There are multiple discussions going on here, and it is confusing me a lot.
I just need a FULL step-by-step guide for removing the Telstra ROM and installing the latest official HTC ROM on my device since Telstra put a LOT of garbage on the phone, even at startup and launching the Opera browser.
So again, step-by-step is the best option and I am willing to donate $10 via PayPal to whoever can help me out.

What Telstra Rom version are you running?
I'm running 1.49.841.1 (71528) WWE. It is the default out of the box Telstra ROM which I sort of hate (too much garbage and branding, even when loading up Opera it says Telstra).
I just need a step-by-step guide on removing it and installing the Official HTC ROM on it.

actually the Step-by-step is pretty easy:
Step 1: Download and install HSPL. Your existing ROM version should allow you to do this with no fiddling at all. Just hook up the phone via USB, and run the HSPL executable.
Step 2: Select the ROM you want to use. I haven't tried any of the official ROMs, as I find the cooked ones to be more desirable. I only mention this is a step because depending on which ROM you want to use, you may need to flash the radio as well.
Step 3: If you are using a ROM requiring a new radio (which many of the newer ones do), and the ROM you are installing does not include a radio ROM (most cooked ROMs don't, but i believe many of the stock ones do), download and install the appropriate radio (please see notes below). Again, just connect the phone via USB, and run the radio installer.
Step 4: Download and install the ROM you want. With HSPL installed this is again as easy as connecting via USB and running the ROM installer. Don't worry too much about MTTY at this stage - you won't need it unless you reflash several times.
That's about it. I've reflashed mine dozens of times with no problems at all. As a footnote, some people on the forums have reported problems with flashed NextG phones not connecting to the internet properly after flashing. I have tried lots of cooked ROMs (and several radios too), and so far not one has affected my ability to connect to HSDPA. My experience has been that the 2.06 radios seem to work best, while the 2.07 and earlier 2.08 got really bad reception. 2.08.50.08_2 works beautifully with mine and gets very strong reception (with maybe a little more battery drain than 2.06). The only thing I have noticed is that the available bands displayed in 3G settings may not list the 850 band - this is cosmetic only and can be changed with a simple REG file, but really isn't necessary.

Yes I have actually read most of the stickies, there is only one problem.
I can't really put all the pieces of the puzzle in a good order, step-by-step. I just need to know how to do it step-by-step because right now they are all over the place and it is a little confusing.
@cheesekeeper: that is a really nice post, would you be able to add in a little more detail on how to do it such as how to install HSPL, which version and where to download.
Also, where would I download the official HTC ROM, because when I try the official website, I can't enter in my S/N because it says it isn't compatible with my device.

The tutorial on how to flash a new rom is a summation of all steps and is as step by step as you can get. You first need to see if you can get a copy of your original rom though, so you can return to this in the event of any problems and if you need to return your phone for a warranty claim.
Then as Cheeskeeper says you'll need to install hspl. Provided your current spl is 1.42.0000 then it is easy to do. Connect to usb and run the exe file.
Then you will need to flash your new radio. Most of the newer roms require either radio 2.07 or 2.08 - there is a radio thread also in the stickies. When you extract the file you will find a .nbh file which you will need to rename to RUU_Signed.nbh (if it isn't already), download the CustomRUU and put this into the same folder as the radio file above (only these 2 files). Run the CustomRUU and the radio will be flashed.
Then flash to your rom of choice. Again there will be a RUU file and a nbh file. You can just run the RUU file (again with just the RUU and nbh files in a folder) and the rom will be installed.
After flashing do a hard reset. When the phone boots up pull the battery out and while holding the vol up and down buttons in, switch the phone on and follow the instructions on screen. That's it, done.
If you want to keep to a stock rom though without changing your spl then you will need to use sspl.
You'll find all of the steps and tools in the link at the bottom of my signature. There is also a video of the process in the stickies.

Switch phone off, hold volume down button and switch on. It will boot into a three coloured screen and will show spl version.
Do a soft reset while holding down volume until u see the bootloader screen.
Report back to us with what it states....
Once complete, getting out of the bootloader screen requires another soft reset via the red button....

No, that's the right spl for using hspl. To get back to normal, either pull the battery or press the little red button under the battery cover, as stated by band27 above.

You'll find many stock roms here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
There is also a link to a Shared folder with many different versions. I believe the latest official is 1.66, but there are roms from T Mobile US going up to 2.10. For 1.66 you probably won't need to change your radio, but you will for the later roms. What radio version do you have?

Depending on the cooked rom downloaded. 2.07 and 2.08 releases extra RAM for your device to use and thus it's required if the cook decided to go that route.
I can send you a message privately about recommendations as to not offend cooks. My signature is one of the ROM's I use as another indicator to know what people are selecting.

Difference is that your phone does not have 3G or GPS. No reason why custom Rom's should not work.
So to flash a new Rom back-up your current Rom (see specific thread), apply hard SPL and select the Rom you like.....

Actually, one of the best ROMs I found here is based on your model. This one : New [ROM] [6.5.3_23541_WWE_Radio_3.53.25.20], uploaded by TangerineTractor. It's awesome and I recommend it to you. I'm using it now and it has only minor bugs that you/I can live with and although my model is T3333 after I flashed this ROM, my device says T3320 but everything works well. Try it!

and there is no possibility in near future because i am coordinating with Jockywilson for the HSPL from last 10 DAys and finally failed to use HSPL

Hello All,
As for Addicted2Xda, the HSPL worked for my device (T3320) too & that too in first go.
I dont know much about these things & this is the first device that I own. I verified the procedure & my device in the tri-color screen reads 1.28.Hard on the LHS side. So i believe that HSPL has worked. The only way to confirm that this works is to load a custom ROM(which i am ready to load) but before that I would like to
1. Backup my current ROM (i.e. the original one from HTC so that in event of any issue, i can claim warranty)
2. In case the custom ROM doesnt flash or work, I can load the original one.
Now I, dont know the procedure, requirements, pre-req on how to do it & hence I would like your expert help in this matter. I am ready to do it, its just that i dont know how to do it & I would like to learn.
So is it possible, for someone to post the stepwise procedure to
1. Backup the current ROM.
2. Load the custom ROM.
For our device Model T3320. I also have a reason to specify "our device Model T3320" in every request simply becaue I, have read most of the thread there & found out that there is much misleading information about this device T3320 here. For e.g. in some threads you find that the HSPL is not working in some you find that it works & other things.
My aim (request or what ever you call it) in humble manner, is to make it easy for guys like me (who are new / dumb at this) to use this beautiful forum, in much better manner.
It is possible that, my aim has already been achieved & I am doing something wrong (probably since I have not read all the rules), in which case I am due for a butt-whipping from all the senior members, which i am ready to take, provided, it becomes easy for guys like me to use this forum.
Long post, you all can thrash me for it & i would gladly take the heat, but please consider my reqeust.

Great job HD.... i am also sailing in the same ship with you. T3320 is my first Windows mobile, there are a lot of doubts and confusions with the device.
Most of the terms used in this site are complete jargons to me, it would be great if someone comes forward to enlighten newbies like us.
If you have Hard SPLed your phone, just make sure that your boot loader shows 1.28.Hard (meaning you have successfully HSPLed your device). Luckily you do not need to backup your original ROM as it is already available in the Roll up thread . WWE Asia is your ROM (if you are an Asian that is ).
if your HSPL shows as 1.28.Hard, you can flash any custom ROM you feel like. Just give a few of them a shot, you are bound to like one of them .
Once I flashed my ROM with a custom ROM, never bothered to revert to the Original crap, be it my Vox, my Gene or my Mega.
BTW if you are really interested to know the methods / jargons (well some of them), just pm me and I will be glad to help you - but please note that I have a real job, so it will take some time .

Once you hardspl your device, your warranty is void.. unless you find a way to put the original spl back on your device... whether you flash a custom ROM or not is immaterial.
But please note that it is my personal opinion, but:
1. I have a Vox for nearly 4 years now... never needed to send it to service centre... only had to change the battery once... that too last year.
2. I had a Gene for more than 1.5 years and sold it to a friend of mine (who used it for 6 months till he lost it)... without a glitch.
3. Using my touch2, flashed it within 1 month without caring for the world (BTW I am not a millionaire... if I was, I would go for TP2 ).
If you want to try new stuff... you have to take the risk.

I never knew my model was 3320, I used jockey's HSPL, been using custom ROMS from here, all works fine
Hi, I recently bought a T-mobile HD2, the unit isn't unlocked yet but I plan to unlock it and use it with AT&T, anyways I'm interested in running Android on the device. Would updating the HD2 from the HTC website which I believe is the official update website prohibit me in anyway from locking out Android or do anything negative in terms of customization of the HD2 unit?
I am running the updated rom 2.13 I am on t-mobile though and I am able to use android all day but once I restart it reverts back to WM. So I am not sure if this helps you...I was able to get everything running but the calls sounded robotic. I read I needed to flash to a new rom.

Well first, if you have the T-Mobile version of the phone, you do NOT want to use an update from the HTC site, that's for the euro version of the phone. The upgraded stock rom that you can use is available on T-Mobile's support page for the HD2.
Now, flashing to the correct updated ROM will not prevent you from doing anything...you'll still be able to unlock it later, you can still run Android, and you can still do any customizations you want. It's just a newer version of the stock ROM that originally came on the phone.

BTW, I read that you the T-Mobile Version of the HD2 doesnt use radios. What exactly are radios? I know they mean like firmware versions but what is the term. Also, do you guys recommend flashing a different WM rom or just keep the stock one? I tried to read about Android on the HD2 but I need some user advice. Is Android now stable enough for everyday use on the HD2? Also, could you use applications on the HD2 Android Rom? Will they work as they should? Lastly, why didn't the developers develop a Android rom that you could flash so you didn't have to reboot into it after every Hard Reset?

The US HD2 certainly does use radios, it just uses different ones than the euro version...in fact, that's most of the reason the wrong ROM could brick your phone, because of radio incompatibility. As you said, the radios you see referred to here are the firmware packages used to control the hardware radios in the phone (voice, 3G/EDGE, GPS, WiFi, BT). When you flash a different radio, you're applying a different set of settings to the way all that functions.
Also, do you guys recommend flashing a different WM rom or just keep the stock one?

That's generally completely a matter of personal opinion, some people will tell you that using a custom ROM is so critical that if you don't your grandchildren will walk funny, etc....whereas I am doing just fine running the stock ROM and just manually tweaking and hacking it to my liking, part by part. However, if you're going to be running Android on it, there's evidence that having a custom ROM vs the stock will help with some of the known problems with the Android ports that are available.

There's several builds available, and all of the current ones are remarkably stable compared to the first attempts. But, I believe that that there's still not any that are absolutely 100% fully-functional...each has some minor drawback or caveat, like BT or 3G or the camera not working right, but usually that's the only issue(s). Also, it's been a couple of days since I checked on those, so they may have come even farther since then. One common drawback to all of them though is the heaaavvvy battery drain...but this is also being addressed as quickly as possible. And yes, in every build the apps and marketplace seem to be working just as they would on any factory android install.
Lastly, why didn't the developers develop a Android rom that you could flash so you didn't have to reboot into it after every Hard Reset?

That seems to have become the final frontier for Android on the HD2...the release of a fully stand-alone ROM. Trust me, they are working on that, there's tons of members here drooling and waiting for that exact thing. It requires a completely different method of loading Android into memory, so there's a lot more kinks to work out

Wow, thank you so much sirphunkee, you sir are a scholar with your detailed response. Anyways, I apologize but I am intrigued by your response and more questions evolve. Once my HD2 comes I assume it will have a older ROM version and a official T-Mobile Update will be available for me. Now, I'm just wondering would I need to worry about what radios I need or will that be taken care of for me.
Also, I'm still a little confused on the whole radio aspect. For example, in this picture located here:

The image version is different one is 2.10.531.1 and the other 2.13.531.1. Are these the radio versions or is this like the ROM version. If so how do I find out what my Hd2s radio is? Also, I read before you flash a phone you need to install HSPL3 on the phone. This is what I'm told is a bootloader. But then Im also told that usually this bootloader is paired with official or leaked roms so that each SPL matches the ROM, so if I need to flash a HSPL3 on my HD2 before I flash a custom ROM do I need to redo it everytime? I mean the HSPL3 is supposedly hard bootloader that survives a hard reset so it won't be wiped from the device until I overwrite it so does that mean I need reflash it everytime I get a new rom so it matches the ROM?
Anyways, sirphunkee, you mention tweaking the stock ROM, would you recommend BSB tweaks or something else because I read about it and users have discovered that they lose some functions after tweaking their phones. Also would I need to install this if I just plan to tweak the original/stock rom?
Furthermore, is Android on the HD2 currently run over/on top of the WM OS so could that be the cause of the heavy battery drain? Also, is the Android OS on the HD2 booted through an exploit in the firmware of the HD2? If so could this be patched? Just a personal opinion of everyone here do you believe that Android on the HD2 that is flashed onto the HD2's NAND itself will be possible/could this final frontier be achieved?

Most of the HD2's built or shipped in the past 2 months have the newer ROM on them, but even if yours doesn't then yes you can just go to the T-Mobile site and get the newer one.
Both of the stock ROM's have the radio(s) included, so you don't have to worry about it if you just stay with one of those ROM's. If you flash a custom ROM it (usually) won't have a radio included, it'll just use whatever radio was already on your phone (i.e. whatever one came with the stock ROM originally). You can flash to different radio versions....ONLY ones that are clearly labeled as being compatible with the US HD2...doesn't matter if you're running a stock or custom ROM, but it does require HSPL first before a radio can be flashed.
Also, I'm still a little confused on the whole radio aspect. For example, in this picture located here:

The original stock T-Mobile US ROM (yes, the one I'm running currently) is 2.10.531.1 ("2.10" for short), and the newer one that's been released is 2.13...so that pic you linked there just shows the stock upgrade utility about to upgrade a ROM to the new version (with an included radio).
You can tell what ROM/Radio is on your phone by reading the little text that appears on the bottom of the screen during bootup, and you can also access that info through a settings option once the phone is running.
"WWE" = "WorldWide English"....just means that I have an english-based ROM. Other languages are available by applying ROM's specifically built for that language, but I honestly don't even know if any exist for the T-Mobile HD2, I think they're only available for the euro model.
Since it's very easy to flash the upgraded stock ROM, if your phone comes with the older one I would just suggest running that for a few days and see if it gives you any headaches....if so, then just go ahead and flash to the newer one. There's a number of threads in this section that discuss the differences in the stock ROM's, and the advantages/disadvantages of each. Regardless of which stock ROM you have, the process to flash to a custom ROM is the same either way (HSPL, etc).
Also, I read before you flash a phone you need to install HSPL3 on the phone. This is what I'm told is a bootloader. But then Im also told that usually this bootloader is paired with official or leaked roms so that each SPL matches the ROM, so if I need to flash a HSPL3 on my HD2 before I flash a custom ROM do I need to redo it everytime? I mean the HSPL3 is supposedly hard bootloader that survives a hard reset so it won't be wiped from the device until I overwrite it so does that mean I need reflash it everytime I get a new rom so it matches the ROM?

HSPL is "permanent", in the sense that it remains on your phone until you manually flash a different HSPL (like flashing back to stock SPL should you need to return the phone for warranty reasons). Once you have HSPL (yes, a hard bootloader) on your phone (HSPL3 being the latest/best to use), you can flash all the different custom ROMs or radios that you want, without having to apply HSPL again.
Anyways, sirphunkee, you mention tweaking the stock ROM, would you recommend BSB tweaks or something else because I read about it and users have discovered that they lose some functions after tweaking their phones. Also would I need to install this if I just plan to tweak the original/stock rom?

There a bunch of different things you can to to tweak a stock ROM, or to futher tweak a custom one, and BsB is just a nice tight convenient collection of some of the more common ones. I use BsB and don't have any issues related to it, but I also skip a few of the settings in it ("tap time" for example) that have caused issues for other users. Besides BsB, I also use HD2Tweak, JWMD Icon Changer, CHT/CHTE, as well as a whole list of other stand-alone tweaks that come in the form of cab files, or manual registry hacks...some are related to performance or function, while some are strictly visual or style tweaks.
Furthermore, is Android on the HD2 currently run over/on top of the WM OS so could that be the cause of the heavy battery drain? Also, is the Android OS on the HD2 booted through an exploit in the firmware of the HD2? If so could this be patched? Just a personal opinion of everyone here do you believe that Android on the HD2 that is flashed onto the HD2's NAND itself will be possible/could this final frontier be achieved?

I originially thought the same (that Android ran in parallel with WM and that was causing the batt drain), but from what I read it actually shuts down WM when it runs, so I guess that isn't the cause of the drain...but honestly I haven't been able to keep up with all the finer details of the Android porting that's going on. And yes, a version of Androd that will load straight to NAND at bootup is the final hurdle I was talking about, and that's exactly what a number of dev's are trying very hard to make happen....I suspect that a breakthrough in that is right around the corner, but I'm no dev so take that with a grain of salt!

Though, I have a question, how can I backup my contacts so that after a new rom install I dont need to relink their facebook accounts again? Basically, I don't have the same names for my contacts, I only have first names so I have to redo it manually one by one and I want to use activesync to do it but it's telling me I need Outlook. Why do I need Outlook? Isn't that a stupid outdated email application? Also, how do you remove all the bloatware like blockbuster from the HD2? Is flashing a custom rom the only option?
Also, I noticed a problem that windows marketplace apps seem to not install. I try to install Skyfire and I see the progress bar and it goes to like 3/4 of the way and never goes past that.
An unrelated question I want to install HSPL3 I have a SPL 2.10.000 on my Stock 2.13 T-Mobile I'm wondering since in the instructions it tells me, that:

*You can only select between SPL2.08.0000 or 2.08.HSPL. This is to avoid people with 1024LEO's installing an incompatable version and bricking their device*

If you're just going to put android on the phone, you don't need to mess with H/SPL at all...you only need that if you're going to flash to a custom winmo ROM before putting Android on there.

I think what that thread is saying is that having a custom ROM is what helps with the stability of Android, not just putting HSPL3 on there (unless that's buried in that thread somewhere that I missed...). But yes, putting a custom ROM on the phone would have the prerequisite of HSPL anyway.
I don't have a custom ROM or even HSPL on my HD2, and I'm currently using the Desire v5 build of Android on here. It seems to run very stable, but I haven't yet gotten a few things working on it (i.e. 3G)...I can't say if a custom ROM would make those things work, but I can say it doesn't ever crash or hang or seem to slow down at all.
I just wanted you to know that HSPL wasn't mandatory for you to be able to try out Android on your phone.

I try to update it and just says that its a connection error. And also my windows marketplace app installs seem to stall on the 3/4 complete and they never finish. I need some help and I would appreciate some feedback. Hope I wouldn't have to bore you with a lot of questions here. I just bought an HTC HD2 mobile phone (Model: T8585) WinMo 6.5 Professional with the following software specs:
SPL: SPL 1.66.0000 XE
ROM Version: 1.72.162.0 GER
Radio : 2.07.61.22_2
Protocol Version: 15.32.50.07U
OS Version: 5.2.21869
The problem is that the OS is in German and I want to change this to English. The phone is not locked to any network. I can use any mobile operator's simcard. In fact, I am currently using O2 simcard, although I bought the phone from vodafone germany. The thing is that it looks like the hardware is locked to vodafone's custom german OS, I tried to install an english OS and it failed with an error like "invalid ID" or something. I have read through a few threads here but I thought of explaining my situation here first before proceeding with anything.
So my first question is, can I use the HSPL3 in this case and what kind of ROM will I be able to flash my htc hd2 with after HSPL3? Secondly, can I still maintain my radio software without flashing a new one after hspl3? Thirdly, what's the difference between a cooked rom and a stock rom? Lastly, when a phone is bricked, does it also mean the phone is dead? Can a dead phone be reversed?
I am sorry but I'm a little bit new with HTC. It's my first smartphone actually The first 2 questions are the most important of all.

Fore your latest question about the deferent between Stock Rom and Custom Rom, well the there are deferent builders, but the idea is the same. building a Rom with the latest packaging and build on the needs of the followers.
So you will see and find lot of different, the biggest different between the custom Rom's is style!

Fore replaying your question about HSPL, this will depends of your choice of your Rom, some Rom builders will advice you to use HSPL2 (1.66) some will advice you HSPL3 2.08, ... it depends of the Rom, and the conclusion of the Rom builder based on his test's.

this method will work, but requires making a gold card which isn't free.
much easier to use hspl and then flash a stock rom in your preferred language.
if i were the op i would
1 install hspl2,(hspl3 offers nothing that hspl2 can't do, hspl3 is not "better" or a higher version, it just supports tmous phones, that's all. hspl2 is more useful to regular hd2 users.)
choose either 1.66.hspl or 2.08.hspl, doesn't really matter, you can change it whenever you like.
2 flash the rom of your choice.
you can also search for UK serial and download and flash the latest rom that way, again a search will find all you need

I have to admit that whoever created Hspl is just genius. I followed hspl3 installation guide and now I have been able to flash an European stocked WWE ROM (english) on my german carrier ROMed HTC. I took the S/N from one of the links Kurt provided. It's perfect now, although I am still a bit cautious and hoping nothing happens to my phone. I read a few scary threads here where some people, after some days, complained that their phones died after flashing with hspl. But I have the feeling that if one follows the steps correctly and consider the requirements keenly, probably nothing will happen. That's what I did.

i got static on my hd2 when i make calls. it was suggested that i change the radio rom to hopefully eliminate the static. i've never modded an hd2 phone before. i got a stock 6.5 on it. i hope its possible to change the radio rom without modding the stock 6.5. how do i change the radio rom? what are the steps?

You change the radio just like you do a ROM you can flash it via USB are flash it via SD card. Download thw Radio you want to flash and put your HD2 into bootloader by holding down the volume doen button while powering on your HD2. Connect it to you computer via USB and wait for the Serial in the white bar of bootloader to change to USB and then flash the radio.
Be adviced though with a stock ROM if it is a 3.14 ROM these ROMs are ver dependant of what radio version you have on the phone. They need a 2.15.50.14 or 2.14.50.02 radio. If you want to use any lower radio version than these you will need to flash a custom ROM, but they may still give you issues as most of the very resent custom ROMs are based of 3.14 stock ROMs
Do not forget my wartning from my other post about what radio versions not to flash.

hi, T-Macgnolia. good to hear from u again. ok, i read your message on my other thread. below are my current specs. but honestly, this phone shouldnt make any static calls whatsoever. its brand new. it should make CLEAR calls right out the box and i shouldnt have to flash it with any roms as a result.

it looks like i got the most current version of the radio and stock rom.
but to be honest, all this flashing sounds risky and complicated. i already owned TWO hd2s and they gave the same static. i sent the 1st one to htc for repair TWICE and it came back unrepaired. i bought a 2nd hd2 and it had the SAME static. at this point, i cant beleive that any hd2s are static free. are you guys sure u dont have static everytime someone talks on a call?

2. i honestly don't know for sure why you get static on every hd2 you have owned. the odds of getting a lemon so many times in a row are astronomical! mine works just fine. a friend and i brought our hd2s together from the same guy on the same day. his hd2 works fine also. my uncle has two hd2s, both of his work fine. another distant relative has an hd2, and given the pattern, you'd be correct if you guessed that his works fine too. no static on any of these hd2s!
3. are you using a TMOUS sim in the phone? have you tried another sim? have you tried demonstrating the problem to a TMOUS representative in-person?
4. is the device sim free, i.e. can you try another network's sim in your device? worth a shot...might be a long standing network/tower problem in your area.
anyway, cool down dude, don't be all paranoid, no one is harassing you in the true sense of the word...just slightly using the "stick" approach to nudge you into doing more reading and research of your own. it sure beats the whole process of posting->waiting->getting harassed->posting some more->waiting->so on. cheers

Member ASCIIker is correct as it could be your SIM card giving you issues as the HD2 has been know to act kind of funky with some SIM cards. I would see about getting a new SIM card and see if that may solve your issue. You have the current up to date ROM and Radio on your HD2 so it is more than likely a issue with something besides the HD2. Try the a new SIM and then post back here with the result.

Damn that sucks man. Have you tried taking your SD card out maybe you got something funky going on with it as I have heard of some people taking their SD card out and it solving weird problems like this.
I assume since you said it was a prepaid card you do have your HD2 SIM unlocked, Ialso know you-know-what what SIzm unlocking is as you talked about it in the first thread I seen you in.
If trying different radios and another SIM card has not helped I am not really sure what could be the issue, unless there is just a bad cell tower or something in your area that is only malfunctioning on the GSM bands the HD2 uses. I find it hard to believe you were unlucky enough to get two HD2s that had the same issue causing static. Not saying it could not happened but the chances astronomical.
Have you tried different radios? It has been busy for my this week and I forget if you have.

Hi, T-macgnolia. I really need to update my radio ROM. But based on my current stock ROM of 3.14, I’m limited to only 2 specific radio ROMS. I’m using one of them and obviously, I’m still getting distortion on calls. As a result, I want to install a custom ROM to install a lower version radio ROM that’ll hopefully remove distortion from calls. As I said before, I’ve never modded an htc phone before.
Since I got a TMOUS phone, you said not to install the following cuz I may brick it:

Yes do not flash any of those radios to your HD2 as they will brick your HD2, no might to it, they will brick it. look at the numbers I have highlighted and this is what you look for in radios that will brick a TMOUS HD2, any 2.05.50.xx radio will brick it too.
Ok the one ROM that comes to my mind when you say you want a ROM that is close to stock id the Energy ROMs as the ROM chef NRGZ28 has multiple ROM versions in that thread, all of wich IO highly recomend you just have to pick your flavor. Here is a link to the Energy ROM thread if you want to look at screen shots of all the ROMs as you might find one you like more than the ones he has that are close to stock. Here is a link directly to the post #3 which has the close to stock ROMs in it, you will probably want to go with the Eergy version are the Reference version from this post. to download click on the American flag and then select the most current version of the ROM you want.
Here is something you need to know it will help you know wich download to click on when you go to hotfix from clicking on the flag. This comes straight from post #1 of the Energy ROM thread, I added the red and blue writing to help you understand.
Looking at the download folder you will find two core versions of my ROM.
* The 21916 Build which is the most reliable and bug free release. It has the Start menu button at the top left corner! I recommend you start with this first!
This is the number for the closest to stock ROMs when you go to the download link.
* The 29017 Build that's the latest in the 6.5.X series with the Start menu button at the bottom left corner and big softkeys. These builds are not as stable or perfect, but they reflect the latest cutting edge technology from Microsoft. These are also much more finger friendly throughout.
This is number for the ROMs that are a little more modified but still close to stock if you use the ROMs I suggested.

Ok the one ROM that comes to my mind when you say you want a ROM that is close to stock id the Energy ROMs as the ROM chef NRGZ28 has multiple ROM versions in that thread, all of wich IO highly recomend you just have to pick your flavor. Here is a link to the Energy ROM thread if you want to look at screen shots of all the ROMs as you might find one you like more than the ones he has that are close to stock. Here is a link directly to the post #3 which has the close to stock ROMs in it, you will probably want to go with the Eergy version are the Reference version from this post. to download click on the American flag and then select the most current version of the ROM you want.

hi, T-Macgnolia. thanks for the info. i got a question. i like the 'Reference 21916 build' ROM. but, i dont like the big soft keys (action and menu) at the bottom. i like the way the soft keys look on the stock wm 6.5. can i customize it to make the bottom look exactly like the bottom of the stock wm?
do you know if this ROM is the latest version?
also, hows the battery life on this ROM? i need to make sure that this ROM doesnt drain the battery... this is very important for me.

WM6.5 Stock uses an older Windows Mobile Build.. Build 6.5.3 I believe was the when it started to be more finger friendly and in turn has the larger buttons.. So if you like how the older build looks then look for roms that have that version of WM6.5
Look in the WM6.5 Themes you might find something you like
As for Battery Life.. It all depends many factors... Some say the latest Radio has a higher battery usage while others say the complete opposite.. You must check which combination of Radio/ROM fits your location the best and if the battery is decent enough to stick with.. That why most people start out thinking they wont flash roms, but once they start having problems or want better performace they change their mind

21916 will give you start menu in the top left corner without the big ugly softkeys... thats the other build number.
It only shows that in the pic as it seems to be the most popular version.
Battery life with energy roms tends be less than some other roms as they are optimised for speed. Battery life is by no means bad though. You should still be able to make it through a full day without worrying about running out of juice. That said, there are other roms which will give you better battery life if this is a huge issue for you.
Also, not sure if this has been mentioned yet but when trying out different radios its apparently a good idea to test it out for at least 48hrs before you decide if its making a difference or not.....
Yes koolxx as canantroutman posted the 21916 ROM will give you the same soft keys at the bottom and the same start key at the top like the stock ROMs do.The ROM you like the Reference ROM is based of the latest stock ROM so yes it is the latest ROM. So far as battery life goes I can not give any first hand feed back on this as AI have not used that ROM. What I can do though is refer you to member facdemol's "Various ROMs power consumption" thread, link is below. If you go and read his first post you can see from his test resoults that all ROMs use just about the same power as far as power consumption goes, but he does say that all around the Energy ROM does best on power consumption. Go check the thread out it is a very informative thread and project he is working on.
