I had a HTC Desire and bought a Galaxy S. I didn't notice a big different between the screen on those 2. Now I bought the Desire HD, and I'm VERY disappointed with the screen on this! Yesterday I ordered a Galaxy Tab, but I cancelled it now, as I'm VERY afraid that this screen is not as good as the one on the Galaxy S. Having used an AMOLED, I think everything else is a step-down...
Anybody used a Galaxy S for some time that uses the Pad? How is the screen quality? What about Androids coming soon with at least 4" Amoled?
Samsung manufacture something like 90%+ of all the AMOLED panels in the world and they've only just announced the first 7" on for use in mobile devices, so it'll be a while before we see anything Tab-sized with an AMOLED or sAMOLED display (current rumours say June 2011).
The screen on the tab is excellent. I doubt any of the alternatives currently running android have better screens, so its a pity you cancelled your order.
I have an HTC Desire and bought a Galaxy Tab over the weekend. The screen on the Tab is really good - it's very, very bright and very clear. Only difference is the blacks aren't quite as 'black' as the HTC.
Re-order, you won't regret it.

Ditto!
The screen on the Tab is very good, even when compared to the AMOLED Desire.

Is very very good

Two thumbs up. Don't know what the fuss is all about on AMOLED. The Tab is real beautiful.

I find the Tab's display more than adequate. The colors are vibrant (saturation can be adjusted) and the white/black levels can be configured too.
The IPS technology used in the latest Apple products offer better viewing angles (in terms of maintaining color and contrast), whereas the Tab's display tends to wash-out some details. That being said, it is still amongst the better displays, nothing deal-breaking. There's also a slight issue with regards to refresh rates, which creates a tiny bit of ghosting, particularly visible with text rendering. Once again, it's a really minor issue, just being picky here.
Overall, I absolutely love reading and playing on the device, the screen is simply beautiful. I haven't tried outdoors yet, but I guess it's like every single multitouch-display out there: it sucks !
I also have a Vibrant but so far the Tab's screen has very good so far. I've only had it for less than a day but I can say it's at least not strikingly apparent.
I have both Galaxy S and Tab.
Side by side, S has better screen. Black is really black because of the amoled technic and the overall contrast is better.
But Tab has also very good screen, it is excellent. If there wasn't the S to compare, I couldn't imagine any better.
i was on dell (US) website to check the venue pro, but to my surprise, dell has almost all the other WP7 device BUT THE VENUE PRO is not one of them...
i wanted to get one for my self, IN malaysia singapore sales and marketing ppl have no clue what i am talking about.. so i wonder if the support will be as good as the info on this device..
i am leaning to the HD7 90% now..

I have an HD7 in my hands right now and I still think the DVP is a better buy. If you can, try to hold out a little longer. Pink camera, loose volume button and kickstand, washed out old generation LCD. Fake speakers up front (only has the one speaker in the back.)
I will say the HD recording isn't too shabby and it's nice to have a led charge and missed call notification.
I agree with the above. I just returned my HD7 to get the Venue Pro. It was hard to do as I loved Windows Phone 7, the AMOLED, Gorilla Glass and keyboard all make it a better buy.
Have to say I'm not sure on the AMOLED. While it looks fantastic at first, the more I have a play with the samsung (in store - I don't own one), the less convinced I am. It has real pop, no doubt, but the colours actually are too fake and saturated for me long term. But then I'm pretty fussy about colour reproduction - colours that are too saturated tire the eye very quickly and give a false impression.
So while the AMOLED screens undoubtedly give the phones a wow factor when you first see them, living day to day, I'm leaning more back towards LCD now. The wife has the HD7, and having played with it a lot, it's a great screen - calmer and more realistic.
On the keyboard I'm with you - I always like to at least have the option of a hardware keyboard. On gorilla glass I couldn't comment as I've not seen it in action - don't know how well it handle bright light and reflection.

I owned a Nexus One for about 8 months and this HD7 for a week now. I think it's going to be personal preference for most people. I can't stand how washed out the HD7 looks, but AMOLED is def over saturated, though.
When I try to think back and remember if the N1's screen ever gave me any issues, I honestly can't remember a time where I was like screw AMOLED this sucks.

It is about choice. One is not superior over the other. They both have their pros and cons. after having AMOLED OR (S)AMOLED everything LCD or S-LCD will appear washed out. That's because you have been.looking at an overly saturated screen all this time.
The colors are more.natural on LCD. The text is smoother because there is no Pentile Matrix to deal with. On brighter backgrounds the LCD is better on battery life.
It all goes back to choice.

Just picked up a new nexus s (new years eve) from carphonewarehouse in brighton and it has an SLCD. Is this common in uk as i thought it was just happening in russia etc..????
I have an AMOLED Desire so i can see a massive difference and about to return it. Any benefit in SLCD???
Wring section but I don't know any.pros over super amoled.

Really? Damn that sucks. The screen is probably my favorite thing about this phone.
SLCD? What a ripoff. Why aren't they using Super Amoled???
Yeh a little peeved as the demo one I tested was AMOLED but the one in the box wasnt. Grrrr
super amolded = the best, period.

Look at it.
The major difference is when looking at the image with black background.
As SAMOLED has unlimited contrast, black is totally black.
only the russian nexus s models have slcd. can't find the link to the article, but I remember reading about this.
edit : here's the article http://androidcommunity.com/nexus-s...d-in-russia-instead-of-super-amoled-20101207/
OMG!!!!!!!! noooooooo, i hate it when the manufacture process changes half way through the release of a product (example HTC Desire)
i'm glad our batch in USA has SAMOLED.... but what will happen after if we need to send in our for repair? are we going to lose the SAMOLED to be replaced with a Sony LCD ? like they did with the Desire?
ewww....
i think i'd rather go back to a Tmobile Vibrant if that ever happens
Well slcd has it benefits. First you get regular RGB pixels instead of ugly Pentile. Second LCD's are not prone to "burn in" and shioter life of amoled. There are toms of threads about samoled burn in and rapid dimness.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
hahaha. i cant believe this. what a total f*** up.
It couldn't be. My friend just purchase one for me in carphonewarehouse. If it is slcd, I'd rather her return it. Confirm?

the only reason i purchased this phone and SGS was to get the SAMOLED screen
if it was not for it, there are tons of better choices for an Android phone
there is simply nothing else better that can compare to the crispy clear quality of the SAMOLED
and most importantly it works under bright sunlight

You think so?
They can't write Super AMOLED on the specs and sell a LCD, can you add some pictures of the screen?
I'd be surprised if you have a slcd screen! When the phone is off does your screen have a dark blue(ish) tinge to it? It does look different from a simple amoled screen, did some one tell you from carphone warehouse that it was scld?
This is very unlikely, surely?
As someone has said, the SAMOLED screen is one of the major selling points. If it didn't have it, I'd probably stick with my Desire HD!
It's almost like swapping in a 600mhz CPU and selling it.
Are you sure it is SLCD?
Do we have a really solid way to check this?
Probably by using image with different shades of black? Then turn the contrast to max or something.
Post comparison photo with your HTC Desire please ...

People may say that out super amoled display is getting old and everything, but its only getting old compared to the super + varients and hd amoleds. so far i have not seen a smart phone capable of my vibrants supreme colors and deep blacks. dont forget viewing angles. my cuzzin was all happy cuz she got a htc vivid n thought the screen was better than mine cuz it was bigger lol. then i showed her mine next to hers and she was like wtf? it doesnt look as white or bright lol. gosh, im never getting rid of the vibrant till the hd plus varients come out. forget lcd. its just outdated and a waste of time. nokia and samsung know that
HTC has used amoled before I don't see why they don't continue and Motorola has used it Led Tech is simple better plane an simple

The only thing I never liked was with the stock rom/kernel from when I first got my vibrant is missed calls and texts kept the screen lit, especially overnight, which in turn kind of burnt the notification bar and clock slightly into the screen that I notice on a white screen  no fix for that I assume?

Yup, over the holidays my aunt hade a point to mention how ..er.. vibrant my screen was. Her adult sons have smartphones so it's not like she's never seen one before, but mine stood out.
Then again, maybe it was because I was letting my niece watch Spongebob.
Lol. you know idk why people over exagerate saying that our screens are not "sharp" seems pretty sharp to me. its a nice trade of for having everything else superior
Our screen does kinda suck compared to other phones... But i've noticed my screen seems to be the most durable. I've stepped on my phone a couple times, it dropped then i get out of the car and crack.... I even stepped on it one time with a rock on the side and the screen doesn't have a single scratch..
Thats about all I can say I like.

Hell I like the screen on this phone even more than the one on the galaxy s 2. The galaxy s 2's screen just doesn't look as nice and the colors are weird. Maybe its cause of that blueish tint. And the low resolution on that bug of a screen? Eww

Older phones like the HTC HD2 couldn't match our phones AMOLED display, but when your talking about the new Galaxy S2, or even a phone like the HTC Amaze both have fascinating displays.
I've compared them side by side and i personally think our phones have more of a yellowish tint that isn't so great.

You shouldn't be comparing a new phone to an older phone in the first place, chances are the new one will always be better.

This is true, but call me crazy I thought my G2 had a better display. and the HTC Evo was pretty sweet..
It's just something about this offset yellowish tint. The whites never seen pure, although i'll give it the black is definantly more black than an LCD.
don't you guys have voodoo control center to tweck colors?

I've never used an AMOLED screen until I saw the Galaxy S4 but it does look really nice and the blacks are unbelievable. However, almost every reviewer and person I talk to says how AMOLED is garbage and that LCD is by far better.
Does anybody actually prefer AMOLED to LCD?
Well... everyone in this forum lol.
AMOLED is better since it can be set to look like LCD (color-wise). LCD can't be like AMOLED no matter what.

Ask sony, panasonic, LG and samsung why push OLED TV and why those TV are so expensive when compare to LCD TV
As of right now, I'm not really that impressed with the S4's screen after coming from the HTC One. I'm hoping there's some mods on here that will change my mind because it might be the deciding factor as to whether or not the S4 is my daily driver or backup phone.

I'm an AMOLED guy. Love those displays. My One S has one, my Note 2 had one and now my Galaxy S4 has one. The colours of those displays are awesome. Only disadvantage is the brightness. On very bright day it's hard to see something on an AMOLED

It's all a fad, back when flip phone screens were all TFT everyone prefered the OLED screens that nokia used in their devices. I personally find LCD screens dull and boring in comparison to AMOLED screens.
