Hey everyone,
There are multiple discussions going on here, and it is confusing me a lot.
I just need a FULL step-by-step guide for removing the Telstra ROM and installing the latest official HTC ROM on my device since Telstra put a LOT of garbage on the phone, even at startup and launching the Opera browser.
So again, step-by-step is the best option and I am willing to donate $10 via PayPal to whoever can help me out.
Please reply quickly, I eagerly wait!

What Telstra Rom version are you running?
I'm running 1.49.841.1 (71528) WWE. It is the default out of the box Telstra ROM which I sort of hate (too much garbage and branding, even when loading up Opera it says Telstra).
I just need a step-by-step guide on removing it and installing the Official HTC ROM on it.
Waiting for more replies.
Read the stickies. They are most important.
Hi Steve,
actually the Step-by-step is pretty easy:
Step 1: Download and install HSPL. Your existing ROM version should allow you to do this with no fiddling at all. Just hook up the phone via USB, and run the HSPL executable.
Step 2: Select the ROM you want to use. I haven't tried any of the official ROMs, as I find the cooked ones to be more desirable. I only mention this is a step because depending on which ROM you want to use, you may need to flash the radio as well.
Step 3: If you are using a ROM requiring a new radio (which many of the newer ones do), and the ROM you are installing does not include a radio ROM (most cooked ROMs don't, but i believe many of the stock ones do), download and install the appropriate radio (please see notes below). Again, just connect the phone via USB, and run the radio installer.
Step 4: Download and install the ROM you want. With HSPL installed this is again as easy as connecting via USB and running the ROM installer. Don't worry too much about MTTY at this stage - you won't need it unless you reflash several times.
That's about it. I've reflashed mine dozens of times with no problems at all. As a footnote, some people on the forums have reported problems with flashed NextG phones not connecting to the internet properly after flashing. I have tried lots of cooked ROMs (and several radios too), and so far not one has affected my ability to connect to HSDPA. My experience has been that the 2.06 radios seem to work best, while the 2.07 and earlier 2.08 got really bad reception. 2.08.50.08_2 works beautifully with mine and gets very strong reception (with maybe a little more battery drain than 2.06). The only thing I have noticed is that the available bands displayed in 3G settings may not list the 850 band - this is cosmetic only and can be changed with a simple REG file, but really isn't necessary.
Please let me know if you need any help or advice - I'd be happy to help in any way that I can......
Hey,
Yes I have actually read most of the stickies, there is only one problem.
I can't really put all the pieces of the puzzle in a good order, step-by-step. I just need to know how to do it step-by-step because right now they are all over the place and it is a little confusing.
@cheesekeeper: that is a really nice post, would you be able to add in a little more detail on how to do it such as how to install HSPL, which version and where to download.
Also, where would I download the official HTC ROM, because when I try the official website, I can't enter in my S/N because it says it isn't compatible with my device.
Any ideas? Thx!!
Would anyone mind making a video tutorial on how to do this?
The tutorial on how to flash a new rom is a summation of all steps and is as step by step as you can get. You first need to see if you can get a copy of your original rom though, so you can return to this in the event of any problems and if you need to return your phone for a warranty claim.
Then as Cheeskeeper says you'll need to install hspl. Provided your current spl is 1.42.0000 then it is easy to do. Connect to usb and run the exe file.
Then you will need to flash your new radio. Most of the newer roms require either radio 2.07 or 2.08 - there is a radio thread also in the stickies. When you extract the file you will find a .nbh file which you will need to rename to RUU_Signed.nbh (if it isn't already), download the CustomRUU and put this into the same folder as the radio file above (only these 2 files). Run the CustomRUU and the radio will be flashed.
Then flash to your rom of choice. Again there will be a RUU file and a nbh file. You can just run the RUU file (again with just the RUU and nbh files in a folder) and the rom will be installed.
After flashing do a hard reset. When the phone boots up pull the battery out and while holding the vol up and down buttons in, switch the phone on and follow the instructions on screen. That's it, done.
If you want to keep to a stock rom though without changing your spl then you will need to use sspl.
You'll find all of the steps and tools in the link at the bottom of my signature. There is also a video of the process in the stickies.
I'd suggest starting by looking at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
This pretty much explains everything you need to get started, and has links to HSPL in the first post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
This one contains download links to most of the radio ROMs in the first post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
This has links to many of the stock ROMs. All of these are stickies in this group so they are pretty easy to find. If you want to try a cooked ROM instead (I'd suggest taking a look) you can find posts and links right throughout this forum - the most popular ROMs are always within the first 1-2 pages of posts......

Switch phone off, hold volume down button and switch on. It will boot into a three coloured screen and will show spl version.
Do a soft reset while holding down volume until u see the bootloader screen.
Report back to us with what it states....
Once complete, getting out of the bootloader screen requires another soft reset via the red button....
Hey,
My SPL is 1.42.0000 XE <=== does that XE count?
Now how do I get out of this screen without wrecking the device (does it wreck it?)
Thx!!

No, that's the right spl for using hspl. To get back to normal, either pull the battery or press the little red button under the battery cover, as stated by band27 above.
Ok done, now what do I do?
I think I will be installing HSPL right now, is that correct?
Then what do I do?

LOL.....the instructions were already given to you on page 1 of this thread.
Just please read <<HERE>>
Steps:
1) Hard SPL
2) flash radio
3) flash rom
If Cooked rom is based on 2.10, the 2.07.50.xx or 2.08.50.xx radio's are required.
Hey,
Yea lol, ok. But I am a little confused.
Firstly, I want to install the latest official HTC ROM. Where can I download it from?
Secondly, is flashing the radio ROM really necessary for the latest official HTC ROM?
Thx!

You'll find many stock roms here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
There is also a link to a Shared folder with many different versions. I believe the latest official is 1.66, but there are roms from T Mobile US going up to 2.10. For 1.66 you probably won't need to change your radio, but you will for the later roms. What radio version do you have?

Depending on the cooked rom downloaded. 2.07 and 2.08 releases extra RAM for your device to use and thus it's required if the cook decided to go that route.
I can send you a message privately about recommendations as to not offend cooks. My signature is one of the ROM's I use as another indicator to know what people are selecting.
I'm looking to install HSPL and a custom rom on my hd2.
Can't seem to find answers to my questions because there are so many random threads posted... and I have already tried using the search option to find the answers to my questions... so I'm left with just posting another thread!
1. What is the difference between the "HTC Leo: HD2" and the "HTC HD2" besides one is from the UK and the other one is in the USA? Why do they call one the LEO?
2. When I am in the bootloader screen checking the SPL version of my HD2, how the crap do I exit the bootloader? Is the only option to pull the battery? That's kinda silly.
3. The tutorial for flashing your first rom has a title of the following: [TUT] Flashing your First GSM USA 1024LEO ONLY!! (For Noobs)
This thread is located in the Tmobile USA HTC HD2 and the title says GSM USA....referring to the Tmous HD2 and then it says 1024LEO ONLY!!! I know I have the 1024MB version of the USA HD2 but why does the title say 1024LEO then? They are two different HD2's last time I checked and there is a whole other forum for flashing the LEO's rom. Is this a typo in the title?
4. What's the difference between HSPL2 and HSPL? Which one do I use? In the original HSPL thread there are two different zip files to download.
I will remember the rest of my questions after I get these ones answered. Any help is appreciated!
1. LEO is code name of Touch HD2
2. That the only way I know of.
3. See 1
4.you only use HSPL2_1024_RUN.exe

They are both Leos. The USA model has 1024mb ROM size and has green call button and red end button. The euro/uk model has 512mb ROM size and all buttons are white... no color.

The USA HD2 with 1024rom has to use a rom that has a 2.xx base because the earlier roms made for the 512mb rom devices doesn't recognize the 1024mb rom and that causes problems. Same thing with the radios... you need the T-Mo USA radios because of the updated specs. The euro 512mbROM HD2s can use any rom or radio... it's just our newer updated USA HD2s need ROMs and Radios that recognize the updated specs. Otherwise, they are the same devices and can use the same apps, etc.
if it helps, i followed the noob guide and flashed hspl and a rom successfully. I'm about to reflash an updated version of the rom. just read the directions carefully and you probably won't go wrong. i say probably because i almost bricked my phone because i was an excited idiot, skimmed through the instructions and downloaded the wrong hspl. lol. pm me if you have any questions dude.

Also I noticed that you asked a few questions and you stated that you have a US model so these links are for you:

Radio's see here:

The thing to remember with Radio's is that you must use a .50 radio. This is what kills almost all US HD2 phones. if you look at the radio code you will see either a .51 or a .50 in the numbers. .51 = 512 RAM .50 = 1024 RAM.

All custom ROMs which ARE NOT BASED ON 2.08+ T-Mobile ROMs WON'T WORK ON 1024LEO. (This means that you have to HSPL your phone in order to use custom ROM's)

dont confuse ROM and RAM
Just remember two basic rules on a TMOUS version:
don't flash anything below a 2.10 based ROM
don't flash a xx.51.xx radio
and everything else will be fine. Those are deadly to the TMOUS version. The Euro version seems so much more flexible in this regard.

Wow. Your explainations were very clear. I was wondering if you could provide just a bit more assistance. I did the new t-mo upgrade. I like everything about it EXCEPT for the touch sensitivity. It is the worst. I am going to break the screen trying to get it to respond. I read several places that if you did the upgrade then you CAN'T flash to a custom ROM. Is that true? I not, could you assist me with flashing off o the upgrade to something else? Thanks in advance.

Dude I am so glad you asked these questions, I was searching all the posts trying to find the EXACT answers you were looking for. It would help to include a simple explaination on how to tell the two versions apart, and a simple instruction on entering the bootloader to find the version PB81120 AND SPL version, it is even more confusing when I could not and still can not find anywhere on my phone where it says 1024mbROM,(mine says flash size 1024mb) or where it says(1024leo). I am a noob but I found the guide for noobs hard to follow so I am glad I found answers here, I am sure I will get pounded by others who tell me why I should have been able to understand it better or why I should not even try to flash a rom if I am that dumb, hey, I am just trying not to brick my phone here, I dont want to seem ungrateful, I do appreciate everybodys hard work on this site and I realize they work for donations. So I do want to give a big thanks to all the contributors for a great site, I just thought I would also let somebody know how much this posting has helped me too.

Quite why people are so obtuse when it comes to installing a ROM is beyond me. Sam is right, go to the ROM development forum and read the flashing thread it literally WALKS you step by step through the entire process and covers all eventualities. Why people expect XDA to help them when they can't be bothered to read even as far as the stickys is beyond me.

The first link is for the HD2 my friend, if you flash another rom not designed for your phone probably you will end with an expensive brick.
The second one, is for the snap...but it's for the sprint version you should check out which version do you have. You will not need hspl to flash your stock, if you get an error while flashing that probably isn't the stock rom for your device.
Moved to general as not rom development.

Download an old but official HTC rom for your HD2.
Flash your Rom with it. Only official ROM can flash back to a lower spl.
After that, hardspl with HSPL 3. Flash the same radio again.

The very first thing to do is get an acctivation code from MS, Before you waste 6hrs putting in the wp7 rom then finding out like some off the other guys that they cannot get a activation code.
Once you have your code (make sure to ask them to email it to you) You can use it 3 times.
Then come back and you will be guide on.

I would like to know too!!! I will get new HTC HD2 soon
This is exactly the crap thread. You are guys too lazy to go through the forum, search, read the posts and do some homework. Instead of that you are screaming here PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, and you are expecting, that somebody else do the work.
So my advice:
Search, read, try, and then, if you have real problems come here and ask questions...

It will give you every thing you need to get your HD2 flashed prior to WP7 (And always hit the thanks button when you finish downloading from these threads I post to you.)
Once all complete get back.
Russ
If you want to go ahead and send me your phone, I'll put WP7 on it for you and send it back, I promise

thanks for your help

From a stock,
1) Hard SPL your phone
2) Flash a different radio, preferably 2.15 (is the best I've heard, and I use it)
3) Flash Magldr (I think 1.12)
4) Load the LEO70 rom
thanks for your help

I agree with you "homer.web" , Don't expect people to do the searches for you. I assure you most of the links you are seeking are already stickied in HD2 ROM Development section. Members here doesn't give you the step by step guide, but instead they give you the procedures and you should search for the term in the forums !
For HSPL and SPL and what not check the HD2 6.5 ROM Development, for MAGLDR and WP7 ROM and instructions check WP7 Development under WP7.
Members here doesn't make step-by-step guides to be ignored, just go find'em by yourself !
