I am hoping to unroot (used that 3 click method) so I can install the ota 2.2. I tried installing 2.2 using every trick possible including RUU, and still no luck.
I should note that a factory reset did not help, and the RUU seems to work (the sync app recognizes the Eco) until the install starts, then there is a usb connection error.
I assume you're in USB debugging and charge only? Sync is installed?
If it matters at all, I used the 1.32 RUU exe and then did the OTA update to 1.47.
Maybe just give it another shot and see if it goes through.
Yes, I am using Debugging, cahrge only (also tried SYnc setting) and the Sync app is installed.
I have tried 20 times, and each time it connects properly, then at some point it stalls and says something about USB disconnected...?!?
Have you tried doing a full wipe first? This might prevent problems later anyways.
Why not use the 2.2 rooted rom and save your root access? I don't see a point in going 2.2 unrooted.

Wtf got bored and unrooted my phone and it says there is a htc software update ready to be installed and everytime i click it, it reboots my phone into the updater and then error. And i have to take out the battery to restart my phone.
Is this a problem with the phone itself or is there a way to fix this?
Did you unroot by running the RUU? Are you s-off? Do you have stock recovery?
I did all the above and i still get it to start updating then error

Sounds like you are still rooted but with no recovery... may want to flash the ruu again to make sure it all took... hopes this is helpful.
Also if you are referring to a firmware update I have a extra evo that says that but is currently on 3.30 still so I don't even know if 3.70 ever came out to unrooted phones..(I need to check into that)

I guess it didnot unroot completely but i started to redo the procedure and it kill all my drivers. Had to reinstall each one manually and the ruu is not finding my phone anymore after the first step of turning it off and using the usb cord. Help?
I think I found the problem, I needed to change the title for my phone on HTC sync to my HTC, and it found it ok. I also had to reset the splash screen to stock before any of this could happen.
Thank you for giving me the ruu and the pointers I needed to make this happen. Now to bring the phone back for other reasons on why its not receiving signal from Sprint but for some reason it gets Verizon... I can't stand Verizon so its time for a new EVO
I'm going to be activating my Hero pretty soon on Sprint but it's currently running CM7. Can I activate it while running CM7 or do I need to revert it back to the stock ROM to activate it? If I need to revert it back to stock, can someone help me out with how to do that cause it's been a while since I've done any of this.
If you're reactivating it on the same phone number it once used (ie. the MDN & MSID haven't changed) you should be fine without flashing. otherwise it's worth it to flash to a sense rom. Just go through the motions when programming with sprint over the phone because you won't be able to access the ## menus. Better yet, sprint.com/activate, no human interaction.

Definitely use a sense. You never know what they might have you do.

It's going to be for a different number, so I guess I'll flash it back to Sense. Do I just put the Sense ROM on my SD card and flash it with the boot menu?
Yes, you will need a sense rom. No, you do not need to unroot. Liquidsense or nfx are good choices. Flash them per instructions in their respective threads. Word to the wise, once you get a sense rom flashed, make a nand so you can go back and update your prl/profile easier.

Ok I'm running into a problem. Ever since I put the Liquid Sense file on my SD card, it won't let me get to the menu to install it. I turn my phone off then hold power + home and it just sits at the white screen that says HTC. I tried installing Liquid Sense through ROM Manager as well and same thing, just freezes at the white HTC screen. Any ideas on what to do? By the way, I tried installing the stock HTC ROM but the installer just says Error 170 USB Cable Error or something even though I follow all the steps correctly.
USB error 170 (WIN 7) is usually fixed by simply disconnecting and reconnecting the USB and re-running the RUU. Also, its likely that your failed attempt to run the RUU has wiped out your custom recovery, hence your inability to access it. At this point, you can try to re-flash a new recovery, or successfully run the RUU and re-root

Yeah I think you're right about something being wrong with the custom recovery so what I did was just installed the alternate recovery using ROM Manager and then I was able to install Liquid Sense from the new recovery menu. Thanks for the help
Ok so here is what is going on. my wife wanted her phone unrooted and returned to stock. Before I did anything she had MIUI ROM. So anywho, I downloaded the PG06img zip for the .98hboot. I have done hboot updates before so i figured this would be the least painful way. So i selected yes to update and set the phone down and let it do its thing. after a while the phone was done but it still was rooted, still had miui. so i rebooted into hboot again and now instead of s-off it is now s-on.
I have been working on this for about 5 hours now and have tried the RUU with PC but all i get are errors, I tried to flash a ROM and now it just flashes the boot screen and nothing else.
Please someone help. I hope this make sense. Oh and I have tried using adb but daemon keeps having an error.
I recently uprooted my shift what I did was 1st I backed up everything then I loaded a rooted regular shift Rom (preferably the original backup) then I loaded HTC sync to my computer once I made sure HTC shift was working properly then I turned off debug mode on my phone then connected it to my pc and ran the ruu and all was restored

Ok i've searched the forums and am getting more and more confused. I have gingerblur 3.1 installed currently and would like to do the ATT ota update. Can I just download it and install from the system update? Or do I need to wipe the whole phone clean and start over? Thanks and sorry if this is a duplicate.
I am wondering this too...

I'm in the same boat, I got GingerBlur 4.5 installed and I would like to install the Gingerbread 4.5.19 OTA update. Are there proper instructions out there? I can't find any. I'm assuming I may have to go back to Stock 1.8.3 and do an OTA update. But can someone please confirm. Any instructions would help as well. Thanks
The directions I seem to need are...
Un gingerblur
Un root
As an aside, I got notified of the ota and it failed.

Make sure your battery is fully charged so that you don't run out of power during the upgrade process.
To install the upgrade:
Copy the file to the SD Card
Your phone is on the latest Android 2.2 software (Blur_Version.4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US)
From the home screen, press Menu, select Settings,
Scroll down and select About Phone.
Select System upgrades.
After a couple of minutes, your device will confirm the upgrade is available.
The Copy prompt will appear. Select “Copy”
The Install upgrade prompt will appear. Select Install Now.
Your device will power off and display installation progress.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Please ensure you are aware of the following information after the installation of the package
It will then power up and stay on the carrier logo for up to 5 minutes before powering on to the home screen.
Please do not interrupt this process.
Contacts and email from Google and MOTOBLUR may take up to 60 minutes to synchronize. The phone may appear slower during this initial synchronization process

same issue here
i tried to install the OTA update, it failed... tried to install it manually and it didn't work either. i tried to install it using android recovery and it didn't work.
Im using gingerblur 4.5
side note,
can any one of you please provide the full name of your system version? mine says "Version.4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US ", thing is, I tried to flash a stock sbf to roll back to motoblur, RSDlite fails every time with a message "sec_exception febe 35 35", my phone isn't recognized as 'NS Flash Olympus', it shows 'SE Flash Olympus'.
is there a thread to fix this issue?
thanks!
I figured out how to do it. First I unlocked the bootloader and then followed the directions on here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342
Worked fine
You need to flash back to stock, i.e. flash 4.1.26 or 4.1.57 or 4.1.83. OTA update to 4.1.83 if you are on an earlier version. The update will not work if you are modded in any way. You need to be on stock 4.1.83.
My god, how many times does this have to be said!!!
So let's just say that you are a moron (like me) and just did the OTA over Gingerblur 4.5 and now you have the exclamation point triangle and android on your screen and it does do anything... is it safe to battery pull? or did I just brick my phone?
EDIT: nevermind...
Is there any guide how to flash back?...
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Well you could use rsd if you've never installed the GB ota.

Update, now problem
I was on gingerblur 4.5, rooted, sideload enabled.
used RSD to flash 4.1.83 - successful - booted - checked mail - etc...
went to Motorolla.com and DL the official firmware
copy .zip to sd
settings/about/upgrade
let it run
followed instructions to the letter from Motorola
30 minutes now on the Rethink Possible screen - seems like a fail?
Help?
Update - she lives, just needed to wait about 45 minutes
Hello
Before you guys get on to me, I did search on how to root the epic 4g
and i even tried using all the tips if unable to root
I have stock froyo 2.2 eco5, it has usb debugging on, I tried oneclickroot 3.1.0.1, and i keep getting "phone not connected." I tried to force it by unplugging cable and quickly plugging back in. and when i got somewhere, it hangs on "waiting for phone to reconnect." for 5 mins, I tried rebooting my pc, rebooting my phone, uninstalling and installing samsung drivers, stock cables, hp cables, blackberry cables. Nothing
I also tried superoneclick and that would not work either.
Please help

I've rooted before, but now that i got a replacement (cracked screen) i cant root at all
All of a sudden I am getting the same damn thing. I never had a problem with this before. I reinstalled the drivers, tried older version, etc. You can actually go a different route. You can grab one of Crawrj's Odin Gingerbread Leak ROMs that includes Superuser,CWM 3.1.0.1 and run that. Then boot to recovery, flash a Froyo ROM, then flash the RFSto EXT4 zip and reboot. I have had to go this route myself lately. It will get you wherever you want to go.
