Problems when it comes to new 32gb micro sd card - Vibrant General

ok so i got my 32gb mirco sd card in the mail about 4 days ago and nothing but problems cause my sd card is still BLANK.... I connect it to the computer and transfer all my music to my sd card in a folder called Music and in that folder i have all my artist then in album folders then lastly all the songs so yes i like my folders organized but heres where ive been having the issue i unmount the sd card and when its done scanning media files on sd card the music folder is all thats left and all artist album folders are gone along with music files ive been trying for 4 days and same out come ive reformated the sd loads of times and still no luck and the spec on the vibrant says it can handle 32gb card ive looked every where i can for an answer to this issue but no luck only thing i found was that someone was having the same issue on the htc Incredible and its getting really aggravating considering i spent $40 on the sd card which yes is a bargain compared to tmobiles $80+ for the sd card but still I want to know if anyone else has had this issue and or knows how to fix it right now i am currently doing another reformat of the card and with the quick format unchecked and its been going for like 20 minutes and looks about 5% done so far so if i have any luck with this I will let you all know when im done other then that if any one can help please do.....

Remember the phrase to good to be true? $ 40 for a 32 gb? You probably got ripped. Try formatting it for 16 8 4 2 or even 1 to see what you really got.

Don't trust what T-mo reps say. Most of the time when they can't answer your question they make up the most obvious answer. I'm sort of thinking that it is the card itself because if the phone didn't support it, you most likely would get an error.

all the card says on it is microSD HC 32GB nothing else but its labled the same way my 8gb card is and the 8gb works fine only thing is with 24gb total im out of memory already with all my music i want on it but tmobile says according to their user manuals the tmobile version supports up to 16GB

The phone supports Micro SDHC, which is a standard. The same way any old camera made before 512mb, 1gb, and 2gb cards even existed can support those sizes, so too can any phone that supports MicroSDHC support 32gb cards. I am almost 100% certain that it is not actually possible for the phone to not support a 32gb card. Any issues you are having are likely something else. I recall a similar problem with my 8gb miscro SDHC card in a sansa Clip+, it wouldn't copy more than a certain amount onto the card before windows would just stop and fail. It was just a software issue in how I set something up. You are likely running into a similar problem.

Did you format the card on the phone? If not, try that.

Not to be a downer, but $40 is quite a steal for a 32GB microSDHC card, as they are about $100 more than that. It is likely not a 32GB - Have you tested using a computer and formatting it and filling it up with say 32GB of data (music, videos, etc)?

I have a 32 Gb sandisk micro sd card that i put in my vibrant the first day I got it and haven't had a single issue with it. I didn't even have to format it. I just dropped it into the phone and transfered my music and movies an such to it no issues at all.

My 8 Gb drive, as formatted by the Vibrant, shows up as two logical drives when mounted on my computer via the USB cable. Is this the case for you? On my Windows computers, those happened to be assigned as the E: and F: drives. Your assingments may vary.
I noticed when I was copying the Movies folder containing Avatar to this card that I needed to copy it to the logical E: drive, which was otherwise empty. It did not work when I copied the folder to the subfolder called /sdcard on the logical F: drive. But other simple data files, copied to the root of F:, show up on the phone's SD card and are accessible.
So maybe media folders are treated special somehow? I don't fully understand. But if you do see two drives, you might try copying the Music folder to the other one.

I'm not sure what's going on in your particular case as far as what you can copy where, but the reason you have two volumes showing up is because you're seeing both the interal 16GB and the microSD card (which Avatar is on).

As stated above the vibrant definitely supports 32gb. Have you tried the card in another phone?

eh, I don't want to hate directly, but knowing the guy's luck it's probably a class 2 or something if it's that low on price.
kelmerp is correct as to the other reason - the guy is not looking at the right share. When the phone is mounted via usb, you will see 2 shares on your pc.

Post the source if you feel it's reliable...

Umm... Class 2 is all that's out right now for 32GB as far as I know. And they're running upwards of $100 easy. The Sandisk one is the cheapest at $99 from Verizon.

I bought a 32g off of ebay and it was ~85 dollars and it works perfectly. I stuck it in the phone formatted and then transferred everything over. Sandisk.

32gb Micro SDHC woes

Hi all,
Apologies for the rambling post below but....
I would like to report major problems I have experienced with 32gb Micro SD cards with a number of Android devices, and most recently my new Desire HD.
The problems occur when I copy across my music library to the 32gb SD. It is a mixture of MP3 and AAC (mp4) files and the initial amount of data is a minimum of 5gb. All the data copies across fine, as I can tell from the available space under settings/SD & phone storage. However, the stock music player app does not recognise roughly half the music, and some of the music it has recognised produces a "cannot play this file format" message if i try and listen to it.
Using Astro File Manager, I then browse to the location on the SD card where I have copied the music and find that the music (that was not recognised) , is not physically on the SD card (despite the available space remaining suggesting the files are there).
If I then copy new music to the Desire HD on the SD card, the music copies over but the same scenario above occurs.
If I keep the SD card in the phone for 24 hrs the phone will crash numerous times and the only way I can turn the phone back on is to remove the battery.
I have tested 4 different 32gb Micro SDHC cards, 2 Class 4 SanDisks and 2 Class 6 Kingstons, same results with both.
Phone-wise, I have tested this on an HTC Wildfire and Samsung Galaxy S (running Android 2.1) and an HTC Desire and HTC Desire HD (running 2.2). I will test on a Samsung Galaxy Tab tonight.
Also, I have tested the above after formatting the SD card in the devices themselves, and from formatting the SD card from Windows 7 using FAT32 and 32kilobytes as the allocation unit size.
Has anyone else experiences issues with 32gb Micro SDHC cards? FYI, the stock 8gb Samsung SD card that comes with the Desire HD works without any issues whatsoever.
regards
Michael
I'm so glad you've posted these findings, I was contemplating buying a 32GB microsd card but could not justify paying more than twice the amount it costs for a 16GB card. I think I'm going to settle with a 16GB card now.
EDIT:-
Just thought about something, where are you doing this from, Windows 7 ? There is a Microsoft Windows update that fixes a problem with Windows 7 not reading 32GB or higher memory cards properly.

Very interesting and useful info for who tend to use 32GB microsd with DHD.
Is there anyone using 32 GB without any problem? We need to find out if DHD has a common problem with 32 GB or not.

I have one I got last week thats working perfect! 32GB class 4 from mymemory.co.uk (their own card, no manufacturer name).
I've copied a bunch of music and some HDTV episodes onto it so it's almost full, all files are definitely there and I've had no issues with playback. Using Astro too.
Copied them over on a Windows 7 system with Android Manager WiFi, I've used the regular USB cable once or twice which works fine too.
I also have a 32gig card.
Initially I had similar problems to you bit sure what fixed it, HTC sync works and I did reboot one or twice, but its all working

No issues with my Integral 32GB Class 4 card.
Try formatting with 32k cluster size...I've read that it helps with stuttering video issue, maybe it also helps with this...
Then nice to know it's a spesific problem not common. Thanks for the feedbacks guys.
I'm having exactly same problems as post 1. Someone suggested it might be a fake 32GB card so I'm currently running h2testw on it to see.

That was the case with my 32GB one. h2testw reported only the first 1.8GB usable.
I suspect these are factory rejects being snatched before being destroyed/recycled.
I've been using a Kingston Class 4 32Gb card for 2-3 months now with absolutely no problems. Almost full of music and Sat Nav maps, and not even a hint of problems. Make sure you buy from a reputable, or at least traceable, supplier!
Sounds like the card is faulty or fake, ALWAYS test with H2TESTW and format it with Panasonic's SD Formatter app BEFORE using it with any device! Too many dodgey cards out there!

Mind if I ask where the hell did you find 32GB class 6 Kingston or other cards.
I can't find anything higher than class 4. Also on their official page there aren't any 32gb microSDHC class 6+.
Ho everybody this is the answer. I have bought over 10 32gb micro SD cards from eBay and amazon.
Some would not even format. Dome would format but while trying to transfer the files half way through the card would fail and would not be able to format or only see the card as 8gb.
Some would format and transfer would be good but by the time I would check for the data on the card the data would have disappeared.
Let me make one thing clear ALL THESE CARDS WERE CHEAP NOCK OFFS AND CHEAP QUALITY FROM CHINA.
I payed from £25 to £80 from eBay and amazon and they all failed.
I bought ONE FROM SCAN.CO.UK and it worked first time and still works with no issues thank God.
IT IS NOT THE DHD IT IS THE CARDS.
The reason they all failed and why its so hard to believe is because not everyone that buys the cards would transfer so much data at the beginning which is why the card failed, the huge amount of data being transferred showed the true defects in the card.
I really hope this helped.
Kind regards
Imran

32GB Class 4 Micro SDHC card problem

i bought a 32gb class 4 for my hd2 so i can run android off it, but when i insert the card into the phone. the phone freezez, wtf. i left it in there for half an hour and still nothing, the phone is still frozen. after i took the card out the phone unfroz and was working. i put it in my brothers HD2 and same problem, it freezez. i put the card in to a htc desire z and the phone picked it up, it looked through the files on the memory card. why the hell dont it work on my HD2. Now i bought this card from ebuyer. i hope it works man:

any ideas why it wont work and makes my fone freeze. looks like i will have to save the 32gb for a dual core nvidia tegra 2 phone.
does it freeze when you launch android or just freezes in winmo 6.5?
if it only freezes when you are launching android, backup the card then format it in winmo (you'll find under settings) and restore all files to it and give it a try

That link takes you to a 16gb class6 SDHC card made by Lexar.
It also happens to be the highest capacity card they sell on that site. Trust me.. I looked.
Download h2testw, run a full test of you micro sdhc card and make sure it's functioning properly.

Just in case someone is still having issues, this is what I experienced.
I bought a Sandisk 32gb micro card, formatted (quick) with windows, put it in the HD2, and had nothing but problems (many hours of trying different things) trying to watch AVI's, or even install larger CAB's.
I read here about the SD assoc. having a free format program (SDFormatterv3.0.zip), I downloaded it, installed it on my WIN7 machine, did a quick format, not much change, did a full format (took over 3 hours!) card now works perfectly. Amazing.
I sure this is not the case with all Micro cards, but it sure helped me. Oh, I did the formatting while the card was in the phone, the card was set as "Disk Drive". (settings, other, USB)
I can vouch for the official format program fixing problem cards.
Sent from my Atari 600XL using cassette tape and a stamp.
Well an update. The program does a very good job on formatting the micro card, but it does not detect a fake card! H2testw.exe does, excellent little program. Turns out my 32gb card was 2Gb! Windows and the SD format program both reported it Ok, but If I wrote over 2Gb, files disappeared or didn't work. (doah) just couldn't believe I got ripped. Anyway, buyer beware, and check those cards before you loose important data.
32 gig card
As far as I know the hd2 does not support any higher then a 16 gig micro sd.
It supports sdhc so up to 32GB.

Well I finally locked onto a 32gb card. Got it from Buy<DOT>com, quite a few for under $50 now. Ebay... <sigh> 99% of them are fake, defective or scams.
My Tmobile HD2 runs great with a class 4 32gb card.
All I can say is avoid Ebay for your cards.
For those running on Tmobile firmware (I do still) there is a new ROM release that radically improves battery life, I am getting 100% more op time. I am not a heavy user. (5 days now, vs 2 before)

Using 64 GB SD

Does anyone has trying to use a 64 SD in the note ? I had tried a Samsung without any luck. It can be read and also save some music and videos but after using 5 GB it start failing.
Yes
I use Samsung 64Gb MicroSD without any problem
I am using a SanDisk Extreme Plus 64gb MicroSD card in my Note Pro. Works great, no complaints.
No problems here either. Look like a bad card maybe. I would try it in a PC to see if you get the same results. If so then it's probably a bad card. There are counterfeit cards out there that also give the results you have.
I agree, a defective card. I'm using a 128 GB card bought from a chinese retailer for 30 € and no problem so far.
I use a 64gb microSD. The first one I tried only lasted a few weeks and then I started getting errors. I replaced the card and all was well for about 6 months. Then I started getting errors saying the card was corrupt whenever the battery would drop below 50% state of charge. I finally sent the tablet in for repair (under warranty). They told me there was a battery terminal connection that was broken and they also update "software". Not sure what that was since I was already on the latest update. The only thing I can figure is it was some form of firmware update. When I got it back it seemed to fine and I have not had a problem in the last few weeks since it was returned.

Never had a issue on the Note, with the V20 km.about to just use it for the DAC only n go back to Note 5. Permissions in Google have been charged to give permission but still cant saved edited photos
I recently had a Samsung sdxc evo class 10 fail (suddenly couldn't write anything despite having 80gb of free space left).
Did manage to copy the data off of the card but I ended up having to get a new card, this time I went with SanDisk class 10. So far so good.
Wonder if there is a defective batch going around (I purchased mine about a year ago)

I have the same card from Samsung,( it was free with the Note 7). Unfortunately, I'm still having problems playing videos. I've tried VLC and MX, but both only play some of the files from SD. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Definitely have to format. If you'll notice the card is assigned I don't know what to call it and filesystem may have been handled differently. I had to do same. Took time but works proper.

I solved this by moving the SIM from the main slot to the side slot (dual SIM model). Weird thing was that anything < 64 gig would read fine, larger SD cards wouldn't. Only thing i can think of is a design flaw whereby the SD card is getting pushed up and not making contact properly due to the SIM underneath it. Try taking the SIM out and seeing if it will read/format/re-read it then?

S7 & S7E killing my SD Cards....GRR! Any ideas?

I don't know if it's something I'm doing, but this has happened twice now (both with an S7 and now my new S7E).
I bought my S7 with a SanDisk Extreme 64GB Micro SD. After a few months, I kept finding that on taking a photo, it was diverting to internal storage over the SD card. Rebooting sorted it for a while, but it reached a point where it locked itself and could only be read, but not written to. I sent it back to Sandisk and they issued a replacement.
Since then I've now got an S7E (I was part of the N7 scandal). I'm using the replacement Sandisk card I received and today EXACTLY the same thing has happened. The card has become completely locked. I can see the data that was on it from the S7E before it locked up, but I can't write to it. In fact, I can't even format it. If I put it in my PC I can read everything on it but otherwise it's bu**ered.
Where am I going wrong with my S7's and SD cards. Any ideas?
Cheers.
I had the same thing happen. My Sandisk 128gb got corrupted, sent it back for replacement to Sandisk. Then the replacement got effed. Then I bought a Samsung Evo 128gb and it got locked somehow. There are files on it that I can see with a PC, but when in a phone shows as corrupted. Cannot format, cannot do anything with it. I got another 128gb Samsung from Amazon and so far is working. I am worried it will do it again.
Can i ask which version of s7/edge you guys have ? I got the exynos model (n7 scandal as well) I popped in a 128 gb evo card, I'm worried it might do that to me :/

Mine is also Exynos!
Well for me, it started when I had the AT&T 935A S7E with the SanDisk, but I now have the Exynos S7E and it is the one that the Samsung micro SD went bad on. So both models caused issues. I do flash custom roms and things and know the risks, but have never had this happen on any of my S2, S3, S4, S5, or S6 phones.
I got the same issue but I think its the card with the HC card I didnt have problems but with the XC card it got corrupted...
Try a different SDCard manufacturer to SanDisk?
Possible the replacement was from a faulty batch of cards the original was also from
Think I'm using Kingston
Did you read my post? It happened to me with a Samsung too.
Same issue here with Silicon power 64gb.
Might be the whole XC thing.... I have an old 32GB Samsung EVO knocking around. I'm gonna see if I can kill it haha! Otherwise I'm going to have to send the dead one back AGAIN.
I had te same issue on 3 SanDisk cards all SDXC, I concluded to stick with SDXC, got for the extreme versions.
I tried everything to recover or format.

Doesn't work. Already tried that.
There is a command you can use on dos that fixes read write or bad partition errors on sd cards . Check this link

Yes that's what's I've run already on my cards. I have tried everything I can find. I do work in the IT field though I'm not a programmer. The closest I've come to getting somewhere is using an application called testdisk. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk It will help you recover any files lost but that isn't my problem. The one thing I will say is I'm pretty sure all mine have been formatted as eXfat vs fat. I had one go bad when I was messing around with adoptable storage.

I also used to work in the IT field! I spent about 8 hours last time trying to repair the card the first time around - in the end I just sent it back to Sandisk. You need to request an RAM on their web site.
And yea, no CHKDSK /f, or DISKPART CLEAN will touch it. It's so odd how the phone can render a card useless - yet still be completely readable.
I have an sandisk extreme pro 64Gb sdxc since april. Only use it for photos and downloads, sometimes to listen to music. It still works flaweless *knocks on wood*
Have you guys formated the card in the phone? This cause some really bad performance for me, i formatted it with my pc and SDCardformatter and the performance is better now. But sadly not as good as out of the box. Maybe samsung screw something up while formatting with the phone?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app

When this happens, the card is locked. If I format the card in the phone it claims to have worked - yet nothing has actually been formatted. If I use SDCardformmatter (or Windows, or any of the 3rd party tools) they all fail. "This disk cannot be formatted"!
Yes I have put them in the phone, and my card says corrupted when in the phone, yet works fine (other than being write protected) in my PC. I did request an RMA on my first 128gb SanDisk, then it happened to the replacement, then it happened to the Samsung 128gb, and I am on my 4th 128GB which is a Samsung EVO Select. I thought it might have had something to do with not doing the full wipe of data in TWRP recovery before switching roms. It does say doing full wipe removes encryption as well as wiping data.
