Backup... Thanks!
I just do app+app data. No system crap...it isn't that hard for me to add the 4 icons and clock to the screen and setup some ringer preferences...even with all that it took me 5 minutes. Some people may have insane screens full of widgets and apps...mines pretty simple. Also I already fixed my build.prop Plus I only have 2 paid apps...titanium and phonemypc and I already pulled the apks from my phone to install manually without the market anyway. So I dunno.

Well, see?
You had to do a lame fix
Damn. I'd have to go back in and remove all of the bloatware, reinstall all of my apps, and everything else. Not sure I'm up for a minor fix.
Just installed it.. I have to say.. its THE BEST ota leak so far. It's far more stable than the first leak... and it seems like it doesn't drain the battery as much..
Most recent ota leak is a nice improvement over first 2.2 leak. And yeah all you guys saying full wipe is painful.... titanium backup is awesome and can have you back from a full wipe with everything restored and intact within minutes. This 2.2 is faster, fixes most of the problems of the first leak (yes market still needs the fix... so what? Easy easy fix....) and imo is very much worth the upgrade. But seriously only once you know how to extract the most from titanium....
I am more than happy to help anyone with advice on titanium usage or whatever.... pm if you have questions or need help

I've got it down to about a half hour doing a Titanium restore. I just use that to restore the apps and the data.
What takes most of the time is getting the screens set up again.
Still seem to have problems with the Market however... intermittent freezing, hangs on "downloading", etc.

Everyone seems to report okay with it...but with drod2169 doing so much with 2.2.1 already I'm gonna stick with that. Also I am testing his new beta and ROM bootstraps automatically on every boot and more coolness to come so I will stick with rubiX focused for now
Is non-oem battery behavior any different???
With the FROYO update, the Droid X no longer recognized aftermarket batteries for whatever reason. Could someone who has flashed this update check and see if aftermarket batteries are recognized with it, or do we still get the '?' in the battery notification area?
Thanks
Not sure if I could live without LCD density at this point. I am gonna wait and watch developments.
so what all changes are in this? and what makes it worth jumping the ball?
If you want a changelog you will have to contact motorola. Otherwise it is supposedly just a faster build and random reboot issues fixed.
ok. well im guessing rubix would work as its same build set up? im tempted to put the leak in as it fixes some of the problems im having but not sure about not having an $BF full to revert back to, just incase i somehow f up on something. i can't afford to brick my only phone lol.
Will this work if I have Fission 2.1 installed? Or would it just delete my custom tom and bring me to a stock 2.2.1?

Okay I would say that this is probably the official OTA update that everyone is awaiting... The kernel is updated which is going to be the greatest advantage with this release...
Media Fix
Im pretty sure that the "sorry this player does not support..." has been fixed in this update... I use my DX as my primary mp3 player atleast 8 times a day and so that old bug would force me to restart 1 or 2 times daily... been running the new release for over 24 hours and I've yet to get the error (using it heavily and testing the music often aswell...)
Updated System Apps
The only thing ive noticed with these so far is a new Data usage widget built in to blur (now that we dont need unlimited data plans...)
Also the dialer now displays the most recent dialed or missed call just above the number keys...
Battery manager Fix
So the battery manager force close seems to have been fixed... I think this was an issue with the app and not the kernel... the reason i say this is because ive been checking to see that the battery stats non stop (maybe 100 times now) in different scenarios (fresh boot, fresh unplug, etc...) and i have only gotten one force close... I was running the 2.2 NexThemed Systems apk at this point... I imediately reinstalled the 2.2.1 setting apk and without needing to restart my phone the battery stats were fixed.
This issue then would not need u to flash the new release to fix for now... you can probably temporarily fix it on the old 2.2 kernel just by running the 2.2.1 app... (maybe people running the 2.2.1 fission can confirm this...
These are the big things i have noticed so far... I can not confirm the HDMI kernel fix though because i have not yet tested it and even when I was running the old kernel I seldom used the feature and When i did it never gave me any issues...
Hope this helps and I'd be very interested to hear about anything else people have noticed!

My daughter has the EVO Shift. Have there been any problems with the new OTA Gingerbread update? Pro's and con's versus stock? I don't care to root her's because she doesn't really care. I like my rooted Evo4g though.
If you could careless about root then I would definitely say to take the ota update. What you'll get is an updated sense (which is pretty nice looking), new radios for wimax, and most importantly updated to gingerbread. I tried the rooted version of the new update and I like it but it doesn't really compare to custom roms so I didn't stick to it.
So basically stock 2.2 versus ota 2.3, I would say take the ota.
Some people, me included, are having problems after the update where every time you exit from an app you go to the white HTC and then it takes 10 seconds to refresh the home screen. This is very annoying. I called Sprint and there was two fixes. One to increase the size of my internal memory by clearing some files and moving apps to my SD card. The second fix was try sent me an OTA fix which was a fancy name for a refresh. All seems to be working now.
I am using the standard ROM

issues
for me i have a lot of bugs in the rom. i found a lot of apps and the OS to lock up from time to time and not work properly. i end up rebooting the rom to get it to work again.
NO ROOT ACESSS on this rom so if your like me your stuck with a crappy rom until a fix comes out.
I'm quite happy with the update other than the lack of root. No problems at all. So, if root isn't important to you, i really see no reason to not update.
So I've searched and everyone seems to say that the OTA updates are stored in the cache folder. I've looked there and don't see it (there's nothing at all in the cache folder).
I've been on Froyo with Syndicate Frozen ROM and am quite happy with things as they are. But my phone decided to automatically download the new update and it's been bugging me about installing it.
I've since blocked the SystemUpdate.apk and it doesn't bother me every 15 minutes like it used to, but when I reboot the phone it still tells me that it's been downloaded and is ready to install.
I don't suppose it's that big of a deal to just disregard the message on the rare occasion of a reboot, but still.. I'd like to delete the file from wherever it's been stored so it never bothers me about it again.
I'm using Adao File Manager if it matters. I'll try root explorer if I have to, but just don't like needlessly installing apps.
Thanks =)

I used Gemini App Manager (it's free in the market). You have to enable USB debugging for a while while you do this. Download it, open it, menu>Expert Mode, scroll down to system update, long press, block app.
You can do something similar with Titanium if you have it, but Gemini is free in the market.
Like I said, it hasn't been bugging me every 15 minutes like it used to, so this is decent solution for the time being, but every time I restart it bugs me about it again. I'd prefer to delete it so I don't have to worry about accidentally pressing okay.
I haven't actually blocked/frozen it yet, it takes me half a second to hit install later but I'm thinking about freezing it. And I get the feeling there may be a gb rom worth flashing in a few days (keeping an eye on you starsky for that theme =P).
EDIT: oh I heard the ota may also be in data/cache
EDIT 2.0: my update is sitting right in /cache
Apparently Adeo doesn't see the update. I installed Root Explorer, found and removed the update. Still pops up on every reboot. Very annoying. =\
I'm tempted to make a nandroid backup and press install just to see what happens.
So I'm currently running a clean EC07 ROM, downloaded from the dev section of our forum. I originally was using Miunia and loved it, up until the FCing became just ridiculous and my home screen would act weird. So, about 2 weeks ago, I flashed the clean EC07 in the hopes of solving these issues.
A few FCs still occur, but not as often as when I had Miunia, so I'm willing to overlook that. My main concern now is the home screen issue. Basically, whenever I back out of an app that I've been using for a while (like 5 minutes or longer), my home screen will appear completely blank, and I have to wait almost 5 seconds for everything to reappear on my home screens. I only have 3 home screens, and mostly app shortcuts, along with a weather widget, flashlight, and screen filter.
I understand that this probably looks foolish, considering how short the wait time appears to be. But I don't understand why my phone does it. My phone started doing this after Miunia; I have no idea if the cause stems from that or some other issue. Either way, I was hoping someone could help me figure out why and how to solve it.
I thought it might have something to do with RAM, since our phone only has like 338 MB. My phone usually sits with about 80-90 MB of free RAM on average. Not sure if this is normal, but that's how it is consistently. If you guys need more info to help me out, please ask! I'll give you any info you need.
Thanks!

I was using Touchwiz. Just switched to Zeam yesterday to see if it would help. Still happening.
OK. let me ask you this. Is there any reason you seem to be hellbent on 07, as opposed to moving to 09? I used to have that same issue with anything but go launcher, on 07. I'm on 09, now, running tw and the only time it has to reload (what is happening is it's being cleared out of cache to make room for other apps) is when I play draw something.
My solution to you, would be to back up your apps, any texts you want, and make sure your contacts are synced with google, then revert to dl17 stock, ota the ec09 update, then move to one of the ec09 prerooted roms, be it ciscogees (you'd have to debloat that one yourself) or one of Pat's, which are debloated already, and his debellaire has Trailblazers mods incorporated, already.
Lol. I'm not hellbent on staying on EC07. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of DL17 to EC09 to rooted EC09. Seemed too cumbersome a process. I also don't know the difference between EC07 and EC09 so I didn't see any advantages in going through that process.
Which specific ROM are you currently running? It sounds like you have minimal problems and that's exactly what I want.

First, the process sounds a lot more cumbersome than it is. The whole thing (once I had the files) took me about 30 minutes, including the ota. Second, 07 was a good rom, for a leak. But, it was still a leak, with all the bugs associated with it. A lot of those bugs, including your memory issues, were fixed with 09. I'd recommend the ota route. But, if you can't/don't want to go that way, there are options. Abby has a full package, and trailblazer extracted the update files. I'm on my own rom. But it is pretty much identical to ciscogee's rom. They were made with the same method (hence the reason I never posted mine). If you want it, I'll crate a post linking it. If not, go with one of the three I mentioned. And, if you want help doing this, I'll be glad to work with you.

Okay. You've convinced me. So my first step is to flash stock DL17 from the forum, do the OTA, then flash a prerooted EC09? I don't care about my apps, I can just redownload and install them. Most of that data's in the cloud anyways. Contacts are fine with Verizon's Wireless Assistant. Pictures are on my SD card. But how can I save my texts? Is there a specific app you recommend?

Sms backup. Search that on market, or play, or whatever the hell they wanna cal it. That is what I use (blue icon). Run it, and you'll be good. If you dont want the hassle of downloading all your apps again, the app manager section of rom toolbox, or titanium backup are both good. Choose "app + data" on the options, and you won't have to reenter account data, or redo preferences.

I wanted to minimize the odds of having problems, so I went back to stock DL17, let it do the OTA update, used SuperOneClick to root, flashed a deodexed EC09 (section 3, whatever ROM was linked) and finally used Titanium Backup to debloat.
It was a very clear guide. No room for error. Well written!

Like an intelligent flashaholic, when I first rooted my phone, waaaaaaay back over 2 years ago, the firs thing I did was make a backup of my stock/rooted setup, then saved a copy on my computer. Every few months, I'll nandroid back, update any apps that need to be, then make a new, updated Backup.
Lately, I've been having a lot of problems with my phone, trying to run Jellybean ROMS, which has been a disaster. Even ruinning Kendall's Jellybread ROM, I have some issues with lagginess, occasional Force Closes, etc.
Yesterday morning, my phone was basically not usable, and not having time to play with anything because of work, I just flashed back to my stock/rooted ROM, updated it and have been running pure stock since. The weird thing is, it's the best my phone has run. Smooth, fast, everything working (Of course this is still Froyo, but still). It's just really ugly as hell, but it's amazing how smooth everything is.

I think if the stock ROM wasn't so ugly, then we'd have no use for customized ROMs. It's one of those things that allows us geeks to shine...
You know I have never even seen the stock froyo rom. Evo had already upgraded to gingerbread by the time I got mine. Maybe you could let me try out your stock froyo rom? ROFLMFAO!!!!!!! Heck maybe someone out here has a cupcake or donught I could use also. Then we could have a retro rom.

OK, time to flash a ROM.....

Hey hip, got a suggestion for your next flash.
Do your backup thing, wipe as usual, then flash rom.
Only this time before you reboot, push your log to sd. Then view it after everything is done...
Reason im saying this is mine would be fine then not...when I pulled the log fron recovery it actually showed that I had bad memory blocks an it was unable to repair/format/fix them..
Now my phone was and is usable still...but I cant flash all the roms. Only one that 100% worked was mazwoz.
So its just a thought bro, figured I'd share what I found. And without pulling the log I would have never seen it.

I pull the log most of the time myself and I also have bad blocks in multiple partitions. I have yet to have it cause any issues with any of the roms I flash. Also can I help you take over the world?!! Love me some pinky and the brain.

Lol, sometimes I forget that signature is there cuz I cant see it on Tapatalk. One of the Nocturnal guys made that for me.
Anyway, the roms would mostly flash on my phone. But some just didn't. I was testing rom for soap, tronit, an shaggy an none booted for me but worked fine for others.
Then I flashed say jmz rom an it worked fine. I started to notice that things weren't working.

Thanks. I was actually very concerned, but running the Hybrid MIUI we're releasing and it's fast as hell
Yes I mostly use the app so I don't get to see the cool signatures. Since I started doing the dev work I am on the PC more and must say there are a bunch of cool ones out now.

Heck if you think it is fast now just wait I have a couple more tricks left to pull out my hat. You ever run an odexed miui? Yes I will release a first ever (that I know of) odexed miui rom. This thing is crazy fast and get this all the apps that I preinstall will also be odexed so it will rocket like you have never seen. Just stand back and be amazed at the fastest miui to ever grace the og evo!!

Are MIUI mtz's universal or device specific?
I they are universal. I have some on my pc that i used on both the og and 3vo that my ex gf had.
FYI I dumped the preinstalled ics theme. So now any theme will install for the die hard miui user and the black ice mtz will be installed on the sdcard. The jb launcher is no longer default you can choose on boot which one you want. Now to get the ICS effect you go into settings themes and choose black ice. If you use the jb launcher you will need to go under launcher settings and reboot launcher. Now everything looks ics even the lockscreen.
