Editing Weather Database and Sync Time - HTC Aria General

In the Windows Mobile world, you could edit the database to add cities and with a few registry changes, have the weather update more frequently or less frequently depending upon your preference.
I've looked at the settings.db and it looks like that is where you might be able to hard code a change in the update time, but am unclear on which database or even where to find the database containing the locations.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

You should be able to change the update times in accounts & sync, right?
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

If you use the stock inputs, yes. The minimum is 1 hour. The cities database is not comprehensive enough. The former Windows Mobile databases could be edited quite easily with sqliteadmin.

I would also like to know how to add cities. The current list has nothing that I had in my Fuze.
Thanks.

New App!!! Sync web iCalendar to pocket Outlook

After I couldn't find an app to sync iCalendars with pocket outlook, I decided to make my own. Note: it IS buggy and not complete (eg ALPHA). Use at your own risk but it works fine on my PPC-6700 using a google calendar.
It supports syncing normal events as well as all day and weekly recurring events (eg every week on m,w,f) I designed it so that it can run on a timer in the background and update whenever or you can trigger it yourself. I'm not a pro developer so its not the best in the world but it works for me!
Also, it doesn't delete anything from your phone, only adds new items or updates existing ones (keys off of the title of the appointment).
I plan on posting it up on a sourceforge site soon and making the code public.
Attached is a screenshot of the interface. Yes, very simple.
Instructions: To install, download the attached cab, copy the cab to your device and browse to it and tap it to install.
Then you can configure it with the url (I recomend copy and paste from a text message or something if the url is long) select if you want it to auto update or not and if so, how often. Make sure you save the settings so they are stored for the next running.
Very good idea !
I was just thinking how I could sync Google calendar with Pocket Outlook
A question before I try : which url do you enter ?
When I browse Google calendar on my PC I get : http://www.google.com/calendar/render
Is that it ?
I probably should've mentioned that. For google calendar, go to settings, calendars, then click the calendar you want to import, and under private address click ical. Then copy and paste the url it gives to a text message and send it to the device so you can copy and paste it into the app (thats what I did).
Ok thanks.
I'll test your app tomorrow morning
This is a great app. Do you think you can make an update on google side, ie pocket pc overwrite the google calendar. It doesn't need to be a full sync at the beginning, but this would be a great addition
At least being able to sync appoints from the device to the google calendar would be great, no need to necessarily wipe them. That is, a bi-directional sync, with no delete. If an appointment needs to be deleted, it would just need to be deleted from both locations.
Generally sync apps have the following types of options:
Local -> Remote (No delete)
Local -> Remote (Delete remote entries that are not present locally)
Remote -> Local (No delete)
Remote -> Local (Delete local entries that are not present remotely)
Remote -> Local / Local -> Remote (Do not delete any entries)

Any news on this?
Posting code to sourceforge
Hi,
Could you please post your code to sourceforge. This way we could help you develop this piece of software. Would be appreciated.
Regards,
Gerard
Any word on this? I'm anxious to see/start working on it.
I was just looking for something like this! I will try it when I get home from work. Hope to see continued development.
This app is great and exactly what I was looking for. I have been using it for a couple weeks now.
One thing, I noticed that it only pulls in the first 50+ characters of the appointment's description. Is there a way we can get the whole description?
Is there any update on the status of this project? Is going to be put on Sourceforge? I would gladly contribute to working on it.
Thanks
Josh
cant run it on mine

I had the same problem. I got the .net compact framework from below:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6B-356B-4A2C-857C-E62F50AE9A55&displaylang=en
I wonder if the developer of this app is still around.
Chanced my arm and tried it with WM6 on a TyTn-II ... started and ran OK, but then got errors regarding file layout / format.
Not sure if these are because I am on WM6 and the app is written for WM5, or if the ics file ( from Google Calendar ) is in a format the app doesn't like. I think more likely the former, as the post seems to indicate it was written with GCal in mind.
So, has anyone else had any luck with this in WM6, or even know of something similar. Don't need two way sync with device, just a way to dump my GCal onto my handheld.
Cheers,
nwpsys
No matter, oggsync seems to work for me, as I have tinkered with my GCal calendars a bit to have all my key stuff in one, so I can use the freeware version of oggsync

Me too- Win mobile 6.1 on a Tilt, no good. Call method errors.
I just tried it on my HP iPaq 614C (wm6), and it worked great. Thanks!

Take a look at OggSync http://oggsync.com/

Tried it, got errors. I also would really like to see this come alive again, don't want to use Google Cal in any way. Using Rainlendar desktop cal on my 2 pc's with a common ics file on the ftp server. Works perfectly, but would also like to keep my phone up to date automaticly/semi automaticly.

SyncMyCal & Google Calendar

I've been trying for months to reliably sync my Wizard to Google's Calendar, and I must have tried every app out there for the purpose. Today I stumbled on SyncMyCal, and I think I've found a winner.
I did have trouble with an annually recurring event, but this seems to be an issue with how Outlook formats things. At least SyncMyCal gave a useful error message, and I was able to also resolve the problem. This issue may have also been the cause of some problems I had with other applications, but none of them gave enough info to find the root cause.
The free version is limited to only three days forward and back, and doesn't autosync, but that's fair. If you want more, there is a paid version.
I don't have any connection with these guys, I just posted this to save others some of the wasted time I invested looking for a solution.
***** UPDATE: Having used this program for six weeks, I'm withdrawing my endorsement, and have deleted it from my Wizard. Although it is somewhat better than others, it is still to flaky to be reliable, deleting some events, duplicating others, and changing the times on still others.
Back to searching
I've been using GooSync for a couple of months. I don't update my events on Google--just on the PPC then sync. It was spotty with recurring events, but has gotten better lately. I also use the contacts sync one way as well. Either I or Goosync has duplicated all the entries once. There was also one time where ALL the contacts and calendar entries were wiped out! I never figured out who was at fault then. I've been using various sync software for a decade and there never seems to be a solution that works right and then keeps on working right.
I think I paid around 20 bucks for a years service. I have to say, they are getting better rapidly. I would try SyncMyCal, but the contacts sync is REALLY what I want....
What is killing my Wing is the size of the pim.vol file, 4.72 mb's and growing. I have deleted all the voice tags and only have ~10 contact photos (resized for the web with CS3, ~7-11kb each.) I pisses me off that I can't move that file to a storage card. What the hell is the use a PPC that limits how many peeps you know or do business with. That makes voice commands and photo contacts useless! I know, I know-- I should get a Tilt-- but that's just a temporary solution. Anyone know of a contacts program that stores it's data on a card?

Not Helpful
Several major problems with the last post. First, the URL listed for sync info is garbled.
Second, it only works if you have a Widoze desktop. I'm running Linux.
Finally, using the mobile web interface doesn't allow you to edit or delete events, so it's of very limited use.

URL link fixed - thanks for pointing this out. Note the Bboard truncates the display but now the link works. If not, try a search:

Agree but none of the posts mention Linux. In fact the first post mentions "issue with how Outlook formats things"

The mobile web interface does allow you to ADD events and has a bandwith friendly view of the next few appointments. Nobody in xda-developers forum had mentioned either mobile.google.com/calendar or indeed the new Google Calendar Sync before me.

I don't think these are "major" problems or warrant a rating of "Not Helpful". I shared the pain of the first two posters who "must have tried every app out there" that "duplicated" or "wiped out!" all the entries . Like them, I "just posted this to save others some of the wasted time I invested looking for a solution."

2 outstanding tweaks i cant get on my hd2 (contacts/email pics)

Hi,
i love my hd2 and have worked thought the camera and generic tweaks here. So glad to be away from my omnia and back with a htc and the knowledge here.
I have 2 remaining outstanding tweaks that i havent been able to find decent solutions to by searching here. The first is setting the emails to always show web pictures, i find it frustrating to have to select web pictures eachtime i view an email and as i am on an unlimited data tarriff i dont mind the data. How do i get this to work?
The second is sorting all my contacts by first name then second name. I am not sure if using googlemail as my exchange server, the HTC software or the microsoft sync is changing this but i am pretty tired of going through every day sorting my contacts correctly. Is there a setting somewhere once and for all to force contacts first name and then second name?
As an aside i never sync my phone via usb as i dont use outlook/windows and linux is happy enough pulling everything from googlemail.
Thanks;
Andy
I'll only answer for what I Know.
QUOTE: I am pretty tired of going through every day sorting my contacts correctly. Is there a setting somewhere once and for all to force contacts first name and then second name?
ANSWER: You will enjoy this tiny freeware software that does just that: almost instantly order your contacts by first name (or middle name or last name). Look here for Contact Changer. You run it once and 1 second after, all your contacts are sorted. The downside is that it doesn't change standard setting of the program, which means that the default order will still be LAST NAME first. But since the application is free and quick...
It sounds like your sync source is taking precedence over the phone. If you edit something on the phone and it gets replaced by the backup then that's wrong.
You need to check your server, not the phone.
I have the exact same problem. I don't use data connection (too expensive). There MUST be a way to sort contacts by there first name.... please
Helle
Hi HelleM,
If you go to the contact you want to change, select edit contact. scroll down to the bottom and select more and you can change it with the file as field.
If you can't download the program then you will have to do this with all of your contacts.
Or you could go to marketplace and download Contact Changer by Øystein Kalvø Stephansen. This app allows you to change the sorting in all the contacts. It's very cheap also.
I got it and it works fine. Don't get why HTC did not put that as a choise?

Aaahhh so many basic things that HTC should heve put as a choise...
So has anyone worked out how i can get outlook email to auto download the pictures for me in emails? It seems a pointless click each time i open an email!
d'oh wrong thread
yeah the email pics issue drives me nuts. it should be a choice in settings somewhere not ask every time. never seen a solution anywhere either. surprising for something that everybody seems to hate and its such a simple little thing, you wold think it'd of been fixed long ago right?

[Q] Use SQLite DB made on PC?

Hi! I have two database files I need to make and add to the .apk for quick access. The data will be completely static--I will only read from the database. How would I make this database on my PC, then read from it at runtime?
The SQLite database on Android will be created when you first want to access it. This means you can't simply add the databases to the apk. You should make a web service which helps your app insert the data to the newly created database, or you can hard-code it.
After a little more searching, I found a way! http://www.reigndesign.com/blog/using-your-own-sqlite-database-in-android-applications/
I'll give it a shot later today; it seems like it'll work.

[Q] Newbie developing: How to host/share an SQLite Database online?

Hi!
I'm rather newbie developing for Android, and I'm kind of lost...but here goes what I'd like to do:
I'd like my app to have a local database that is updated from online, either downloading a new file each time versions don't match (which I find hard), or somehow to download/upload the latest insertions to an online file.
I'd like it to work somehow offline allowing to sync anytime that there's connection, so I'd like a local DB where the query is made, but I also want it to be synced as much as I can. Users should also be able to add new rows to the table, that could be done at any time the user decides to sync.
So...How can I implement an online database? And also, as a sidenote...Where could I host my DB? Is there any free hosting I could rely on? In my opinion it should be a rather small DB...
Thank you!
