Which ROM are you using? - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey all, I'm pretty new here so forgive me if this is a repeated thread though after a search I couldn't find a similar topic, not since last month at the very least. Having just switched from my Milestone to a Galaxy S I was wondering what set up long-time users had found was best for their handsets.
I didn't get any experience with the Milestone due to the infamous locked bootloader but I expect that one of the first things I'll do with the Samsung is to gain root access and flash the firmware, however, having been unacquainted with that aspect of the dev community I was hoping for tips. Basically, which did you find to be the best ROM for you and are there any tweaks/mods/fixes that you consider essential? I'm particularly looking for recommendations based on a Froyo setup.
Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Fastest/stable ROM avalible for my G1

Hi, I recently purchased a HTC Dream (aka G1) and am looking to replace the stock ROM with a more snappy and stable third party one (it has been rooted already). What currently is the best replacement ROM in terms of speed and stability?
Thanks in advance

It's a matter of opinion, try them all and find what you like.
There has been TONS of threads opened up JUST like this. Do research, read ROM threads in the development section for user feedback to compare, and just flash away.
I personally use SuperD which a lot of people love. But in cases of wanting a solid ROM I recommend trying Cyanogen, his work is often built upon by other devs for their own custom ROMs and he doesn't release a bunch of little updates that make you have to flash every 3 days so its nice.

[Q] Best ROM for battery life performance etc

Hiya guys,
I have been using an S3 for the last year or so and then recently migrated to an S4. I was using Wanam ROM until he recently announced that he was no longer gong to support phones he does not own. i understand this standpoint but am gutted all the same by his decision as i found his ROMS suited me very well indeed all round.
I am looking for something as functional but bloatfree and something that performs both in power and battery terms.
Is there any suggestions from you guys as to a new ROM choice for me bearing these requirements in mind?
I have had a lok around the forum and am looking at CM and Echoe at the moment but am very unsure as to my next move, im sitting here itching to flash this new phone and would appreciate your input.

There's no such thing due to different phone setup/phone usage/etc. Try a bunch of roms until you find one that suits your needs (mods will be closing this thread soon).
Thread closed as its a Best ROM thread.

[Q] What would you get???? Gurus!

Hi all,
There are a lot of super smart users on this site. They can and usually seem
to find solutions to most cell phone issues. My question to you all is:
Currently have the S4, ATT, stock. I will be upgrading later this year.
Which phone would you recommend to me with these uses:
Fast, no lag- No bloat apps- Fast upgrades- Probably won't root.
Use phone for everyday normal usage, not a gamer.
My choices so far:
S5, Z2, New Nexus when released!
Leaning to to a Nexus or possibly a GPE of the above choices.
Any guidance would be helpful.
Thanks, Ken
I'm biased, loving the nexus 5. Part of it's appeal is how easy it is to root and mod. But with that said, I'm running stock rooted and it's great just like that.

Read elsewhere, read everywhere, this is only a decision you can make based on what you need and want.
As XDA is not a support site, members are expected to do their own research into these matters.

[Q] Looking to get started with Rom cooking / Development, hoping for some advice!

Hey All,
Long time lurker and consumer of ROMs for previous phones (Most recently the Razr) and recently decided it was time for an upgrade. I did my homework and it looks like the Galaxy S5 is the best phone out there in terms of features. I have grandfathered data on big red for now and I'd kind of like to keep it. I almost switched away because of how horrid VZ is being about locking their phones down, but I came across the Dev edition and figured I'd give it a go. It should be here Friday.
I've noticed that there's a flourishing community for the naively unlockable S5's but no such luck for the VZ phones, and that seems like a gap that I might be able to fill. I have a basic background into the parts of a ROM (Kernel, Bootloader, Libs, Recoveries) and do have a solid foundation of programming knowledge, but I have never built a rom nor ported one (nor written an app), so I'm popping a big cherry here.
I'm doing my research (xda-university, developer.android.com and some threads I found ) by searching and have a lot to learn, but I wanted to get some dev's perspective on what specifically I need to learn in order to successfully get started on S5 development.
First thing I'd like to do is go through the steps of building a 'beginner' ROM (Maybe an AOSP rom? or port an existing rom to the VZ dev edition? Might even just start with a de-bloat of the stock software) Basically I'd like to start getting my hands wet and learning what it takes to cook roms.
Specific questions i'd like to pose to the chefs/devs out there are:
Do you think a port or AOSP build is the best first step? If not, what should be?
What do I need to do to get started? Any additional guides or reading would be greatly appreciated.
What tools that I need to learn about?
Anything specific to Samsung / Galaxy devices that I won't find in the "General purpose" guides that I should google?
What should I NOT do in my first forays? I'm looking to cook roms, but not looking to have a $600 doorstop!
Finally, hopefully someone with more Samsung / Dev edition experience might be able to answer my last (and to me personally, most important) question:
From what I've read, it sounds like Samsung is crap about releasing OTAs / New Android builds that are compatible with the dev editions - Will this stop those of us that have dev editions from upgrading to further versions of android? A big reason I bought such a powerhouse of a phone is to somewhat future-proof it against future versions of android inevitably becoming more resource heavy. If we're not going to be able to upgrade I'm not sure I chose the right device.
Thanks in advance!!

The fastest and the most stable system (ICS, JB, KK, LP) for LT18i

Hello to everyone, my Xperia Arc S was ,,hidden" in my drawer for almost 2 years and I wouldn't change this if my primary smarphone wasn't broken. Now I have to send it to the service (warranty) and therefore I have to use my Xperia Arc S again. Currently, I have some version of gigerbread installed on it but I need something above Ice Cream Sandwich and I remember how laggy the ICS was . Therefore I hope this improved with Jelly Bean, KitKat or Lollipop, which I haven't tested on this device yet...
Thus, I would really appreciate if anyone told me which version of Android, or specifically which ROM (according to your experience), is the fastest and the most stable one on this device (except for Gingebread) because I don't have time to test it by myself.... (My smartphone was sent for a warranty a few hours ago)
Thanks in Advance,
Dominik

I hope you are satisfied - your answer is an absolute waste of time....
I said I didn't have time to test it by myself moreover I didn't use this device for almost 2 years and therefore I don't know what's new and I have absolutely no experience with new ROMs... And yeah, I do not have time to find it out a gain any experience... Therefore I wanted to gather some user experience with individual systems (ICS, JB, KK or Lollipop) or specifically ROM and then choose the most suitable one for me...
Your answer was appropriate 3 and more years ago when this device was a higher-end smartphone and new ROMs were cooked/developed every day and owners of this device were just too lazy to find the best ROM for them and therefore they asked others, but now it is just a bu*****... :good:
But it seems, nobody else is going to answer me, so I'm grateful for your answer anyway. Moreover I slightly modified the original post so that it will fit your comments...

Before you say my answer was a waste of time, check if your question was allowed in the first place. The forums specifically mentioned this type of ROM comparison thread was never allowed in the first place. If you have the time to ask a question, you do not have the time to read?
Sorry, regardless if it was 3 or more years ago or recently, the rule still stands. Your stand that it is bu****** is moot.
Mod, please close thread.
