I bought a Sandisk 8gb micro sd card from Costco and loaded it into the phone. I'm assuming the phone automatically formats the card? Is there any way of checking what format the card is on the phone? I don't have a PC. Thanks!

I have a 2GB Sandisk in my Cingular 8125 and haven't had any problems with the card. I've had some problems with the phone, but not the card.
You should return/exchange it.
Fairly common prob with the 2gb cards, esp the sandisk - try formating the card fat16 on your device, with storage tools or sktools (google both) demos will format your card.

Well, your should delete all ext2/ext3/ext4 and swap partition in your sd card, there partitions are used in Linux, Windows can't recognize them.
thks antonytyler, when i wanna wipe sd:ext partition stated Error : Run 'wipe ext' via console! i need to wipe by using console or any other way.pls help me.thks.
I'm going to assume you have amon_ra's recovery installed on your g1. Put the old memory card in the phone and reboot to recovery. Go to the partition sdcard menu, then go to the partition sd setting and set both linux swap and ext2 to 0. That will give you back all your missing space.
Also, make sure that the new memory card is class 6 I bought a new Samsung 8GB class 6 with a microsd card reader and a sdcard adapter for $23 shipped to my house from amazon.com. It got to my house last week, and it got here 3 days after i ordered it.
It can do in Windows

I remember that Disk Management in Windows can delete your sd card's ext2/ext3/ext4 partition, you should right click "My computer", select "manage", you will find "disk manage", click the item, you will see the partitions on your sd card, then delete them.
PS: back up your data of your FAT32 partition!
i have a 128gb micro sd card what should i format it to and what program to use
The S4 only recognizes the FAT and EXFAT file formats. Simply insert your SD card, go to settings, storage, and then SD Card. From there, you can let Android format your card for you.
If you're worried about speed, file formats don't offer much benefit for Android devices.
I used a card reader on my desktop to backup my SD card then used my phone to format the card. Now my pc (w7) doesn't recognize the sd card and wants me to format it with Windows.
It's a 64 gb card that was formatted to ExFAT with the same pc but I wanted to make sure it wasn't gonna cause a battery drain so I formatted with the phone.
What does the phone format a 64gb card to? I thought it was going to be the same ExFat?
Any advice here or should I just use the usb cable to move stuff back over to the sd card while still inside the phone?

I have recently purchased a SanDisk Extreme Micro SD 64gb SD card for my S7 Edge.
On Android 6.0 I had various issues writing to it. Since the Nougat upgrade it has worked faultlessly until this morning. The phone will not detect it at all.
Is there a compatibility issue with this card or is it simply faulty ?
Sounds like the issue could be the card. It's happened to me with the same SD card.
Connect the sd card to a computer using a SD card reader.
Backup all your data.
Put the SD card in the phone and choose to format it.
Connect SD card to computer and put all files back on the SD card.
Put SD card back in the phone and should work as normal.
That worked for me.
