Hi everyone I just got my vibrant from tmo last week and I'm loving most of it so far.
I tried doing a search and couldn't find anything on this but maybe I missed it, so if I did, can someone help point me in the right direction? Thanks!
Basically, I am trying to download .doc and .ppt files directly from my class website which my professor posted up. I tried through the default web browser, dolphin browser, steel, skyfire and xscope. I am unable to download the files through any of these browsers except for xscope. Even through xscope though, the file is downloaded, but when I attempt to open through thinkfree office, all I see is html code in the document. Also, if I use documents to go, it says that it cannot be opened because it is actually an html file.
I have verified that through my laptop that the files on the website do work and can be downloaded to my pc.
Thanks for the help!
I've got a Captivate and I noticed the same thing today... using Skyfire to log into WebCT (or "Blackboard) and couldn't get it to download .pdf files or powerpoint files.... wonder if its related, or if maybe its the WebCT/Blackboard system itself.
Try installing a file manager like Astro and enabling the browser plug in. then you should be able to download any file.

Same for me, my uni also uses Blackboard (but thankfully i hear they are changing system next year or so). I've tried stock and opera browser.
Hard to tell where the problem is tho.. blackboard is fairly crappy software, doesn't work half of the time.
Like posted above... Download Astro (free from market) and open it, go to settings and enable "Enable browser downloader" and then you can download anything

Thanks, gave that a try but I still haven't been able to download the files off the website. I noticed one more thing though actually, I'm having trouble downloading say a .docx file through my yahoo mail, but the same file will download through gmail...
You might also give Opera a try. I ran into a similar issue when downloading from a campus webdav server, and Opera was the only browser that worked for me.

there used to be a download helper app, but I can't seem to find it in the market anymore.

Download Crutch Lite has always worked for me.
Thanks for suggesting opera, I completely forgot about that one and direct downloads from websites has been working for my current needs so far.
Is download crutch lite for the default web browser?
Its a stupid limitation most likely imposed by the carriers. I couldn't even download a mp3. I reconciled the problem with a.program called bytetornado from the apparently market. It does away with the restrictions.

I'm on a different ROM on Vibrant and I don't think that ThinkFree is no longer on my phone. I need to find which ROM has ThinkFree because having those options is a must for me.
Hello,
I bought the tablet 2 days ago.
I have some issues using it and couldn't find all the problems discussed here.
1. When I try to play a vimeo embedded file in the stock browser, it won't play.
I tried the following pages with their videos:
trafictube.ro, search for "transfagarasan" for example,
or second option, check for an episode of creativemonkeyz.com's series, named robotzi (can't post links, sorry).
The only one solution I found was to use Skyfire, Dolphin HD didn't worked.
Did anyone noticed this? Is there a way I can use the stock google chrome browser?
2. If I try to search this forum, it can't be done using the default browser, or dolphin. It works with skyfire, too?
Same for you? Another solution, maybe?
3. When I go to a page that has support for mobiles, they translate the address to the mobile version, like for smartphones (Google, Opera mini, Dolphin HD). The only one browser I found OK was skyfire, again.
Is there another way to change this behavior?
Thank you all for your answers!

Not sure about the first one but to solve the second isssue you can change the Browser User Agent in Browser Settings to Desktop.
1. Download the flash from here and install it. Reboot and it should works.
3. Within all browsers, there is option to switch to "Desktop or Full View". Look for User-Agent Header in the browser settings.
been using the stock browser but from previous experience its not the best.
currently trying opera (full version), which seems to be quite snappy, and I have noticed that typing lag is almost non existent.....this was very noticeable the stock browser.
personally I really like boat browser on my vibrant, but not available for tablets of yet.
dolphin browser
Opera browser mobile, is by far the best browser at the moment, although using for any text imput can be frustrating especially in pages like facebook due to the tap inside and out of the box issue, however I do like the stock browser apart from the typing lag which for some reason varies day to day. I am using the stock brower to write this and the lag is only slight this morning
I to use the stock browser, it seems pretty stable to me and pinch to zoom is very smooth.
Since i have exchanged my transformer i havent had any force closes with the stock browser yet.Admittedly i have only been using it for under 24 hours but it appears a lot more stable for some reason. I have the same apps installed so i have ruled out that an app was causing the stability issues. Iwill keep testing over the next few days but as of now iam happy with the performance apart from the standard keyboard lag.

I use Firefox as I'm a diehard Mozilla supporter. I like it more than the stock browser, but that's just me. And no I'm not a fanboy that thinks everyone should use Firefox I just prefer it over all other choices.
Stock browser for now.
I've been using Opera Mobile lately. It's nice and fast, though I prefer the layout on the stock browser. The stock browser is buttery-smooth most of the time, but chugs out occasionally. Opera, while not quite as smooth, is always constant. I've never seen it slow down.
I briefly tried Firefox and promptly removed it. It was the laggiest browsing experience I've encountered on my Transformer. I don't understand how they can make something so simple run so poorly.
My browser of choice is opera mobile. Aside from a few small annoyances I think it really blows the stock browser away except for the quick controls which are nice

Opera mini for most sites. Dolphin for desktop versions of sites. Stock for Facebook. xda works by far the best on opera mini. flash is broken on any browser still (google/asus fault) really hoping that is fixed soon.
I like to use stock browser, it is fast and the interface looks the best me, but it always crash (without any error prompt) keeping me to stay away from it. For now I use dolphin for stability.
Been using Dolphin Browser HD for a while now. Better than the stock browser which kept FC'ing on me. Havn't tried Opera yet, maybe I'll give it a go tonight.
I liked the stock one, but decided to try new ones to get rid of some lag.
I didn't like Dolphin neither Miren.
I thought Opera was great, but tehe textbox input is horrible . This is the third time I am writing the answer to this post , and I hate loosing typed text. I am googling to see if I can get rid of this textbox or else unistalling opera.
Regards.
Opera Mobile - almost perfect but strange tabs (if you can get used to it it should be perfect).
Dolphin Browser - great, but has severe issues with opening links in new tabs (and opening links in general).
Stock browser - not that bad either.
Try Maxaton Browser. It's designed specifically for 10-inch tablets. It also doesn't default to mobile sites.
Dolphin HD is good too, because there is a desktop mode setting. I don't need mobile sites on my "tab-uter"

Plus 1 for the above he is bang on.
I use opera for daily usage, but maxthon is nice too.
I mainly use the stock browser because it has the best keyboard shortcut support. I also use Dolphin HD because it has LastPass integration and the second-best keyboard support.
I keep Firefox around for when things don't work with those two, but it doesn't seem to support any keyboard shortcuts, which is strange. Opera and Maxaton, ditto, but not strange.
I wish a Desktop port for Firefox would come... But Opera has ZERO keyboard lag, vs all of the other browsers.
Opera also has a stupid tab browser, and text box issues.
Hell, a Chrome port would be amazing too! I want my addons/extensions! NOW!
Does your Stock Browser never crash, my stock browser crashes all the time.
After I've been using miren browser for the last year I need to find a new browser since miren was pulled from the market.
So far I haven't found any good replacements and was wondering about suggestions.
The one thing that is an absolute must have for me is the ability to flick back and forward through history. (I know that Dolphin allows you to use gestures, but I want this on all the time)
Things that would also be great, but not a deal breaker.
Lastpass support
Xmarks support
So what are your suggestions? The closest browser I have found was UC Browser
Maxthon Browser
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mx.browser&hl=en
Tried maxthon browser, but the addons kept on crashing.

This tutorial has been developed for the user wanting native Flash Support when browsing the web. We have tested the Flash Player through a number of sites and have seen flawless performance.
The method used here also allows any application to use the built in Flash Player, like BBC Player which requires Flash Player to run properly. Remember, Android is phasing out Flash Player, so this tutorial will become more important as we grow towards updated Android OS Platforms. We currently use Adobe Flash Player 11.1.115.16 4.0+
Why use Flash Player on the Kindle? You are able to obtain Free Content from these providers:

Flash Player Step 6: Now launch either Dolphin or Opera Web Browser, go to any Flash Site. At some point you will be asked which browser to use by default. Play with them both, I like both and have had a hard time deciding which one is better. So far Dolphin appears to open just about any site whereas Opera seems to be a little more picky on the content.
Note: The Amazon Silk Web Browser loaded as the default browser on the Kindle 7" HD does not support Flash content nor will it work with this new plugin. This is the reason for installing Opera and Dolphin.

That is the version we use in this post - Adobe Flash Player 11.1.115.16 4.0+.:good:
Boat Browser works great for Flash as well. I prefer version 4.6.1. I personally go back and forth between Boat and Dolphin depending on version. I've never been a fan of Opera.

Now this is one I have not tried. I will take a peek at it tonight, Thank you for the feedback.:good:
Boat is fairly similar to Dolphin in settings and privacy features. The new version has static bookmarks that I dont much care for but 4.6.1 does not. I will upload this version shortly for you to try. Also, thanks for all your hard work and dedication to the community. Ive been following several of your posts/guides and am thankful we have you here to help those who need it.

Redwolf379,
I had time to test Boat Browser today. I think I like it better than Dolphin. It is a very snappy and fast browser, even
with complex content sites or Flash sites. Anyways, I am impressed and thank you for the recommendation. The
Boat Browser footprint is small, here is the comparison:
1. Google Chrome 19.3 MB
2. Boat Browser 2.1 MB
3. Mozilla Nightly 25.97 MB
4. Opera 8.49
5. Dolphin 4.78 MB
So, the above answers why each one accelerates in it's own area. Mozilla is loaded with features but look at the
Footprint, the cost is speed, Mozilla Nightly is by far the slowest of the bunch. Both Dolphin and Boat Browser
have a large array of options, so in the end you can get all the features of Mozilla with the state of the art
performance.
Great to hear! I stumbled across it when I was looking for something to compare Dolphin to some time ago and really liked it. I have both Boat and Dolphin installed but Boat has been my daily driver browser for a while now.

mindmajick,
That is one I forget to use, yet it is quite universal and supports Flash. I still find Boat Browser to be a bit faster than the rest, even with Flash Player active. The funny part? I disable Flash when I use this site since the scripts are massive with lots of Ad pointers active. Flash disabled on this site increases the performance 10 fold.
Thank you mindmajick for taking the time to post your comments:good:.
