Sometimes when I plug my headphones I can't get music to come through them... I still get mail notification but not navigation "clicks" or the music. There is a headphone icon in the notification bar, and music players do pause when it's unplugged, but still can't hear the music. I think this only happens after I run a task killer... Is that possible? Can you guys think which service/app i should exclude from killing to stop this from happening?
Thanks
Get rid of the task killer first, then come back and tell us if you still have the issues.. Task killers aren't needed.
Also, have you tried more than 1 set of headphones?
I don't run a scheduled task killer, I have "System Panel" installed, and once in a while i'll kill all tasks (simply because I don't like seeing sprint installed apps, like nascar running). You can add tasks to be excluded from killing, just wondering what should be added to keep the headphones working.
Thanks

If you insist on killing tasks then the rule of thumb is: if you don't know what it is then don't kill it.
Jacked Up
The only set of earphones that works perfectly for me is a set with 4 METAL parts/ divided by 3 PLASTIC parts -/-/-/- (in the " male" Jack pin that sticks into the hole)...the standard "stereo" Jack didn't work for radio...(I.e. -/-/- ) I think you need the set with an inline volume control. (Just my experience ).
Good luck...

Then just don't look at what is "running." Those processes are paused in the background and not consuming any battery power. Are you rooted and on custom firmware or are you on stock? If you're rooted, you should be okay to uninstall Nascar.
if you are hearing some things and not others i'd imagine it has to do with a volume level.
grab AudioManager Widget off the market and load that up and see if one of the levels is down.
Justin
I've tried a few set of ear phones, all with same results.
I'm not rooted, not yet anyway.
I don't think it has to do with volume because when i unplug the headphones i can play music through the phone speaker and it's reasonably loud.
For now, I'll just set it to kill the tasks that bother me and leave the rest alone.
Thanks
Just went to the gym and it happened again... no media sound at all. The media volume is set 100% and this time i made a point not to run the task killer since last reboot...
Anybody else have this problem?
Thanks

That's called a TRRS (tip-ring-ring-sleeve) plug. Regular stereo is called . . . wait for it . . . TRS (tip-ring-sleeve).
I read another thread recently in which people had varying degrees of trouble with normal TRS or stereo headphones.

I get this random skip while listening to music on my mogul. Many happens when im in a building or library. Quite annoying and almost a show stopper for me. I like to listen to music when i study but the skipping distracts me too much.
Are you using Audio Manager or WMP? Do you have any other programs running in the background? Is it just with MP3's? How about WMA's?
Nope, no other progs running. I use a task manager to check as well. WMP and HTC Audio manager do the same thing. Ist not software specific.
I have found that if i use the task manager application and shut down the 3 running phone tasks it works fine or if i play music after a soft reset.
Why does the phone process/ or task keep running after you are done using your phone? its not present until the phone is used after a soft reset...
That is odd. I have SKTools on my device that keeps everything optimized... plus the true-close x apps. I have TaskManager on my device but I RARELY use it. How many MB's of memory are free while WMP/AudioManager is playing?
It is strange cause I will stream Audio utlizing either players and still play Freecell or surf online without incident. Have you edited your audio/registry settings that would affect either of the Audio Players?
I would guess that when you are in a building or the library, you are losing signal. The phone is attempting re-acquire service when this happens and is taking enough of the CPU to cause the skipping. What version of the radio are you using? I have found 1.40 to be the best choice. (for me) In addition, what bitrate are the mp3's? Does it happen with lower bitrate MP3's?
A couple things to try:
When in a building or the library take note of your signal status.
Also, when in a situation where your music would normally skip, try turning off the radio and then try playing your MP3's.
My signal strength is low. Your right on that. Other things i have noticed, it doesn't do it when i do a soft restart and prior to any calls made. After i make any calls, it starts to skip when playing music.
I opened up my task manager program just to see what was running and there are like 2 or 3 phone processes running. If i terminate them, it plays just fine for some reason.
You used to see this sort of issue back in the day when MP3's had just come out and a regular Pentium was cutting edge. Basically there isn't enough processor and/or memory to go around and this happens.
If you don't already have one, load up a task manager that truly closes programs when you hit X and I think you'll be fine. I've been happy with the HTC Task Manager, alot of people like QuickMenu for this sort of thing as well.
Im using quick menu and its not showing. only with task manger.
I've always had one small problem with TouchFLO 3D's music player: if you're listening to music with the earphones plugged in, and you accidentally pull the plug out, it starts blaring your music over the speaker! This can be very embarrassing if you're out in public and all of a sudden, everyone around you can hear your music.
I spent a long time searching for an answer to this problem, and I've never had any success. So finally, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create HeadsetMonitor.
HeadsetMonitor is a lightweight application that hides in the background and monitors the status of your headset. If the TF3D music player is playing when you unplug the headset (generally by accident), it will spring into action and instantly pause your music to prevent it from blaring over the speaker. Once you plug the headset back in, it will automatically resume playing your music. Additionally, if you want it to play over the speaker anyway, simply hit the play button and it will continue to function as usual.
HeadsetMonitor does not affect battery life. HeadsetMonitor only consumes a miniscule amount of CPU power for a fraction of a second when you plug or unplug the headset. It will automatically run on start-up and connect to the HTC Audio Manager program as soon as it becomes available (usually when you first go to the Music tab). It remains completely idle in the background until the headset is plugged or unplugged, using no resources except for a few KB of memory.
Installation instructions:
HeadsetMonitor only works if you are using TouchFLO 3D. It currently does not pause any other media player automatically. I developed and tested this program on the CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond, and can't guarantee that it will work on every phone.
It requires version 3.5 of the .NET Compact Framework, which should already be on your phone in most ROMs. Simply run the CAB file on your phone to install, and then either soft reset or browse to the application folder and launch the EXE manually. If all goes well, you can begin using it immediately.
great job- gonna use it
tried it and got an exception error. I am using the Touch Pro 2 version of TF3D

Do you happen to know what exception? Also, can you check the exact name of the AudioManager EXE in a task manager, please? I haven't tried the TP2 version of TF3D, so it might have a slightly different name or something.
Thanks!
My apologies. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it to give it a second shot and it worked as advertised. I apologize for not testing it again. it must have been something else conflicting. Hope this makes up for my error http://www.fuzemobility.com/remove-headset-to-pause-tf3d-music/

great idea!!!
i am going to test it now. thanks for the efforts
Sweeeet I will not have to look around me suspiciously anymore while listening to Britney in the subway
nice app, but only one problem, when i insert the headphone back, it doesn't resume the song and it goes to the first song of the playlist..
Monsterchef said:
great solution for that problem - i have another one: I have a bluetooth stereo headset, and often when tf switches from having a call back to music, it shouts out at speaker instead of bt headset - that's annoying for me AND the people around me...
does your prog solve this TOO?
i.e. does your tool check if a headset is used (no matter which KIND of headset) OR does it affect the special headset like tools "FM radio" or "Equalizer" do?
thx for reply in advance (in case it does not affect your tool DIRECTLY...)

I'm not sure if it would work, as I haven't got a bluetooth headset to test it with. However, when you connect your headset to the phone, do you get the headphone icon on the top bar? If you do, and that disappears after ending the call and switching back to the music, then HeadsetMonitor should pause the music for you.

That's definitely strange. Is anyone else encountering this bug?
Could you give me some details, please? CDMA, GSM version? Touch Diamond, Touch Pro? What ROM you're using? What version of TF3D? Anything else you think might be useful. Thanks!
nice app .
maybe you can add a feature that it automatically disables the headset when there is call (incoming/outoing)?
this would be for people using normal 3,5inch headphones (no headsets) so they do not have to remove the headphones when they want to speak on the phone!

Sorry, I took a quick look and it doesn't look like it's possible to disable the headset without physically unplugging it.
Let's start:
GSM version
Latest official rom 2.03
Touch Diamond
Original TF3D
Thanks for this. It's working a treat for me on a HD2. Saves me having to install s2u2 and s2p just to get the music to pause when i unplug the headphones!
One suggestion if you're still working on this would be to get the Audio player to autoplay when the headphones are reinserted.
Brilliant app! Working perfectly on HTC Diamond (Win 6.5 / HTC Sense 2.5) using a Sony DR-BT20NX bluetooth headset.
Thank you!

This app is great! Thank you so much for creating it. This works perfectly on my CDMA Touch Pro 2! I have been looking for this fix for quite some time!
Is it possible?
I only have sound when i'm listening to music, so i have to mute everytime i'm unplugging headset.
Is it possible to make the phone do that automatically? Or even better, just leave the sound muted and play music in headphones anyway?
Hope you understand my problem
Look at this thread, maybe you can hack something together and share it
That one is not doing it automatically, don't want to click on programs
Don't know how to hack it, have my hope on other users on XDA
+1
I know a way to check the headphone state with mortscript
Headphone = RegRead ("HKLM", "System\State\Hardware", "Headset")
But that's pretty much it I don't know squad about running mortscripts in the background without using to much system resources. Maybe somebody can jump in ...
would love this feature too. had it on my htc topaz with wm 6.5, so why wouldnt it work here, too? But I dont know if it was cooked in or already in the stock roms.
When I put my phone on "vibration only", it automatically turned on the volume when headset was plugged in. Did it reverse when headset was removed.

If you're willing to PAY for this, you might check out SBSH Pocket Weaver 2. I use it as follows:
1. Headphones: Lower Main and Ringer Volume. Main alters the volume in the headphones so I don't mistakenly get blasted when I start the first song. Ringer volume quiets down the volume if I'm listening to music.
2. Evening: Turn off sound. Vibrate only from 8:00 to 11:00PM.
3. Night: Reduce Ringer volume so I'm not blasted awake.
4. Day: Normal volume settings.
All of these things are done without my input (after the initial setup). Number 1 is triggered by plugging in the headphones. Numbers 2, 3, and 4 are triggered by the time of day. I'm guessing you can set one "Profile" to your normal needs (no sound) and set a Headphones profile to just the headphones. Download the trial and give it a try. Let me know if I can help with the initial setup.
I've used this software with my old TyTN II and my new HD2. It works.

Nice, thanks Downloading trial before buying..
I am using Conduits Pocketplayer for music, and now I've downloaded the WMP-Plugin because I solded my earphones to the standard-htc-headset to get the media-control-buttons. They are only working when I use the plugin. And from now, the sound mutes when I unplug the headset Without any additional programs.
Just got my SGS and am very happy with it but there is a few little things that have been bugging me.
1.) Call volume, its very low when your in the car or in a public place such as a lunch room or mall. I have it on max and it still very low, is there any way to increase the call volume?
2.) Is the anyway to change the home screen button? like what happens when you press/hold the button. I would like it that when i hold the home button it launches the music player instead of task manager.
3.) Battery life, this is a know issue i want to know what you guys do to make your phone last more then 12 hours. I been testing it and if i turn everything off like data and gps then it will last 2 days but then the phone is useless. I have it set to auto brightness and all that and did the battery calibration and all that. Turning data on and off is annoying and never had the issue with my BB. How long dose you phone last and how can you make it last longer?
4.) Wired headsets, this one is very annoying. I was surprised when i plugged in my brothers iphone headset and it did not work. I tried a few headsets at Bestbuy like the rocketfish headset and the skull candy mic'd, generic blackberry ones and none work. The samsung headsets will not last forever and there are so many choices out there and none work!!!! what heads will work that will be easy to find at bestbuy. I read that nokia ones will work but thats annoying i really like my skull candy mic'd headphones.
4b) is there a way you can use regular headphones to hear when making a call and use the mic on the phone.
bump bump bump

re: battery charge and discharge full for a few times and it will improve..
also if you set wifi to turn off when sleeping and turn of 3g at night (but leave wifi on) you will get better batter.. (i use switch pro widget to do this)
usually get about 36 hours or more.
re headphones use a adapter such as nokia or samsung avail. on ebay an then you can in (froyo 2.2.1 control using buttons) and all firmware calls over the headphones work.
such as these
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250669116158&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
call volume: mine is pretty loud.. maybe get a louder .mp3..
also you can try to turn up speaker vol. with audioboost app from maket (need to be rooted) but for most firmwares speaker is already on max but not all.
test your device with supply
maybe there is problem with your device

Those samsung adapter with mic, i had them with my Omina II and found they make the sound horrible and when listening to music. Do you have it and find there is no issue on the SGS and music still sounds good?.
Regarding call volume, not the volume of the ringer but the volume of the ear peace(in call cvolume), like the person im talking to there voice is very low even on max in call volume

Headphones with the mic addon doesn't work properly due to the fact the Galaxy S has TV Out (try holding down the mic button, it'll sound good). The Galaxy S comes with a pair of earphones which work alright. Apart from that, any 3.5 earphone/headphone will work properly if they don't have that mic bit attached.
Make sure you're updated to the latest firmware. Battery life has improved. Either check on Kies or head towards the custom rom section.
well the whole point is a wired headset with mic other then the samsung ones. They are not going to last forever and i don't want to resort to ebay to get a pair. I would like to go and buy a pair of skullcandy mic'd and use those but since they are wired differently i can't and there are no samsung/nokia at my local best buy which is annoying. why sell a device when you don't have its accessories or why not wire it like all the modern devices like HTC, Blackberry and iphone.
I know i can use regular headphones and they work fine but another annoying issue is you cant use them when a call comes in. With my blackberry i always used regular headphones and when i call came i would take out the BB to use the mic but could hear through the headphones. I don't have a problem doing it this way as this is my preferred way but it just dose not work. I mean is a small BB can do it and an iphone can i was surprised that the SGS cannot.

There are 3rd party adapters you can use. Nokia Ad-54 works just fine (media or call controls dont work, but the mic and headphone works). There are few more, search the accessories forum.
To help your battery life problem, download the app superpower from the market. It automatically manages gps and data etc and turns it on only when it is needed.

Hi Guys
Just moved from a HTC One x to the S5 and there is one thing bugging me at the min.
When i plug in my headphones and watch a video the volume level is set about 50% so i increase the level to 75% watch my videos, when i have finished and removed the headphones, the next time i put the headphones in the volume jumps back to 50%
i have tried installing 3rd party apps and i can see that when i select my volume level and then unplug and reinsert my headphones, the level drops back to the default 50%
has anyone else had this problem, im hoping there is a fix somewhere in the options that allows me to set the default
I dont want to root my phone just yet (i know all about teh benefits of rooting etc having done it on my other phones) so anything that rules out anything to do with root
other than that im loving the new phone at the min,
Thanks for looking
Give Diceplayer a try, for me it remembers the play level and the volume can go up to 400%. (I did disable all stock music EQ's and apps that I could without Root.)

Sounds almost like it's a setting somewhere. Maybe Adapt Sound or some other averaging setting? I killed that, so I can't check.

im guessing its some kind of system setting that reverts back due to me not being rooted
