a today plugin that runs a swf file that acts as the user interface to the device?
is this an impossibility
or is it already possible and I am just unaware?
and yes I searched and wiki'ed (is that a word)
Thanks in advance for the help!

It's hard to get any help here, I know.
a swf file doesn't act as a user interface. A swf file is a dynamic movie, that has a very limited access to the device.
not really.. I could code the flash and make it do all kinds of things
just not sure how to get it to run my flash instead of the today screen.
i r teh puzzled

shouldnt be hard to write one...
you can embedd html's as today apps.... there is a microsoft article somewhere about it...
Please tell me besides fscommand exec, what kind if things?
The today plugin that runs swf in an IE window has the issue of the IE window being a wrapper. So you arent seeing the swf, you are seeing the swf movie running in a browser.
what kinds of things?
How about a menu that moves?

None of these things is much more than 30k and I see SO much potential in the ability to do stuff like this. I just need them to run AS a today plugin that .. well... takes over the device and uses this as a menu instead of the options I see available.
I have seen flash EXE files that accomplish something like this but I am dumbfounded as to how this is accomplished?

Yeah I have a feeling this is going to be something.
Hi Denz, are you thinking of developing a new flash based today app? cos I have got loads of ideas I would love to give to you. My skills are not in programming, but I think I've got a couple of cool ideas. Does it have to be a today app? or could you not just launch it from a nice today icon. For example, you tap an icon and a screen is launched with click and zoom icon to show a photo dialer with finger drag, or all programs icons in a dynamic finger scrollable band. Or maybe I should just stay off the hard stuff for a while?
well I dug around enough and finally found out my answer....
Flash CS3 allows you to develop for mobile devices.
Im a Flash 8 Professional User so I didnt know.
So ... yeah... it can be a today icon or a whole menuing system.
My instincts tell me that the whoneedsaniphone.com guys are already way ahead of me... however, once I get CS3 anything is possible!
I already wanna photo flip by flick thingy... sue me.. Im a gimmick whore.

Not to be rude, but why would I want any of your examples running on my Today's screen. It's nothing but a bunch of complex animations, which will descrease my productivity, consume CPU cycles and eat up the battery. The only practial outcome of this idea is the finger touch posibility, this might actually speed up things.
Remember the next generation of devices are set to be well capable of little jobs like those. More power more memory, the interface needs to be better to use a better device more productively. Every menu will eventually be a 3d animated transformation, not unlike something from the new movie. I agree it could slow my artemis a bit though, but I think it should be developed and I think here is the place. My mind boggles with possibilities of spinning menus and zooming pages.

I've made this app called iTask. it's flash based. with animated menus. I'm on my 4th "build" now.
I have programlaunching, xml weather feed, simple rss news, draw, clock, simple dialpad, storage monitor, battery monitor, memory monitor, sms writer, notepadwriter, small dynamic calendar, many customizable icons and text, submenus, calculator., screenlock, powerdown animation. all made in flash 8 exported to flash 6/7...
if you use the device thing on cs3, you only support wm5+. if you use a flash .exe builder for pocketpc you can play it in wm2003/SE as well.

if you have a swf, with no support from a projector you get very limited access to the device.
a swf in internet explorer can't do the same thing as a flashprojector, because of restrictions. If it didn't have restrictions any idiot could make a "flashvirus" online.
Can you tell me how it "may" act?
So... could it act as a keyboard? you slide your finger about over the letters, they pop up in a bubble, when you release the letter is entered.

in a word... yes.
But also it could pop up boobs with tattoos of the alphabet on them that pop up and wiggle with each poke.
Flash is all cool like that.
hi guys
im just wondering if it would be possible to add transitions like on the iphone to windows mobile. it would look much faster and better with cool fluently animated transition effects, maybe that would make windows mobile seem faster than iphone os..(dreaming must be allowed)...
I have been looking for something like this too. It would definitely appear to shorten application load times by giving you something to look at, not to mention look fancy. For the touch hd, advanced config lets you enable the winmo version of this although it is rather sluggish and refuses to draw the window, so all you get is a box getting larger until it fills the screen.
is that possbile on the diamond too..?..and how?...i guess its a cool start...but maybe its possbile to make these effects kinda go fast...like on the nokia 5800...or iphone...
Its in Advanced Config.
found it now....it might be a beginning, but it looks alot cooler on other operating systems. is is possible to make it look better?
Well,
It's a simple question, is it possible to run rhobuntu {ubuntu tweaked to run on rhodium... } on blueangel.
Here's the link for those who would liek to see what i'm talking about :forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640785
well, As of now, i can run it on my touch diamond 2, but when i try to run it on blueangel, it just hangs and sits there until it gets a reset. But given that it runs perfectly on touch diamond2, there must be something that can be tweaked to make it run on BA, or atleast this is something that the more knowledgeable ones of us can try
I like the idea of running it on BA better than diamond2 because BA has a screen nearly 1.5 times wider, and a little longer too, would look better ; plus it has its own keyboard etc etc.
Well, in case someone else hasn't already started an initiative for this, i would like to request you to... in the most humble way possible
Regards.
it wouldn't look better as it couldn't look better. both the rhodium and your topaz have a display resolution of 480*800 WVGA, whereas the blueangel has 240*320 QVGA.
that means, by simply porting it, i.e. changing display resolution settings and several hardware mounts, it would show less than a quarter of what you can see now. have a look at the screenshots, the blue space marks, what you would be able to see on the BA.
i have to say, it is a great project, but the rhodium and topaz hardware is so much better than the BA's, you should rather ask the developer for a zoom function, if you like it bigger, i don't see that working on the blueangel
how about ...
with nyditot virtual display.... or similar software for bigger resolution...
i think we should still try its possibility, if it boots then improvements can take place...
for example, what's the screen comparison of a computer vs. touch diamond... someone gave it a try and then they improved upon it ... things happen 1 stage at a time right ?
i'd like to think if someone more knowledgeable can make it run, then i can try every lil thing to try to make it better... i just don't know how to make it boot on a ba...
gimme a clue and i'll try everything else that someone with my knowledgebase {very little} can ..
My guess is that without hardware acceleration, ubuntu would probably run as slow as molasses in the BA. Although, it does sound like a tempting idea. I think we have a better shot at getting Android to work properly in the BA, which I would be very interested in seeing/working on.
Hi,
i am developing a game that uses canvas.
My game handles the graphic and all others for small screens and for normal screens.
I want to use the Android internal "Auto-Upscaling Feature" only for large Screens.
I put the following in the manifest file:
PHP:
<supports-screens
android:smallScreens="true"
android:normalScreens="true"
android:largeScreens="false"
android:anyDensity="false"/>
That should work? But Android does also downscale the graphics for smallScreens.
Has anyone an idea?
Thank you! And sorry for my bad English
[funcoder]
Hmmm, maybe try setting anyDensity to true? I don't know if it will work. Do you have separate graphic resources for small screens? I also am trying to work out the most effective and elegant way to support multiple screens for something I am working on.
Hey Guys,
This is my first post here on xda-developers.com. I have recently installed A7Comb on my Elocity A7 tablet in order to access the android market as well as to develop for Honeycomb. I have run into a problem however, when I instantiate a opengl es GLSurfaceView like so in the activities onCreate callback:
setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE);
GLSurfaceView view = new GLSurfaceView(this);
view.setRenderer(_render);
setContentView(view);
the surface does not take up the entire screen as it used to on Android 2.2 and all other tablets I have tested on. Could it be the device resolution/lcddensity or something in the Android Manifest file or am I missing a call/extra argument to an Android api function?
Any input would be appreciated.
a7comb OP already states you may want to change your screen resolution using LCD density changer or another app of that sort to a density of 100.
Hope that answers your question
It takes up the full screen if I use lcddensity and set it to 240. But is there a way to specify resolution programmatically? I've downloaded an opengl app off the android market called "OpenGL Frame Rate Test" and it takes up the full screen so I'm thinking I must be missing a setting in the AndroidManifest.xml file.
also the bluetooth does not work

Please please PLEASE tell me what the #$%^ this has to do with this thread.
FYI,
Fixed it by adding <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="5" android:targetSdkVersion="6" /> to the AndroidManifest.xml and building for Android version 1.6. If anyone has any ideas how I can incorporate this fix and also support Android 1.5 please let me know.
