DINC & QPST Communication... - Droid Incredible General

I'm needing this to work. The Droid Incredible to connect to QPST properly. All phones so far have been connecting to QPST as "Surf" something or another. Even if you read up about the Evo and QPST it shows up as SURF and is allowed to be modded any way.
The Droid Incredible, atleast mine shows up as something different and is very lacking in things able to be changed.
The Phone shows up as QCT-6200. And only allows Minimal Changes, Settings, CDMA, System, Roam, Sounds, Features, Phone Book and Data are the only avail. tabs. And even they are limited. I have not changed a thing in any of these with fear of crippling the phone with the wrong settings.
Does anyone know what I can do to get the phone to react with QPST the proper way? Someone on here tried claiming that all the settings of the phone like MIP and stuff like that can be changed with QPST (I know thats its natural function as I have flashed hundreds of phones in my time) but the kid was unwilling to tell me how the phone is able to interact with QPST in order to do so.
Anything I need to change on the phone or within the settings of QPST?

mine shows up as:
FFA/SURF QSD8650 Rev 2.0
I didn't do anything special. just installed drivers from latest htc sync.

What version QPST you using? Cause I've been trying and trying and cannot get the phone to load up to QPST as anything other than what I said. If I could get it running the way you do, I'd be soo f'n happy.
I'm on 2.7 Build 301.
I use ##DIAG and then connect USB. And it shows up as QCT-6200.
You can understand why I'd be scared to mess with things if the phone is not connecting properly.
***EDIT*** Well I just upgraded to a newer version, not much newer and it works now! FFA/SURF QSD8650 Rev 2.0! Everything works.

Phone Not connecting to Network

Not sure if any of you guys here have faced this issue. But quiet often when I reboot my phone it starts up to the home screen and then doesn't connect to the wireless network, so basically i see the home screen and none of the buttons work, I remove the battery several times and suddenly it connects to the network.
Is this a known issue and is there a workaround?
I use the official windows mobile 6.1 rom released by HTC for the Sprint Mogul
I'm hearing two problems here:
1 - Your phone doesn't connect to the network. Have you tried to do a hard reset? That sounds like a software issue. Make sure you back up all of your cab files and contacts/mail/texts that you want to keep.
2 - Your buttons don't work. That sounds like a hardware issue and not necessarily related to the network issue. Have you brought it in to a Sprint store to see if they can repair or replace your phone?
i am also facing same problem, my mogul shows wifi on status but does not detects the wireless network, and after several on/off (through wifi on off hardware slider) it sometimes gets connected.
Please help
Its neither 1 or 2.
usually when you switch a sprint phone on you get a pop up saying "connecting to the sprint network dialing # 777" and after sometime, once the network connects then the phone is fully functional.
sometimes for my phone on rebooting it doesnt connect to the sprint network and as a result my phone remains unusable, in the sense the touch screen/buttons dont work. after several soft resets/battery removal it finally connects. I live in an area where there is good network connectivity!

OK, thanks. That gives me a much clearer picture. I don't think this is a network problem. You most likely have something on your phone that causes it to freeze during start-up. Did you install something new or make a registry change just prior to this starting? Also, would you be willing to either reflash or hard reset your phone? A new flash with a re-cooked or different ROM will most likely help you out.
which recooked rom would you suggest. I use the default windows 6.1 rom released by sprint. and btw I removed phone alarm from my phone and it starts up fine now.
There are a few great options, and it's personal preference.
Ryan has made some very good ROMs available here on the upgrade forum.
DCD's last public version are still widely popular.
TPLane37 has made some neat WM 6.5 ROMs available
There's also some good stuff going on over at ppcgeeks.com using the most recent build of WM 6.5
You can also try cooking your own ROM using the tools at ppckitchen.org
Make sure you read up on how to flash before you try it. The process involves a number of steps that must be completed in the proper order.

Common Hero 200 Problems and Solutions

Hi!
I thought I'd start a thread where we can iron out problems everyone seems to have with the Hero 200. Googling these things yields some spotty results, and one main website for cricket/metropcs flashing info is currently down. (The mobile files.com site)
Here's what I've come across as a newcomer to the Hero, trying to get it set up for rooting, flashing to another carrier like cricket, etc... If it's ok for this thread to stay around, I'd be happy to go back and edit this post with the answers to these problems and/or links to websites that have specific solutions that work. (Some of the problems I'll list here, I've already figured out but I don't have time at the moment to go ahead and put the solution in.)
Terminology http://thecricketmafia.com/free-beginners-guide-to-modifying-repairing-and-flashing-phones/
Problem 1 - Installing the correct version of HTC Sync and HTC Drivers so that the PC recognizes the Hero.
Problem 2 - Rooting the Hero. (An excellent guide for this is available here in this forum, but for completeness sake, I've listed the problem.)
Solution 2 Theresthatguy made an excellent guide here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583291
Problem 3 - Getting a COM port assigned to the Hero and installing the HTC DIAG drivers so that qPST and CDMA Workshop will work.
Problem 4 - The "Broadband Workaround Trick" people refer to, where you can use a Cricket Broadband account to backdoor your way into internet access on the Hero.
Problem 5 - Flashing a CDMA Hero 200 to Cricket/MetroPCS for talk and text
Solution 5 (in progress, not fully solved yet) Here's a cached, text only version of the only thing I've found about this... http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache...+cricket&hl=en&client=firefox-a&gl=us&strip=1
Problem 6 - Flashing a CDMA Hero 200 to Cricket/MetroPCS for SMS/internet
Solution 6 (in progress, not fully solved yet) It would seem that to do this, the first thing in the process is to get CDMA Workshop and qPST, and probably at least one other program, up and running and communicating with the phone. However, just getting Windows (Windows 7 in my case) to install the drivers is keeping me and many others from getting started!
Problem 7 -
If I've missed a thread on here where someone has already consolidated this info, then my apologies! Flashing to Cricket, getting a COM port assigned and loading HTC DIAG drivers, and the Broadband trick, as well as finding a way to enable SMS and/or internet are my problems for the moment. I'm sure I can figure out most of my questions if I could just get Windows to install the HTC DIAG drivers! I've even tried setting up a VMPlayer with WinXP on it, but I gave up out of frustration last night and am waiting for some time to try again.
By the way, is it just me or is the Wifi really weak in this device? My Dell Axim x51v picks up stronger signals from the Wireless G Router next door to me and it's only a wireless-B adapter!

How i got MNS (Usb internet sharing) to work on 2.1 PRI 1.70_003

First off here are my specs:
Using windows 7 ultimate (x86)
"Non Google" branded phone
Firmware Vrs: 2.1-update1
Baseband: 1.04.01.09.21
Kernel: 2.6.29-d30020a8
Build: RegawMOD v2.0.1
Software: 2.20.651.1
PRI: 1.70_003
PRL: 60663
First off let me say that i never had to use the PRI fix or use my MSL to reset the device (although i have it just in case =P).
I did hear though that the 1.70 PRI did not work well for the MNS and even heard it didnt work for Damage and Regaw's Roms. But i wanted it to work badly enough i worked on trying to fix it for days =P.
I havnt tested it on the newest damage or regaw roms yet, just regaw 2.0.1.
I pretty much followed the guide i found here for the HTC tattoo. http://blog.brightpointuk.co.uk/installing-htc-tattoo-usb-modem-windows-7
So first off these are the exact steps i went through to eventually get it working; go to start/programs/HTC and uninstall your HTC sync and HTC drivers, IF they are there that is. Leave your phone unplugged for now. Restart your computer when and if it asks.
Go to http://www.htc.com/www/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=283&act=sd&cat=all and get the latest HTC Sync.
Install the sucker, when it asks you to take off your firewalls and such, do that just in case. Go to control panel/Windows firewall/change firewall settings to turn them off.
When the install is completely finished turn back on your firewall. Then Restart your PC again. When you reboot, plug in your phone once and choose the "Disk Drive" setting, let your PC find the drivers and install them, when it finishes, scroll down the notification bar on the phone, tap charge only, then go change your phone to HTC sync, let it install any other drivers then change your phone internet sharing. It will install some more drivers again, if it fails to do so, follow what the guide from the link says. Also please disable any current wireless connections or wired connections you may have at the moment =P. A new wired connection should come up identified as "Connection 4 or 5 or 6" depending on how many existing types of internet connections you have. Set it to home settings, open up internet explorer, go try google.com as your first site to see if it works =P.
Thats it. Thats what i did, pretty much i just reinstalled all the drivers and tried the new HTC sync. Personally i think it was the versions of the drivers that made it work. But who knows =P
Post your experiences/fixes you came up with so everyone can start to use the feature. Also please post the OS you are using because that will make a difference.
That shouldn't work where as the 67 error that everyone is getting is a SPRINT registration error, nothing to do with drivers on the pc lol
I used to get the 67 error as well =P
now it works after i did this
something to try at least.

ok I have xp, i'll try it out (or something similar)
But were ya saying that the error 67 is a network communication error?
like the phone is contacting sprint to see if your account has the PAM feature or something?
cause my plan includes the PAM feature cause im a sprint employee, but i was still getting the error 67 on 1.5 and earlier 2.1 sprint leak roms.

[Q] How does one restart the core USB service(s)?

Hello,
The Android 2.1 RUU update from Sprint ("HTC Sprint Hero MR 2.27.651.6.exe") caused USB connectivity between my Sprint HTC Hero and my PC to stop functioning. I followed all directions while performing the RUU update (and I'm fairly tech-savvy). Everything functions perfectly well with the exception of USB connectivity. The menu that normally appears when the phone is connected to the PC (options for "Charge only", "Disk drive", etc.) does not appear on my phone. The phone charges while connected, however, and USB connectivity DOES indeed function in FastBoot mode. So, it's not the USB cable or the phone's hardware.
I am not the only individual with this problem. There is a lengthy thread about it on Sprint's official community forums: google.com/search?q=sprint.com%3ALoss+of+USB+connectivity+from+HTC+Hero+to+Windows+PC+after+Android+2.1+update
I was able to root my phone and install a custom ROM without the ability to connect my Hero to my PC. I did this with the use of another Hero (I have two identical models in my household). I intend to post instructions for others to follow, once I find reliable solution.
I installed the "EXTBLUE_04SEP.zip" ROM using the "recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img" image. Surprisingly, I still have no USB capabilities, even though USB continues to function as expected when the phone is in FastBoot mode.
When I first called my local Sprint service location about this problem (several months ago), they said, "We're aware of this problem. It will take a couple of hours to fix. We need to restart the USB services on the device." I'm not exactly sure to which services he was referring, which is why I've come for help. It's worth noting that one customer in the sprint.com thread said that the store could not fix his phone (big surprise) and that they had a new phone shipped to him.
Having the phone replaced seems silly. With root access to the device, there must be some diagnostic process I can follow in order to determine which USB-related services are failing to start.
I find it odd that the lack of USB connectivity would persist across different ROMs, but after all, they are based on the same Android builds.
I even formatted the ext partition, cleared all user data, etc. before updating the ROM. The ROM works beautifully... except for USB.
I am deeply appreciative for any insights that the experts here may be able to offer.
Thank you in advance.
If you are running 2.1 I would try usb switcher from the market. There are some other usb mount widgets, some are free and some are paid. I do not know if usb switcher works on the Hero, but i was using a widget that I just clicked on to enable usb. If you are on 2.1 do a search in market for usb and you should find some.
Go download PDANet from here: http://www.junefabrics.com/android/
Install that on your computer, and then when it wants you to connect your phone, connect it. It should install the drivers for you. Then you should be able to use your phone with your comp
Thank you both for your replies.
I tried downloading the only free USB mounting app from the Market, but it crashes on launch. Others have complained about the same behavior in the app reviews.
Further, it seems as though such apps are simply replacements for the included "USB switcher" app that asks the user what to do when the phone is connected to a computer. Given that my core USB functionality is "dormant" (or outright busted), I suspect that these apps will have no effect, even if they worked as designed.
PDANet brought no joy, either. I installed the software and it never detects that the phone is connected.
I should clarify on a couple of points. I have another HTC Hero (also Sprint CDMA) that I also updated to 2.1 (via official RUU) and its USB port functions absolutely fine on the same computer. This fact indicates that it's:
a) not the USB cable
b) it's not the PC (and therefore not HTC Sync, drivers, etc.)
In other words, the drivers are installed on the PC, and function as expected with anyone else's Hero. My Hero never "presents itself" to the computer, so the result is the same, whether or not drivers are installed on the PC.
Any other thoughts? Thanks again for your responses.
I found the following information regarding the USB kernel module in Ubuntu. Perhaps unloading the module would be useful in this situation, too. In Ubuntu, it's
Code:
# modprobe -w -r usb_storage
# modprobe usb_storage
I suspect that the USB kernel module in Android goes by a different name. Does anyone know what it might be?
Thanks again.
I decided to go a different route here.
I thought about attempting to restore the phone to the condition it was in when I received it, to see if USB would once again function with the older software. After all, USB was fine until I ran Sprint's RUU for Android 2.1.
The phone shipped with "RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1.exe" or similar, I believe. But when I tried to run that RUU in "FastMode", the installer failed with "Bootloader version mismatch" (error message may not be verbatim).
So, I decided to try installing the same software that "bricked" my USB functionality in the first place (downloaded from Sprint's website). Surprisingly, that RUU executable ("HTC Sprint Hero MR 2.27.651.6.exe") actually worked for restoring my phone to a suitable condition in which to bring it to a local Sprint store.
It looks like replacing the phone is the only real option when the 2.1 update wrecks the phone's USB functionality.
The most curious bit is that RUUs install perfectly fine over FastBoot. The USB-related hardware is obviously functional if it works in FastBoot mode. The question is why doesn't USB function in ANY ROM (including the official Sprint ROMs)?
I've given-up. I'll report back after I return from the Sprint store. (In other words, there should be no means by which the store is able to determine that I rooted my phone at any point, and thus my warranty should still apply.)
The only reason I mentioned an app to toggle mounting the sdcard is that when I was messing with apps on my phone I deleted one that toggled the choice of charging, mounting, etc. I have extended controls and they have a switch for mounting the sdcard and it worked. There was also some others that i have that worked, but are no longer available in the market.
Makes perfect sense, unCoRrUpTeD. It was a solid suggestion, and I do appreciate your willingness to assist.
I just returned from the Sprint store and they told me that a) the liquid submersion strip had been tripped (it was bright red) and that b) there's a crack at the base of the phone, immediately adjacent to the USB mini port. The technician stated that either of those items could be the cause of the "malfunctioning" USB port.
In other words, they blamed me, told me that my 1-year limited warranty that covers manufacturing defects does not apply (because of the submersion strip and crack) and that I'll have to file an insurance claim if I want a fully-functional phone. I don't feel like I should have to pay a $100 deductible to replace a phone that Sprint's own update wrecked. I sincerely doubt that the USB port ceasing to work immediately after the 2.1 update was a coincidence.
Given that this phone has never been exposed to any type of liquid, and that it's never been dropped (it lives in a silicon case that protects it heavily from both types of damage), I'm a little irked. The silicon case probably traps moisture, hence the tripped submersion strip, and my buddy's Hero cracked in the exact same spot, next to the USB port.
I guess the case on this one is closed for now: I'll have to live without the ability to connect to the phone to the PC. At least FastBoot ROM installations still function.
Thanks again for the help.
You might want to try this and then run the 1.56 RUU and see if it fixes the problem.
Another thing you could try is adbwireless. This will work if you have a wireless router. Download it from the market and then connect your phone to your wireless router. Start adbwirelss and it will give you an ip address. You type this into either the cmd window or terminal and then you can use adb to push or pull crap from your phone. You might also be able to use droid explorer if you are using windows and just do the adb connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5555 and then use droid explorer to see everything.

A501 3G Issues

Hey All
Not sure who can help me here, but i am trying to upgarde to 3.2 which i have done with great sucess but every rom i try does not display either the wifi network i am connected to or the 3g network name or speed. It just displays (no service) when in 3G mode and nothing in wifi mode. is there a configuration i need to set or change in the config files??
Am running Acer_A501_1.309.24_EMEA_CUS7 as its the only rom (being the one that came with the device) that shows these notifications.
You'll find this is a common issue, as they port the roms mostly for the A500. Although the stock roms are more or less the same, the devs seem to only have A500's which means they don't/can't test them on an a501. So, they mostly leave that part out.
Sometimes, you can simply modify the "build.prop" file, and near the end, you can place a simple "#" on the line that says "wifi only". Usually I do this before I flash the rom (unzip and modify the system/build.prop using wordpad or notepad), then try the flash. This at the very least, opens the menus for network apn's. Doesn't mean it will activate the internal 3g if they didn't include the associated library files.
I've managed to play around the past day, and actually got signal strength on Revolver version 6. But no APN yet, so I suspect a couple files are missing from the rom.
Roms thay do work with the 501;
Taboonay ver 2.0. Also, after installing, I reboot again, and flash Thor's ver 3.5 kernel. Didn't have much luck with newer versions of both.
Honeyvillian from Richard Tripp. The earlier versions, not the most recent as I haven't tried yet.
Lightspeed,,,, I just didn't like it. Ran a touch wonky. Also have to use a patch for 3g.
can you please tell me how do i use 3g?just put the sim on?and if the tablet is bought from acer is it unblocked?

Well, this will depend if you have an ATT Acer 501. If it is the ATT model, it is locked to ATT network.
Usually you can tell when you start it, and have an ATT data widget. Or you can go to Settings, About Tablet, scroll near the bottom and look for the "Build Number". If it has ATT in it, well, it's a locked tablet.
Example : Acer_A501_4.402.03_PA_ATT or something similar.
Always insert the Sim card, with the tablet OFF. You might damage something if you try inserting it with the tablet on. The instructions specify this.
Normally, the tablet will recognize the Sim card, and by default will use the 3g network.
