Kies won't install on xp sp3 - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi
I have been trying to install Kies, but I after step 3 of installation, Kies intaller says "Cannot access the file server. Please check the network settings."
I'm connected to internet, no firewall, no nothing.
Pls help, thx.

Same with me on WIN7 64bit The latest Kies version from samsung site. Did you solve it? Any solution?

I couldnt get it to install on my laptop or desktop which are both running Vista. I upgraded my desktop to Windows 7 32bit and it finally installed.

SOLVED
I have found the solution. Disable all network connections except one that is directly connected to the internet. I had VMware and BT connections beside my local area connection. Strange and stupid but its true.

I disabled all connexions ant it still wont install. Any other options?
Galaxy S is not connecting to the PC - not even on mass storage mode.

as unusual as it may sound, on my laptop running XP w/sp3, i had to first install
.NET 4 framework from microsoft (google it and download direct from microsoft), then reboot
then when installing Kies, believe it or not, it would not install until i connected to the internet by tethering via PDAnet so it could download something
inspite of the fact that Kies is a 316 MB file, it still needs to download more files, and apparently a big something cause it took about 25 minutes watching the progress bar), and then it completed perfectly
and even more curious to me, when i look in Control Panel under "remove programs), it only shows to be a 212 MB file - go figure
now the only issue i have is, on my desktop running Vista Home Premium, Kies will connect perfectly and read everything including my ext SD card ( and i haven't formatted my external SD card)
while on my laptop, it will not complete the MTP connection, but it will tether which is all i care for it to do on the laptop
and btw, it seems to browse faster while tethered via Kies

Thanks, worked for me.

I was having the same problem here, XP SP3 on VirtualBox. The solution I found was to temporarily disable the Windows Firewall; after this, the Kies software could contact its server and installed without a hitch.

Thanks, turning off the Windows Firewall worked for me. Samsung needs to test this stuff more thoroughly before releasing. Having your installer error out because of Windows Firewall on default settings is not good.

Thanks!
Turning off the windows Firewall in a XP SP3 VMware System helped

I can't get kies to install on Win XP SP3 either
If I install from the disk it comes up with a dialog box asking for .net 3.5 and the only option in the dialog box is "e:\", which is my cdrom drive if i click ok nothing happens if i click cancel then installation is aborted. there is no option to browse to another location and I have also tried installing .net 3.5 manually and it has the same problem.
if I download kies from samsung then it takes ages to download, then eventually aborts and gives an error about not being a valid 32 bit application.
I have also tried disabling the firewall as well. I am really annoyed with this P.O.S software!!!
Does anyone have any suggestions for me before I attack the Galaxy with a sledge hammer?
Kind Regards
Kiwi

Theoretically it might be possible, if you already have all the pre-req already installed in the system
i'm installing KIES on a clean XP SP3 and to my surprise it needed:
Microsoft Installer 3.1
.NET framerwork 4.0
Windows Media Player 11
now it's trying to download an Outlook2007 add on
because that's the outlook installed in the system, it will try to add some add on for Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 and probably even Outlook XP
can't figure out where it's trying to file from, because it always gets stuck at 2% downloading and it's driving me nuts.
i can easily find the full file elsewhere i'm sure if i know which file it needs

I had same problem, I solved unistalling Norton Internet security an voilà, install it whith no problem, Norton sucks!

PPC6700 USB Modem Drivers on VISTA?

Ok i just got a new laptop which is loaded with the new (but crappy) microsoft vista operating system. first off let me say this, vista is an ultra headache to deal with! i dont recommend anyone using this operating system, unbuntu (linux) is way easier than vista.
anyways, back to where i was going.... my other laptop, which is loaded with windows xp, succesfully installed the usb modem drivers for the apache 6700. but whenever i try to install the same exact driver on my new laptop it says "windows cannot find the specified file"! i pointed the driver file , .inf, to the correct directory and everything. i downloaded another dialer and driver file and put it on the desktop, still windows cannot find the file even though i point windows to it (cot damn vista!).
this leads me to believe that this driver file does not work under vista. can anyone else confirm this or tell me what im doing wrong? i tried many different ways of install the driver, but vista fails. please, can anyone help me?
no body huh?
vista and dun
i too have the same problem with vista... i have read and tried several "solutions" to this but none have worked for me- my computer keeps installing a treo driver which doesnt work- funny part is i can do a BT DUN @ about 115.2kbps but if i push it too hard the phone freezes... i have been thinking about installing xp on my brand new laptop that came with vista.
Anyone figure out how to install USB drivers on Vista, mines also installs Treo Drivers on its own i can't stop it from doing that, any insight?
I am using a PPCGeeks Rom (LennySH i think) and it has an application called internet sharing. When connected with my Vista laptop the laptop uses it automatically for internet no additional drivers needed.
It also has a bluetooth setting that Vista will use to connect to a "personal area network" and your online without the cable. However the usb connection is faster.

WM6 Internet Sharing without ActiveSync

The new 6800 uses Remote NDIS aka RNDIS which means you are no longer able to connect your phone and use it as a modem as you previously were(even though wmmodem.exe is still part of WM6). To use your data connection from the phone in XP it was thought you had to have ActiveSync at least installed. I was able to find a way around this. It takes about 1 minute.
When installing ActiveSync 4.5 it installs Windows XP Hotfix KB909394. This hotfix implements the rndis framework and support drivers. It's not available anywhere as a standalone download nor is it even mentioned on Microsoft's KB. I have successfully stripped this out of the executable after fighting with it for awhile.
Code:
1) Run update\update.exe (You do not need to restart, you can safely check the "Do not restart" box.
2) Start Internet Sharing on your phone, plug it in.
3) If prompted for drivers point it to the folders you extracted rndis_as45_drivers.zip to.
That's it. Below i've hosted the two files for the timebeing..
Download - Windows XP Hotfix kb909394
Download - ActiveSync RNDIS drivers
Note: From the signs I have gotten from installation logs it appears this hotfix will be included in SP3.

Wizard Not Syncing To Windows XP Computer

I am having trouble getting my Wizard to communicate with a computer running Windows XP and ActiveSync 4.5. It's been awhile since I've synced it to an XP machine, as the one I primarily use is Vista, and it seems to work fine. When I plug it in it either sees it as an internet connection, or if I disable the advanced connection settings on my device it seems to install it correctly, but then it doesn't open up ActiveSync.
I'm running a custom WM6 rom that I installed about a year ago, and was looking to upgrade, which I hear XP is the most reliable for. Any idea what the problem could be? I also don't seem to be able to open Activesync by itself when the device is not installed, could it be a problem with the program itself on my XP machine?
yes
It must be the problem on the xp machine unisntall the activesync reset your pc... reinstall it and then i suggest you... if you will upgrade make a hardreset before plug your device to sync.
Well, that got ActiveSync working again on the PC, the icon showed up on the bar and I was able to open the program. But as soon as I plugged in my device, the program closed again, and now it won't open. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, but I got the same result. Any other suggestions?

Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device Driver

Had a search and found 1 or 2 things but they never worked for me. Anyway I have complied this driver for Windows XP so all you need to do is add it to your Internal Storage, plug it in to your computer copy it to your PC, then set your phone to internet sharing. When it moans that it dosn't know where the driver is, point it to them and it should work.
I just tested it on an XP machine and it worked so hopefully it will work for you.
If there is already a solution for this please let em know.

4.2.6 USB tethering
I downloaded the drivers but don't know where to put them. I think I'm not doing something right.
1. Plug in phone via USB (dont' have "Wireless tether for root users running")
2. settings / wireless controls/ "click" internt tethering
3. go to PC and wireless network connections, select G1Tether and click connect. it will not connect
is this a driver problem? do i need "wireless tether for root users" running?
help
thanks... vista and windows 7 has the drivers inbuilt but not for windows xp..
Driver works on Magic 32A with SuperD 1.5.1, WinXP SP2.
Thank you very, very much
Maciek.
Worked beautifully for me!
Worked great for me!
Thanks,
Ambarish
I cannot get these drivers to work. I'm using an xp machine and every time I turn on the usb tethering, it automatically installs drivers identified as "HTC remote ndis remote device" and it has a big yellow ! next to it. I tried pointing at your folder for the device wizard and it says it couldn't locate better drivers to install. What am I missing here?
I have the same issue with you, waiting for the solution.

Try tell it that you will select the driver manually. Then click the "Have Disk" button and point to the inf of this driver. That should install it regardless of what Device Manager thinks is the best drriver.
Been having trouble getting wired tether to work also. In device manager I had a yellow "!" sign on USB composite device, installed the driver from this thread and the caution sign disappeared - still no tethering though
I suppose I'll just have to make do with wireless tether.
when I point that file as the driver it tells me it isnt for that device.
Connect your phone, then when it says it has found new hardware but cant install it, go to the device manager, double click the and click reinstall driver.
Point the folder to where ever you saved the driver too and it should install.

Works
Worked for my Nexus 1 Cyanogen 5.0.5
Thanks to you for posting this and to the user who posted the info about vista and 7 having the driver already. I was scratching my head as to why this worked on my home laptop (vista) and not my work laptop (xp).
i got an old fossil
Windows 2000.....is this possible?
Thanks you! Something that finally works!
I have a question. My PC at work still has its normal LAN connection through a network card. Now I have this second connection through my G1. If I make a web request with Firefox, which connection will it use? Do I have to disable the LAN connection to guarantee that it uses the G1? Or is there someway to make Windows default to the G1 if it's attached, and use the LAN otherwise?
Works for USB tethering using Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Windows XP
Thanks for the driver. FYI I was able to use it with Android 2.2's built-in USB tethering and Windows XP SP3.
Unrooted Nexus One with stock Android 2.2 (Froyo)
this worked for me, thanks!

[Solution] Android MTP driver install error with KIES 2.x I9100 (Galaxy S2)

Hi all,
Yesterday I stayed till 3 AM trying to flash the new firmware to my 9100, but KIES was so unstable that I decided to re-install.
We all know if we simply install Kies under XP, there is an issue with an Android MTP driver failing to install. No matter what you do, it won't install. This is the driver that Kies requires to work in order to sync contents and flash new firmwares.
After trying different options and settings, the solution is quite simple. Follow the steps (XP tested):
1.- Remove Kies entirely.
2.- Remove Samsung USB Drivers
3.- Reboot.
4.- Install latests .NET framework.
5.- Download and install latest Windows Media Player (ver 11 for XP). This is the key, since it installs a User mode driver framework used by Kies.
6.- Reboot
7.- Download and install latest Kies. Reboot.
6.- Plug in your phone. It will detect everything.
8.- Start Kies.
This should make it.
Hope it helps!
Cherni.
I had Rooted and Custom ROM-ed with AOSP GingerMOD.
Then when connected to PC via cable, W7 failed to install MTP driver.
Heres what worked.
Turn off USB Debugging on the phone. Reconnect via USB storage mode.
Voila!
Am not using Samsung Kies. so dont know whether it will work with the same trick.

He said version 11 for xp lol.
BTW, for those of you with windows 7 enterprise N - The "N" means no multimedia drivers, so media player would not be enough.
You need to download some 300+MB package which I don't remember the name. and then media player.
I meant W7!
Well I just tried this and it didn't work, am losing hope here...I already tried everything and nothing works

All this started when I updated from version 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 through KIES
Hi, were you able to solve? I'm stuck at the same point, tried almost everything and i'm still getting the MFT driver error with my Galaxy S 2.
OS is WinXP 32bit, I tried before with Kies version 2.0.3.11082_152_2, then yesterday with 2.0.3.11082_152_4, no luck.
I tried the suggested Windows Media Player 11 procedure, i did the whole process as written in the 1st post (installed .net 4, then WMP11, then reboot, then Kies, then reboot again) and it didn't worked.
Before that i tried with USB debugging mode, i tried following what Kies says (connect device, got the error, disconnect the device then go to "tool -> the crap that should be supposed to repair drivers but that truly does nothing", then reconnect the device just to get the error again), I tried a tool i found somewhere on the internet while reading HUNDREDS of pages of users having the same error (Samsung engineers, that means that you really SUCK!) "FileSearcherforKiesFix" to find files with long extension on my SD, deleted some files (was only some thumbnails), NOPE, still getting the same F****n' error
So, were you able to solve in some way this error? How?
Thank you for your help, and sorry for my english (i'm Italian).
and if that doesn't work...try a different USB port on your computer. I have found that only one of the 4 on my t410 thinkpad plays nicely with the samsung usb drivers...
having said that, i have sworn off kies entirely and will only use Odin,
I'm on the Galaxy SII and was having similar problems. Went to the samsung website, DLed the USB driver, then to get the MTP to work: Turn off Debugging, go into "wireless and network", then into USB Utilities, unplug usb, click connect to PC, then plugged it back in, and bingo, we have a winner.
I didn't read the entire thread to see if this method was already posted, to f'ing tired!
Hopes this helps.
edit: looks like Kragusk did a similar (exactly the same?) install. So yeah, what he said....
the fix
This fix for windows XP was discovered by a chap named Dennis.
The problem is caused by some drivers from WMP11 failing to install correctly.
(WMP11 contains the MTP drivers, nothing to do with Samsung or USB drivers)
You just need to re/install them
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfrd.sys xxx_wudfrd.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfpf.sys xxx_wudfpf.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfhost.exe xxx_wudfhost.exe
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfsvc.dll xxx_wudfsvc.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfx.dll xxx_wudfx.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfplatform.dll xxx_wudfplatform.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfcoinstaller.dll xxx_wudfcoinstaller.dll
Then run this file (umdf.exe) found inside the windows media player 11 install
(Hint: download then open in winrar to find the file)
Sorry as a new person I can't post a hotlink to a file.

This not only cures Kies, but almost all other Media Player connection problems as well!

Go to Samsung Kies software, on top left of the window, click the menu > Driver recovery.
Let it reinstall drivers
After driver installation finished, go to your phone, Settings> Application > Development, tick USB debugging mode.
Under USB debugging mode connect your phone to the PC with USB.
It installs correctly!
Disconnect from PC
Untick USB debugging mode
Connect again
