What applications can be safely removed after leaked 2.2 is installed? - Droid Incredible General

I've removed a few applications that I don't want and for the most part the phone appears to be working fine; however, the sync icon in the notification pane is never going away.... this makes me think I removed something I shouldn't have:
I restored all of the Htc applications that I removed but I was wondering if there were a conclusive list of which apps are safe to remove, and wont cause the sync icon to be always on.

I think it would be good for someone to post a full list of the .apk names we can remove.

What apps are you trying to remove?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App

Anything I can without causing problems
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

I have removed:
city id
vz navigator
skype mobile
visual voicemail
my verizon
No issues thus far.

i think the syncing issue is from ether facebook or twitter. try logging out and removing all traces of your accounts before removing those apks.

Anybody figure out what to remove to squelch the automatic opening of VZW internet page and the prompt to download VZ software when connecting to computer in charge mode? That's annoying.

For those that aren't sure
VZW_MyVerizon.apk
VZW_Skype.apk
VzNav.apk
VVM.apk
CityID.apk

FYI, HtcLockScreen.apk and HtcLockScreen.odex can be removed as long as you have a 3rd party alarm program. the stock DeskClock's alarm cannot be dismissed by the vanilla lockscreen
Also, WifiRouter.apk and WifiRouter.odex remove that pesky Mobile 3G Hotspot (the paid Verizon one)
Most of the other stuff carries over from 2.1 safe-to-remove apps: http://bluraynetworks.com/android/

Pardon my n00bness - but how does one go about removing these things? I'd love to get rid of CityID, VZNavigator, Amazon MP3 store, 3G Mobile HotSpot (is there a free one I can replace it with?)
BTW - I have already successfully flashed FroYo on my Incredible
EDIT: Nevermind - reading is fundamental I used the sticky and got rid of those pesky apps

To be safe, I just disabled a bunch by simply renaming them to .apkb
Here are the commands for the ones I renamed & disabled:
/system/bin/mv teeter.apk teeter.apkb
/system/bin/mv com.htc.StockWidget.apk com.htc.StockWidget.apkb
/system/bin/mv Stock.apk Stock.apkb
/system/bin/mv HtcFootprints.apk HtcFootprints.apkb
/system/bin/mv HtcFootprintsWidget.apk HtcFootprintsWidget.apkb
/system/bin/mv com.htc.TwitterWidget.apk com.htc.TwitterWidget.apkb
/system/bin/mv HtcTwitter.apk HtcTwitter.apkb
/system/bin/mv com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apk com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apkb
/system/bin/mv FriendStream.apk FriendStream.apkb
/system/bin/mv CityID.apk CityID.apkb
/system/bin/mv amazonmp3.apk amazonmp3.apkb
/system/bin/mv com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apk com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apkb
/system/bin/mv com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apk com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apkb
/system/bin/mv Flickr.apk Flickr.apkb
/system/bin/mv HtcCarPanel.apk HtcCarPanel.apkb
/system/bin/mv HtcPhotoWidget.apk HtcPhotoWidget.apkb
/system/bin/mv NewsReader.apk NewsReader.apkb
/system/bin/mv VzNav.apk VzNav.apkb
/system/bin/mv VZW_MyVerizon.apk VZW_MyVerizon.apkb
/system/bin/mv VZW_Skype.apk.apk VZW_Skypeb.apkb
These should all be safe to disable or remove without hurting anything else. There are more you can remove (http://bluraynetworks.com/android), but removing them may lead to consequences never being the same and the cyber police being called.

[r800x]Removable System Apps

I am creating this thread for a list of which apps you can remove from the r800x's system. This thread is meant SPECIFICALLY for r800x which is why I am not posting a reply in the existing thread located here!
THESE APPS DO NOT HAVE TO BE REMOVED, I AM JUST LISTING WHICH ONES CAN BE REMOVED WITHOUT MESSING UP THE PHONE!!! (meaning FC's, etc.)
I recommend that you move these apps to your SD card instead of deleted them or renaming their extensions!
Stand-alone apps (Apps that do not require other apps to function properly):
AdobeFlashPlayer.apk - Adobe flash 10.3 (you may get it in the market)
Bluetooth.apk - Bluetooth app (REQUIRED FOR BLUETOOTH TO FUNCTION)
Browser.apk - Stock browser app (alternative browsers are available in the market)
BruceLee.apk - Bruce Lee game
Calculator.apk - Stock calculator app (alternative calculators are available in the market)
com.amazon.kindle.apk - Kindle reading app (you may get it in the market)
com.fusionone.android.sync.sonyericssonr800xbaclient.apk - Backup assistant app
com.skype.android.verizon.apk - Skype app (you may get it in the market)
comsony.playstation.ncua94900_1.apk - Crash bandicoot game
com.vznavigator.r800x.apk - Verizon navigator app (you may get it in the market)
com.vzw.hss.myverizon.apk - My verizon app (you may get it in the market) (CAUTION - REMOVING THIS APP WILL CAUSE IT TO REPEATLY FORCE CLOSE UNTIL YOU REBOOT THE PHONE)
com.vzw.vvm.androidclient.apk - Visual Voicemail app (you may get it in the market)
DigitalClockWidget.apk - Digital Clock Widget
Email.apk - Email app
GenieWidget.apk - News and weather app
Gmail.apk - Gmail app (you may get it in the market)
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk - Google Search Widget (you may get it in the market)
Launcher2.apk - Stock home launcher. (IMPORTANT - REMOVING THIS APP WILL CAUSE THE WHOLE PHONE TO BE UNABLE TO BOOT UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE LAUNCHER APP) (alternative launchers are available in the market)
LiveWallpapers.apk - The live wallpapers Galaxy, Grass, Nexus, Polar clock, and Water
Madden.apk - Madden NFL 11 game
Maps.apk - Google Maps (you may get it in the market)
Mms - Stock messaging app (IF THIS IS NOT INSTALLED, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEND OR RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES)
officesuite.apk - Office Suite app (you may get it in the market)
Protips.apk - Protips widget (the android with the chat bubble telling you how to use the launcher) (on a side note, it should be called tips, I see nothing "pro" about it XD)
PsclassicWallpaper.apk - Classic Ps live wallpaper
PsoriginalWallpaper.apk - original PS live wallpaper
SemcGallery3D.apk - Stock 3D gallery (alternative Galleries are on the market, I recommend QuickPic)
SetupWizard.apk - The setup app that runs on the first boot of android or after a factory reset
Soundrecorder.apk - Sound recorder app (Alternative sound recorders are available in the market)
starbattalion.apk - Star Battalion game
Talk.apk - Gmail chat app
Tetris.apk - Tetris game (Alternative Tetris games are available in the market)
VoiceDialer.apk - Voice dialer app
VoiceSearch.apk - Voice search app (you may get it in the market)
VpnServices.apk - virtual private network services app (requried for creating Vpn connections)
VZWSetupWizard.apk - Verizon's setup wizard that runs after the default setup wizard. Verizon's setup wizard lets you set up apps like the backup assistant app.
Youtube.apk - Youtube app (you may get it in the market)
Apps that require other apps to function properly:
Calendar.apk - Google Calendar (requires Calendarprovider.apk and GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk to function properly)
CalendarProvider - Part of Google Calendar (requires Calendar.apk and GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk to function properly)
DownloadProviderUi - Downloads app (shows only the stock browser's downloads, worthless if you have an alternative browser)
com.sonyericsson.androidapp.storefront.apk - The game app that is launched from the Xperia Play app. (Requires semcsuite.apk to function properly)
LatinIME.apk - Stock keyboard app (requires UserDictonaryProvider.apk to run properly) (Alternative keyboard apps are available in the market)
Street.apk - Street viewer app (launches from google maps, unusable without google maps)
UserDictonaryProvider.apk - The dictionary that is used by the stock keyboard app, not required by alternative keyboard apps (Required by latinIME.apk)
Unknown-use apps (they can still be removed without harmful effects):
com.gravitymobile.vzwinstaller.apk
com.innopath.activecare.apk
CrashSMS.apk
CustomizedApplicationInstaller.apk
CustomizedSettings.apk
googleFeedback.apk
GooglePartnerSetup.apk
IddAgen.apk
preinstalledservice.apk
semc-fumo.apk
SemcCrashMonitor.apk
After removing these apps, I HIGHLY recommend you install "Sd Maid" from the market to remove all data related to these apps!!!
After all the apps and data are removed, delete all the .dex files taht are located in /data/dalvik-cache, and then reboot your phone!
The reason for deleting these files is that they are files that are re-created by the system on boot for any apps you have installed, whether they are in the system or installed from the market. That means when you reboot after deleting these files, your phone will reboot slower then usual because it is created the dalvik cache from your existing apps. It will only do this once, so your phone will not reboot slow every time.
This is my first thread on XDA, so please click thanks if this helped you!
If you know any other apps that may be removed, or know what the unused apps do, please tell me!
Hey Sonic...big thanks for this...isn't it great that we're rooted now?

Great list, I cleared pretty much everything able, applied dalvik mod and im up to 342mb free storage. Thanks for this.
Dont Delete "preinstalledservice.apk"
This app is needed for Crash Bandicoot to still run and download game data. I tried a lot of different variables to find that without the preinstalledservice.apk None of the Playstation certified games would make it past "updating" screen.

Thanks for the list, didn't have the navigator problem My problem was deleting my avatar "preinstalledservice.apk" I keep him there to remind me of the day I lost him. Anyway Deleted all but the games, flash, browser, and all that was in red. little struggle with that verizon.hss or what-not didn't let me hit the power option onscreen. I have to say phone is running a lot faster, LOTS MORE RAM to enjoy on other things. any way thanks again for replying so fast
Encase any one does delete any thing without back up (LikeME) Mills00013 has all system files for R800x http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201725

[Q] [EC09] Debinged issues

so i installed the eco9 dibinged over the ec09 stock deodexed. all fine and dandy except if i try to play a vimeo video from a FB post or a tweet the browser force closes and when updating the service using *22899 soon as it is done the phone process force closes. I have tryed redownloading and installing the ec09 debinged and if i load the ec09 stock deodexed everything works fine. i just hate bing and all the bloat on there. any ideas what to try?

Pay for Root Explorer from the market. Then debloat and debing your phone manually. I can show you how if you buy Root Explorer.
Yea I have root explorer what do I need to do?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA
In Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app. In this folder you will see a list of all the pre-loaded apps which were installed from the ROM you flashed. To debing, simply find the bing.apk and delete it (or move it to your sdcard if you want a backup). You can perform this same action with all apps installed on your phone. At first, start small. Start with apps you can easily identify by the name or icon. Also, if an .apk file has a cooresponding .odex file, move/delete that as well. You may get constant force closes after removing an app if it is running at the time you removed it. Simply reboot your phone.
WARNING: Removing necessary system apps could cause serious problems. So, start small. If you have a question as to if you can remove a particular app or not, ask in this thread and I'll let you know.

Your son? Starting him off a little young, ain't ya? It's gonna depend on what you want it to do. If it won't be making calls, then dialer tab, dialer storage, and contacts can all go., no internet, the radio can go. So on and so forth. What you gonna give him the ability to do? Then we can tell ta.

Wouldn't using Titanium Backup to uninstall the apps accomplish the same thing as using Root Explorer? Plus no FC's!

I've never understood why people pay for Root Explorer. There's so many great free options to do the same tasks.

I like the ui better. But, to be honest, I've switched to rom toolbox. It does it all.

OK, I removed a boatload of bloatware using Root Explorer.
Still have a couple issues;
Even though I removed the .apk and corresponding .odex files, restarted phone, I still have these in apps, and all work when opened;
Facebook
IM
Verizon video
VCast tones
And, even though the Bing icon is out of apps, it still opens Bing Search with a long press on the search icon on phone.
Any thoughts on how to get rid of these?
I've went all thru Root explorer and can't find these files anywhere, but they're still on the phone.
Thanks

Syncmldm.apk -> Software Update (thanx to mkruseonline)
Wssyncmlnps.apk -> Samsung Sync Application (thanx to mkruseonline)
SysScope.apk - it's the package that checks whether the ROM is modified (thanx to metalboy94)
DataCreate.apk - seems to be some form of factory test app, not actually used (thanx to metalboy94)
remember always make a nandroid back up before experimenting with ur device.
i dont know functions of all the apps. just know that these are the files that may be claimed as JUNK.
some apps ( resembling almost same names ) are components of each other. one may not work without other.
app quarantine is a very good free app to freeze these things if ur just an average user ( dont delete from system/ app folder)..
if ur a new developer then this list is meant for u.. u can delete this apps from system/app folder before building roms.
and last but not the least :
i tested it myself. leaves ur device with only the core or necessary apps... but im not responsible for any damaget to ur device. if something goes wrong then restore from nandroid back up.
P.S : can some one recommend this to be pinned as it may help newbie developers in future and save the chunk of time.

I found with Package Disabler Pro do not use "Disable all Bloatware" I did and couldn't find my sd card listed
make sure you use manual and are sure what you are disabling.....or you'll disable some necessary system apps ....

I ended up double checking the stuff that wasn't so obvious. There are a few XDA posts on the S6 and S7 forum on which ones are safe to disable and what a lot of the obscure named ones actually do.
I've exported my package disabler pro list to xml here in case anyone want's it. Everything on the phone works perfect (I use nova launcher, google keyboard, hangouts messenger and google voice services so all the samsung equivalent packages are killed)
Copy all and paste into a txt file, save as an XML file, put on phone and import from package disabler pro.
BTW, if anyone notices anything in my list that should actually be turned back on, let me know.

Yes. I didn't want any of those but they are clearly labeled in the list of services so they'd be easy to uncheck to re-enable.
Basically, there were a lot of 3rd party apps from google or whoever that I am either used to already using or like using better than the samsung equivalent and I disabled those samsung services or apps. On the other hand, I've come to really enjoy using the samsung calendar, contacts, phone dialer and file explorer vs the 3rd party apps or google apps of those that I was using on my 6P so I didn't do a blanket disable of everything that came with the phone.

Awesome! Thank you. I did one early from the ATT forums and it did awesome. I'll have to go through and see what I want to keep. Like you I tend to keep some samsung apps. If anything I can disable them and re-enable them.

So ran it and my phone goes into constant vibrate mode lol. Any idea why?
Edit: has to do with Samsung pay. I'll play around with it.

So the phone is just vibrating non stopped or all notifications are vibrate only?
Are you using a 3rd party keyboard, messaging app, launcher and chrome browser? All of the samsung equivalents are disabled on mine so if you're missing something to take the place of the samsung app that's disabled for any of those things, the phone may not be liking that.
Also, are you on t-mobile?
If not, I'd remove all the t-mobile specific stuff from the xml file.
If all else fails, you can just re-enabled everything, reboot the phone, make sure it's operating normally and then start going through the list re-disabling various items and seeing if you stumble upon one that produces the strange vibrate thing.

That or open package disabler pro app and UNcheck the "Email" item in the list.
I have a Note 7 SM-930T (T-mobile). We do not have an unlocked bootloader but have acquired root. We use FlashFire to backup, restore and flash mods for our phone. Can I flash this mod via FlashFire with NO worry of any issues? Thanks a bunch guys.

Google App

I just received this device and I am disabling some preinstalled apps that I do not use. I noticed that I can't force stop or disable the Google App. When I go to setting, apps, then press Google App the Disable and Force Stop options are greyed out. How can I disable this app without root? I haven't installed any updates to any of my apps and Google App is causing huge battery drain.
Hrrm, there might be an ADB command that could help. I think I know the app you're talking about, but there's a lot of "Google Apps" yanno?
Anyhow, I'll assume you're talking about the one that actually houses Google Now and the while search thingy, which is com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
Code:
adb shell pm hide com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
This doesn't remove not disable it entirely persay, but it should disable it sufficiently.
That's the best you can do without root afaik
