I added my facebook and twitter account in settings->account and sync
and processed an synchronization in success (the sync icon is in green color)
In Contact, display option , I uncheck "only contacts with phones",
but my facebook and twitter contacts don't show up in my Contact , so I cannot link up with my phone contacts.
try this for Facebook
Go to Contact -> Submenu -> Get Friends -> (you should see your facebook account here, else add yours), tap on the account and select your friends.
PS: if this is your time time doing it, the application may ask you if you want to sync selected or all contact to your phone.
Let me know if this help.
PPS: if this works for your FB, you can use it for Twitter.

there are contacts from facebook, but no picture, so I was thinking that there is a setting that takes little info, or takes birthdays, tel. numbers, pictures.
in my case, picture, birthday, email, tel are all available in my FB contact.
Is it possible your friend didn't upload photo in their FB?

I found that its much easier to use the Facebook and twitter from the Market than the Sync's on the phone.
Just download both Twitter and Facebook from the Market and then sync those in Accounts&Sync.
Simply don't use the default ones on the Galaxy

Just tried this one.
It works but it adds the contacts 2-3 times and no pictures...
It sais to me: Sync is currently expecting problems. It will be back soon.
However, it does not look like it will be any soon
If I use Market FB application for sync, it adds friends but without pictures.
I saw this problem mentioned in czech android forum, they are having the same problem since friday. So I think its some server related problem which will be fixed soon.

i synchronized yesterday with the stock app and everything is OK, all contacts with pictures....
I am having the same problem.
Calender sync. seems to work.
contacts not worked for several days.
However, it is strange that not everyone has these problems.
I can also synchronize everything but contacts (History and Activities are working)
Maybe its depending on the ROM you have installed. The European Version seems to have the problem, that syncing Facebook contacts is not possible, without installing the facebook app. But if you cync with the app, you have the problem, that the number of linked people is rising with the reboots you are doing....

So for me, with JF3 Rom and kernel-version 2.6.29 its not possible to sync with facebook...

Worked until yesterday on JM5 with Samset 1.9b.
But after I reflashed it i can't sync. Same ROM and all.. strange.
I remember on my old HTC Magic, i could sync my contacts to their facebook pages, i cant seem to do this on my SGS although i can sync my facebook contacts to my phonebook...
Any idea's?
The problem suddenly arose for me too just the other day. Then I had JM2, no root or other fixes.
Now I'm sitting on JM5 + SamSet 1.9b + lag fix and the problem is still there. I'm just assuming that there are some sever issues atm. I'm from sweden so the theory that it is european-related still holds.

Yeah must be something server related.
Tried removing the Samsung Mobile app from facebook and letting it install again. But did´t help either.
Same problem for me, even with the stock JF3 firmware. Now I'm on JM5 and still the same. I hope either FB or Samsung are aware of the issue and are trying to fix it.

I had the same issue and fixed it two or three days ago.
It seems the sync in the new 1.3.1 app from the market has issues (probably just with SGS) but can sync contacts (sometimes repeatedly) without any other data like pics. I tried to resolve this several times using the new 1.3.1 version and failed. To resolve my problem I had to:
1. Remove the Facebook account sync entries in Settings > Accounts and Sync > section
2. Uninstall Facebook app 1.3.1
3. Manually add the SGS inbuilt Facebook sync and resync contacts (getting pics etc back)
4. Reinstall Facebook app 1.3.1 from the market, and go through the sign-in wizard, saying 'don't sync' at when questioned.
Now using downloaded app, with inbuilt sync client and it seems to be fine.
PS: The older inbuilt client uses a brighter blue icon with rounder edges and graduated colour - this way you can tell which is which in the account sync area.

Anyone know how to remove the T-Mobile Sync option? When ever I add a new contact it adds it to T-Mobile sync and not to google.
You are talking about two different things:
1. saving new contacts to t-mobile account is default, you cannot change that. But before you save your contact you can choose from a pull down menu to save it in your google account. Next time you add another contact it defaults to t-mobile again. It sucks and is the only things that really bothers me.
2.syncing with t-mobile account...your t-mobile contacts are synced with the t-mobile server....you can stop the syncing by going to the account and sync menu. you can stop the syncing but you cannot remove the t-mobile account completely.

as am i, hopefully someone finds the service or .apk name for that because if someone who rooted the phone and wants to use it on a diff carrier doesnt need that sync account in there.

Now I found a way and just did it on my MT4G. Grab root explorer or similar if you don't have it. Open it and use the search for "nab" anything that comes up I.E. that says tmobile.nabservice blah blah blah. There was like 4-5 files for me one zip, obex, and a few others delete em all then your done. The Tmobile sync account is gone and the default contact save is the first account you set up for in sync.
How do you know it automatically saves it to your "tmobile" account? because i have auto sync unchecked for tmobile, and when i go into the settings for my contacts i have everything unchecked except google contacts...but under tmobile contacts it says ZERO

You know it's adding to T-Mobile, because when you go to add a new contact, T-Mobile is the default...

This gets T-Mobile out of the list of Contact Types, but now Phone is the default - not the Google account I wish to be the default. I wanted to see if those who have deleted all traces of Nab, have Phone as a Contact Type and if it is the default.
How strange, in my case it saves by default to my Google account every time I create a new contact. Check your display settings.

Slow reply sorry for me my default contact save is the first gmail account i added. not sure what it would be if u didn't have a sync account besides t-mobiles sync but id assume it would be phone until u add a google account.
Is there a way to copy all my phone contacts to my SIMcard?
Under settings all I see is import and export, no copy all contacts to SIM.
Not a way to do that but you do have SD card and gmail.

You can't do it in bulk but you can save individual contact numbers to your SIM.
Open the contact you want to save, hit the menu>more>save to SIM.

Yeah, unfortunately that's the way it is for now. One at a time.
FYI though; if you setup all your contacts in Gmail you will never lose them and all you have to do is sync with that account and your contacts are there.
also you can sync them to tmobile.

well, does this really work? i was trying to sync my phone contacts with my gmail account; doesn't seem to work. The phone syncs google contacts with the phone fine, but this does not work vice versa. I linked phone contacts with google contacts; still, when i login to my gmail from my computer, my gmail contacts have not been synced to include phone numbers as well.

See if this works.
Contacts>settings>import/export>export to SD card>choice of SIM, phone or tmo
After that hook the phone up to your computer via USB and select disk drive
Gmail>contacts>more actions>import>select CSV file off phone.
I haven't done this myself because I don't want to sync my contacts with Gmail.
But let me know if it works.

I've got a MT4G running 2.3.4, Virtuous Unity v2.39.0 and for some reason, my contacts are out of control... I've got my SIM contacts, phone, exchange, gmail, and facebook, and they all link correctly, etc... but on the ones that I've had on previous devices, or have been there when I've synced, they don't skip or replace them, they just keep piling up... like, 38 entries per contact, with the same number... if I go in and manually remove the #'s, hit save, and re-open it, there are 37 blank fields for "phone" w/the one saved entry... is there any way to either save one per contact, delete all of them, and start over? this is a pain in the ass...

There are 2 ways to do this either go to your gmail account online and open contacts and delete all the duplicate contacts and log out from your phone g mail and re log in and your set
The other way is the phone will tell u that u have duplicate contacts and if you want to sync them together

they're all linked together, say if I go to "MULTISTATE TRANS" there is only one entry in my contacts, but when I open THE contact, there are 38 entries w/the same phone number, and if I type in "MU-" to send a text/call the entire predictive list all says "MULTISTATE TRANS"

Thanks... I tried that app, it deleted contacts that weren't duplicates... I ended up exporting all contacts to my SD, uploading the vcards to my gmail on my computer, then used it to sort and delete the dupes... Then I saved it as a new vcard, erased allllllll contacts, then imported... Pain in the ass, but it was the only thing that worked...

I haven't yet, but I'll be sure to email them. By the time all of the vcard's had uploaded to gmail and such, there were 5800+ contacts on there, and when I got rid of allllllll of the duplicates, I took it down to about 300 actual contacts. I still have no idea why/how it kept importing the existing vcard's from the SD/SIM/phone or w/e, but it was crazy.
Is anyone having Google Sync issues today?
I just reinstalled AOKP 4.3 and installed calendar but it's not even showing up and in the Account Settings it says google sync error.
Is it a bad gapps?

Gmail doesn't sync in the background. Same thing with Calendar and all Google apps. I have auto-sync enabled for all accounts. Sync enabled for the gmail account. I have to manually open Gmail and sync. It's getting very annoying. I want to delete my Google account and re-add it, but can't figure out how to do it. There is no way to delete the primary Google account on stock. There is no Menu on the Google account
Edit: Found it! It's not on the Google Account page. From the Google Account screen, I had to press the Sync screen. That screen has a menu from where I could delete the account. Now let's see if it helps.
Edit2: So I deleted the Google Account, deleted the data in Gmail, all the syncs, Google Play Services etc. Shutdown the phone. Went to Google Accounts on the web and removed access for the G2 on the web. Then restarted the phone. Added my account again. No Luck. Sync still doesn't work in the background
