Question for Pocket Informant users? - HD2 General

Hi Everyone,
Is anyone using Pocket Informant on their HD2? I want to know how well it integrates with SENSE?
I am content with the current calendar management within the HD2 (im using Energy CHT Rom) but there is alot of recommendations to use Pocket Informant as the PIM.
Can Pocket Informant still work with SENSE and does Pocket Informant just use the standard Outlook Mobile Data?
Im hoping that there is some Task management that PI can improve on too!
Thanks!

Pocket Informant has its own Calendar, Tasks, Contacts etc application.
You can decide from its settings if you want the PI Calendar application to open when you click on "Calendar".
The PI Calendar application I find is more user-friendly than the HTC Sense one.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with PI, and believe it's well worth the cost if you are a heavy PIM user, especially for its tasks sorting / filtering abilities.

PI works fine with Sense, although I use SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 as my UI. PI uses the same database that Outlook Mobile and Active Sync use, so any changes made in native Outlook Mobile or on your synced PC will be reflected in PI, and vice-versa.
I've used PI on PPC 2002, WM 5.0, 6.0 6.1 and now 6.5 devices since 2001, so I have to say I'm very pleased with it. It is my favorite third party add-on I install on my devices. However, I've never used its task management extensively, so I can't vouch for its abilities in that area.

Thanks for your replies.
I plan to use it with OTA syncing with Toodledo (via Nuevasync)
Just not sure what is the best way to set up PI for Task management.

Pocket Informant, Finding Contacts Online (GAL)

I've recently installed Pocket Informant on my 8125 and love it - highly recommended to anyone who does anything with the PIM functions of their device.
There is one feature of the built-in contacts program that is missing from Pocket Informant that I use all the time - "find online" (interfaces directly with the global address book on an exchange server - I use it to track down contact info for coworkers who are not in my personal contacts list). I don't want to give up PocketInformant but need this feature to be available.
I know that one option is to simply not have PI register itself as the default contacts/calendar program -
What I'd rather do is keep PI as the default and just know that I can use the find online feature when I want. Does anyone know of a way to create a shortcut to actually run the built-in contacts program (so I can bypass any registry changes PI makes)? Alternatively (and even better, possibly) - anyone have an idea of how to call up the "find online" feature directly?
How did you get Pocket Informant to install on your 8125. Everytime I have tried to load it the install failes out with incorrect OS message.
Make sure it's the most current version. I had to upgrade the version I bought when I had my Ipaq 2 yrs. ago.

Sending SMS from desktop - APP ?

Is there any app that allows me to send SMS successfully from desktop (but via my Wizard) ... ?
I used to use SMSCool on my smartphone but it doesn't like my new Wizard. Also running the beta version of Outlook 2007 at the moment, and Jeyo Mobile Extender isn't compatible yet
Cheers
Mark
Just change back to Outlook 2003 tu use Jeyo (like me)
I can't imagine someone would like to run MS Beta applications
Hey Mark, do you happen to be running Vista too? I can't sync my 8125 for the life of me ... ActiveSync won't install and the integrated sync tools won't sync with Office 2007 yet. Crap. (BTW... Jeyo Mobile Extender rocks!)
Check out Pocket Controller Professional.
It doesn't do exactly what you want, but is definately worth it. It allows you to control your phone from your desktop, using keyboard, etc...

Calendar Software Tools : Which is easiest on my memory ?

I have found for WM5 for calendar, contacts and tasks.
Pocket Informant : http://www.pocketinformant.com/index.php
Agenda Fusion : http://www.developerone.com/agendafusion/index.htm
Super Calendar : http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/sc_overview.html
I am currently using the today Plugin for calendar and tasks "Today Agenda" (http://tiews.info/index.php?show=software/todayagenda&lang=en) which is compatible with Informant and Agenda. I have not tested it with Super Calendar yet.
Questions :
1) Calendar tool with least memory stamp ?
2) Least buggy ?
3) Which is BEST ?
Other tools found:

Only one I can comment on is Agenda Fusion.
I ditched it after taking far too long to open upwards of 5secs - and was too much to bear if needing a quick TODAY check or quick "Need a phone number" fix.
I also disagreed with the fact I paid for v7 and then had to pay an upgrade fee for v8 that "apparently" solved some compatibility issues with WM5.
Havent tried any of the others - sorry.
Matt
Sometimes when the TODAY AGENDA is Running and I change My TODAY SCREEN (wallpaper) The Aganda goes into "Updating" mode and does not update itself for a long time.
The other features work perfectly all right . It is just This Agenda which does Not show any entry.
I have tried HARD RESETTING the device and Fixing The Today agenda Right in the beginning.
The problem is STILL there.
ANY SUGGESTION?
I use the in-build PIM and SPB Diary as today plug-in. Very stable and surprisingly fast. Since most of my calendar/task/mails are now done on the today plug-in, which PIM to use at the back does not bother me anymore. SPB Diary can be installed in external storage hence save on the internal memory.
Depending on how heavy your schedule is.
I've used `Pocket Informant` before and its layout and stuff are pretty good. I came from a Palm5 device and if you heard, Palm5 agenda stuff are pretty impressive and this Pocket Informant is almost as good.
However, Pocket Informant is relatively slow on startup (not much on a memory issue, just start up). However, once you got it started up and sitting on your taskbar, you can access it instantly. I would recommend that if you have heavy schedule.
For my case, I use Pocket Breeze together with the built-in PIM (of WM5). Since I have `medium weight` schedule, I'm pretty happy with PBreeze on my Today screen. Since I can set PBreeze to display my stuff appearing 7 days in advance, I don't usually go into the built-in PIM to check on my stuff. PBreeze has also direct links to your appointment/task for which you can then edit them. And I have the WM5-new-menu program that can create new task/appt easily, I hardly use any sort of PIM (e.g. Pocket Informant).
Anyway, these software has trial period, give it a go and see if you like it.

Well frankly speaking My Schedule on Appointments is Not so heavy, Just 3-5 entries a day.
Yes I have tried SPB diary But SINCE MY ADDRESS BOOK has 2800 or more Contacts that does take time to load up...
I have tried A New software (FREEWARE) Calender Plus the Link of which I got from here only and thats just working Fine Now...
Calendar Today Plugin: http://www.mohairsofa.com/Default.aspx/document/10
I have tested Super Calendar and Agenda Fusion.
Agenda seams to much calendar for me.
Supper Calenda is lite. It enhances the Month and Year view compared to the WM5 standard calendar. Does not do tasks or contacts.
Todays Agenda is the BEST today plugin, and seams to work ok with Super Calenda.
I have found Ulti Planner at : http://www.birdsoft.biz/upmain.htm
which is lite on memory and covers calendar, tasks, contacts. Also has text in month view.

Business people out there?

Hi
I have my HD for already a week and it's amazing!!.
but I decided to buy it because I needed a tool like this for business purposes, by now I'm using it for mail on the go, and of course like a powerful agenda with Pocket Informant, but due my short experience with a pocket PC, I know that there must be much more uses and software that I don't know yet, then I would like to ask for advices about this matter, may be software or even tips to be able to to take more advantages of this incredible phone!
BTW I found this two thread, but are quite short

hi, im not quite sure what you are asking for? but, i use mine for work to. i dont find the need for anything extra than what is already included in M$ mobile office
i use the calendar and outlook which is synced through my organisations exchange server though activesync over the mobile network. in the main i do this manually but also by setting it up to do autosync at intervals.
you can set it to have pushmail too if your companies mail server will allow this
pocket outlook does all that the full pc version does (near as dammit) email, access to my corporate address book, meeting scheduling and invites etc etc
is that what you wanted to know?
OK, here is the "business" oriented sub-set of all my apps:
apMemo 2.3 http://www.apsoftsystems.com/apmemo/index.htm
apMemo allows for alarmed note taking on the go
Ilium Listpro 5.0.0.2016 http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/lp/listpro.htm
Listpro is great - I use this for whole loads of lists on the PC and HD and swop the lists back and forth
Metro 5.71 http://www.nanika.net/Metro/
Metro is useful for business trips (and pleasure)
MxCalculator 2.1 http://www.trancreative.com
NewsGator Go! 2.0.0.25419 http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals...o/Default.aspx
I use a RSS feeder for business news
Pocket Informant 8.51 http://www.webis.net/index.php
RCX Lexipedia 1.2 http://www.revolution.cx/Lexipedia/Lexipedia.htm
Yes, I know this is an old app but it's still there when I need answers and don't want to go online
SBSH PocketBreeze 5.4.15 http://www.sbsh.net/products/windows...c/pocketbreeze
Fantastic today plugin to view my calender (must be used with SecondToday)
SPB Finance 2.7.0 http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/finance/?en
Not really business, but keeps track my my finances
From my thread comment: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3117017&highlight=secondtoday#post3117017
I use keepass for securing those important but (sometimes) easy to forget ID's & passwords:

thanks, well yes something like that I was looking for, but may be a little more focused in meetings and projects, I'm using list Listpro for this two purposes but I can imagine there are better and specialize software for this.
about meetings I need to lead meeting sometimes, and write down some ideas or comments in each topic on this meetings.
same with projects, I start a project, and I need to write down all the steps of it, and the progress of each one too
thanks Cheesy Dave, there are really useful app there!
thanks audscott
i guess im a caveman when it comes to such business things... i just use ms word to make lists
notepad for basic notes
i find that the ms mobile office suite included does all i need (along with the other software in pocket outlook such as tasks etc)
small tip if you do want to use a different front end like SBSH PocketBreeze or spb pocketplus etc
dont need to run secondtoday type progs which just chew up more memory, just untick manila from the today plugins screen and do away with manila. personally i find it to be just bells and whistles and not much function, uses loads more system resources than other after market apps with nothing more (less in my opinion) on offer
i use spb pocketplus together with spb weather and spb phone suite all sat as my front screen. i can access all my needed software with one touch, make calls with one touch, switch ring profiles with one touch fire up wifi with one touch... in fact 99% of what i need to do with my HD i do with 1 touch using this set of software. the only time i need to use the stylus is for typing (im kak handed using my fingers to type and am pretty fast with the stylus)
as i said up there^^^^ i use MS office for all my other bits as i can bang it stright over to my laptop to use the full versions if necessary
i guess its down to what you need, what you like and what you get used to. ive been using this combo of progs for 4 years now so am a bit stuck in the mud so to speak
ill try to do a screen grab of my today page to show you what i mean.... but you might not like it as i am very much in favour of function over form
(ive trialled spb mobile shell and spb diary but again find them unecessary.... why do you need a diary on your today screen when it is one touch away and a hell of a lot more confidential if your diary isnt open for all to see all the time (i work in healthcare so confidentiality is a big requirement! )
business
I have been using pda in my construction business for many years to keep appointments. I tend to forget them and rely on the alarm. I have most of the incoming phone calls redirected to the phone. I use agenda one because you can link contacts to appointements i.e the alarm sounds to tell me to meet Mrs Smith. I click on that and it brings up Mrs Smiths address.
We are trying business contact manager for outlook in the office as a CRM and have tried the pda add in to view them. It just does,t work. I have heard over other software that makes the contacts visible in outlook mobile.
I also use mine mainly for Business (and pleasure), work in an Australasian role with travel in Australia and New Zealand.
Must admit I am VERY impressed with the function and accuracy of WorldCard mobile. Sure beats the manual data entry of B-Card info
A few of the apps I'm using on my HD
SPB Traveller - to manage my flights, accomodation and rental car bookings.
GarminXT - with Australia and New Zealand maps to help me get to the places I need to.
SPB Weather - helps me know what to expect and what to take when I travel.
SPB Time - My travel alarm clock etc.
SPB Wallet - Helps me remember the multitude of logon details for company (and private)
systems access as well as credit cards and so on.
SPB Finance - Tracks my out of office expenses for me.
Pocket Investor - Mobile management of my stocks.
Softmaker Suite - A really great set of applications which provide me FULL edit and formatting alignment for my Word, Excel and Powerpoint files.
Pocket Informant - Replaces the PIM
RESCO Utility pack - Great file management for shifting documents around, deleting etc.
A few other general apps.
HD Tweak
Gsen
Sprite Backup
MSS Convertor
SKTools
SPB Mobile Shell (but using the "ChangeSKIN" application to provide multiple contact photo screens etc. )
SPB Phone Suite
SPB Brain Evolution
Opening multiple files in Excel Mobile

Hi jonajuna, I am a new Touch HD user (and this is my first PDA). Since you use the Office so extensively, could you please help me - how can I open more than one document e.g. in Excel? I often use Excel documents in my work and I constantly need to copy&paste info from one Excel file into another.
Thanks!
I'm also useing mine for business and pleasure. Works well with appointments, addresses, GPS, etc. during business hours.
I've picked up an HTC Touch HD, and I'm a semi-business/pleasure/personal user.
Here are some of the items that I found were useful for me.
As far as the MSDict and MSPhrase apps go, you can find English -> Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Russian, Malaysian, Chinese (trad and simplified), Korean and so on!
Here are the links for the Japanese one since I've been up all night downloading these.
http://htc-touch-hd-t8282.handster.com/product.php?id=3113
http://htc-touch-hd-t8282.handster.com/product.php?id=639
And SPB Traveler is great when it comes on converting common knowledge from overseas such as units, clothing sizes and linguistics as it helps me identify and use the right phrases.
http://htc-touch-hd-t8282.handster.com/product.php?id=439
Also, since I'm both in class and at work, sometimes I'll need a really powerful calculator and the Touch HD does not disappoint with it's capabilities.
http://htc-touch-hd-t8282.handster.com/product.php?id=3627

There you go, hope this helps.
Hi there,
i´m also one of those guys who using the HTC HD for business.

Travelling -> SPB Traveller
If you need further information, just let me know.

Switch to Android if.......

Android is smooth as silk on my HD2 but....I keep going back to WM 6.5X
The data here is overwhelming. I would love to switch if I could do most of below. Any advice would be appreciated...

Outlook Tasks & Category sync MS exchange -MUST HAVE -
Outlook Notes Sync - NICE TO HAVE -
PIM app that also shows color categories (that have been synced through Exchange) -MUST HAVE - (Even better with a month view that allows certain icons to be seen ala Pocket Informant, based on category).
Pinch to zoom any program/app or home screen - MUST HAVE -
Word & Excel sync through USB cable -MUST HAVE -
Folder sync i.e. Mobile document folder ala WM 6.5 – I sync a lot of Word docs & they seamlessly appear on my phone, showing the most recently open/added file on PC or phone- through HTC Document Viewer. I use this a lot! -REALLY NICE TO HAVE -
Help me make the switch. Thanks to anyone who chimes in!
Hi
androids with "Sense" on sd is syncing great with htc sync version 3
all outlook that you requests
and with usb also,
but not sure about the colors
now using the phiremod SkinnyEvo Final Edition, thanks to great dev's
it syncs outlook easy and good,
bye
Thanks - But does it sync all that you mentioned thru MS Exchange?
I've found voice quality and gps are
better in wm65. Other than those, android is much better in other areas.

Hopefully a WP7/WM 6.5 Dual Boot is in the works....I think WP7 will evetually be able to replace WM 6.5.
