Will 2.2 allow for wakeup via optical button? - Droid Incredible General

When HTC/Verizon finally release the 2.2 OTA update for stock Incredibles, does anyone think it will include the feature to wake up the phone from the optical button, rather than ONLY the power button? Is this a feature currently found on Cyanogenmod 6 for the Incredible now?
Also, if I go back to rooting my Incredible, and I decide to return to stock to receive the OTA update if and when it finally is released, what's the best way to backup and restore my current config?
I've already done this a few times and I've had to start over each and every time, I'd rather restore what I have - I use Appbrain so restoring my apps I'm sure wouldn't be hard, but my other settings, etc.
Thanks everyone

That's awesome - worked great!

I've been pretty successful getting restored with My Backup Pro since my last phone. If you do try it out, don't backup/restore your contacts if you sync because Google will try to fight it out and you'll wind up with duplicates.

Can't we fix the MR market issues?

I've wiped my phone and re-run the MR update. All my apps were there but later in the day...boom, gone.
I see that a custom ROM has temporarily fixed the issue
- "1.2c:fixed issue with protected apps not showing up in market reverted displayed version # in phone settings (sprint update is still there though)"
My questions is can't we patch our systems until Google/HTC/Sprint figure this out? Sounds like such a simple fix...
Um, "we" did, which is to say that other people on the forum did it for us. Both current ROMs fix the Market issue.

Yes, but they haven't fixed the bluetooth audio streaming issue which is big for me (as of yesterday.) I'd like to keep things just as they are and patch up the market problem.
It seems to be a problem with the build.prop and build.prop.nopassword file from the Mr update. You could edit the file with the old info from a build.prop files from before the update. Or push a build.prop files to your phone from a stock hero or from the unofficial 1.2 . It couldn't hurt to try. Make sure you have a backup.

Fresh claims that has been fixed.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to try Fresh's ROM again.
Just installed Fresh's .06 rom.
Still no go for the market. =(
I installed Fresh's 0.6 over my 1.56 stock install. No wipe. It took about 2hrs but the market snapped back into shape. I also did a reboot around that 2hr mark.
Dunno what triggered it but the moral of the story is I dont think you need to wipe.
I have the factory ROM on my device (its only been rooted) and it seems my paid apps have returned to the my downloads section of the market... hope it keeps
I think at least some of the missing apps are now back. I had MoDaCo ROM and downloaded a new app (free - Silent Time). The next day I un rooted, restored my Nandroid backup, got the MR update and then rooted the Sprint ROM, went to grab that app which I lost when I restored my Nandroid backup and it was gone, until tonight. It was a free app. The app was Silent Time, which before today my search only hit one app which wasn't Silent Time. Now that same search hits 3 apps and includes Silent Time.

I get 11 hits for "silent time" heh. But the first one is silent time (free). Confirmed.

My bad, my search wasn't for "silent time" but "quiet time" which didn't give me the app until tonight. I get the same 11 hits now like you when searching for "silent time".

Official T-Mobile USA HD2 ROM Upgrade! - [2.13.531.1]

Here are a few links with information (including the HTC website download mirror) regarding the official update from T-Mobile USA, courteously provided by: Pocket Now!
Upgrade Announcement!
ROM Information!
I will most likely be applying this update within the next few days. Although, I'm a little hesitant just because I figure that certain, "Manila modifications" won't operate properly on this upgraded T-Mobile USA version... NOT YET ANYWAY!
Thanks,
Downloading
Install new ROM and restore from Sprite
I plan to install the new official ROM and then do a full restore from a Sprite backup that I will have done while on the old ROM.
Will that work
Do I need to do anything different with Sprite or is it just a normal restore
Thanks for any advice.
I have downloaded this version and installed it...i think its slow and it lags. so i got rid of it and i flashed back old one.

I wouldn't advise that...
Just go ahead and perform the usual steps of "starting fresh."
It's not worth risking any system "tainting" that could occur in the process of another system recovery from a different ROM image.
Besides, if you don't think the update is worth performing in the first place, stick with your current setup.

Really?
Most everyone that has provided a testimony for "TmoNews" has suggested that only improvements are noticed... nothing negative to report.
I would suggest that you CLEAR/CLEAN the RAM after the installation. Use a program such as Memory Maid to run a few system maintenance diagnostics.
Otherwise, give this "new" ROM time to "settle" on your device. 24-hour tests are usually the best idea.
I have installed the new ROM. Things are very similar to way they were before. Didn't feel HD2 getting faster or slower. However, I have a strange problem now: Right now I don't have a data plan so I'm using my WiFi connection to get to the internet. One of the first apps I installed after flashing the new ROM is Omarket. Few hours ago, i.e. before flashing the ROM, Omarket was working fine but now it cannot connect to internet! Opera mobile works fine though (I downloaded Omarket with it!). There are other strange things going on as well: I have an MS exchange account. I can sync my emails over WiFi but contacts do not get synced! It seems that somehow some programs can use WiFi and some others cannot. Couldn't figure out what's going on yet...
Any changelog ?

UPDATE CHANGELOG! (Personal Analysis)
Here are a few changes that I've noticed since upgrading to this ROM yesterday evening:
The HTC Sense menus no longer have the "snap back" feature.
The overall screen sensitivity has been increased.
HTC Peep, the standard Twitter client appears to be completely removed.
The lock screen no longer "stutters" (on occasion) during the "slide to unlock."
Upgraded radio, including the version number.
Upgraded ROM, including the build number.
"T-Mobile Help," the micro-forums application has been included.
"My Account" has been included, with a more "feature-rich" experience.
"Swype" now has HAPTIC FEEDBACK, whereas my version of Swype did NOT prior to this update.

I saw on the Freeware Pocket PC twitter that they where having problems with the OMarket, Maybe this is what you where experiencing. Did the regular market work?
Haptic feedback on Swype.... interesting.
How well does Swype work for holding down a key to get the alternate symbol (like numbers & punctuation). On mine you can hold if down for days and never get the popup - I had to install version 2 to make it work.
BTW - I think I like the layout for version 2's symbols better, especially the numbers, but might be interesting to try out this Rom after enough people give feedback on it.
Missing Twitter tab would be... odd.
Why is this release coming from a HTC web site rather than T-Mo? I'm thinking of upgrading but dread going back through all the settings.

This problem appears to have been fixed in the new ROM.
One thing I noticed is that the new T-Mobile Help app hooks into the dialer and hijacks attempts to dial 611. Dialing 611 brings up the help app and then eventually the phone may dial 611 itself later.
The whole effect is... bizarre and unwelcome.
I cant get the My account or Help application to work. When I click the icon it shows me the initial screen and says "the my account application will be downloaded shortly" and just sits there. Did I somehow mis-flash the rom? I can't imagine this is the case.

Because the phone was created and manufactured by HTC. Just like Apple releases the updates for its iPhone; not AT&T.

my account application works fine on my hd2. overall, the updated rom seems to run a lot smoother. however, i still get the lag in sms but the freezing issues (to the point where i had to take out the battery once or every other day during sms) seem to be gone.

[Q] Zips Creamed Glacier v4.01

Hello All,
Just wanted to say that the new update is awesome. I was looking through the settings and I can seem to find option to change the wake button. Is there an option to change the wake button?
Love the new update Zip!
Eric
Don't flame him guys. He doesn't have enough posts to put this in Zips thread.
Glad you like the ROM, and welcome to the forum.
I'm about an hour out from being able to install it so I can't answer your question. I can, however, tell you that if you are wanting trackpad wake its not happening on ICS yet.
only option i saw is to set volume buttons to wake phone
Gmail Issue
I'm a newbie as well, and know this question probably fits better in the dev section, but don't have enough posts to put it there. I have been lurking on here for a while, learned a ton. I've been using Zip's 3.11 ROM for a while, no problems and loved it! I flashed the new 4.01 ROM and ever since have been having trouble with Gmail syncing. It seems my phone is not receiving push notifications. The only way I get any emails is if I manually press the sync button in the gmail app. Wondering if anyone else has this problem or know of anything I could try to fix it.
Thanks!

Have no problem with mine, automatically sync and notify me when I get new email. Maybe try reinstall Gmail again and clear data? Or better yet reflash the whole rom, fullwipe and everything before hand.
@op
The only wake button that u can use now is volume, home button and power button. Zips mentioned touchtap wake is coming, so just wait for it

Don't do this. Just remove your google account and add it again.
Also make sure gmail settings are default or set to your likings or w/e.

I already had wiped/reflashed and then flashed the gapps zip. That seems to fix the problem. I'm wondering if it had something to do with a system data file that I restored using Titanium Backup. I am not restoring any old system files this time.

another newbie question
...since I can't post in the dev forum either.
I was previously using Virtuous Affinity with Sense 3.5. I was using the default Messages app there and had a large store of messages. I don't delete often for some personal reasons. I tried to use Titanium backup to restore my messages storage which made the phone process die over and over on reboot.
I know if I had to get them, the raw data storage is in SQLite. I'm just wondering if there's a more reasonable way to get them imported into ICS (Zips CG)?
@playdrums Well here goes something as a newbie trying to help.
One possibility to restore your messages that I can think of would be to restore your previous rom and then download SMS Backup+ back up your messages with that, and then restore/reflash Zips CG and restore the messages with the same app which is included if you installed it with aroma. This will also leave a copy of your texts on your gmail account.

I did. Sorry, should have mentioned that as well. I've decided to restore back to 3.11 and wait to see how things shape up with the next update. Currently on the job hunt and need my phone more stable than the 4.01+patch was giving me (Gmail not syncing and frequent reboots/locking up). Loving the work done on it so far though!
PS. I'm trying my best not to fit in to the typical noob stereotype haha.

Read a few comments above. Google Voice performs better under Sense ROMs. Zips Creamed Glacier is an awesome ROM, but I honestly just flashed back over to MIUI today for more stability.
EDIT: I forgot to include my point. If you want to use a more reliable version of Google Voice, you're better off staying away from ICS ROMs for now.

Coming From Nexus 4, Having Trouble Adjusting To LG G2 Stock D803. Advice please!

Coming from a Nexus 4, I'm finding it very hard to adjust to the G2. It seems to have too many unnecessary bells and whistles and it is missing the standard onscreen buttons.
1. For example, my Nexus 4 has three onscreen buttons: the back arrow, home, and tile (which lists all open apps). The G2 also has three onscreen buttons, but the third button is "Settings" instead of tile. How the hell do I multitask now? Even weirder is that when I look of photos other people have posted of their G2, they have FOUR onscreen buttons. Where did mine go?
2. Google Account restore doesn't seem to work on the G2. With the Nexus 4, all I did was enter my password and it automatically downloaded all my apps that I've ever used. Am I doing something wrong or will I have to install the apps one by one on the G2?
3. The swipe-up for Google Now is driving me crazy. With the Nexus 4 you could simple swipe up with a flick of your thumb. With the G2, you have swipe up exactly half an inch- any more or any less, and Google Now won't open. Am I doing something wrong?
4. Is there a ROM that will give me a Nexus-like experience that works without bugs? I'm almost ready to sell my G2 and go back to my Nexus 4.

you gotta be joking...
1) if you took few minutes to explore your phone. even on a stock 4.2.2 from bell d803 has a menu under display called front button settings. it enables you to customize. this is jsut stock, there are many tools such as gravity box that lets you customize
2)I noticed too but it really isn't an issue with titanium backup or whatever else is out there. i haven't heard anyone else mention this and was curious as well, its same for kitkat 4.4 on g2.
3)this changed in kitkat 4.4 its lot smoother , the whole g2 experience is flawless on 4.4. look into it. houston has a 4.4 kitkat paranoid android rom out
4) see number 3
5) im fairly noob to android but all these are easy to resolve if you research a little.

Thanks for your input.
1. I found the front button settings but they did not give the option for the Tile button (multitasking).
2. My Nexus 4 is unrooted so I don't have Titanium Backup. And even if I wanted to root, a root requires that I wipe, which defeats the whole purpose of being able to backup my apps and data!
3. Does everything in Kitkat work on the 4.4 PA version? Like the new dialer? I'm just concerned that if I need to update the PA, I'd have to wipe each time? I have such a huge amount of music and files, that wiping and reflashing becomes very time consuming!
Root doesn't require wiping data. Unlocking a bootloader does.
I'm not sure why all your apps didn't automagically upload. I'd check your accounts for sync. Then I'd simple delete your account if that didn't work and then reboot the phone and add it back.

the issue #1 at current state will still be an issue as there doesn't seem to be a way to change the 3 navbars on 4.4
3) yes, do you mean by cleaned up version of dialer ? honestly you really should root your device and get the 4.4 pa. you're missing out on so much and you dont have to wipe SD. Plus it's easy to backup files to your pc if anything. I made a mistake of soft bricking my device by wiping too much and lost all my backups but it's still worth starting from bare scratch.

Yes- but don't you have to unlock the bootloader in order to root? If so, a wipe is needed.
I've done a factory reset twice, and both times it did not restore my apps. Were your apps restored when you signed in? I'm on the D803.

the issue #1 at current state will still be an issue as there doesn't seem to be a way to change the 3 navbars on 4.4
3) yes, do you mean by cleaned up version of dialer ? honestly you really should root your device and get the 4.4 pa. you're missing out on so much and you dont have to wipe SD. Plus it's easy to backup files to your pc if anything. I made a mistake of soft bricking my device by wiping too much and lost all my backups but it's still worth starting from bare scratch.

1. Are you saying that on 4.4, the third onscreen button is still "settings" instead of "tile/multitask"? I thought I saw the tile button on one of the demo photos...
3. Yes I mean the new 4.4 dialer that I'm getting on my Nexus 4. It's amazing- and I'd want the same on the G2. On my Nexus 4 dialer, I start typing in the name of a nearby restaurant and it pulls up the phone number in an instant!
4. So are you saying that whenever I update 4.4 PA (which will be very often), I won't have to wipe each time and lose all my data? 4.4 is still in alpha state, so you can be sure that there are going to be numerous and frequent updates.
5. Do you know if anyone has photos or a video tour of 4.4 PA on the G2?

yeah the third button is recent. and i don't know about anyone else but that was the selling point for me to switch. on my belld803 whenever i pressed recent on any 4.2.2 rom, it was laggy and choppy. now its smooth. Just backup your launcher and use titanium backup, it doesn't even take time to replace these things.

[Q] I want Verizon Backup Assistant Plus GONE!

Hey guys, I just got a new Note 3 and am having and issue.
I get bloat ware will be an issue unless I root but forcing me to use this Verizon Backup Assistant is too much! Is there anyway to get rid of it? I don't even see it listed as an app yet it's always listed under "Accounts" leading me to believe it's not just there but running and synchronizing as well.
I did a search last night and found many posts of people annoyed with this and some solutions but none seem to work anymore, maybe because those solutions were old? I want as far as to go into My Verizon website and delete all my contacts then reset/wipe my phone and during the Wizard unchecked to backup contacts; yet even all that didn't work. "Backup Assistant Plus" still there under services .... Please help.

It is one of the few apps that you cannot 'turn off' through the application manager in settings. Surely there must be a way to disable it without root.

You won't be able to remove it without root. It's one of the many advantages of having a rooted device, you can remove any of the bloat that you want.

Thank you very much for your speedy response. Is there still no way to root if your N3 is on 4.4.2?

There currently is no root method for 4.4.2 unless a pre-rooted version. If you've taken the OTA you're stuck for now as there is no way to go back to previous builds to gain root access. I never download and install an OTA, there is too much of a risk where you may never have a rooted device again.
I am glad I have thus far held off on the OTA, although I am lucky it's not bugging me like it sounds like it bugs some people, it hasn't even tried to download it yet. Rooting is becoming more and more temping.

Mine downloaded it the first time it appeared, then started asking me twice a day about 3 weeks ago. I held off for 2 weeks and about a week ago it popped up and asked me at 5:53am. In my half-asleep state, I somehow managed to tell it to go ahead and do it. Damnit.
