TMO HTC HD2, unlocked to ATT, working kinda, several quirks, freezes, goes to NaviPanel by itself, strange lockup icon, etc.
Under the settings screen it says (see pics, too):
OS 5.2.21904 (21904.5.0.93)
Manila 2.5.2013 UDT v1
ROM "UDT Black Series DsE v10 WWE"
ROM Date 20-05-2010
Radio 2.08.50.08_2
Can't find anything in this forum, did the searches.
I might have a phone from "the bad batch".
I believe a new ROM might help, but read that you can't install the latest "stock" ROM unless you have 2.10.??? installed.
Whadamygonnado??
That rom doesn't look stock. Aren't stock roms ususally 39.4543.453.322 or something like that and custom roms like " Kumarv5-b or EnergyRom" BTW I was having a couple issues with my HD2 and found the energy rom fixed em all. One was File explorer extender would freeze my hd2 if I tried to close under task manager. Weather wouldn't update for my location, but it would everywhere else on the planet. etc...... I used stock rom, Kumars, and then energy. Energy seemed to fix everything and be the most stable and complete so far. Only had it on a week so I'm still testing. I made it 15 days without a reboot with Kumar so I'm expecting good things from energy. I'm on day 8 now.
Hard to know what's going on but I was really dissatisfied with the HD2 until I put a custom ROM on it. Tried a couple but for me the OZROM did the trick. Nothing fancy just a good solid piece of work, you can find the TM compatible version on the HD2 (only) forum.
My suggestion would be is to try installing either Energy or Core Cell Series ROMs...they both work very well.
You can't go wrong with either one.
Good Luck!
THANKS, guys!!! Think I'll try Energy, see if it works.

This is not a "what is the best ROM" thread
But what ROM are you using and why?
________________
Im using Dutty HG V1.1, 5.2.23544 ROM.
I started with Dutty's ROM when i had the TD2 (Topaz) and has continued with his ROM's when i got the Leo, mainly because i find it stable a clean.
Well stock 1.66 ROM.
Why: well i like the clean Sense look HTC made I have done lots of tweaks and some mods to it. But its 95% stock. Plus i run our HD2 support at work, so it helps me remembering where stuff is in the stock ROM. Untill i get my 2nd HD2 for work related stuff. Then i might install a custom ROM.
Others who will share their reasons for choosing the ROM they are using?
Stock 1.43 O2 UK
Mainly because I'm too much of a wuss to flash a custom ROM.
And O2 UK hasn't released a newer ROM yet.
Although to be honest, theres nothing more than a niggle in the messaging (started after installing a hotfix) that isn't working, and I'm an avid believer of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" methods.
ROM: CleanEx v1.03
Why? It's a stripped down ROM with performance mods and it's lightning fast, based on WinMo 6.5 so looks stock - definitely worth a look IMO (see my sig)

Same here, and HIGHLY annoying from O2...waiting patiently...
I use stock as I just prefer the stock design etc, other roms seem to have stuff which I personally don't like.
I tweak it to suit my needs, but thats about it.
Stock 166 rom with cookies mods etc why coz i bricked two omnias flashing so now am too scared to brick my lovely phone
Stock 1.66 WWE, too scared to flash!! (although i did do the official upgrade from 1.48!)
SONE rom v1.36 because it is lightning fast, and has most of the apps removed, making it small, (thus freeing up extra storage space) and it is all but bug free (no sleep of death, finally!) oh, and it has cookies built in.
Artemis 5.0 with some visual tweaks (mainly elegance 3 & full landscape)
ROM: 2.10.531.7 Artemis 5.0 NLD
Radio: 2.07.50.27_2
Because for me Artemis roms have always worked great, and its like 'better stronger faster' at each new version, its a great sturdy fast rom, never had problems with installing or using any Artemis.
I use PIMBackup to copy over my contacts and messages between roms btw
L26V2.0 ultimate power. with maxmanila
why? full,fast and stable
I prefer a complete rom with most programs in it.
Stock 1.66 ROM for now... I had a HD and flashed it every couple of weeks, but I'm going to see how long stock can last me until I get bored and tired... Then I'll try out Miri, Dutty, and Laurentus in a month or so, plus any others that take my fancy.
+1 for Cookie's Mod and HD Wall for full-screen wallpaper.
Definitive Artemis v. 5.5. I have tried many different Roms and Artemis is the fastest and most stable.
artemis because:
- performance is always excellent (speed, stability, battery drain);
- it is very close to stock;
- it uses latest windows and manila builds (for leo only);
- it doesn't have compatibility issues with my 3rd party software;
- last but not least, i like sternas' attitude in pursuing his own philosophy and towards his "followers"
currently using the best and latest 5.5
cheers
Axlor V7 wm6.5

My first custom rom on HD2 and its great, close to stock with some great apps and lovely Dinik icons! I have tweaked it and is running exactly how i want it!
L26V2.0 ultimate power.
why? full, fast and stable.
I'm using the ROM in my signature, because its the first one i flashed to and narly bricked my phone in the process not doing it properly getting to excited lol, so im sticking with this for a while lol
And now? What ROM are you using yet and why? Why did you switch to another ROM, just for fun or booring?
EnergyROM's 23549 Cookie build, latest release (March 17th).
I tried Artemis for a while, liked it, there was nothing wrong with it per se, just that EnergyROM was better, mostly because HTC Messaging is disabled by default, the Outlook that's included supports MMS, Swype is included, the way he does the UI just looks fantastic, Opera 10 included is amazing, and -- above all -- I love the way NRG does the Start Menu.
Stock 1.43 T-Mobile UK - with more than a dozen great cabs. Don't want to touch the registry, just in case the phone has to go back for insurance purposes and also because the ROM is pretty fast and excellent, speed-wise. Will wait for T-Mobile update and if it's a good one will get it. Otherwise l'll stay where l am at the moment because there's nothing wrong with my ROM ;-D
i switched out my iphone 3g with an HD2 phone, and so far i like the phone itself. except one thing irritates the crap out of me and makes me just about want a different phone. when texting, or doing ANYTHING on the phone for that matter, and i get an incoming text message, the phone completely freezes up for almost up to 10 seconds. every single time. this is quite irritating and i've searched and searched and searched for fixes to this problem. is there anything out there to remedy this problem? or am i going to be plagued with it for an unset amount of time?
Hi guy!
I remember that i have this "lag" in official ROM with 1.66 base, but now in 2.10 ROM the contact was update and it's really faster!
Wich rom are you using?
thank you for the quick reply. my version is 2.13.531.1
here's the full info of my phone
OS - 5.2.21892
manila - 2.5.20121412.2
rom - 2.13.531.1
radio - 2.10.50.26
protocol - 15.39.50.07U
That's really strange! Because since 2.10 i think that the lag was remove!
Then if you can (and want) you can flash your ROM with a cooked ROM!
(You're on TMO official ROM no?)
If you need help to chose a ROM i can help you!
what effects/benefits would flashing with a cooked rom do? i'm new to this type of format
and yes i am. i've owned the phone for only a week or two.
ah nevermind, i looked it up. they're basically custom roms, yes? so i guess the task would be to find the right rom
Custom ROM included lastest driver and update. Many tweaks or mod are cook in so it's works better than a basic cab!
The good Cook ROM offers you better memory beacause deleted some useless files, so fatser and stable for somes ROM. The HD2 was my first WM Phone (iPhone 3Gs before) i was afraid to use a cooked rom and now i'm addicted!
Only advantage so in Cook ROM (if it's a good ROM)

Personnaly i'm using
Clean EX ROM and Hyper ROM it's a 6.5.x roms but clean EX do 6.5 roms (like officiel)
6.5.x are more finger friendly

All cook rom are good, but i select for you the most popular and after you will be a "pro" you can chose yourself !
awesome! thanks for the help i'll look through those and try one (or some) out. much appreciated!
ive been having same problem lately when texting. but all this ROM stuff kind of scares me a lil i dont really know what im doin, any advice on installing that stuff?
ok so i've tried to flash a rom about 4 times. couple times with chucky, and once with the ManiLess rom and everytime i get stuck. my phone goes through the 4 color screen, then HTC shows up on my phone with the progress bar (progress bar also shows up on my PC), but after a time, it stops responding and i must take my battery out and turn it back on to recover it. the RUU and the .nbh files are the only two files in the directory. i even tried using a different RUU than the one that came with the cooked ROM, but still does not work.
what could i be missing? i think i'm going to try one more time with a different ROM and see what happens

so far in my experience it's pretty straight forward. you have a single .nbh file which is the rom, then an RUU application that should be in the same folder that launches a wizard and you just make sure your phone is plugged into the PC and synced and it does it all for you. but just so far for me it gets stuck.
here's a video that shows a guy doing it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vh7GAx_lZE&feature=player_embedded
clicks accept twice, then it automatically does it. mine just gets stuck at the HTC screen on the phone
Hum wich rom have you choose?
-So first you HSPL your phone (but you already do that so... go next step)
-second you need to task 29 your phone (clean beforme flashing)(by doolop)
-after you need flash your ROM and Radio ROM (if it's needed)
-And you can make an HardReset (after flashing) because some guys recommend that but i never do this and i never have problem!
And have fun!
So wich ROM? IS it possible that you make a short video?

Why SSPL? HSPL is much better!
i just saw HSPL, and that was the next method i was going to try. i'm going to try the black dse one again. the same one you have. i like the darker theme to it
ok i'm giving up for the night. i have SPL 2.10, so i gotta downgrade, right? i'll look into that tomorrow...i've been staring at this screen for way too long haha.
hmmmm...further research says since i have SPL 2.10, there's no way to downgrade to 2.8 or lower, is there? so i'm stuck with 2.10 until an HSPL is released for it (if one even becomes released)?
Hi!
I have the strangest question
My phone is reaaallly slow, so I figured I'd do a hard reset and reinstall everything.
My question is, what should I do
Basically I just want the latest version of windows mobile and HD2 updates. To get it really up to date
So can you give me any recommendations on what exactly I should update?
Thanks
The easiest way is probably to flash a custom rom..... one of the newer ones.
Should contain all the freshest updatey goodness and give the speed your looking for.......
Best thing to do is work out which apps you liked and what worked and do a hard reset back to factory spec and only install the apps you like...
After getting the phone most of us install every app that comes along, settling for a few that are essential... Hard resetting and fresh installs will help greatly...
Only go a custom rom if you really know what you are doing and only if you are dedicated to try several to find one that suits you...

I know I used to do so with my old telephone (TYTN II), but recently I spoke with a friend of mine (he has a HD2 too). He's really into computers etc, and he has the latest roms and everything. He told me that his phone is A LOT faster now.
The only thing is: I have no idea where to start. Just download the latest windows mobile? or should I download the latest HTC HD2 rom? Or both? In what order? Any other updates?

Before i went down the custom rom route i did modify a stock 1.66 rom so i can make a comparison here between as shipped stock, modded stock and custom 6.5.5. I can tell you that 6.5.5 is miles better, faster and if you get a custom rom with a newer version of sense that's even better.
Flashing custom roms has been covered so many times many people are bored of replying but i'll see what i can do in one post.
First you need a copy of HSPL3. Search for it, it will turn up. Don't ask how to install it. All you need to do is run the exe in the file you download.
Then you have a choice. You can either install and updated radio rom (will possibly improve signal and battery life but to find the best one for you and your area may take a couple of flashes and some testing) or just skip straight to the main event. I recommend that all new rom flashers use Energy 23569 standard sense 2.5 because it's fast, pretty lightweight and very close to a HTC stock rom in looks which makes it pretty easy to use. To install follow the instructions in the first couple of posts of the energy rom thread.
I also recommend that you have a look at leocpuspeed V4 and chainfire's 3D driver patch v2 (search for those). Once configured they will greatly improve the performance of the device running any rom you install and it's well worth it.
if you dont wanna go custom rom, i guess you could check see if you have all the latest updates from the HTC site, take it from there, only install apps to the device that need to be on the device such as tweaking apps and install everything else on the sd card, and get your self clean ram or bsb ram sweeper, will reclaim the ram for you from the programs you thought you may have closed but didnt really close.
So, I installed the Energy Cookie ROM yesterday. I really like all the icons and whatnot, but for me, it seems to run a little slower than the stock ROM + Tweaks, and the animations are slightly laggy. So, I'm going to change.
I am thinking that since the stock ROM ran so well, maybe that's my best bet. So, if I am possibly switching back anyway, I am wondering if there is a stock'ish ROM that is slightly cooked to remove some bloatware, and I can add my own stock apps back if needed? Anyone know of a good ROM that fits the bill? I'd be open to a chef ROM if it will run faster than stock and has the bugs (at least the vast majority of them) worked out. Any thoughts/suggestions?
Also, and I will search in a sec, but I'm already posting this so I might as well ask (if I find an answer, I'll edit this), since I installed the HSPL, and I flashed the ROM via USB (not the SD Card), am I right in thinking I can just flash a new (TMOUS compatible) ROM without any other mods or processes (I'll hard reset after)?
Thanks. I'll flash something as soon as I get some replies, so bring on the suggestions! Again, Thanks!

Best one I've found, right here.
Mine is as stock as you can get for the TMOUS HD2, same layout as EURO HD2...runs fast,stable....and is completely null of TMOUS bloatware....

yes, it's called Miri's Rom i belive. i've been using it since may and oh my, everything is smooth and it even has e reader tab and there are like 10 books included! that is the only customized thing in that rom. trust me, you will like it! Unforunately, the version i have has been discontinued, but if you can give me your email address, i can email the rom to you. But the newer one has 4 shortcuts, instead of regular 3 on homepage, and has rssfeed ready. You can see it for your self http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1786 but i like the one that got discontinued because it looks like stock rom rather than custom rom.
I have been on a hunt for the cleanest and fastest stock version, I was about to switch to Wild Child's but I realize this one is a bit more cleaner:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654504

Hello,
Which is a good rom for Speed/Stability if anybody could reccomend me one, I find most of the custom ones are pretty much focused on Eye Candy and Attractive graphics.
I'm after something that is fast and stable, I guess I can just disable any themes if they come with them etc, as my current ROM (Factory ROM), is a bit buggy the transcriber when typing messages hangs sometimes (whole device freezes intermittently) and when writing on notes the device sometimes freezes, so i thought a custom ROM may somehow fix this and generally improve the speed of the device if anybody has made a custom rom focusing on speed and stability.
If anybody could recommend me a starting point i'd appreciate it as I don't want to go out flashing all of the ROMS out there but rather get an opinion on a good ROM to start off with.
Thanks.
that kind of behaviour is not normal for a stock rom. which exact one do you use (exact version and carrier)?
i personally use the official htc wwe rom 1.56 with the latest radio 1.17.25.09 and have none of the problems you described. but stock roms vary just as much as cooked roms. before this one, i used the very latest shipped rom, i believe it was the orange uk rom wwe 1.59 and it was far less stable, slower and had other integrated apps (and streaming media was missing).
since apparently you have used cooked roms before, have you performed a task 29 before flashing your current rom and are you certain to have performed at least one successful hard reset after flashing it?
MOD EDIT - Move to General forum. Please post all Q&A in General section
Ta
Rick
My details on the startup are :
R 1.09.25.14
G 52.49a.25.26u
D 1.18. 23358
I take it it's version 1.18?
Not sure which carrier it is but my Interface does have a "Starhub" Icon on it.
I don't konw what region my phone is originally from so will see what HTC websites i can download the official firmware from.
It actually freezes not just when using transcriber, it would do it anytime but more so when using transcriber or notes.
I want to install new rom in my phone. New rom would need to be wm6.5 and some older touchflo interface. Manila 2.5 is slow for my touchHD (I bought phone with cooked rom, but then I didnt know nothing about cooked roms).
What is most important to me is to have similar calendar as manila 2.5 calendar (or similar because windows calendar is painful to use with fingers).
So I want as speedy as it can be with wm6.5 touchflo combination.
Any propositions?
