Anyone else experiencing excessive battery drain on their HD2?
I am interested to know if this is just my phone or if it actually just chews through that much juice.
I have had windows mobile phones for several years so I know all the basic ways to keep battery drain down.
Stuff that I have generally found:
1. If I keep the screen turned on without it going blank I lose about 1% every 2 minutes.
2. If I am browsing that figure almost doubles.
3. My old Touch HD used about 5% battery overnight when in standby but this phone will go through about 25%.
4. The phone gets really hot when browsing (much hotter than my old Touch HD)
I have tried flashing ROM's and Radios but nothing seems to help.
I am not running any software on the phone that I wasn't running on my old HD1.
I have only had the phone for a week so I am not sure if this is normal but I would be very surprised if HTC released a phone that lasts for only a few hours on one battery.

I wish I got 2 days
we really need extended battery ,hd1 battery was much more better.
Good mate but yes i agreee HTC has come up with a battery eating device this time around. My device on full charge just gives in around 8-10 hrs. This might be dat my EDGE is on and 7 mails accounts sending mails back and forth.
but truly i think that HTC better look into this very seriously cause more and more ppl are suffering in this battery drain..
Any of flashing roms and radio not helping either... did a complete hard reset but no step up
HTC come with longer battery battery for bigger devices soon......
The only solution i see now is get one of those extra battery worth mind bogling £52.87
I've had this problem ever since flashing to 1.66, I flashed the radio to 2.07.50.27 as this was said to solve the problem but it hasn't made any difference after a few days of use. My battery life used to be significantly better when I was on the original stock ROM, so much so I'm considering going back to it
I also know all the tricks as to clawing back the battery drain, my phone is idle on my desk at work most of the time and I don't use Wi-Fi, all the location stuff is turned off as are weather, stock and other updates plus my screen is set to 30% then off after 60 seconds. Despite all of that I lose 1% every 2-3 minutes
It seems to me that perhaps the radio is checking for reception pretty much constantly rather than say, 5-10 mins perhaps? This used to be a problem on my old Blackberry Storm but a few fimware updates solved it, eventually!
The only other thing I've noticed since the update is that once the battery drops below 50% or so, the drain seems to slow, I don't know if this is perhaps because the phone goes into some sort of semi-power saving mode?
Suggestions/hints welcome! I've had a semi-thorough look into this on the forums and tried most of the suggestions but still the problem remains. Will battery life improve after a few charges perhaps as this was a trait of my Storm's battery, the more you charged it the better the day to day battery life was (and no it wasn't because I had it plugged in all the time! Over time the general charge just seemed to improve when roaming).
Thanks!

You need to indicate what services you have running. Do you have any data services running eg: location services, push mail, weather? all of these have a bearing. In addition, network services can also drain a battery, especially if the signal is weak and the phone have to search for a transmitter, or 3g services.

That is a very interesting comment. Although since upgrading to radio 2.07.51.05_2 I have had very good battery life, I too have noticed a slowdown after 50%

Nothing is turned on, everything is set to manual.
As I stated I know all the basic stuff. I understand that all these things have a bearing on battery loss.
Everything I stated in the first post is for when I have nothing running. The phone is just sitting there running sense, thats all.
I have had my HD2 for a few days now. I am on Vodacom in South Africa.
I have not had a problem with battery life.
Yesterday i unplugged from the charger at 07:00. I spent about 1 and 1/2 hours of talk time on the phone, it was permanently connected to 3g doing weather updates etc. Sent and received a couple of sms's. Also played with a few tweaks and reboots.
When i got home at about 18:00 i had over 30% battery. I then surfed the web for over 2 hours to drain the battery.
try setting Network Selection to Manual

Same here with and without stock ROM.
yeah.. the phone is a battery sucker.... another cons of HD2....
This is very interesting to read because I do not have this problem. When I left my HTC HD2 on last night (I woke up at 4 in the morning to get something to drink and unplugged it) and then woke up at 8, it was at 98%. That means it went from 100% to 98% in 4 hours. Not to bad imo.
I am now at work and it is 15:34, and I am at 87%. I have made some calls, watched some videos, send a few text messages. Not much (I am at work so I got other things to do). So 08:00 (98%) - 15:34 (87%) - that's 7 and a half hours, with some calls, text messages and a video.
I am pretty sure when I get home at 18:30 the battery will still be above 75%. Then I connect to my wifi at home, refresh twitter, weather, browse the web a little bit, check e-mail etc. So that will drain my battery a little more.
But overall I have not had any problems with my battery life. I always make it trough a day, and never have a problem like 'damn my battery is almost done and I am not near a charger'.
Some info that might help:
I do not sync ANYTHING automatically. I still have some things to do with my Vodafone contract and do not have an unlimited plan yet. I only sync at home on my own wifi connection. For me this is not a problem, because I only need to refresh the weather each morning to see what the day is going to be like. Twitter I only do when I have the time. Stocks I do not use.
I have screen brightness set to automatic.
I am on 3G most of the time.
I am running the official 1.66 Dutch ROM.
I have some tweaks, games and programs installed.
I hope you all solve this issue, because it just can not be that my HD2 has a good battery life, and your HD2 not
Kind Regards
EDIT @ 17:00 still 87%.
I am in a 3G 2100 only network (I don't have 2G functionality).
ROM: Artemis 3.0
Radio: 2.06.50.23_3
Customization: Seiya 6.5.5
I don't leave any automatic updates on, except for my e-mail account every 2 hrs.
I never close my connection.
The drainage overnight is -3% (8hrs).
The battery lasts at least 12 hrs of intense usage.
Normally I have to recharge every second day (e.g. I charged last night, I answered a few calls, I did some IM and browsing and I still have 73% left).
For a phone with a 1 GHz processor, a 4.3" screen and a tiny 1250 mAh battery I find the drainage is rather decent.
Mind you, I ALWAYS do at least one full charging cycle to my battery after flashing a new ROM. I mean: full discharge, battery out 1 min, full charging in OFF mode, battery out 2 mins.

I have seen this process recommended a couple of times now. What is the theory behind it if you don't mind me asking?
maybe its also becouse some of us couldnt wait using the hd2 when they got it (like me) before it was fully charged for the first time
anyway my battery life has improved a little bit, i was at 74% this morning and did a lot of browsing, installing, tweaking and now its at 3%. it used to be much worse
I have battery consuming problem from time to time.I did everything:
installed new stock rom 1.66;
transfered all data which phone is using from card to phone memory(pictures,icons,sounds.etc...)
all updates are done manually;
Gprs connection is swiched off on the idle after one min;
One night it is loosing from 2 to 4%;
another from 30 to 40%
and it is eating memory from 10 to 15mb
I think that it is radio which is causing battery drainage so fast(to much communication wit a base stations, because when I am checking spb wireless monitor in the morning, there is no any data traffic.
I hope they can solve problem, because it is getting me mad and crazy
Try setting the screen brightness to 10-20% (on battery powered)
and dim backlight after 10 seconds (on batter powered).
It helps a lot, at least for me.

as far as i know, the battery has an integrated digital circuit (ic) which estimates the state-of-charge (soc). the procedure resets/calibrates the ic to obtain a more accurate estimation. since the radio rom is in charge with the power management (among other things), by changing it you decalibrate the "gauge".
i don't know if i've got the theory right but i tested this myself and it surely works.
Hi Guys! and Gals..
Wondering hows your battery life?? Can you make it through a day Ok? I have a touch pro on Sprint and battery life stinks in the worse way.
Last time I checked, it went 13hrs until 31%.
I usually use it for around 90minutes continously reading or web browsing during my commute. There is also 4-5hrs (or more daily) during which I only get 1-2bars of receptions, so it drains battery faster. There was probably also a 30-40minute phone call using bluetooth.
I can go an 10-12 hour day with light use:
45 mins of phone and text (no bluetooth)
20 mins phone (bluetooth)
30 mins misc.
30 mins games.
20 texts.
Data on about 8 hours without Wifi and 4 on (N enabled)
1 hour browsing, emails etc.
30 mins with Microsoft Reader.
Probably a little more.
Also syncing a lot with calendars.
Not bad, but I feel like it could be better.
t-mobile usa.
I have 75% by end of the day
Adjust your PEAK TIMES for ActiveSync, that way your device isn't consistently trying to allocate resources to collect data such as emails.
Screen brightness, system volume, hibernating times, etc.
ALL OF THOSE are key factors in how quickly your battery will be drained. Anything involving the on-screen display is what will quickly deplete available battery life on a single charge. That may seem very "cliche" to say, but the fact is, this device has a 4.3-inch screen, so it's a power hog.
For today, it's been 17.5hrs since I unplugged and the phone has been mostly sitting except for a few occasional brief checks of the phone, 30minute email syncs, and a 15 minute phone call. It's at 40% battery after the 17.5hrs.
It did drop around 20% in the first 6hrs since the phone was in an area of horrible 0-1 bar reception. The rest of the time has been 2-3 bar reception.
17.5 hours @ 40%... are you serious?
My TMOUS HD2 has never gone more than 8 hours on a full battery charge. This is with "normal" usage. Regular email checks, activesync with direct push.
Comming from the Blackberry Bold II with 13-15 hours of battery under normal usage patters, the HD2 is VERY WEAK!!!.
I'm contemplating sacraficing the sleak look of the phone for the extended battery.
Anyone have the ex battery? How's your battery life?

If you need direct push in your life, then I suggest changing 3G to EDGE network.
Difference is quite noticeable.
It sucks, and if you want better battery life don't use it.I returned mine after 48hrs.
All the advice is great,but....
-If I have go from 3G to EDGE.
-Lower the brightness almost to the minimum.
-Set activesync up.....What is the point of having so much technology? if I can not use because the phone dies.
I need real time email and 3G to work, plus all the stupid menus that windows mobile still has made me change my mind.Microsoft has been in the market for a bunch of years and winmo still sucks.
Do not get to impressed with the HD and the movies, cause the thing dies in no time.
Don't buy it and stick with android.
I end the day with about 60% battery life left with mild-medium usage. A few phone calls, some maps/gps, active sync every 4 hours, facebook every 2 hours, weather every 3 hours.
VERY happy with battery life on this phone
i went all day yesterday (my first day with it) so i used it alot, took it of the charger, at 7:30am, and plugged it in last night at 10:00 and it was at 39%. that was BEFORE i turned off 3g(i dont get 3g in my area) so this hd2 blows the iphone battery out of the water....IMHO
my last device was blackberry 8900.
that thing lasted 3 days with moderate use. compared to that, 15 hour limit does suck, and there are times I don't want to use the phone to conserve the battery, which makes rage, but oh well. now I always carry an extra battery in my pocket, so that's a bit better. but that doesn't make it okay.
with the 3g off, wifi off, auto back light, running the energy rom apr 9. unplug on 9 am use about 100 sms and 10 minutes phone call with all the auto data off, just manual check weather and email twice still have 80% after 3pm.
turn off voice commends - this will help
Its getting better
I have recently done a few things to help the battery. I adjusted the the screen brightness to a comperable setting that a friend of mine has his set to on his iphone3gs I did not do anything to the 3g settings or anything like that. I set me email to sync every 4 hours. But my hotmail I just click send/receive and sync it myself. I play music all day on my phone. Check twitter internet facebooks while music is playing and a lot of texting over a hundred sent and recieved daily. Before I made a few tweeks it would kinda die quickly but now it appears to be a lot better.
My batter DOES NOT LAST FOR CRAP!!!!! I took it off charge at 8:13 and at 10:30 i checked my phone, it went from 100 percent to 81 percent. HOW DOES IT GO DOWN 19 percent in 2 hours when i didnt even USE the phone, i just hit the backlight to check the time, this battery is unacceptable everytime i check the phone the percent has dropped

Do you leave 3G turned on? Do you have your e-mail and/or weather checking themselves automatically?
The phone can certainly be doing things that consume the battery, even if you're not manually handling it at the time.
I don't understand why battery life seems to differ so much from phone to phone. My battery life is excellent and I use it a lot. I do have to charge it every night but I expect that from a smartphone. It always lasts me throughout the day with music, videos, calls, texts and web use on 3g. I couldn't be happier with the battery life of my phone.
PLEASE give me good tips how to save battery? BTW im using ENERGY's latest rom with cookie 1.7. i dont understand why i have to stop my email and turn off 3g when this phone is MEANT for these features. theres no point of a having an excellant phone when you cant use its features to its full potentiol without having it die within 10 hours( with moderate use)
Battery is weird
The other day i charged my hd2 fully then got on an airplane all connections were watch from paris with love which looks great on the phone landed after an hour and a half and my battery life was down to 15 percent i think i might have a bad battery when i am in the car i leave it on the charge and when i am in the hotels that i stay in it stays on the charge or plugged into my laptop and thoughts??
Fully charged my phone night before last and went to work in the morning (9am). I didn't touch it all day, didn't even turn it on. On my drive home at 5pm it was dead, off.
I plugged it in with the phone off when I got home and saw that it was fully charged a few hours later around 10pm and I booted it up and left it alone. This morning it was dead, off.
Looking at the apps that take up my battery doesn't work because it doesn't retain information what happened to the phone prior to the last reboot. Not sure what to do. My awake time matches my standby time exactly. It's obviously a 100% awake time problem but what's triggering this?
I'm on Fresh .3 with absolutely no other mods. I don't think I have any apps that ping outside servers. So what the ****!?
EDIT:
lulz, I just realized I haven't been even able to use the phone in 3 days due to this issue

That's a PITA. This is a clean fresh .3 rom install with only logmein, dropbox and couple non-online games installed. Why is this phone such ****ing fail right now.
Have you removed the Favorites widget? Doing that stopped all battery drain problems for me. Just delete the widget.
First thing to check is if you have a sufficient cellular signal. If you are getting a weak signal it will cause poor battery life. If cell signal strength is not your problem then it is definitely something you have installed on it eating away at your battery. That said check/do the following:
1) Check how frequently you have your accounts syncing
2) Before the phone dies look in your battery use to see what's eating your battery
3) Install a task manager/killer (I use Advanced Task Killer)
4) You don't have to do this one but it does help. I use a program called Startup Auditor to disable startup on apps I don't need to run when the phone first boots (you'd be surprised how many are in there).

delete it completely or remove it from one of the home panels?
the "time without signal" workarounds seem to prove the most effective for me. in addition, reduce background usage and automatic update frequencies as best as you can.
according to this thread [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709768] (and link within), HTC has acknowledged some issues and is preparing to deploy a few fixes.
You are running someone else's ROM, there could be a problem with the radio, or a problem with the way it was loaded.
If you are in an area where you don't get signal, you are going to drain the battery, and FAST.
Do you have 4g on but not in a 4g area?
I am...
fully rooted and have fresh .3 as well. I am getting over 30hrs with moderate use and the last hour of that I had everything on to purposely run it down to dead. (was doing a toastch recommeded battery meter calibration).
Took my phone off the charger last night at 7:30 pm. It's 2:23pm and I have 31% left. I have Wifi, BT, and Background apps with auto sync turned on.
I would say you might be experiencing the Motorola cell tower problem. HTC has confirmed that the EVO is not playing well with cell towers that have motorola transmitters. It is causing the phone to use more energy to dial in the tower.
To be sure...
1. Set all apps and widgets to manual update or update once a day.
2. Get rid of the people app or widget from any home screen.
3. Go into Gtalk and uncheck auto sign in. Then sign out when you exit the program.
4. charge the phone until the green light comes on. Don't use a battery meter. The second the green light comes on, go into recovery and wipe the battery stats. Reboot the phone and run it until the battery dies and will not longer power the phone. This does nothing for the battery but does recalibrate the internal battery meter.
5. For maximum life...turn off: background data, WiFi, BT, and Mobile networks when not using. keep screen at 1/2 brightness.
If I do the above and manually update mail, weather, social apps, etc... and only turn radios on when I need them, I can get 40 hrs. out of my EVO and this is under moderate to high moderate use.
One other thing....plug your phone in for 10 minutes. Then unplug it and go into immediate stand by for like 30 minutes. Go to settings>about phone>battery>battery use>cell standby. Time without signal should be very low....anything over 10-15% and I'd suspect that if you did everything in 1-5, you have a towers issue robbing your battery.
I was having awake time issues with Fresh .3, so I switched to DamageControl, and everything has been great. Unplugged this morning at 7, and I still have 75% battery remaining. Better battery life than the Hero or BlackBerry Tour!

I seem to be having the same problem as you and it is quite frustrating. I get a steady 10% battery drain every hour even when its idle. I tried juice defender and setcpu and it is still the same. I turned off all my sync accounts and nothing. I also have systempanel and it doesn't seem like theres a rogue app eating my batteries.I'm going to truth to stock tonight to see if something is wrong with my phone. Did you ever figure out what was wrong with your phone?
AVA9 i get 20 hours a charge
but YES something is eating your battery install system pan have and let it run a bit and check the info id bet its
1 your evo spend a lot of tWOS
2 you have a rogue app eating your battery

I do apologize for bumping such an old thread, but I feel like this thread has already asked much of what I also wanted to ask but have not reached a conclusion. Therefore I would like to try and solve the problem or provide as much info as I can to solve the problem.

As you can see besides the internet, there is nothing else thats taking up the battery. Also I took this pic after I put the phone on the charger for a bit, it was at ~ 13% before. The battery usage information says a majority of the battery was used by #1 android system and #2 cell standby, it was neck and neck almost, with #3 being phone idle. My weather app polls every 3 hours, my facebook syncs every 30 mins, my htc sense facebook syncs once a day, and I have not configured any other emails except for two gmail acconts, which received probably 3 emails throughout the whole day.
I just used setcpu today, it made absolutely no difference. Same results as yesterday when I did not have setcpu. Thanks in advance for the help!
dude you need to try my setup: superevo and setcpu
i got 7 days of battery using the evo as a simple phone.

Why would anyone use an EVO as a simple phone.
I am beginning to think peoples opinions on moderate use vary tooooo much. The EVO is similar to an unplugged laptop. The more you make the cpu work the faster your battery is going to drain.
It seems some people just dont get that.

Sounds like Operator error.
thiis thing dies on me really quick, at home not as bad when I'm on wifi, but i left this morning from my house, and by the time I got to work 45 minutes later i'm at like 90% and i've done nothing on the phone, not a thing, no text, no voice calls. time without signal is 0.
then of course I get to work and time without signal jumps to like 22%, but still, my blackberry didn't go dead in half a day. i'm running the mixup undervolted kernal and the epic experience rom.
I do run gps and normal phone settings but turning them off is really not an option, especially for my wife that just needs a phone that works and isn't dead before she is out of work, and she doesn't even use the phone.
am I doing something wrong or is the battery life really this crappy?
and it was worse before the new kernal on DI18, and way worse before that.
i use the same set up i got 10 hours under pretty use
try turning gps off at work
So what are you leaving on? 4g? Gps? WiFi? I found that using black wallpaper helps.
wifi and gps are always on, it seems its TWS that is killing it. at like 22% right now. battery is down to 83% right now 2 hours off charger. no voice calls or text calls.
If you are getting a tws of 50% then put your phone into airplane mode for about 10 seconds and then switch it back, you will see a dramatic decease in tws

Here's a few things you can do ...
1) If you have Sprint service in most places, turn off roaming (Settings, Call settings, System select, Sprint). This will disable roaming period so that all roaming services are disabled (i.e. you won't ever see the data roaming guard).
2) Download JuiceDefender beta (this turns off all data, i.e. Wifi / 3G, whenever your phone's screen is off, if you purchase UltimateJuice with it, you can schedule it however you want, and you can choose to allow some apps to always allow data to go through). This saves me a LOT of battery since my screen is usually off.
3) Try the TWS hack mentioned in the earlier post, it should be fixed in DI18, but some people are still seeing high numbers there.
4) If you're rooted, get an app like Autostarts and disable the DRM service from ever running. This was found to be a battery killer.
The biggest battery drainer of them all is the GPS, and then 3G. If you can minimize your uses with those, you will maximize battery life. Also, use Wifi in areas that have it because Wifi hardly drains battery at all compared to 3G. I haven't seen any kernel really that gets much more battery life than stock, so doing these things will help. I love the Epic, but the battery life is a real downer for me too. I've gotten a full day's use (medium use) at times, while some days it hardly lasts at all.
Yes do the airplane mode trick and turn off gps if you are not using it and DO NOT USE JUICE DEFENDER i get 45 hours battery life without it. that app runs constantly in the background and uses more battery. Juice defender is for lazy people that dont know how to find these data and sync settings that are already on the phone or you can download an app that will let you toggle whatever setting you need. Set emails to sync once an hour and if it is really a priority then go into the email account and push refresh.
If you are really getting 45 hours of battery while actually using your phone then will you please share all of the settings that you have that give you this kind of battery life

Use SetCPU, it will turn down the processor while the screen is off. Helped alot with battery life. =)

I wondered if that would do anything. Considering how AMOLED works, dark themes and wallpapers *should* help battery life similar to reducing brightness.
Auto-Sync does some mean damage if your settings are too frequent, too. Try not to use Facebook/Twitter/Myspace integration, if possible, or disable them from syncing automatically, and sync them yourself when you feel the need.
Okay I don't know exactly what I did/didn't do but my battery problem seems to be greatly improved. Lets start with my details. Before 2 days ago. No matter what my use my battery drain would be approx 6-8% an hour. If I took my phone off the charger at 11am by 4pm I would be around 60%. GPS/4g/wifi off. Screen brightness set to lowest. tws not too bad. Using both the tws trick and drm stopped. Usually 2 or 3 phone calls 5-10 texts 5-10 minutes of browsing. I had a task killer installed but never used it to kill tasks just as an app switcher. Even after the di18 update no major difference. So the other day I downloaded an app called system panel. Another task manager. I deleted the task killer widget on my home page but no the app. The first day I took my phone off the charger used it for about an hour then put it back on the charger for about 15 minutes. When I took it off the charger it was at 96%. I opened system panel and killed all apps (necessary services/apps restarted immediately) did tws trick and drm kill. Same use as always after 8 hours my battery was at 80% a 16% drop. That's 2% an hour. The next day I deleted my task killer and over the same period of time I went from 96% to 83% (13% lose over 8 hrs) Only a little over 1% lose an hour. The only difference that I am aware of was the deletion of the task killer widget and then the app completely.

Ditto, I'd like to hear what you're doing too ... even when I do not TOUCH the phone, I cannot get 45 hours. I think you're being a bit optimistic here.
Lmao No. Since di18 it has been great. I use my phone for a lot of stuff too. I have a live wall paper and rss feeds that update. email is set to once an hour. Now dont get me wrong if i play a game then it will suck my battery pretty good like 5% for ten minutes. i have a widget for sync settings. im rooted with ALL SPRINT apps removed i think thats the biggest thing. dont leave gps or other on if you are not using it. i do not have drm removed. i use full brightness. i talk a few times a day and dozens of text and web surfing. no juice defender or task killers. The object for me was to not have any unneccessary stuff run when it doesnt need to. so the phone is set to come alive when the screen is on not off. Check ALL APP and WIDGET SETTINGS FOR HOW OFTEN THEY UPDATE. I DO MEAN ALL. GO THROUGH EVERY APP AND CHECK THEIR SETTINGS ALSO the biggest drain is make sure you sign out gtalk or it will just constantly run. I shoulda posted my screen shot of battery life earlier sorry i will as soon as it reads 1d21h again. prolly tomorrow afternoon.... Rooted, cwm, galaxy rom and kernel, blue minimalism theme

i do the airplane trick, problem is it seems, when im on wifi, the life is great, battery is perfect, as soon as you go to 3g, it goes to crap, plus the service where I work is spotty as well. I don't know what to do, seriously I can't go through 2 years of great cell service that I can't use because the battery is dead. I mean if I could get through 10 hours it wouldn't be bad, but as it is now, i'm lucky to squeak through about 8 hours. and I have the mixup kernal that is undervolted and supposedly already messing around with the cpu. usually on 3g, no matter where I am pretty much I"m at like 10-20% TWS.
tws is 50% for me. just stop the data with sync settings then it has no reason to draw more. my house and school have terrible service. you are only losing battery life due to data that is going really slow and it takes way more battery to accomplish. i keep wifi on all nite at my house but my sync settings are off. i do this so its not searching for 3g because i have an airrave and wifi. i used the di07 mixup and was not happy with it. galaxy roms have been the least buggy and very stable with the best battery life. That might be my opinion but also genius dog doesnt have an epic yet so i cant trust his stuff when he cant see the impacts with the kernels he is making. but he does know code i will tell you that.

Holy crap 8 hour battery life is really bad.
Do you have any apps syncing? A weak signal with an app syncing can have a devastating effect on the battery life.
In my school building I get 0-1 signal bars and once I use the stock email app to sync my email every hour with 3G on my battery life is probably a third as good.
How?

Inside my building where I get a weak signal I turn off 3G and use the wifi to sync my apps regularly. I get a good wifi signal there.
If I can't get a good 3G signal in the building than there's not much I can do to my phone to make the 3G signal better (I think that's the cause for the battery drain).
How do ya do it?
at most ive gotten bout 20
MINIMAL use (I.e. no browser).
Yes, anyone getting that much battery is running minimal services with < 10% wake time.
I usually get about 14 hours.
I keep my brightness on auto,
surf the web randomly,
I don't turn off auto-sync,
I watch videos, stream Pandora to my car stereo over Bluetooth,
sync 2 email accounts,
send and receive about 20 texts a day,
my facebook and twitter widgets sync once an hour and sometimes I manually sync them in between,
my Tech-Buzz widget syncs once an hour,
Beautiful Widgets syncs once an hour,
I use whatever wallpaper I feel like using on any particular day(some people think black saves power),
On some days I use Navigation and that knocks my usage back by an hour or two if I don't plug it into the car charger while using it.
I refuse to cripple my phones capabilities, or sit it down all day just so I can say I get 30 hours of battery time. If I need more than 12-18 hours, I have 3 spare batteries ready to go.
Disclaimer: DI8 has really reduced my battery life, however I still can get 2 days if I stretch it, and am *always* at around 70% at the end of a normal day. On my last charge before DI8 I was still at around 50% after 36 hours, with normal use.
What I do:
* Wi-fi always on, never sleep
* 4G off unless I know I'm in a 4G area, then on (it stays off anyway if I've got wi-fi)
* GPS off
* DRM and all other non-essential services off
* Screen brightness 1 or 2 ticks above minimum
* Kill only apps that I know are hogs (Google Nav, for example), leave all others alone to do what they want, use ATK as little as possible
* Airplane mode workaround for TWS
I also just don't use a lot of apps that I know are going to potentially prevent the phone from sleeping or otherwise hog up the battery if they happen to start up in the background randomly. I just don't have apps like that. Some people install all sorts of weird crap on their phones that does god knows what, I generally will only install stuff where I know exactly what it does. I also don't run a lot of widgets that check stuff in the background, although I do run Twitter and Facebook.
I am sure I don't use my phone as much as some people here, but it's wrong to assume people who get good battery life just don't use their phones. I make no real attempt at not using my phone; I use it whenever I want. That includes making calls, browsing the web (with one of three browsers), sending text messages or writing emails, using navigation in my car, and playing games.
Of all the things I do with my phone, the only thing I've noticed really super-killing my battery is GPS and navigation. That burns the battery at a rate of about 20% per half hour, which is about as long as I normally use it. But even if I use the GPS for an hour in a day, I can still get about 24 hours out of the battery if I need to.
I'm convinced wi-fi still really helps, and I'm set up so that *most* of the time I have wi-fi. I have wi-fi at home, at work, and actually on most of my route to and from work (my cable company has free wi-fi if you're a cable subscriber). I don't know how good my battery life would be if I didn't have that.
I use to get 20-25 hours easy, now I'm lucky to get maybe 8-10

Same here. Using stock DI18, rooted, mixup kernel with ondemand setcpu and juice defender (it was 5 hours b4 juice dfender installed.
Turned off the DRM service, automatic brightness. That's it. Stock everything else!
I've got GV and talk always on.
I"m a light user; sent 50+ text messages, occasionally check my email, and push email every hour.
At 40% battery life I have 2 days of battery life.
In the background I have
5 essential stock services running
digital clock wdiget
voicemail
email app
switchpro widget
My running time is 5.5% (lol), with display on 2 hours (auto-brightness), 3G on 10 hours, wifi on for the remaining time (Wi-fi policy never sleep), and TWS 0% (airplane mode trick).
Also, if you run wifi make sure you set the sleep policy to never. I'm using the DI18 update and when I turned my phone on I saw the 3G icon in the notification bar when there should be the wifi icon. Setting the wifi sleep policy to never will stop the phone from using 3G when the screen is off. NOT fixed in the DI18 update.
Attached my wallpaper lol
what exactly does wifi never sleep do to save battery ? also I seen it mentioned on a dif site, set it up that way and when the phone went off it appeared the wifi did also .. idk need a lil insight on that whole setting

Normally, wi-fi uses a lot less battery life than 3G, so sometimes you want to use wi-fi and not 3G.
You set wi-fi sleep policy to "never," so that when you have wi-fi turned on and the phone goes to sleep, it won't turn off the wi-fi and turn on 3G. So the phone only uses wi-fi and "never" switches to 3G.
You have to manually change this in the advanced settings.
I don't know if it's something I downloaded which is eating my battery. I guess I'll try to do a hard reset, if that doesn't solve it, time to root
I can't get more than 8 hours on this..any suggestions to increase it?
I never get to 10 hours but I use my phone constantly. I on average use two batteries a day. I believe I should get the most out of my phone, I am paying the monthly fee, why restrict myself cause my phone will have a dead battery, I always carry a spare.

Same here, I got 2 batteries off of ebay so I use the hell out of my phone. Brightness is on max to show off that screen, stereo bluetooth and pandora,4g is always on, live wallpapers and browse internet and play games a lot (angry birds mostly) . Battery lasts me 7 to 8 hrs which is amazing based on how much I use it. If u are doing normal use and getting 8 hrs then something is wrong, ur maybe not in 4g and 4g is ona nd ur wasting batt looking for signal oor something else. Maybe u have a service running in the background. I removed media hub and drm bc I heard they run a lot, but I never did a proper b4 and after comparison so not sure if it actually does help. I'm using noobs andromeda rom and d18 update.

Id be SO happy if I could even get 6 hours off one charge.
I'm lucky to get more than 3hours these days from 100 to 15%. :\
I did have a lot of widgets, but I removed a majority of them. I NEVER have wifi, 4G, GPS or sync on. My brightness is always set to 0%.
I guess I just use the phone too much! I don't mind because I usually am able to get near a wall outlet to charge my phone in the middle of the day.
But I'm worried about tomorrow, where I'm leaving at 8am and not getting back till 6pm with NO ACCESS to any wall outlets. I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna make it. Lol.
posted from a EPIC4G.
I'm convinced that with regular use you are gonna get 8-10 hrs on a full charge. Hell by 8 hrs you are going need to start charging unless you want to wait until the phone dies so you can claim x amount of hours.
There is no point in turning off everything on your phone and barely using it to say it lasts 20 hrs. Get a charger for work, home and your car. It is what it is.
I wake up at 6am, charge by 2 pm when battery is around 30%.
the problem with this phone bottom line is that 3g is eating the battery life. I set wifi to always on and I'm always on wifi in the house. I can get 12-14 hours sitting in my house. whoopie doo. Thats not hte point of the phone, the point of the phone is to have mobile service, not wifi service. anyone that is getting 30 hours out of the phone is using wifi. So thats not even a fair comparison. I love the phone, but this is just stupid, I shouldn't have to carry a spare battery with me if I go to the daytona 500 from 9am to 9pm.

Yeah 3G does eat more battery life than wi-fi but that doesn't mean you can't have great battery life with 3G on all the time. I can get 1-2 days with 3G on and with light use, but that's in part because I get a good 3G signal.
I probably emphasized too much on wi-fi but the point I'm trying to make is try to avoid using a weak connection. Generally, I use wi-fi/3g/4G in my home but inside most buildings they'll most likely have weak 3G and 4G connections, so I use the wi-fi network inside the building.
You said you could get 12-14 hours with wi-fi and not touching the phone? I'm not trying to be rude but that seems really low. If mines idle on wi-fi in my home it lasts days. With 14 hours idling, that means the battery life drops 7% every hour. Idling on wi-fi I think it should only drop 1-3% per hour.
Mind if you go to settings -> applications -> running services and post what you have?
i get twenty four hours on average a full day so to speak wake up it says fully charged i take it off check twitter and facebook leave the house and dont touch it until i am at school bored in class lol and then it says 95 after a full day of class it usually says 66 thats after 9 hours i go home play with it download apps etc make several calls and i text alot all day by the way and then i go to work and it says 50 or about 48 usually i use it all night off and on til i get home at seven my wife kills the battery and puts it on the charger while i sleep usually about 9
