chompSMS vs Handcent - Vibrant General

What are your thoughts? what do you prefer. Coming from biteSMS on an iPhone chompSMS looks great, but handcent looks just as good, maybe better. Let me know what you think!

I've used Handcent as my primary messaging client forever. Great layout for conversations and I like the voice to text feature. It can be flaky when sending picture messages from the gallery. Sometimes you have to reattach the photo. I had this occasional problem on my G1 and haven't run into it on the Vibrant.

I used both on my G1 and ended up sticking with Handcent. Chomp was a little buggy for me, and at the time I had to use SMSPopup in conjunction to get the same functionality of Handcent.
I'm not sure, but ChompSMS may have the popup now as well. I haven't tried it on my Vibrant, but Handcent has been working just fine.

Handcent ftw. .. however I been enjoying stock on the galaxy.

I used Handcent for the almost 2 years with my G1 and thought it was great but now with the Vibrant I find I like the stock messaging app is quite nice and don't really see a need for it anymore.

I used to use chompSMS and switched to HandcentSMS when chompSMS clogged it up with ads everywhere. HandcentSMS has ads too but only in options, I believe chompSMS has changed this but ehh.. HandcentSMS seems to work a lot better for me so I decided to keep it. (inb4. AdFree; still takes up space)

I've always used handcent, but the stock messenger app is nice too.

I use ChompSMS, mostly for the popup window. It looks more polished and takes a lot of design cues from BiteSMS on the iPhone, which I always preferred.
Functionally I havent noticed a performance difference between the two, I just like the design of ChompSMS better

I agree. I like the stock app - similar gui to Handcent. With the better version of Swype on the Vibrant, I'm not using the voice features as much.

I use Chomp. I just love the way the widget looks. It also works very well. You can remove the ads by sending the a donation. If you go to the apps/themes section look for show your home screens. I've posted a few pics of how it looks on the Vibrant with no Ada.

anyone got a Facebook photo error?

Hi all loving this new phone, a few bugs for me, nothing major like i had with my crappy n97.
1st off does anyone who has the facebook app have a problem viewing other peoples photos ( skipping from one to the next) mine just flashes the windows loading icon in the middle and does nothing else.
second the clock keeps flipping back an hour or so when i alternate between screens.
just a few niggles, i'm mostly happy
oh and if anyone has a link to a site where i can get some free apps that'd be nice.
Cheers
Phil.
The facebook app as a whole is entirely rubbish, and appears to have been written by a drunk monkey. Most people tend to prefer using touch.facebook.com (or m.facebook.com if you prefer a simpler interface). Add it to your bookmarks and add a shortcut to it on the homescreen and you'll barely notice it's not a standalone app.
touch.facebook.com does the job thankyou.
Same phot problem here, its indeed rubbish!
Also video upload doesn't work

Best IM client???

From you guys' experience, what's the most rated IM client on Android? I'd like to get one that is pretty good (or very good) for all the popular IMs.
I use Google's Talk. Low on resources. Obviously works well with Google.
I use Nimbuzz. Tried it for Gtalk but for some reason it stopped logging on properly and my Google contacts stopped coming up. It works best for me for Skype chats over wifi. A much quicker and cleaner client than Fring which I also tried.
I haven't tried AIM.
What do you guys recommend?
Ebuddy does, msn, yahoo, aim, gtalk, facebook icq etc all in one app. i find it very good
Also check out Palringo. Nice integration
ebuddy I think! using it now as we speak lol

I'm using Nimbuzz.. Its pretty cool I'll have to try out Parlingo and Ebuddy
Meebo anybody??
Using meebo right now seems fine to me
EBuddy is a bit more stylish

Cheers guys. I'm trying Ebuddy right now. One thing that I already like is the notifications are not annoying like another one I used which used it's own high pitched notification noise.
used meebo but switched to nimbuzz, cos it also has skype. otherwise meebo was ql.
I've been using MSN Droid for a week. It was pretty much ok, I liked the UI, it have all the usuall MSN options including avatar (it's missing "appear offline" feature only), but I noticed that it actually slows down my Desire (When I am in application and I press home button it takes at least 20 second to load my home screen, after that everything goes smoothly). It was enough annoyance for me so I decided to uninstall.
Now I am using eBuddy for several days and it seems very lightweight compared to MSN Droid. I really like integration of Facebook chat in it. Only feature that eBuddy is currently missing is personal avatar, but it might come with future update.
One particullar bug (or just something I haven't figured out yet) is that after I recieve message the phone indicator LED is not always blinking. Maybe someone else knows why on some messages the LED is blinking and not on the others?
Anyhow for the time being, eBuddy is my recommendation for you to try.
Cheers
Anyone know if it is possible to get the native android IM application working on the desire? The one that was ported from the g1 and modified to work on mobile internet/3g that is usually included on custom roms for the nexus one.
agile messenger and parlingo ar the best until now, at least from the one's that i've tested.
I like Im+ a lot, used it on my Windows Mobile X1 for a long time and bought it right away after switching to the Desire. Works great for me, unfortunately no Skype or Facebook as of now

Contacts App

Hey,
Ive been searching for a contacts app similar to native one from HTC Desire which is perfect but slightly slow when browsing. I havent found any yet. I love Handcent SMS instead of the native app. So is there something similar for browsing and managing contacts?
There is a Contacts app and widget similar to the HTC one with the pay version of LauncherPro.
Try Dialer One.
I have LauncherPro but there is only a widget which is great. I will try the Dialer One
Dialer One is slightly slower when browsing contacts. Probably due to loading pictures at contacts but it is great app...
hello,
I dont wanna open an new thread so maybe you cann help me:
I've seen an launcherpro people widget with an kind of glass effect, maybe you guys can help me, how to implement/change these in launcherpro plus?

Integrated messaging app similar to webOS?

Hey all,
Loving my Evo (running fresh 3.2 for battery life). One thing I miss about my old Pre was the integrated messaging app -- from one screen I could manage sms and gchat and have one integrated message inbox for them all. I find android's approach a bit kludgy in comparison.
Anyone have any thoughts/advice/recommendations?

Themes for SMS/text messaging? looking for an older stock android theme

Hi!
I am a big fan of all dark theme, I desktop is entirely black, all the buttons are hidden, and the only thing I miss about my Samsung galaxy S3, was the stock SMS/text messenger that came with android 4.2, and I think android 4.3.
I've included an couple of example here. What is the closest theme that I can get to match this theme?
I really can't stand the multicolored lollipop cutesy wusty pink popcorn dancing hippo, Disney happy squirrel themes. I prefer a more commando approach.
Here is the theme I am looking for.
Ideas?

I use Next SMS. ... you can customize pretty much every aspect of the app.. colors for everything.. background.. etc.. download different themes.. etc..
Use go sms. And look for a blank themes..

I am wondering if there are any ROM's that will cover some of this. My problem is, I have to get one SMS app, and then add another dialer app, to get the look that I want, and sometimes one extra theme. I'm hoping that a ROM will come up, that will just essentially be like Kit Kat 3.1, in both messaging and dialing departments.
On that subject, does anyone here know better of an android ROM, or overall theme, that looks more like older android, that will handle all of this in a single swoop?
Thanks!
