I made a few phone calls and I noticed the screen will go off for a few seconds and then go back on and stay on... Why?
It is wasting out my battery this way.

The phone goes off as you bring it close to your ear to stop your ear pushing anything whilst you are on a call then when you pull away the screen will come back on is that what you mean

Lol, no, that's not what I meant.
Supposing I make a phone call, the screen is lit as normal, I then place the phone to my ear to speak, the screen goes off, after 2-3 seconds it will come back on and stay on!
Even if I took the phone away from my ear while talking, and then put it back on my ear, the screen will once again go aff, and after a few seconds it will come back on and stay on until I finish the phone conversation.
Sounds strange but that's exactly what it's doing.
sounds like you got an app controlling screen timeout while on call. check through your apps see if any of them have permission to control screen time out

best is to go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications and check through manually. i had a similar issue with my x10 and found it was a app causing the screen to stay on while on a call

I just went through the applications. All I could see was around 50 or more applications, what am I to do or look for in each one, how do I find out which app is causing the screen to stay lit and how to stop it?

It's build 3883. Yesterday I downloaded the update to 4399, tried to run it several times, it does nothing and just reboots and turns back on...
However, could the proximity problem be a fault as I've never had this problem before and I've had dozens of touch screens in the past...
I will now backup my data and do a factory reset to see if it solves the problem.

Flumps, thanks a billion for your help, seems you was right!
I just did a factory reset to remove all installed apps & settings, when the booted back on, I made a phone call, put it to my ear for about 10 seconds, the display shut off AND STAYED OFF UNTIL I TOOK THE PHONE OFF MY EAR!!!
Strange though, what app could it be?
What I will do now is install the apps again ONE BY ONE to see the culprit, and if I find out I will let you know.
Ok, I just installed all the previous apps I had one by one and testing the phone.
Have a guess WHICH app was the culprit????
The dam Advanced Task Killer!!!
I am not at all surprised though because other people said that task killers are NOT recommended on the Dell Streak.
The only weird thing is that I've used the Advanced task killer on 3 other Android based phones including HTC Hero, HTC HD2 & HTC Desire and I never had this problem...
I take it the Dell Streak does not like task/app killers...
haha, glad you sorted it bro! ya, task managers are abit meh on the streak, best to stay clear for now.

Hi all,
I tried searching the forums for this particular weirdness but could find it.
I recieved my HD2 last week and had the crackling ear piece problem, with no help from T-Mobile i decided to flash the device with the latest HTC Rom it corrected the problem and everything is working fine.
There is one little thing i have noticed though which is weird, when booting the phone for the first time when it had the TMO rom it gave me a pre-setup application or firstboot application whatever you want to call it.
With the new HTC rom it doesnt give me this when i hard reset is this normal?
Thing is when i turn off the phone for a brief moment it shows the same setup application as running in the background?
switch teh phone into airplane mode and you should find the background app comes to teh front and you can complete it.
wouldn't a task manager allow you to switch to it?

Seems to be, yes. It's been reported several times by people going up to the HTC 1.66 roms.
Nothing I do will turn the backlight off.
even when I let the phone go into screen lock mode, it will wait the right amount of time for the back light to go off..
The screen light will turn off, then instantly turn back on again!
Even when i turn it off by my self (phone down button), It will go off, and come right back on again.
wtf is going on?
is it my rom?

Try running cleanRAM on level 3 (adjustable in the Settings) and see if it still does it. If so, then its possibly a ROM issue, if not, it'll be one of those programs running in the background.

Sorry for a late reply.
I did re flash, to Energy rom, and the problem seems to be solved.
Now all I have to do is find a good rom for winmo 6.5
Ive even backed up everything I had on my old rom, and put it all on the new one.. So It couldnt have been the processes
Must have been a problem with axlor's rom. Weird that it didnt start doing it for a month or so though.....
Nope.
Turns out a re-flash hasn't worked.
EDIT:
My proccesses:

BTTrayCE.exe
poutlook.exe
cprog.exe
conmgr.exe
servixes.exe
shell32.exe

I dont see anything there that could be causing this....

It even does it with the stock rom.
Im sending it off to Tmobile to be fixed. Hopefully they will acctualy find the problem insted of sending it back and saying there is nothing wrong
Just to add - It only does it when Its not conected to USB or the charger.
I've re-flash 3 time, factory reset everything now.. Nothing works
I was going to say that the behavious is similar to the one caused by the otherwise great tool "proximityscreenoff 0.2", but if you also get it with a stock rom, it's definitely a matter for warranty service

Even though its certain this isn't the official release, I thought we should condense the topics and just post the your thoughts about the good and bad features this update provides.
Ill start..dk28 isn't that awful for me like others. The only problems I've noted was samsung widgets disappearing sometimes, home screen rotation lag, and a few checkers showing up in the browser when zooming in and out.
However, on the bright side, flash is very smooth, and there are better icons

GPS fubared?
No notification when charging usb
Hey guys i recently started having a problem with the back button.it will pick up half the time and then its unresponsive the time any ideas on what i can do?
Probably just lag. Which way did you flash dk28?
Btw, I came up with some other things.
1. Notfications are delayed (ex. Handcents icons in the top bar are sometimes delayed)
2. Keyboard delayed (its actually a bit worse than before)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
*Keyboard/touchscreen/captivate button lag/failure to register action/press
*Streaming music skips (last.fm) while doing anything else; like browsing the web.
*Slow orientation change
*No lineout on multimedia dock yet
*None of the unicorns and rainbows flying out of the screen that were promised by the legion of unrelenting froyo fanboys littering this forum for the past month.

Not seeing this one either, lets me know right away though the notification bar as per usual.
However I am experiencing one very odd piece of behavior, If I open the phone to show the keyboard, turn off the screen and leave it sitting ... the keyboard LED blinks constantly. I'm not sure if it's an app of mine conflicting or froyo itself but it's fairly annoying.

I personally went back to 2.1, rock solid and stable.
On 2.2, Screen rotation is slow as molasses, GPS is stuck on my work location and would not work at all in updating. Browser was a bit slower compared to 2.1. Hated the scattered, non-alphabetical applications folder, wtf?!!
I enjoyed the 2.2 leak but the little niggles weren't enough to stay on it.
I did like the coloured menus, and the ability to turn off 3G when holding the power button for a few secs.
I keep getting errors when connecting to Wifi. I will look down at the phone and wifi will be off even though i never turned it off, and then the notification toggle wont do anything, and when I go into settings to enable it, it says "error" underneath the Wifi entry. Then it takes a few tries to get it connected again.
I do like where Froyo is headed, but this is absolutely no where near polished enough for final release.
Edit: Having a fully working GPS is awesome though. 2 meter accuracy = Awesome.
Does anyone else have lag when trying to adjust brightness on the notification bar?

I've noticed since 2.2 that when a caller hangs up, I get a single beep in my bluetooth earpiece confirming that the call has ended, which I like...didn't have any sound before that.
Anyone else having trouble hanging up during a phone call? I hit the damn End button at least 3-4 times before it decides to hang up.
I must be one of the lucky few, everything works great, and not only that it fixed all the issues I had with the previous 2.1 build. I've tried out just about everything I can think of wifi, gps, 4g, pandora, etc.
edit: Should add, I did a factory reset after I installed it, wiped everything the only bit I loaded back in was contacts.

Give the phone a few secs after the screen comes back on then press it. Works fine; if you immediately press it.. it doesn't hangup. Seems intentional..
Umm.. aside from no GPS now which I plan to fix by reflashing di18 then 2.2... I don't find any major problems. The keyboard does have a bit of a registration flaw but not too major..
The leds do light up whenever the screen is off.
And I don't think the brightness sensor likes my room light because it enjoys changing itself a bit.

I have noticed the Sammy widget thing and the slow screen rotations but I was intrigued by your bug. So I tried it. Definitely happened. I wouldn't say 'blinks constantly' though. At least not in my case. It flashed on for about 2-3 seconds every 30 or so seconds. Maybe even as long as a minute. Caught me off guard. I watched it for a bit then went back to reading this thread only to have it happen out of the corner of my eye.

Woah, just tried it. I had similar results. However, I opened the keyboard, let the flash disappear, then 2-3 seconds later it came back. And stayed there too, for about a minute or so!
Not really a big deal in my opinion; I honestly don't use the keyboard often due to its laginess..
How can I set my device to not turn on the screen autmatically?
It annoys me that the screen is turned on every 30 minutes or so, and then needs one or two minutes to turn off again
What is this good for anyways?
Yes 7.7 wakes on ALL system event like battery full, annoying as hell. No working solution yet. Grrr...

Thanks for your replies! I will try the mentioned app.
Imho this feature should be integrated in stock touchwiz.
Sure np, however it does drain a bit of battery as the sensor needs to constantly keep detecting any changes. Try the lite version first before going pro.
Smart Screen Off doesn't stop the tablet from waking up on system notification like battery charge completion. Google believes charging completed is most important thing on earth and should make it known as soon as it happened, even when it might be in the middle of night.
Grateful if anyone would tell me how to stop this annoying notification...(i know how to turn off its sound, i just wish to stop it from happaning)

Few guys including me are having issues when using bluetooth. I.e. paired to in car bluetooth. It seems caller cant hear me even thou i can hear them clearly.
Another thing when bluetooth is connected even though you have the loudspeaker option on the phone when pressed it doesnt work. Surely this should be disabled option when connected to bluetooth if it doesnt work anyways?

Taken from my post at Reddit. Not just faults but also some annoyances.
After 3 days of testing I have a few things that bother me:
When adding any app as a accessibility service (e.g. Lightflow), the Touchwiz Launcher will start telling you where you are right now, e.g. "Homescreen 3 of 5", "Opening folder". Can be fixed by using Apex or removing the app as an accessibility service.
Waking up the phone isn't always instant.
No USB storage mode, only MTP or PTP. You can't use the phone while transferring files.
Boot animations use Samsung's proprietary QMG format --> no custom boot animations for now
While you're in a call, sometimes you can't use your mobile data connection. Wifi works though.
Attaching headset/earphones shows various audio applications that can be launched in the notification area. These apps cannot be customized.
The accuweather widget has a maximum refresh time of one hour. Setting it to anything less than that is not possible. Also, it doesn't always update the current location.

I'd say the non instantaneous lockscreen would be annoying, and MTP would be a real disadvantage. The S3 doesn't allow you to use your phone while in MTP.
I have a Purple tint in the middle the screen . Do you think it Can disappear with an update
