I was having the exact same problem. I am not running Sky Raider, but I am on the leaked 2.2.
I nandroided back to what I thought was CyanogenMod6 (turbs iut it was actually my nandroid of the fresh 2.2 leak. Whatever it was it was fixed. I wish I gad an answer, but I honestly have no idea what happened. All I did was nandroid back 6 hours early and it was fixed
When I first went to Skyraider 2.0.1 I had the same problem too, so I uninstalled handcent and used the stock messages app and all the pictures for my contacts showed up.
Well, I have this problem as well. No matter what I have done I have not been able to get my contact pictures working in Handcent or the stock messaging app. When calling, or just browsing my contacts, their pictures appear just fine.
I backed up then wiped my contacts and uninstalled Handcent, and rebooted (battery pull for 30s).
When the phone rebooted I reinstalled Handcent and then restored contacts from the SD card, and then rebooted. Still no luck..
I also had this issue so I removed the Mms.apk and pushed the vanilla Mms.apk in recovery its faster and does not suffer from the contact picture problem

Skyraider sense 2.5.2. I suddenly can't send or recieve picture text messages. Says generic network error. text only texts go with no problems. Anyone have any ideas of a setting that could have been changes or any other ideas?
Thanks
Rod
What have your done so far? I would do so battery pull first. Second I would do a wipe/reinstall of Skyraider.
Did this just happen or is it native to you installing SR.

Everything was working fine. I think I installed Shazam and it quit working. Uninstalled that and didn't change anything. Uninstalled and reinstalled handcent. Nothing. Was trying to avoid a wipe as everything else is running great. I wondered if I killed a service that it needs. I think I saw a post once about turning something off, but was unable to find it.
Thanks
Rod
I've been having lag recently withing the SMS app. I will open it up and it's slow/sluggish and it takes my contacts pictures a while to load.
I know there are SMS apps like Handcent and Chomp, but I'm not a big fan of them. They've deleted all my texts multiple times and the interface looks cheap to me.
I delete my SMS threads every week or so and I do not have a lot of MMS messages in these threads. Does anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, have a fix for it?
Thanks.

I use handcent every day since the DX was released and it has never deleted any of my texts...and you can change the interface as well. And for what it's worth, haven't noticed any lag with it either. I just love the quick reply
Had a similar problem with my contact list...it was because I had removed atcmd.apk. Have you removed any bloatware?
Handcent > Stock messaging app
And if it deleted all your texts, you probably hit the delete button
I have removed bloatware so I'll need to check into that.
As for Handcent; it deleted all of my SMS messages twice. It originally did it to my friend, but I figured he was the one at fault. Shortly after that my texts got deleted. This never happened on the Droid X, only on the original Droid.
I just don't like the way the Handcent interface looks on my X, even though the stock SMS app is hideous in its own right.
i agree with you whole heartedly. i dont like chomp or handcent.. i know a lot of people do.. good for them. but i really want just the stock android 2.2 messaging.
I have the same problem. If I get a text notification and I select it from the pull down notification bar it takes forever to load. I've used hand cent and I got even more loading lag with that app so I uninstalled it. I'm wondering if its my conversation sizes or I'm running or of ram

How does DX handle deleted messages? I was just wondering bc I am used to Sense on WinMo and I would delete my messages - but then I noticed one day it stored all my deleted messages as well. Go figure.
Does DX work the same way? (haven't got mine yet) I mean could it be that you have hundreds of deleted texts hiding somewhere waiting to be emptied like on HTC Sense/WinMo?
I just wanted to let you guys know that I installed the MMS.apk package from the original Droid Cyanogen 5.0.8 build, and it works swimmingly. I used Titanium Backup to backup and remove the Motorola Text Messaging app and have seen no issues.
Also, if any of you have had a problem with receiving messages 2 or 3 at a time, (duplicates) this solved that problem for me.
hey where can i get my hands on that MMS.apk? please
Yes, I searched it. I know Handcent released an update in July or so, but my issue just started, even with the newest version.
So, I have the following setup:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A
HBOOT-1.33.0013
RADIO-2.22.23.02
Cyanogenmod 6.0.0
I flashed all of the above a few weeks ago and SMS/MMS worked with Handcent just fine. I went back through my text timeline and everything was perfect as of 11/11. I really changed nothing except changing to Launcher Pro from ADW.
I uninstalled both Handcent and ChompSMS with no luck.
The first very simple question I have is: Is there a file/app that I could see with Titatnium that IF UNINSTALLED would render MMS useless? If that's the case, I may have deleted something. I deleted what I thought was the stock messaging app, email (outlook) and a few other things I thought were useless. I am not beyond the possibility that I uninstalled something important, but it's hard to tell when it's GONE.
So, please let me know, what SHOULD I have in there to make this work. Then I'll check and compare. If it's not there then I'll reinstall it. Thanks!
Dane
I fixed this today. My error was, in fact, deleting the original Messaging program. Apparently, the stock messaging app handles all the MMS transfers. So, I simpky reinstalled the messaging apk that came stock with Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 (attached below) and voila.
Thanks to myself for being brilliant.
I went through the exact same thing. I like handcent a *LOT* more than the stock one and my magic's meager hardware is too crippled to run both, so I removed the mms.apk and it rocked! Except no MMS
Perhaps after the +14mb memory upgrade I'll be able to run handcent atop the stock app without any performance hit.

That's why my momma named me that!
I can freeze the stock app with titanium and mms still works in handcent, not sure if it still takes up the memory footprint that way.

Oh cool, I'll have to give it a try. You clearly have to do that after each reboot, eh?
if i freeze my mms.apk, then i can still use handcent to send/receive sms. with a frozen mms.apk, handcent can send mms messages , but i can't receive mms's which stinks. perhaps this was something knew cuz i thought i had mms.apk frozen for the past 2-3 months and i got mms messages through handcent without a problem.
Greets All,
Just wanted to see if anyone else has this, I noticed on my SDCard a folder called PDU_Log, curious I looked inside to find a bunch of files mostly named
sms_1.pdu
sms_2.pdu
sms_3.pdu
sms_4.pdu
Or
mms_1.pdu
mms_2.pdu
When opening it in wordpad its garbled, I am just wondering what is this folder, and is this like HTC sense in Windows Mobile for HD2 that kept a log of all the sms and mms in a folder?
I also have this. After deleting the folder and restarting my HD2, it is created again.
Okay so anyone want to take a stab at this as to if this is the SMS keeping a log? If not then why is it keep coming back?
I don't know why, but it's also on my Desire Z.
I am running the modaco Rom BTW.

I use handsent SMS. Any clue ???
Dont want this log !!!
...
So I changed my client from handsent to chomp and BONG: pdu_log-Folder gone and remains in hell after deleting. So it seems the handsent proggie ist the evil.
btw: if u open one of this log files with a text editor, u are able to read all ur sms, u sent an received: its a huge securety leak, grrr
Its not the case for me as I do not use handsent.

I don`t think its handcent :/ I`m not using it ... didn use it even once! And got this folder :/ Anybody got any more ideas what can creating it? :/
I got the same appearing and I just use the Sense SMS app.
Is anyone else using HTCSense.com?
I'm synching with (not really using) HTCSense.com on my Desire Z with SenseGinger 3.0, also Handcent.
Just noticed this folder a minute ago, it was not there during my SD backup 2 days ago.
Opening the files in Notepad clearly reveals the phone number and message content.
So far I have no idea where this comes from.
Let's find out
Update: rebooted the device, got an sms while shutting down, after reboot the folder was there again, but I didn't start any of the messaging apps myself.
Kind regards,
SubWorx
hay chaps ive been getting this i noticed was when i would install a fresh rom it wouldnt happen
when i logged into my google account i unticked backup and restored my back u with titanium backup
it would return
then i tryed again with siginin into google and doin a back up didnt apear then i signed into google and would appear so i found it was google but even wen i made a new account it would happen im so lost on wats goin on
I just noticed this folder this morning. I'm on an Evo with VirusROM GengerSense ReV B2. I use Handcent. I'm coming from CM7 and never noticed this before, so I'm guessing it has something to do with Sense.
If this is a function of Sense, and if it restores all my messages when I flash VirusROM B3 (which will do a full wipe), then I'm cool with it. I'm more than cool with it actually. Although this should be optional.
PDU_LOG folder
Same thing happened to me.
I'm running Android Revolution B4 and had signed up to HTC Sense just to check the extra's.
I took a backup and then removed the account and the folder and it has not come back since.
I'd noticed that Handcent started running a bit slower possibly cos it up always copying the texts onto the memory card. When I looked at the date/time of the PDU files, they were all copied over yesterday, even though that folder and the messages have been there for about a month.
Built-In Function
This is my take on this.
HTC Sense (2.3 and higher) automatically "backs up" your messages to the SD card. If you were to flash a 2.3 ROM that runs sense then flash another 2.3 ROM running sense, you should maintain your SMS/MMS.
Cool but unsecured. Wish they had implemented some type of security as anyone with some "smarts" can access your SMS/MMS history.

There is a way to disable this automatic backup?
I see this post resurfaced. Just to let everyone know I just checked my sdcard and this folder doesn't exist anymore. I an running my own kingdom rom in my signature forgot all about this till I saw this post again. Could be the message apk that might have this setting.

if this a backup. my question is how do we restore it ?
hey
i have a wierd problem with texts
every message i receive goes into its own thread instead of updating the current persons text thread..
i just changed rom's so backed up my sms's with sms backup and restore. , after restoring i noticed that all my sent messeges and received messages to people there in 2 different threads for each person one thread for sent one for received....
so i thought it might have been a dodgy backup... so i viewed the backup but everything looks ok nothing is split into 2 threads .... each person has 1 thread
so i thought it might be the sms backup not being compaitable with my new rom (dragon j/b 1.7) so i deleted my sms's ALL of them and started from scratch....
but again i just received a text from a friend i replied to that and when he replied again it went into a new thread......
anyone help?
checked my contacts they are all linked (ie, facebook....google.... accounts into one contact file)
anyone? can't seem to find info anywhere

I had the same issue with Dragon 1.6 when I installed with AOSP SMS. Reinstalled the ROM, this time with stock MMS AND the issue was resolved.

tried that this morning didn't work still same problem
so weird thing happened here.. when i installed the Go SMS app, my native AOSP SMS app started stacking the messages into one contact... somehow the GO SMS app interfered with the AOSP sms app... so i just gonna live it installed.. hide it.. and wait for a fix one the AOSP SMS app... i hope this somehow helps to figure out the problem.
