Is this possible? I'm asking because I would like to switch to 2.2 when the rooted version comes out, but I don't want to lose all my apps, contacts, settings, etc... I'm currently on the rooted stock rom.
So is this possible to do? I tried searching around the forum, but I couldn't find anything... maybe I was searching for the wrong things.
Thanks!
Shawn
As far as I understand it, it's highly advised you do. But you can use something like Titanium backup, buy the donate version, to backup all of your apps and phone content.
Super important tool when flashing ROMS.
Mybackuppro is good as well. You can do an online backup as well.

I looked up Titanium Backup and it looks legit... this will backup all my stuff from 2.1 and be able to restore to 2.2?
Also, why would I need Nandroid in addition to Titanium Backup if I'm already rooted? Is there a reason I need both?
Thanks for the help!

Is there a way to transfer all my settings/apps/data from one ROM to a new one? Because every time I flash, it's a blank slate. I'd like to keep all my apps and stuff that I have installed on my current ROM but put it onto a newer ROM. Is it possible?
make a nandroid backup taht way when you flash if you dont like it you can restore your last image, or if you want to transfer your contacts go to People>hit menu>import/export to SD
Titanium backup.
well nandroid doesn't back up my apps and wallpapers and stuff... oh well
Nandroid does backup your apps and data. It backs up an exact image of your phone the way it is when you back up

To that specific ROM yes, but to another ROM, no.

No, its for every ROM... Thats why its called NANDroid. It backs up the entire NAND for later use.

It backs up whatever info I have to lets say attn1's Liberated Aria ROM. Ok, I back that up in nandroid, then I go to flash the clean eclair beta v2 one. It says to wipe and then flash. Ok, then when the flashing is done, its clean and none of my apps are there. I want something to back my info up from one ROM to another.
well with some roms, (this is experimental and doesnt work with every combination of roms) you can use nandroid for an advanced backup, and restore only the data partition(which is your apps, settings etc.). but it doesnt work with every combination of roms. but you can also use titanium backup to just backup apps, and settings etc.
Alright, that's what I needed to hear. Thanks
I rooted my friends Vibrant. He has the official 2.2 update from Kies. Are there any ROMs he can use ?

He can use just about any rom in our dev section.
First things first, I would advise you to get Titanium Backup (for apps) and ROM Manger (for nandroid backup and clockwork recovery). It's always a good idea to make some backups before you do any modding to your friend's mobile.

I'm new to this as well I know titanium backup allows you to save all system and third party apps along with there settings so what does nandroid and clockwork do and are the market apps

Try reading the guides in my signature... may get you off to a good start, specifically the Noob one.
Thanks

Yeah do lots of reading. I use Titanium backup only for restoring apps since restoring system data can sometimes mess with the roms settings

a quick rundown of the difference between nandroid and Titanium backup is if you mess up your Rom and cant boot into it but can still boot into recovery, you can do a nandroid restore from a nandroid backup and revert back. Titanium backup is meant more for backing up user apps and data to restore after flashing an "wiping" ROM.
Is there a reason that I don't have nandroid backup on ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.2.4? My backup and restore menu only has "backup" and "restore". I'm being picky but the word nandroid is nowhere in these menus.

Back up is what you are looking for. No recovery has the phrase Nandroid Backup
Oh, ok.. Weird. I could have sworn the clockwork version I used to use on my 3G Slide actually said "nandroid backup" in the menu.
Just wanted to make sure I actually did the right kind of backup. Then, no matter what I flash now, as long as I restore this file, I'm back to where I am right now, correct?
Affirmitive. Saved my bacon many times now...

yep, just make sure you store your backup on a harddrive and or offsite storage to make sure you dont lose it.
And two more things to confirm:
1. Will the Titanium backup I did for my apps and settings will reload in any new ROM flawlessly?
2. Do I really not need a stock T-Mo ROM to go back to? The backup will restore perfectly as though my phone had never been flashed to being with?

Let me rephrase that. Clockwork ROM doesn't use that phrasing. some other developers might...

1. As long as there is not an issue with the ROM, or a bad download or something, Titanium will restore your apps and data.
2. If you do not have a ROM backed up at all, it is a good idea to make a backup of the stock just in case something goes wrong. After you have a couple backups, there is really no reason to keep the stock ROM...
...and still have all my apps?
well I am a noob at this but... I flashed Cyanogenmod 7 on my fire and then did a system restore back to stock (I had to reinstall it). most of my stuff was still there. except books. hope this helps

Yes you can but if you changed anything app related it would not transfer when you restore your backup. You can backup your apps and then restore them in any rom using Titanium Backup.

I have been scouring the internet for over 2 hours, and I can't seem to find anyone who has done something similar to this, so here goes:
I currently have a Nexus 6P with the Pure Nexus Project Rom installed. I would like to switch to CyanogenMod. Normally, this would be no problem, however I am running into some difficulties with backups. Ideally, I would just do a NANDroid backup from TWRP, but I don't have enough space on my device. Right now I am running a full ADB backup to my computer, but in this instance I don't know if I'll be able to restore that backup to a new CyanogenMod installation.
TL;DR: Will an ADB backup restore to a new custom rom i.e. restore to CM from PureNexus? If not, is there a way to do a NANDroid backup directly to my computer?

You shouldn't be using TWRP to backup/restore data between different ROMs in the first place. That will not only back up your apps but all settings as well, which will cause problems on a different ROM. The only safe way is to use Titanium Backup to backup your user apps (not system apps) and then restore that backup on the new ROM.

Could you point me to where you've seen someone recommending to restore a nandroid /data backup on a different ROM? It's widely known that this is nothing but trouble, if it's on XDA it probably needs to be taken care of.

Titanium backup is the only really viable solution in such a case. When you need to make a snapshot of your whole system in case of failure you use a Nandroid backup, however when you need to transfer data between /system formats then it's best if you use titanium backup.
