The icon isn't even in the HTC Hero manual with the list of notification icons. It looks like a phone sitting on a pile of bricks. Does anyone know what it is or what it means?
In the attached screenshot, it's the leftmost icon.
Looks like it should be an icon for TTY
it is indeed a TTY icon. It's a device called a teletype. In the 20th century it was used for transmitting textual information before email/internet was around. Currently they are used by the deaf community.
I got that icon on zenhero when i connected headphones.
Interesting, you guys are correct. Before when I plugged in headphones, the headphone icon would naturally appear. Now, after flashing nfinitefx's stock de-odex'ed rom, this shows up. Strange.

I've recently upgraded from a Blue Angel and so far am pretty impressed but....
My BA used to have a nice little icon on the top bar showing when my BT headset was connected and also when it was active. Is there something similar for The Universal? I am asking because sometime I inadvertently press my BT headset button and consequently start draining my headset battery.
Thanks
Chris
AFAIK the only place you'll see it is when in the phone app itself. A little headset icon similar if not identical to the old WM2003SE one appears in the top right corner when the headset is connected. Note, this is NOT in the start bar, but the top right hand corner of the phone app window. With o2's customisations, it can from some angles be quite hard to spot, but you can just about make it out.
Since upgrading to the new imate rom and Radio 1.09, it seems better at finding my headset when it hasn't been connected for a while - though quite why this is I don't know, as I believe there are no BT changes in the new rom.
Cheers
Ant
Bummer :?
I liked the little icon on WM2003SE - it prevented my from accidentally drauning the battery from my BT headset. On the plus-side, the BT implementation on the Universal is far superior to that on the Blue Angel - probabaly hardware related.
You will also see it in the incoming call notification bubble, again in the top right corner.
Agreed it was useful in the old position, though in equal measure it did clutter up the bar.

hi all
is there anyway to force the phone to show you that it is connected to your bluetooth headset (ie. constantly).
when i first pair it shows the icon next to the vmail icon then it hides itself.
thanks in advance
did you find a way to do this ??
John...
PhoneAlarm has a skin that show the headset icon on the today screen. I use phone alarm with the '1TOUCH' skin. It's quite nice.
Does anyone know how to disable the sound notification when plugging into USB? I've seen a few posts here and on other sites, but they don't seem to be relevant to the X (I guess some other phones have a "None" or "Silent" option for the notification sound, while the X doesn't).
I also have SD card notification turned off, and USB debugging off, and still no go. I keep my volume turned up so I can hear it ring when I'm in the car or anywhere there's background noise, but when I plug it into USB it plays the "Droid" sound kind of loud. It's bugging me and probably other people near me at work...
Any help?
No ideas? Anyone?
Install Audio Manager and use the widget to reduce the "Alerts" volume. That will leave your "Ringer" volume up to the higher level. Of course, this will lower all of your alerts (incoming text messages, etc), but it leaves your ringer alone.
Thanks, but that's not any better than having it say Droid...then I'll never know it when I get emails/texts, unless I happen to see the blinking light.
I think I'll just deal with it though, it's not a huge issue, and I don't normally plug it in and unplug it that often that it's really a problem...just on occasional annoyance.
It's really annoying that argubly the best Android phone out there lacks features everyother Android phone has.
In your main settings change notification to silent. In gmail settings change the tone to what you want and in your sms change your notification to what you want.

I am unable to get this to work. There is no "silent" notification ringtone. Putting the phone on "silent mode" does exactly what you would expect. I can change individual sounds per application (calendar, text, email, etc) but whatever I have set in the main settings of the phone will be the ringtone for the USB connect. I'd rather not have to create a blank MP3 because that's just dumb that I would have to go that length to do something so simple.
OK, what I did is just change the Notification ringtone to "Look at Me". It's not a perfect solution, but it's much quieter, so I can deal with it.
I know this is an older post but there is a check box for SD card notifications under settings, sound. Just un-check it.

I've been happily sideloading apps on my rooted Fire for a few days now and didn't realized it but at some point my notification sounds became muted. The speaker icon is on the top right, showing muted but all music and video plays with no issue. If I go to the volume control, it shows all the way up. If I go to notifications, it shows all the way off. I turn it up, click on different notification sounds as if I'm going to choose it and nothing. Icon is still muted on the status bar.
I went to the directory that holds all of those sounds and I can play them just fine if I click on them. Something is just squirrely with notifications and I have no idea what to do.
Any help?
And no, no clue what I did because I've installed and poked at so much in the past few days it could be anything, I just need a place to troubleshoot. Maybe some file that shows the settings that can be checked/edited/etc.
Thanks!
I did the same thing by installing Widgetlocker, one of the options in there was either ringer notifications or toggle interactions.
I had tried all manners to restore the sound of the notifications but once i changed it back in widgetlocker then all was good in the world.
I have the same problem. I have an icon on the status bar indicating that sounds are off - but I can't find a way to switch them on. The volume is fine - it's just the icon (the speaker with a little "x" next to it) that won't go away.
rhsauer: Do your notification sounds work though?
no - the notification sounds don't work. The volume on the device is fine for watching movies, etc, however.
So I wound up uninstalling everything, resetting to factory defaults via the normal menu, re-rooting and starting over and all sounds are back. I have no idea what the difference is.
Get Volume Control from market and there you can set volumes of everything possible even stuff that is not accessible otherwise.
That solved my problem! Thanks.

Does anyone know of a way to activate the charging notification sound? Not for wireless charging but for regular charging. There is an option to check it under sound, other, but it does nothing. In the past, I used to use my favorite charging notification sound, but it looks like newer android versions had done away with it for some reason. I'd very much like to know if anyone knows a way to bring it back.
I use the MacroDroid app to have my MXPE vibrate when plugging it into power (like my old LG G4 used to.) You might see if they have some sound notification options in there too. It is a free app for your first 5 macros. If you want more then it is some small amount. I'm sure Tasker could do it, but I was never good at writing the macros.
I use Trigger.
