Oh lord... internal memory in read only mode... - HD2 General

A few days ago I noticed that I cannot install or delete anything from the internal memory on my phone. I CAN uninstall programs with SKTools though, so it's probably just a software issue but I have never had this happen before so I have no idea what steps to take. However, I'm trying to save myself a hard reset so I'm gonna ask here if anyone has had this problem & successfully fixed it. I have SO many tweaks, please tell me this is fixable without a hard reset
EDIT: Ok I figured it out but now I have a new issue- somehow the memory card encryption was enabled but the checkbox to decrypt it is now greyed out. How the heck do I fix this?

Lost Program Files

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has had a similar incident with their Wizard -
I've got a MDA Vario, i haven't upgraded the ROM or over clocked it at all, i've just installed a few games and a few applications most recently (Agile).
But over the last couple of days the phone has started reseting itself and today i seem to have loast a load of applications i had installed onto the phone.
Having checkeed the phones storage card, it would seem that the "Program Files" directory on the card has dissapeared!
Does anyone know whats going on and how best to stop it?
Thanks for your help.
Can help you on a solution. but I kinda had the same experience. You may want to specify that the lost programs files are in SD only.
Anyway, previously, just after I've got my Charmer phone, I kinda install everything into it and it causes problems. Some programs causes problems and it hanged my phone and I have to soft reset it. I keep on trying and reseting my phone
and later, I've noticed that files in my SD files are lost. I experience twice, once I lost everything in the SD and later I only lost the Program Files dir of the SD.
So, what I think is.. before you soft reset, remove your SD card. That's what I can do.
Problem may be being caused by Agile Messenger
Sounds like a solution.
But i figured something i had installed recently had started causing the phone to reset, since having this problem i have uninstalled Agile and the phone seems to have stopped reseting randomly.
Therefore, is there a program similar to Agile out there that doesn't screw up your phone? If so, what?
i had a similar problem before. What happened with me is several folders disappeared, whether i tried to view them on the devices explorer/resco explorer or even in a memory card reader, but the memory for those files missing was still being used. So i had to use a recovery program called GetDataBack and plugged the card into a memory card reader and it scanned it and recovered everything.
heres my original post on what happened with me.
hope it helps

Thanks for that, i'll try and get this recovery software and hope i haven't lost too much!
Did you ever find out why you lost the files?

Unable to start camera not enough storage in available to complete this operation

I started this new thread as the previous one on the same topic did not give any satifactory answers to this problem
I also the Windows mobile 6 upgrade to my HTC 8525. I did a restore of my previous data with sprite software. All went very well until I tried to use the camera.
I got "Unable to start camera. Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
I have plenty of space in storage. The camera just refuses to work.
Searching the forums, I have only found one thread who has gotten this error message. I followed all the possible permotations to fix this. I tried to do a hard and soft reset and cleared my memory (both storage and program). Uninstalled several programs. I have a 2GB micro SD card with over 500MB of free storage on the phone. The camera still refuses to work.
What should I do next?
try removing the sd card then soft reset the device and when it has completed restarting windows insert the sd card and it should ask if you want to store images on there instead of main storage.
same deal
I did try that. It did not prompt me for anything after I reinserted my SD card. Any other suggestions.
Thanks

ive had this same problem for a while now and have resorted to using coolcamera.. my guess is that it has something to do with the backup. the problem on my end dosent come up until i restore a backup from spbbackup... so note what programs you have, hard reset, and start fresh...
the camera will be working.
This is because not enough ram is available, simply close any apps running in the backround and try again.hopefully u can end programs with X-Button. some of the "cooked" roms have way too many services running at boot and it almost impossible to make enough ram available.
fixed problem
Ifigured out this was a problem with the sprite backup software. For some reason when you back up some older programs with sprite and then do a system restore after having changed from WM5 to WM6, you loose the camera function. I fixed the problem by reseting my device to original manufacturers settings and then reinstalling the programs one by one without using sprite backup software. It was very time consuming ad I had to retrieve my saved data files and contacts before resetting the device. But my camera works fine now!
it happened to me some days ago aftyer restoring backup
a clean solution:
look for the camera oem package of pandora, look for the recistry settings in the .rgu file, translate it to a regedit4 compatible .reg file, execute it, and problem solved. it is a problem registry related. hope this helps

Storage card missing after installing Background4AllTabs.cab

I installed the cab to be able to uninstall it if it did'nt work. After the installation I thought that the phone ran pretty slow so I decided to uninstall the cab. After the uninstall my Storage Card was all gone so I made a soft reset, but still no storage card. So i took out the SD and made another soft reset, still no changes. Then I made a hard reset and guess what? I'm still not able to see my storage card, not even from the Settings > System settings > Memory field.
Does anyone have a clue? I am running:
Dutty's_HD_WM6.5_R5_5.2.23004.5.0.60_1.59.709.0_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.14.25.24_Turbo
I'm sorry if I misplaced this thread.
Have you checked the card in something else to make sure it is working OK?

Heh, I was going to do that now. So I took out the card while the device was powered on, but then I could not find my other phone so I put the card back in. And voila! The card is working, but unfortunately it has been formatted for some reason
Well, I have a backup file on my computer so I only lost some pictures and text messages.
Thanks for the reply anyway

SD card is full or missing when in "Documents" tab

When I'm on "Documents" tab it says - "SD card is full or missing"
Any way around it ?
Come on ... nobody has this problem ?!!!
I had that problem too and I wish I could give you a way to fix it, but I had to perform a hard reset after WMWifiRouter screwed my WiFi up. Your post reminded me about the problem with the documents tab and I just checked it... turns out the hard reset also fixed this issue for me.
I'll let you know if it comes back and we can work out a fix that doesn't involve resetting everything on the phone.
I actually performed hard reset (because of a different issue). Unfortunately it did not fix Documents tab problem
are you using a ram disk at all? that is known to mess with the docs tab.

hmm no clue then, sorry. Think if it were me i'd try copy off all the files and folders onto the pc then format the sd card and copy everything back, just to see.
Did you remove the original SD card that came with it? Or, replace it with another one? I know it's in the manual that once you do it, the SD card may not work anymore, or something like that. Maybe that's the cause, I'm just guessing since I don't have this kind of problem.
microSD card came with T-Mobile Hd2 (US version) already inserted. Did not touch it
I have this problem too with my Touch HD.
I can't read my documents. It says: "SD card is full or missing".
Any help. Please...
I've fixed this problem
I had this problem too
I've fixed this problem thus
I backed up all info the storage Card and I made a complete format the storage card complete under windows, after I copied all info into storage card again, and this operation fixed this problem

Did exactly same thing but it did not fix it for me
Format worked for me, although I'm pretty sure the SD card was fine, and was gonna compare the pre-format files to post-format and see if I accidentally deleted anything that would cause this. Was in a hurry though, and never ended up comparing.
Formatted(full) SD card on PC, then put in phone and formatted there to get the stock files back on. Then copied everything else over (TF movies, and my downloads, etc..). Worked fine after that.
Hi
I had the same problem and quicikly solved this issue:
Go to: \Carte de stockage or Storage card\Application Data\HTC\databases\DocExp
And delete 2 files: postlist.DB & value.DB
It worked for me, hope the same for you
Installing a network plugin caused the issue on mine, when I unistalled it worked again

mdean, do you happen to have the name or the cab handy, so I can take a peek at it for a possible connection to the cause? Thanks!
I tried 3 different ones, all caused the problem - generic network plugin, htc network plugin, and schnaps network plugin
SD Card is full or Missing - SOLVED
1. Delete the folder - Storage card\Application Data
2. Tab again the document tab - wait re-loading until finish searching all documents
3. Successful!
thanks dude i was having the same problem, when i enabled shared network folder in touch tool, it stop working but i went back and disabled it and now working again.
Glad you all figured it out... I had this problem 3 weeks ago and immediately after enabling and setting up the network plugin with Touch Tools 1.4. Luckily, I didn't have to look for the cause since the last thing I did was install & use the network plugin!
So, for future reference.........
Also, your facebook pictures in htc album's facebook tab will stop showing up if you manually assign a "CacheSize" value other than 0 to HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS.
Be advised!

Need to decrypt micro SDXC that was formatted as internal storage on my Moto X Pure

So recently my device stopped recognizing the SanDisk 64gb micro-SDXC I had formatted as internal storage. As far as I am aware when you format a SD this way the phone turns it into an encrypted volume and stores the key on internal storage, presumably somewhere the user cannot normally access it. The card itself is not dead, plugging it into my computer verifies this, but I cannot access it. I think some write operation failed and made it invisible to the phone. the phone did the same thing to a 128gb PNY card, but I reformatted it on PC, then reformatted it again on the phone and now the PNY is working fine. my question is, is there any way to extract the encryption key for my 64gb card(Root based tool or otherwise) from the card profile on my phone and decrypt it on a PC so I can reclaim my data? The phone still has a profile for the card, so presumably the key is still in internal storage somewhere. I had about 40gb of media on that card that I had not backed up (photos, videos, music and such). My ohone is not currently rooted but i wouldnt mind rooting it if someone has a root only solution.
I would wipe cache, then data then try another ROM.

It is possible, though I have not done it before, I avoid adoptable storage for this reason. Do NOT wipe your ROM, or you will permanently lose your encryption key to your data that you have on the card.
If you put the SD card into a Linux PC that can recognize the partitions (Windows will not show it), you will see two partitions, android_meta and android_expand. To decrypt the big one, android_expand, you will need to recover your key from the phone.
To recover the encryption key, you will need either root access or a custom recovery like TWRP, to access '/data/misc/vold' to retrieve the encryption key (aes-cbc-essiv:sha256). Save the .key file to somewhere safe.
Then something like
dmsetup create crypt1 --table "0 `blockdev --getsize /dev/sdb2` crypt \
aes-cbc-essiv:sha256 00010203040506070809010a0b0c0d0e0f 0 /dev/sdb2 0"
mount -t ext4 /dev/mapper/crypt1 /mnt/1/

Once you have recovered your data, reformat the card and use it as portable storage

Thank you! this is exactly what I was looking for, but i couldn't find anything on google about anyone figuring out all the details (encryption key location, encryption method, usable tool for decryption)
now is there any way i can root, extract the key, then unroot so that i can RMA the phone? It seems to now render any sd i put into it unreadable by itself within about 5 minutes of formatting, regardless whether i format as internal or portable. not sure if this is hardware (reader malfunction) or some software is writing to the card incorrectly, but it is now doing it consistently.

I do not believe it's possible to root or change the recovery without unlocking the bootloader, unless there's some other method I'm not aware of. Even MM systemless root method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...t-moto-x-style-xt1572-br-marshmallow-t3259380, requires unlocking the bootloader, which of course then technically voids the warranty.
However, in this case, it might be worth contacting Moto to inform them of what's happened, it's definitely some kind of bug in the software which has caused this, and thus you are stuck in this catch-22 situation. They might make an exception or have some other solution. Let us know how you go.

Even more of a catch 22 situation, because if i read that correctly, the process for unlocking the bootloader also requires wiping the phone (and thus, the encryption keys) (i miss geohot with his 1 click soft roots). I will wait a little while and see if I or anyone else reading this thread can find a way around that, but it seems ill have to contact Moto support either way, since my 16gb model is barely usable without an SD card.
This is another example of why taking control of your phone before something goes wrong is so important.
Did you try wiping cache yet?

I checked the recovery menu but there didn't seem to be an option for wiping cache on this device (recovery menu was a little different than I am used to, only had option for factory reset) Also, while wiping cache might conceivably prevent it from screwing up future cards, I don't know if it will fix this one, and i'm not sure if i wanna risk wiping anything without getting my hands on the encryption keys first. if it becomes apparent that i'm just not getting root without wiping, then I'll try playing around with recovery options to at least get back SD slot usage.
You can erase cache in fastboot. If you are locked there is no way to root without wiping data.

Isn't that what the setting "OEM Unlocking" under "Developer Options" is for? I thought I read that, if you enable this option before you unlock the bootloader, it allows you to unlock without the wipe/factory reset?

No all that does is allow you to unlock (providing you have a key of course).
well it looks like nobody has found a non wiping solution to root my phone, so I'm going to have to give up on the data and see if I can get back SD functionality, or just RMA the phone. I think i will also publish a script that allows you to plug in your phone and the SD at the same time and allow you to decrypt an internal formatted card by pulling the keys and using them to mount the drive to help people who are in similar situations, but have root. Thanks anyway for the help.
Hi Everyone, I'm stuck in the same catch 22 situation. Device is not rooted or bootloader unlocked, so can't access the key, and trying to root/unlock bootloader will wipe the keys. Any updates, @sciencetor2??
Have you written to Motorola/google about this?
I'm still not ready to give up on the data... hundreds of vacation pictures, that couldn't get backed up.
I'm in the same boat any good news on this?
As long as the phone can see the card, you can change it to portable storage. However, if something goes wrong and phone can not see the card anymore, it's nearly impossible to access the volume without the retrieving the key from the phone, and you must root the phone in order to get the key, as I understand.
I have another similar problem, SD card becomes locked writing and disappears from phone, even I used it as portable storage. And the card can't be formatted at all. So I believe the phone somehow does something and change the state of SD card!
Did anyone find a solution yet. Stuck with same problem. Will loose very important data.
Same here.
I adopted my sdcard as internal storage in CM13.
It was constantly in bootloop, so I formatted the internal memory of the phone to install a new rom ...
But now I can not recover the data within the sd because I can not access it nor with the new rom (I can not even mount it from TWRP) nor from a linux PC (the filesystem is unknown).
Pretty much ... I did not know that the sdcard adopted were encrypted!
Any solution? :\
Hello everybody!
Is there any way to recover the deleted ".key" file?
so i havent gotten back on this thread in a while but i think i at least figured out the "why" on why the card was no longer being recognized. it seems to come down to read/write speed. my 64GB and 128GB cards that i was having the issue with were both U1 cards, which means their read/write is only sitting around 10Mbps, and both of those had issues being detected by the phone after a little bit of time in use. I replaced the card in the same phone a few months back with a high throughput U3 card, and it has been running smoothly ever since. this leads me to the hypothesis that if the card is not fast enough for the phone's taste, it will just ignore it (or timeout on reads, not sure which is actually happening) which is leading to the issues we are experiencing. unfortunately this doesnt lead us to a solution for recovering from the existing cards, but hopefully it will help avoid making the mistake of using a slow card in the future.
