On a related note, don't forget Verizon is going to be getting rid of their "unlimited" (but still limited) data plan very soon, if they haven't already. Streaming video to your phone will get you to that cap pretty quickly, unless if you're only doing it when on wi-fi or something.

Not for a while.. they haven't even announced the details of the tiered plans.
And the unlimited plan is truly unlimited.. don't know what you are talking about there.

Yeah and if you have unlimited data already, you'll be grandfathered in anyway.

Unlimited I'd not truly unlimited, at 5GB per month, they reserve the right to kick you off. It is to safe guard themselves from network crashes. AT&T used to have the 5 GB cap too

You are confusing phone data with tethered data plan.look it up.

Netflix will be available on Android before too long; then all these other sites will cease to be relevant.

Ya but when... when....

I like this site: ipb.Quicksilverscreen.com It has everything and in flash, it uses stream sites like loombo, vidbux, megavideo, etc so there are lots of options. You can even download divx shows and play them on an android media player that supports divx playback.

why don't you just download the android movies app by H5Development, here is a link
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androidmovies&feature=search_result

I would tell you to purchase "Amatsu" from the Market, but the developers are thieves and crooks.
They sold "free android movies", which was vaporware. It never functioned... Only had a date on it staying when it would be working again. It then disappeared & Amatsu took it's place. Now Amatsu doesn't work!

Just don't change your plan... It is regulated that they have to Grandfather plans that will in turn be less of a service to the customers. If you don't change your plan, they can't change your data.

You never get overage charges from Verizon? I have heard that over 5GB that they start throttling back, and supposedly would charge people.
Sys... Never been charged extra... If I ever do ill raise cain because I bought an UNLIMITED plan, they do throttle which was noticeable on stock, but the apex untether patch really does seem to work quite well.

I've never been charged for overage either. I've had my data plan for a few years now so I guess I'm grandfathered in. I have noticed ever since iPhone 4 came out on Verizon the 3g has been awfully slow. I used to get under 100ms ping with about 2 megabit download speeds. Now the pings are over 500 Ms and speeds arent even hitting 1megabit. Pretty unacceptable considering how much we pay for these devices and data plans. They need to get their **** together.

Just did a 3g speed test and it's getting better. I use the speedtest.net app. Ping - 379 Ms down - 1.31 mbps up - .35 mbps. So it's better but still nowhere near the 3g speeds we pay for. I'm in Montana on Verizon. I think they throttled everyone up here so their network would handle the new load from the iPhone 4.

OP, I've tried to get a straight answer to the same question before with no luck.... The question isn't whether data is unlimited or not (it is, on both 3g and 4g, we all know that), it's whether Sprint can tell a difference in the type of data the Netflix app uses on the phone vs. tethering Netflix on a computer.
I honestly don't know the answer, but my hunch is that they CAN tell the difference, but they haven't busted anybody on it yet. I'm sure navigating the Netflix website on your computer looks different than using the app on your phone because the Netflix app doesn't load all the same things as the website.
I think the crux of the question is whether Sprint can tell the difference between loading an identical website on the phone's browser vs. on a tethered computer.
Does anybody actually know?
Edit: Noticed that you were specifically asking about tethering to an iPad. I think there is probably a difference in the user agent, but the data itself probably looks the same.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well, I think the issue to be considered is, is tethering allowed at all under our TOS (I honestly can't remember)? Because I'm not sure, but I believe you are allowed to USB tether your evo; they just don't want you to use it as a wireless hotspot unless you pay the extra $30. So, can they tell if you're watching something on your Evo, or tethering to another device, possibly...but can they tell if you're watching on another device that's tethered via USB or wireless? I would think not. But I don't know, just trying to give some food for thought.
Being a sprint Rep in business care... on our end we cant see anything like this. To us, data is data. The only thing we differentiate with is on or off network (roaming)
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Your TOS does not allow any type of tether unless you pay for the tethering plan, wired and wireless.
Just as a suggestion, don't use your tether to download illegal content. If caught, double whammy, violating TOS and copyright laws.

Got a letter from crap att today

Got a letter today about tethering.. said that if I dont stop tethering they will change my plan to a tethering plan and cap me at 4gb... that's some str8 BS.. my question is how do they know I'm tethering and is there a way to block them from knowing I am... I'm not going to go from a unlimited plan to a capped plan for 15 dollars more of it was unlimited I would gladly pay the extra money. If anyone knows a way to tether still with out them knowing that would be sweet!!!

They can tell by the packet data, and as far as I know, there's no way for you to stop them from tracing it and finding out.
I would have thought that using a vpn would do the trick but Im not to sure, when I renewed mine I saw a few for about $40-$60 a year. I would say try tor but that might cause more problems then its worth
And as for them knowing how your doing it, the only way they would know is by packet sniffing(I think), but as android has the full internet I really don't no how they are able to tell the difference between you tethering and you using the browser on your phone.
how much data did you use?
I use and average of about 20-30gb a month... that's the reason I wont get a tethering plan cuz they cap it at 4gb a month. If it was unlimited I would have no problem giving them the extra 15 a month for the tethering
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Most I ever used was 72gb a month... I guess that's the reason my account got red flagged I guess lol...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
The softcap for even unlimited accounts is 5gb,
you used over a year's worth of data in 1 month, i'm surprised they didnt immediately cut you off without notice as that's what ISPs use to justify having caps in the first place (though the whole unlimited = 5gb thing is a load to begin with)
It's boarderline physically impossible for a phone/tab to consume that much data without the user being physically present the entire time.
You COULD hit it by nonstop streaming netflix for an entire month but that's much less likely then using tethering it and doing non web browsing/gaming/anything heavy bandwidth that a phone/tab cant do itself
More or less they wont bother looking for tetherers that stay below their soft caps, but once you exceed the cap by like 100% it doesnt matter if it's tethering or not they'll still be mad

Mk2, stock. It's under settings/connections/data usage. What's 4G? Hahaha! Or this lte?? Sounds made up ? it was 3g tethering. Well, you got caught! You were shoplifting from Sprint and they caught you. Either stop stealing or get cut off. It amazes me sometimes that people are surprised when they get caught. 8GB+ a month on 3G, its obvious that you are tethering. Do I tether, hell yes! But if Sprint caught me, I would stop tethering or pay for the service. With their new lifetime data plans they include 5gb of tethering in one of their plans for cheaper than any other provider. They caught you because of the desktop Netflix sever you were connected to opposed to the mobile Netflix server.
It's kind of funny how xda comes down hard on people that post links to warez or movie/music bootleg sites but they turn a blind eye to stealing from Sprint with hacked tethering. Anyway, good luck with Sprint and keeping your account.

Thanks, although I am pretty aware I was caught. I have used mass amounts of data before without tethering. Keeping Sprint won't be a problem as I haven't been tethering. I am not surprised at getting caught, it isn't like I'm crying about the audacity of this company telling me how I can/can't use my unlimited data. I was only asking if anyone knew if a 3rd party app shows the usage as data or tethering still. I will look into this plan you mentioned though.
